Jack M. Love, Sr.

Jack Mendes Love, Sr., died March 31, 2006, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He was born January 12, 1914, in Tattnall County, Georgia, the son of the late Lon S. Love and Mollie Tatum Love. He lived ten years in Jesup, but lived most of his life in Savannah where he owned and operated Love's Wayside Market at the Traffic Circle in Garden City. He was a member of Local Union #188 Plumbers and Steamfitters, working construction for many years. He was a member of Whitemarsh Island Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Mildred Lucille Yeomans Love; a son, Quintin Darrel Love; four brothers: Tommy, Cecil, Harold, and Hugh Love; and a brother-in-law, Billy K. Vaughn, Sr.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Vaughn of Conyers; sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy M. Love of River View, Florida, and Jack M., Jr., and Candy Love of Savannah; a sister, Emma Lee Bryant of Decatur; a brother-in-law and his wife, Travis and Mildred Yeomans of Savannah; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Love of Glennville and Gertrude Love of Vidalia; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Bro. Daine Bazemore officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Remembrances can be made to Whitemarsh Island Baptist Church, 59 Johnny Mercer Blvd., Savannah, Georgia 31410; Chatham County Association for the Blind, 21 Drayton Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401-4021; or Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 3410 Love's Chapel Road, Glennville, Georgia 30427.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Rosa L. Middleton

Rosa L. Middleton died Thursday, March 30, 2006. She was born February 27, 1922, in Tattnall County, Georgia, to the late Paul and Sally Smith. She was educated in the Tattnall County School System. She was a member of St. James AME Church where she worked faithfully until her illness. She accepted the Lord at an early age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurlen Middleton, and a sister, Willie Mae Rhodes.
Loving and precious memories are left with her devoted children: Mildred (late Roosevelt) Mincey, Linda (Jimmy) Davis, and Marie Oxdenine, all of Glennville; Johnny (Ella A.) Bailey of Bronx, New York; Ernestine (Billy) Williams of Ludowici; Terry (JaNell) Robinson of Reidsville; and Stanley (Leatrice) Middleton of Douglasville; a brother, John C. (Ida) Smith; three sisters-in-law: Florine Williams of Allenhurst, Elizabeth Watkins of Savannah, and Loretta Griffin of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one devoted former daughter-in-law, Joyce Wright of Reidsville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at St. James AME Church in Glennville, officiated by the Rev. Richie Williams.
Pallbearers were Stacy Davis; Sedrick Davis; Terry Robinson, Jr.; Demetruis Robinson; Stanley R. Middleton, Jr.; Kenneth Nesbitt; and Darwin Hudson, Jr.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth R. Shuman

Kenneth R. Shuman, 46, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Candler General Hospital. He was a native of Liberty County, Georgia, and a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation, and presently worked with Bland Farms in Glennville.
He is survived by one son, Shane Shuman of Silverdale, Washington; one daughter, Casey Shuman of Hinesville; four sisters: Edie DeLoach of Glennville and Margie Wells, Michelle Morrison, and Sandy Wells, all of Hinesville; three brothers: Robert Shuman and Donald Shuman of Hinesville and John Shuman of Odum; one grandchild, Dominique Shuman; his fiancée, Lynn Griffee, and daughter, Zoe Griffee of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Gum Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Barnett and the Rev. Joe Eason officiating. Burial was in Gum Branch Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jason Shuman, Kris Shuman, Trey Shuman, Bobby Wells, Jim DeLoach, Joey DeLoach, Terry Wells, and Josh Wells.
Honorary pallbearers were Bo Hearn, Johnny Caudell, Levi Hussey, Rusty Rushing, Wade Ray, and Randy Hughes.
Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel of Hinesville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ocie V. Watson

Ocie V. Watson, 83, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The lifelong resident of Long County was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church. He loved his family and the outdoors.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Little Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward Brannen officiating. Burial was in DeLoach Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian O'Neal, Curtis Sutton, Billy Groover, Gene Groover, Paul Rushing, and William Rowe.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ottis Oliver

Ottis Oliver, 92, died Friday morning, April 22, 2005, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. He was born March 2, 1913, to Marshall and Mary Anderson Oliver. He worked at various jobs until the early 1940s when he worked at the shipyards in Savannah during World War II. Moving back to Tattnall County, he farmed several years until he became a barber, working in Collins, Midville, and Wrens before opening his own shop in Reidsville where he barbered until 1992. He retired at the age of 79. He built the family home he lived in until his death. He was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle in Collins for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clyde and Bernice; sisters Annie Lee Cowart, Vesta Anderson, and Velma Cannon Jarriel; and also by a great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Mindt.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rossie Anderson Oliver of Collins; a son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Joyce Oliver of Cobbtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Julian Rogers of Manassas; a brother, Roger Oliver of Collins; two granddaughters, Julie Mindt and Ginger Culberson; two grandsons, David Rogers and Michael Rogers; four great-granddaughters: Caroline Rogers, Katie Rogers, Carmen Mindt, and Grace Mindt; one great-grandson, Bladen Rogers; one stepgreat-grandson, Kevin Sweat; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Johnny Bradley officiating and the Rev. Greg Brown assisting. Interment was in Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Oliver, Calvin Anderson, Millard Williams, Tony Oliver, Larry Hightower, and Ottis Anderson, Jr.

Willie Gregory

Willie Gregory, 90, died Sunday, April 17, 2005. She was born September 15, 1914, to the late Sallie and Bram Frazier. She was a member of First African Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gregory.
She is survived by three daughters: Juanita Smith of Reidsville, Sallie Landers of Hinesville, and Geneva People of Brooksville, Florida; two sons, James (Emma) Frazier of Brooksville, Florida, and Walter (Doris) Gregory of Bluffton, South Carolina; two sisters, Elizabeth (Rufus) Housey and Mamie Brown; three brothers: Seabrook, Roosevelt, and Bram Frazier, Jr., all of Estill, South Carolina; and several grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at St. James AME in Glennville, with Pastor Richie Williams officiating. Interment was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Willie Lee Glynn, Willie Henry Smith, Hubert Smith, James Smith, Willie Gibson, and Barnie Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Easterling

Louise Easterling, 92, a former resident of Glennville, died peacefully in her rest at her home in Columbia, South Carolina, Monday evening, April 25, 2005. She is the daughter of the Rev. A. V. Barnard and Mamie, who lived at the site now occupied by Barnard Park. Barnard Park was donated to the City by Asa Barnard, a brother of Louise. Louise was the last surviving member of the A. V. Barnard family, which included Eudell, Louise, Reggie and Asa. She was the widow of William B. Easterling, a carpenter, who died in 1975.
She is survived by two sons, Willard B. Easterling of Winter Park, Florida, and Eric J. Easterling of Columbia, South Dakota. Willard (Billy) Easterling, graduated from Glennville High School in 1948.
She worked in the Slotin Department Store in Glennville for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Cobb Funeral Home. Burial was the Barnard family plot in Glennville City Cemetery.

Cequal Baxter

Cequal Howard Baxter, 85, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The Liberty County native had lived most of her life in Long County. She was a retired district manager for AVON Products, and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dan Baxter, and a son, Danny Baxter.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryle B. Kimball of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Gary and Linda Baxter of Bloomingdale; a sister, Winona H. Futch of Glennville; a brother and sister-in-law, C. W. and Shirley Howard, and special cousin and wife, Michael and Connie Howard, all of Long County; grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth and Harvey Knowles and Daniel and Janet Baxter, all of Pooler; Scott Kimball of Sanford, Florida; and Dillon Baxter of Bloomingdale; one great-grandchild, Preston Knowles of Pooler; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Long and the Rev. James Young officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joey A. Futch, David Baxter, Anthony M. Howard, David Howard, Charles Winge, Brian Howard, and George Porter.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dan Wood, Sr.

Dan Wood, Sr., 64, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at his residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia, Inc.
A native of Douglas, Georgia, he had lived in Hinesville the past 30 years. He was employed as a supervisor at Waltrich Plastic Company in Walthourville. He was a U. S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his son, Dan Woods, Jr., of Glennville; one daughter, Kathleen Woods of Savannah; two sisters, Bessie Mae Roberts of Warner Robins and Hazel Smith of Brunswick; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Wilkins officiating. Burial was private.

Bob Woodcock

Robert Henry "Bob" Woodcock, Jr., 68, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the son of the late Henry and Brunell Woodcock, and was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Donna. He was a 1957 graduate of Georgia Tech, and was retired from the Aetna Insurance Company. He was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, and a member and secretary of the Glennville Rotary Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Dara Jan Morehead of Richmond, Virginia; one son, Robert Henry Woodcock III of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren: Stephen Michael Woodcock, Micah Robert Woodcock, and George Hudson Morehead IV.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Glennville City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Keith Rustin.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were members of the Bruce Dubberly Sunday School Class.

Bertha Gunter

Bertha M. Gunter, 76, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Metter. The Polk County, Florida, native had lived in Florida for many years, moving to Glennville several years ago. She was a homemaker, and attended Little Rock Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons: Daryl Wayne Gunter of Glennville; Jerry Lee Gunter of Lakeland, Florida; and Norman Gary Gunter of Plant City, Florida; four sisters: Bernice Mattson and Beatrice Nobles, both of Frostproof, Florida; Betty Ritter of Tampa, Florida; and Barbara Butler of Douglas, Georgia; one brother, Grady Gunter of Glennville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gabe Gill officiating. Burial will be in Port Mayaca Cemetery in Florida at a later date.

Tom Beasley

Tom Reed Beasley, 85, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Tattnall County to a family of the original pioneers of the county. He was an accountant who served many firms around the world. He returned to Reidsville in the early 1970s. He was instrumental in the beginning of Plant Hatch from where he served in several administrative capacities. He was a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Beasley of Reidsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryne Beasley and Roland Michael Toups of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one grandson, Stephen Mitchell (Valarie) Toups of Baton Rouge; one granddaughter, Suzanne (Andy) Toups Adler of Baton Rouge; six great-grandchildren: Matthew Toups Adler, Allison Reed Adler, Shelby McCall Toups, Kathryn Holland Adler, Stephanie Michele Toups, and Roland Michael Toups II.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Hudson, Marshall Singletary, and Grady Walden officiating. Interment will follow in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Shuman, Louie Smith, Sterling Bargeron, Buddy McCall, Jackie Trim, and Rabun Phillips.
Memorials can be made to the American Camellia Society, 100 Massee Lane, Ft. Valley, Georgia 31030, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
