A funeral will be Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn. The Rev. Ellis Freeman is officiating, and burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Eugene Lee Brundage
Mr. Eugene Lee Brundage (affectionately known as "Sweetboy"), 78, of Dalton, Ga. and formerly of Newnan, Ga. and Macon, Ga., died Wednesday, March 8, 2000 in the Hamilton Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Brundage was a graduate of Mercer University and Auburn University in the field of mechanical and chemical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a staff sergeant in the 604th Bomber Squadron 399th Bomber Group. Mr. Brundage was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Jesse Brundage, and by two sons, Robert Brundage and Ronald Brundage.

Mr. Brundage is survived by three daughters and son-in-law, Kelly Ann Brundage of Marietta, Cynthia Gene Brundage of Chattanooga, TN and Tracey and Dr. Glenn Boyd of Dalton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Eleanor Boyd and Nolan Heyward Boyd, both of Dalton; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha and Clarence Boynton of Sharpsburg, Ga.and Jo Kelley of Macon.

A funeral will be Saturday, March 11, 2000 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Macon, Ga. with burial in Macon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Mr. Herbert Hightower of 4656 Highway 34 East died Wednesday, March 8, 2000 of injuries from a house fire.

Miss Thelma A. Grier of Highway 54, Luthersville, Ga., died Sunday, March 4, 2000 at her residence.

Miss Grier was born May 15, 1922 to the late William Grier Sr. and Annie Lou Parks Grier.

A funeral will be Saturday, March 11, 2000 at 1 p.m. at Sunny Side Baptist Church on Highway 362 in Greenville, Ga. The body will be placed in state at noon. The Rev. Lamar Godfrey, pastor, and the Rev. W. E. Slaton will officiate, assisted by Minister Alvin Godfrey Jr., Elder Jimmy Godfrey, Evangelist Johnnie Mae Sales, Pastor Jerry Burks and Dr. Grier Godfrey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be great nephews.

Mr. Carlton "Fat" Kee, 69, of Providence Church Road, Newnan, Ga., died Friday, March 10, 2000.

He was born November 16, 1930 in Coweta County, son of the late Howard and Pearl Kee, and was a retired mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.

The family was receiving friends Friday evening and again Saturday, March 11 from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.

A funeral will be Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Stitcher and the Rev. Rhodes Skinner will officate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

A funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. The Rev. Tommy McLeroy, the Rev. Wesley Boatman, and the Rev. Charles Chapman will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Powers was born September 10, 1927 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Ed and Julia Crowder Williamson. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, and was retired from Uniroyal Inc.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bullock, Mrs. Janice Woodley, and Mrs. Lynn Pike, all of Hogansville; son, Harry Hay of Newnan; sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Knott of Newnan; brother, Raymond Williamson, also of Newnan; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Ms. Madolyn Freeman, 85, of Newnan, died March 13, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.

Ms. Freeman was born March 5, 1915 in Turner County, Ga., to William Augustus Freeman and Amarintha Flowers Freeman. She was retired and had worked in sales at the former Bruner's store in Newnan. She was a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church.

A funeral will be held at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan Wednesday, March 15 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating.

Surviving are her sister, Marguerite Ash of Cedartown; nieces, Aldine Askew of Newnan, Rita Beck of Cedartown, and Dorris Gilbert, Ruby Johnston, Lavane Leach and Esther Smith, all of Newnan; nephews, David Ash of Atlanta.

Mr. Herbert Hoover Hightower

Mr. Herbert Hoover Hightower, 71, of Highway 34, Newnan, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, from injuries received in a house fire.

Mr. Hightower was born November 16, 1928 in Halifax, Virginia, to Willie and Grace Hightower, the first of six sons. He was raised and schooled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. On June 20, 1953 he returned from Ingrandes, France, and married Irene Blanche Barksdale. During their 21-year Army career, the family traveled to many locations, including France (where daughter Michele was born); Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Ft. Bliss, Texas (during which their daughter Diane was born in Philadelphia); Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio (where their son Anthony was born); Okinawa, Japan; Ft. Mede, Maryland; and finally Ft. Bliss, Texas where Mr. Hightower retired in October 1968. Herbert and Irene moved the family to Allentown, Pennsylvania.
In September 1973, the family was transferred with NCR to the New Parts Distribution Facility in Peachtree City, Ga. The Hightowers retired from NCR in 1994 to pursue their hobbies full-time. For Herbert that meant fishing and enjoying time with his children, grandchildren and brothers, former co-workers and friends.

Surviving are children, Michele Herron of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Diane Bennett of Peachtree City; and Anthony Hightower of San Francisco, California; son-in-law Joseph (Duke) Herron; grandchildren Jonathan (and fiancee Sindee), Sean, Leslie and Ashley Herron and Christopher and Matthew Herbert Bennett; great-grandchildren Ariel Herron, Domonick Herron and Blake Durand; brothers and sisters-in-law Fred and Bonnie, Laushe and special friend Andrea, John and nephews, nieces and friends.

A funeral was Tuesday, March 14 at the R. W. S. Memorial chapel, 168 Greenville Street in Newnan with the Bishop Grady Cooks officiating. Burial with a military service was at Fayetteville City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Fore McPherson Color Guard members.

Ms. Bassett was born November 23, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, daughter of the late Joe Mullis and the late Clara Horne. She worked as a cloth inspector in the cotton textiles industry. She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Senoia.

A funeral will be held at Open Door Baptist Church Thursday, March 16 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Henry Calhoun and the Rev. Raymond Hayes officiating, assisted by Bro. Johnny Cash. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Barge, Landis Bishop, Terry Calhoun, Vernon Boswell, Carey Williams and K. Blake Williams.

Mrs. Mildred W. Chenoweth, 73, of Hogansville, Ga. died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at her home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the cryptside in Shadowlawn Mausoleum in LaGrange. The Rev. Phillip Garrett will officiate.

A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Chenoweth was born March 28, 1926, daughter of the late Fred and Inez Harris White. She had lived in Troup County since 1972 and attended the First Christian Church of LaGrange. For a number of years prior to retirement, she owned and operated Mildred's Restaurants in LaGrange.

Surviving are daughters, Cathy White of Hogansville and Margo Lemke of Souix City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Nichole Glozier, Tulla White, Jessica Fountain, Erin Lemke, Christina Lemke, Dovie Lemke and Sam Lemke; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel White, Gavin White and Joseph Garrett; two special friends, Mildred Pennington of Atlanta and Doug Hardin of LaGrange.

Mrs. Eunice Thelma Henson Mossie, 96, of Rex died Sunday, March 12, 2000 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale.

Mrs. Mossie was born Dec. 13, 1903 in Fulton County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rebekah Circle and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was the widow of George Mossie.

A funeral was held March 15 in the chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in East Point with the Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.

Surviving are granddaughter, Gail Burks of Rex; grandsons, William Atkinson of Stockbridge, Steven Mossie of Margate, Fla.; niece, Judy Shaw of Gay; son-in-law, Raymond Earl of Sharpsburg; 10 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Millie Jo Eversole, 47, of Walt Sanders Road, Newnan, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at her residence.

Mrs. Eversole was born December 30, 1952 in Knox County, Kentucky. She was a homemaker. Her parents preceded her in death; and at the age of 13, following the death of her mother, she lived with her aunt Mable Cornett of London, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Chassity Owens.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Saturday, March 18 from 7-9 p.m.

A funeral will be Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Miracle Tabernacle Church. The Rev. Richard Clay will officiate and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Ms. Barbara Rosser Philpot, 48, of Dominick Street, Newnan, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

A funeral will be Monday, March 20 at Springfield Baptist Church at 2 p.m. in Hogansville, Ga. The Rev. David Rosser will officiate and burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Hogansville.

Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Rutledge and Sarah Ann Jimpson, both of Newnan; four brothers, Thomas and Jimmy Rosser of Newnan, Willie James Rosser of Hogansville, and Willie Frank Jimpson of Grantville.

Mr. Jake Talley, 96, of Luthersville died March 14, 2000 at West Georgia Medical System in LaGrange, Ga.

A funeral will be Sunday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Luthersville, Ga. with the Rev. D. L. Driver officiating. Masonic brothers and deacons will serve as pallbearers and the nephews will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Talley was born June 6, 1903 in Meriwether County, Ga., second child of two children born to the late Bob and Molly Talley. He joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully on the Deacon Board as chairman, superintendent and treasurer of the Sunday School. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, vice president of the Freeman-Aide Lodge and served as janitor for many years. On March 3, 1929 he married Annie Mae Rosser, and they were together through 71 years of marriage, raising two adopted children. One son preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Mae Talley; daughter, Erma Mae Tennie; eight grandchildren, Leonia Black, Jeanett Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Harris (Annette), Mrs. Jessie Ruth Blount, Mr. and Mrs. James Hill (Floristene), Deborah Talley, Hazel C. Talley, Mr. and Mrs. Rickey Hardaway (Sharion); two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, Mrs. Grace Ector, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Little (Rosie Lee); a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, cousins and relatives.

Mrs. Pauline Stanley, 72, of Newnan, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Stanley was born in Newnan to Quinton Black and the late Ima Black. She worked for many years as a machine operator at the Arnco Sargent Textile plant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Stanley, and son, Quinton Earl Stanley.

A graveside service was held Saturday, March 18, at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Shannon officiated.

Surviving are her father, Quinton Black; daughters, Alice Faye Teal of Newnan and Ima Jean Sosebee of Jonesboro; sister, Beatrice Williams of Newnan; nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Virginia Dunbar Davis, 94, of Newnan, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Southwest Christian Hospice.

Mrs. Davis was born May 20, 1905, in Newnan. A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Clodie (Glenn) Cottle of Newnan.

A funeral will be held today, March 19, 2000, at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny Wilson will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Carter, Benny Davis, Elmer Kendall, Doug Ray, Terrell Reed, and Nick Rickenbaker.

Surviving are her daughter, Camilla (Clarence) Sumner of Newnan; step-son, Jim (Dot) Davis of Orlando, Fla.; step daughter Ellen (Jack) Blackwell of Dacula; grandchildren, Linda (Gary) Martin of Fresno, Calif., Sherry (Patrick) Winchester of Marietta, and Jimmy (Kathi) Sumner of Moreland; great grandchildren David (Jamie) Martin of Fresno, Lisa Martin of San Diego, Keith and Kevin Sumner of Moreland, and Patrick and Brett Winchester of Marietta; and nieces Virginia (Dave) McConahay of Roswell and Betty Brotherson of Venice, Fla.

Mrs. Lillian Camp, 89, of Newnan, died Saturday, March 18, 2000.

Mrs. Camp was born January 16, 1911, in Meriwether County. She was a retired textile worker for Bibb Corporation.

A funeral will be held Monday, March 20, 2000, at Sargent Baptist Church at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Suford Jones and the Rev. Harry White will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors today, March 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Arthur, Ellis Camp Jr., Mike Raker, and Bob, Chip, David, Drew, and John Camp. Contributions can be made to the building fund at Sargent Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Ed and Ellis Camp of Newnan; grandchildren, Harriet Arthur of Alpharetta, Bob and David Camp of Newnan, John Camp of Bowden, Ellis Camp Jr. of Newnan, and Susan Raker of Alpharetta; and great grandchildren Jeff Arthur, Annabelle Camp, Chip Camp, Corey Camp, Drew Camp, Lillian Camp, Amanda Chase, Josh Estep, and Thomas Raker.

She is formerly of Spring Street, Newnan, and was the daughter of Mr. Wilson Britt.

Mrs. Ruby Holcombe Cheatham, 88, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, March 19, 2000 at Hospice LaGrange.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Cheatham was born October 10, 1911 in Cherokee County, daughter of the late George and Arie Pinyan Holcombe. She had lived in Hogansville since 1936, was a member of Highland Baptist Church, and was secretary/treasurer of Ray Cheatham Enterprises, Inc.

Surviving are her husband, Ray E. Cheatham of Hogansville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Charles Howard of Roanoke, Va., Ray Lynn and Don Allen of Vinton, Va., Jane and Daniel Gottshall of Hogansville, Caroline and Perry Banks of Savannah; sister, Mrs. Ruth Nations of Lawrenceville; six grandchildren, Edward Howard of St. Petersburg, Fla., Miss Anne-Marie Howard of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Andrea Taylor of Vinton, Va., Don Allen of Las Vegas, Nev., Mark Allen of Dayton, Ohio, and Miss Holly Banks of Savannah; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. James Harry Duncan, 72, of Franklin Road, Newnan, died Monday, March 20, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Duncan was born September 22, 1927 in Sargent, Ga., Coweta County to the late John Thomas Duncan and the former Fannie Bryant. He was a self-employed electrician, a member of Elim Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Jacquline Duncan.

A memorial service will be held at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 with the Rev. Ford Ash officiating.

Surviving are son, Hollis Duncan of Newnan; daughters, Kay Parker of Grantville and Ann Leigh Duncan of Newnan; sisters, Christine Pippens of West Monroe, Louisiana, Joann McDonald of St. Joseph, Louisiana; brother, Manuel and "Donis" Duncan, St. Joseph, Louisiana; grandchildren, Chris Duncan, Holly Duncan, of Newnan, and Jennifer Parker of Marietta; great-grandchild, Jennifer Duncan of Newnan; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. James Robert Eason Sr., 82, of Dixon Road, Bowdon, Ga., died Sunday, March 19, 2000 at Carrollton Manor Inc.

Mr. Eason was born September 30, 1917 in Carroll County, Ga. to the late John Andrew and Jessie Freeman Eason. He was a retired insurance salesman with Independent Life Ins. Co. A member of Bowdon Baptist Church he was a deacon emeritus, he was a member of The Joy Singers and was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Bowdon Baptist Church. The remains will be placed in state from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Officiating will be Dr. Ron Huggins and the Rev. Clonie Williams. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Bowdon.

Pallbearers will be deacons and the Keystone Sunday School Class of Bowdon Baptist Church. Music will be furnished by George Cosper and The Joy Singers under the direction of the Rev. Kevin Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Lela Gibbs Eason of Bowdon; son, James R. Eason Jr. of Newnan; brothers, Dalton Eason and Donald Eason, both of Carrollton; sister, Nell Boynton of Carrollton; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, including granddaughter Carol and Clete Shadinger of Carrollton and great-granddaughters Caylon and Cashlyn Shadinger of Carrollton.

Mrs. Eva Jones Andrews, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at her home.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. James Moon will officiate and burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

A native of Clay County, Alabama, Mrs. Andrews was the daughter of the late John Wesley Jones and the late Emma Amason Jones. She had lived in LaGrange for the past 46 years, was a member of Eastside Baptist Temple in LaGrange, and was retired from the Elm City Division of Milliken and Company.

Surviving are her husband, James I. Andrews of LaGrange; brother, Orvil Jones of Columbiana, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Wednesday, March 22 at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Dr. Bob Martin will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are several cousins and close friends.
