Mr. G. Alvin Bishop, 55, of Gardendale, Alabama, formerly of Newnan, died suddenly February 15, 2000 at St. Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Bishop was born July 7, 1944 in Randolph County, Alabama, to the late Lewis L. Bishop and Lila Jordan Bishop. He worked for the Housing Authority of the City of Birmingham. He was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church.

A funeral was Feb. 17 at Oakwood Memorial, Gardendale Chapel at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Leon Zalenski officiating. Burial was at Sardis Baptist Church, Bowdon, Ga. with the Rev. Monroe Wiggins and the Rev. Rabun Williams officiating. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita Smith Bishop, son, Matthew W. Bishop, daughter, Jennifer M. Bishop of Gardendale, Ala.; brothers, Wendell L. Bishop of Birmingham, Ala., H. Alton Bishop of Senoia, Ga. and nieces and nephews.

Oakwood Memorial Gardendale Chapel in Gardendale, Ala. was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Frank Danny Brown, 59, of Willow Drive, Newnan, died Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Brown was born August 21, 1940 in Copper Hill, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.

A funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles Grovenstein and the Rev. Chuck Grovenstein officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Pallbearers will be Donney Estes, Earl Haynie, Greg Shelnutt, Howard Shelnutt Jr., James Shelnutt and Timmey Shelnutt.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Brown of Newnan; daughters, Chris and Alicia Culver of Sharpsburg and Jay and Teresa Grantham of Carrollton, Ga.; sisters, Betty Helton of Copper Hill, Tennessee and Ora Lee Sexton of Dalton, Ga.; granddaughters, Mary Katherine and Elizabeth Culver of Sharpsburg and Hannah and Morgan Grantham of Carrollton.

Mrs. Rentha L. Williams, 84, died Sunday, February 20, 2000 at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga.

Mrs. Williams was born November 22, 1915 to the late Jacob and Fannien Hartsfield. She joined Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Church at an early age and served faithfully. She valued her relationship with her church, her family and friends. She was a member of Choir #1, a class leader and a Stewardess.

She married the late Joe Thomas Williams June 29, 1932. She was a member of the Jolly Ten Social and Saving Club. Her time and energy was available to those who loved her.

A funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 24 at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church in Palmetto, Ga. The Rev. Vandy Simmons will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Henry, Rev. Roger Stegall, and Rev. Sandra Domineck. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the Trustee of Board of the church.

Surviving are daughters Emily J. Malone, Maggie J. Nash and Josephine Huggins; son-in-law Willie Nash; nine grandsons, one granddaughter, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Williams and Mr. Willie Soloman; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Airleen Slaughter, Mrs. Cleophas Williams, Mrs. Sarah Williams, Mrs. Lelas Williams and Mrs. Arlene Williams; cousins, Mrs. Miram Spears and family; a very dear friend, Mrs. Jeanette Hardy; a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dorothy Irene Smith, 79, formerly of Doc Perry Road, Newnan, died Saturday, February 19, 2000 at Starcrest of Newnan.

Mrs. Smith was born October 23, 1920 in Coweta County to William Albert Lyle Sr. and Ida Lou Stephens Lyle. She was retired from the textile field. Her husband, Woodson Thomas Smith, preceded her in death.

A funeral was held Monday at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Burdett Wantland officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Frank Freeman, Jason Freeman, Joey Lyle, Vince Ozmore, Danny Phillips and Brian Riede.

Surviving are sisters Katherine Freeman, Louise Ozmore and Sara Ann Rainey, all of Newnan; brother, Albert Lyle Jr. of Newnan; nieces and nephews.

Mr. George Raymond Stallings, formerly of Riverdale, Ga., died Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mr. Stallings was a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church in Riverdale, Ga. He was a

charter member of the UAW (United Auto Workers) union. A son, John Raymond Stallings, preceded him in death.
A funeral will be Friday, Feb. 25 at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, Ga. at 11 a.m. Burial will be in College Park Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Daugherty officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Surviving are daughter, Nancy Jane McDonald of Newnan; son, Alvin Stallings of Newnan; brother, Emory Gaston Stallings of Silver Springs, Florida; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Gladys Ethel Vise, 87, of Carrollton, Ga. died Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Vise was born August 5, 1912 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Marion and Tiny Nolen Daniel. She was a homemaker and member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ellis, in 1992; and her husband, James Howard Vise, in November 1976.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 a

t Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Darnell Teal officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Earle Millings Castles Jr., 70, of Standing Rock Road, Senoia, died Saturday, February 19, 2000 in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mr. Castles was born August 23, 1929 in Monroe, North Carolina to Earle Millings Castles Sr. and Edna Shell Foster. He was a welder and a member of Haralson United Methodist Church.

A funeral was held at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22 with the Rev. Danny Wilson and the Rev. Troy Duncan officiating. Burial was in Westminster Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Billy Castles, Brad Castles, Randall Pitts, Kain Allison, Paul Powell, Blue Askew, Nick Waters and Chris McKoy.

Mrs. Annie Dora Denney, 85, of Hogansville, died Friday, February 25, 2000 at Vencor Hospital in Atlanta.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Denney was born April 4, 1914 in Randolph County, Alabama, daughter of the late Harvey Jasper Gay and the late Ellen Veal Gay. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church in Hogansville, and was the wife of the late Thomas J. Denney.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Jo Ann Taylor of Jonesboro and Ms. Loretta Morgan of Thomaston; sons, Thomas J. Denney Jr. of Jackson and Harold Morgan of Griffin; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. A. V. Hanners, 72, of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, February 24, 2000 at Franklin Health Care Center.

A funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Don Jolly and the Rev. Bryan Geter will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mr. Hanners was born September 11, 1927 in Heard county, son of the late Harrison and Eva Powell Hanners. He lived in Pine Mountain and LaGrange for a number of years before returning to make his home in Franklin and was a retired auto mechanic.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Angela Brazeal of Franklin and Mrs. Rickiey Norred of LaGrange; sons, Danny Hanners of Kellyton, Alabama and David Ray Hanners of Jonesboro; sister, Mrs. Velma McGill of Macon; brother, Jessie O. Hanners of Hogansville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Roosevelt Hill, of 52 Boone Drive, Newnan, died Friday, February 25, 2000 at the West Georgia Hospital in LaGrange, Ga.

He was the husband of Mrs. Annie L. Hill.

Mrs. Frances Gober Johnson
Mrs. Frances Gober Johnson of Stonehaven Dr., Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, February 24, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mrs. Johnson was born January 3, 1932 to the late Charles and Willa Mae Gober of Detroit, Michigan. She was educated in the public school system of Detroit. She excelled in her studies, and graduated with honors at the age of 16 from Cass Technical High School. She was an active member of the Cass-Ex Alumni Association for the past 52 years.

Mrs. Johnson was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. She faithfully worked in this capacity for 25 years until her retirement in 1989.

At an early age she joined the Russell Street Baptist Church, where her mother was minister of music for 25 years. Late in her adult life she joined Allen Temple CME church where she served for 30 years in various capacities including the stewardess and mother's boards.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon at Mt. Olive Seventh Day Adventist Church in East Point. The body will be cremated.

One sister preceded her in death, Marian James.

Surviving are daughters, Dr. Donna Scott of Newnan, Ga. and Toya Aaron (Ed) of Riverdale, Ga.; sister, Anna Reid (Alvin) of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Charles Gober of Detroit; six grandchildren, Roland Scott, Kaggia Scott (Rondora), Keturah Scott, Malik Milner, Tarik Milner and Takia Aaron; three great-grandchildren, Tvoncha le Ronald and Nichole; nieces and nephews, Aleta Humphrey (Finas), Stephanie Witfield, Ricardo Whitfield, Eric James, Lisa James, Victor Gober, Robert Gober, Chris Gober, Courtney Gober, Chad Gober and a host of grand nieces and nephews.

Mr. James Harvey Rooks, 81, of Roscoe Road, Newnan, died Thursday, February 24, 2000 at his residence.

Mr. Rooks was born October 6, 1918 in Coweta County, son of James Frank Rooks and Mary Oneal. He was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Whitlock Rooks of Newnan; sisters-in-law, Myrtle W. Jackson, Newnan and Martha Whitlock of Newnan, Carl and Adel Miller of Newnan; brothers-in-law, Wendell and Elva Whitlock of Newnan, Dennis Whitlock of Newnan and Buford Whitlock of Newnan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Dorothy Lawson, 64, of Griffin, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Coweta County to Mrs. Florence Bishop Addison and the late Oliver Weaver. She was a retired textile employee and was of the Holiness faith.

A funeral will be held today, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. in the Warren Haisten Memorial Chapel in Griffin. The Rev. Joe Strickland and the Rev. O.C. Collins will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are her children, James Lawson of Richmond, Va., Martha Davis, Tommy Lawson, and Mary Webb of Griffin, and Ann Chapman of Barnesville; her mother, Florence Addison of Newnan; sister, Faye Jeter of Newnan; grandchildren, Linda Carlisle, Marcia Mercer, Patricia Davis, Mitchell Webb, Guy Davis Jr., Michael Webb, Cathy, Davis, Ricky, Cindy, and Johnny Lawson, and Jessica, Missy, and Raven Chapman; seven great grandchildren; and special friends Cecil Blanton and Marie Kelley.

A funeral will be held today, Feb. 27, 2000, at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Clifford Davis will officiate, assisted by the Reverends W.J. Johnson, Melvin Brittain, J.W. Russell Jr., and R.W. Sutton. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery, and family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Fannie A. Chambers of Victorville and her husband Clyde; sons and daughters-in-law James and Codella Vinson, Melvin and Bobbie Vinson, and Leroy Vinson, all of Newnan; sister Mary Portress of Atlanta and sister-in-law Addie B. Mr. Roosevelt Hill Sr., 63, of Boone Drive, Newnan, Ga. died February 25, 2000 at West Georgia Health System.

Mr. Hill was born September 6, 1936 to the late James Hill and Lillie B. Hill (Shepherd). He attended Coweta County public schools and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He was married to Annie L. Hill, and they had three children. Two brothers preceded him in death, J. W. Hill and Jimmy Hill.

A funeral was Monday, Feb. 28 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church on Lovelace Street in Newnan with the Rev. Jack Russell Sr. officiating, assisted by Evangelist Susie Hudson and the Rev. Melvin Brittian Jr. Serving as pallbearers were nephews and friends. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery in Newnan.
Surviving are wife Annie L. Hill; children, Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Smith (Dilla), Newnan, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell L. Mr. Robert Harley "RH" Sweatmon, 76, of Macon, Ga., died Tuesday, February 22, 2000 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Sweatmon was born September 26, 1923 in Coweta County, Ga. He was the son of the late Ed and Alice (Adcock) Sweatmon. Mr. Sweatmon had lived in Macon for the past 33 years. He was a retired Senior Master Sergeant, having served in the Air Force for 30 years.

A funeral was Friday, Feb. 22, at the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial was in Glenn Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, Ga., with a Military Honor Guard.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy Sweatmon of Macon; daughters, Barbara Reeves of Kathleen, Ga., Sherry Sweatmon of Byron, Ga.; son, SFC Eddie Sweatmon of Fort Drum, NY; brother, Howard Eugene Sweatmon of Ringgold, Ga.; sister, Mary Janette Thompson of Whitesburg, Ga.; sister-in-law, Thelma Sweatmon of Newnan, Ga.; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Richard Elsworth Schooley Williams, 56, of Franklin, Ga., died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta after an extended illness.

Formerly of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Mr. Williams moved to the Franklin, Ga. area 20 years ago and worked as a self-employed carpenter and painter. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Williams served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a son, Master Richard E. Schooley Jr. and a daughter, Miss Angela K. Schooley.

He is survivied by his friend and companion, Ms. Faye Bradley of Franklin, Ga.; sons, Mr. John and Diannia Schooley of Clinton Arkansas, Mr. Brian Schooley of Conway, Arkansas; sisters, Mrs. Sharon Moran of Kingston, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Shirley Rosenstell of Plymouth, Pennsylvania; godchildren, Miss Nina Faye Bradley, Miss Linda Bray, Mr. William Bradley, all of Franklin, Ga.; six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Franklin Church of Christ with Minister Ronnie Nations officiating.

Mrs. Romel Kimble Barkwell, 81, of Newnan, died Monday, February 28, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Barkwell was born July 18, 1918 in Newnan. She was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Wednesday, March 1, 2000 between 7 and 9 p.m.

A funeral will be Thursday, March 2, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony Brooks, Jody Clark, Scott Garmany, Vick Ivery, Ted Smith and Pete Wilson.

Surviving ard her daughter, Dianne Evans of Newnan; sisters, Alice Borders, Ruth Brooks and Erlene Craig; grandchildren, Robin Garmany and Chris Haney; great-grandchildren, Craig Garmany, Molly Garmany and Kristen Haney.

Mrs. Hazel Johnson Boyd
Mrs. Hazel Johnson Boyd, 83, of Charlotte, N.C., died February 28, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital.

A long-time resident of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a loyal employee for many years at Union Carbide Corporation and Carolina Metals. Mrs. Boyd was considered an excellent cook and more recently she worked as a cook for Play and Learn Day Care Centers of Gaston County, N.C. until failing health forced her retirement at age 78. She also enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening throughout her life.

Mrs. Boyd was born September 24, 1916 in Chesterfield County, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Alma Evans Rudisill who was born in Coweta County, Georgia and the late James Henry Johnson Jr. who was born in Chesterfield County, S.C. She was the widow of the late Theodore Henderson Boyd.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at the Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, 314 Spratt Street, Fort Mill, S.C. officiated by Pastor Kenneth Harding. Burial will be at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Flint Hill, S.C. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Surviving are three daughters and their spouses, Barbara B. and Paul Schlagowsky of Wilmington, N.C., Mary B. and Donald C. Neal of Charlotte, N.C., and Eunice B. and Gary N. McLean of Lenoir, N.C.; three sons and their spouses, Cecil Henderson and Gloria P. Boyd of Marshville, N.C., Joseph Richard Boyd and Paula Brooks and Anthony Jerome and Alice R. Malary, all of Charlotte, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survivied by two step-daughters, Dorothy B. Deck and Shirley B. Watson, both of Charlotte, N.C.; half-sisters, Henrietta J. McMees of Helena, Mt., Frances J. Dooley of Little River, S.C., Ida Belle J. Powell of Patrick, S.C., Virginia J. Oakley of Hartsville, S.C.; step-brother, L. F. "Fred" Rudisill Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; step-sister, Shirley Wilson of Charlotte, N.C.; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

She also has many surviving relatives in both Coweta County, Ga. and Chesterfield County, S.C.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Theodore H. Boyd Jr. and James Franklin Boyd; brother, James Richard Johnson; half-sister, Claudia J. Koon; step-father, L. F. Rudisill; and step-daughter, Peggy B. Cook.

Mrs. Sara Kathereen Cunningham
Mrs. Sara Kathereen Cunningham, 74, of Newnan, died Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Cunningham was born April 6, 1925 in Newnan. She was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends Wednesday between 6 and 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Arrington officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Elwood Addison, Floyd Addison, Brent Arrington, Jamie Arrington, Bobby Estep and Ray Yeager Jr.

Surviving are her husband, Elbert Cunningham of Newnan; daughter, Rev. and Mrs. Udell (Mary Ellen) Addison of Columbus, Ga.; brother, James Helton of Whitesburg, Ga.; sisters, Martha Payton of Newnan, Elizabeth Stephens of Hogansville, Ga. and Frances Yeager of Newnan; grandchildren, Russ (Donna) Addison, Angela (Danny) Roberts and Terrie (Kenneth) Pope; also six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Dale McClain
Mr. Robert Dale McClain, 40, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died Feb. 20, 2000 in Salt Lake City of a massive coronary.

He was born Dec. 15, 1959 in Piedmont, Ala. and grew up in Newnan. He was a member of the Newnan High School band and graduated from Newnan High in 1978.

At age 15, he became a Christian. He was a member of Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Boy Scout.

Mr. McClain enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1978. He was sent to Parris Island, S. C. for basic training, later going to Quantico, Va. For a time, he served on the security detail for the president of the United States.

Mr. McClain served one year in Japan before returning to Tustin, Calif. for traning in computer technology. He remained in the Marine Corps until 1992.

Military awards received by Mr. McClain were the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and two Good Conduct Awards. He also received a letter of recognition and a certificate of commendation.

He had been a resident of Salt Lake City for several years and worked for Staker Paving. He was a Mason.

Mr. McClain is the grandson of the late Alton and Mary McClain of Newnan and the late Mrs. Carmen B. Young of Piedmont, Ala.

Chaplain Ron Bernier officiated at a memorial service at the Masonic Lodge in Bountiful, Utah on Feb. 25. Plans for a local memorial service will be announced later.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Caudill McClain of Salt Lake City, parents, Charles and Patricia McClain of Newnan; brothers, Gary McClain, Danny McClain, Charles McClain Jr., Christopher McClain; and son, Fred Alton McClain of Griffin

Mrs. Martha Joyce Wood
Mrs. Martha Joyce Wood, 66, of Grantville, Ga. died Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

Mrs. Wood was born November 3, 1933 in LaGrange, Ga. She was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 1 between 6 and 9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be held at Friendship Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga. Thursday, March 2, beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Moon officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Long, Keith Long, James Moon Jr., Mike Sellers, Chris Terrell, Ronnie Terrell and Jack Wood.

Surviving are her husband, Curtis Wood of Grantville; daughters, Theresa Greene of Newnan and Charlotte Wood of Grantville; sisters, Patricia Carlise, Doris Sellers and Louise Terrell, all of LaGrange; brother, Jessie L. Haynes of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald S. Wood.
