Betty Baxter
Betty Durrence Baxter, 70, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at her residence in Glennville, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Cleve Durrence. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church and the Glennville Garden Club. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, S. M. Baxter of Glennville; one daughter, Rebecca B. Thompson of Glennville; two sons, D. Mark Baxter of Macon, Georgia, and John S. Baxter of Glennville; two sisters, Mary D. Moore of Glennville and Winnie Loyce Massengale of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at Glennville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Posey and the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sonny Armstrong, Dan Dubberly, Billy Purcell, Dana Durrence, Jared Durrence, Danny Dubberly, and Mack Durrence.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jewel Glenn
Jewell Brown Glenn, 80, died peacefully at her residence in Crescent, Georgia, on Monday, April 29, 2002. The Glennville native moved to Crescent in 1975. She was of the Catholic faith, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chylor and Sina Brown, and a sister, Doris Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Glenn of Crescent; one daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Bud Wolf of Sykesville, Maryland; two sons and daughters-in-law, David "Boeby" and Hessie Vaughn of Elyria, Ohio, and Dwayne and Vickie Vaughn of Apex, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Father Cletus Pifher officiating. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Millard Watson
Millard H. Watson, 88, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of his life. He was retired from the City of Glennville, and a member of Glennville Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Cliff Waters of Glennville; two sisters, Melrose Bargeron of Dover, Florida, and Novadeen Hunt of Newington, Georgia; one brother, Haven Watson of Coloma, Michigan; four grandchildren: Nicholas Waters, Joseph Waters, Michelle Wise, and Bryan Waters; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Barnard officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Derrell Weitman, Gene Folsom, Doyle Ray, Roger Kicklighter, Niles Peden, and Bryan Waters.

Kathren Boyd
Kathren Baker Boyd, 83, died Saturday morning, April 27, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Camden County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker, seamstress, and a member of Reidsville Baptist Church. She was the widow of Mr. Robert E. Boyd.
She is survived by two daughters, Melba Boatright of Claxton, Georgia, and Andrea Stanley of Lyons, Georgia; three sons and daughters-in-law: Raneldo and George Ann Boyd of Reidsville; Ranellis and Sharon Boyd of Duluth, Georgia; and Revis and Beth Boyd of Ludowici, Georgia; one sister, Gracie Inez Rush of Glennville, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marion Patton officiating.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.

Pamela F. Graves
Pamela Faye Graves, 49, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was a food industry clerk, and a homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters: Tamatha Martin of Youngstown, Florida, and Ardessa Graves and Leigha Graves of Lyons; three sons: Shannon Love and Donny Love of St. Mary’s and Bodie Graves of Lyons; her fiancé, Calvin Bragg of Metter; brothers and sisters: Annette Spikes, Willard Arnold, and Ronald Arnold, all of Reidsville; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 12 noon Thursday, May 5, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville chapel.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Henry Young
Henry Young, 63, died May 1, 2005, at his residence in Claxton. He was the son of the late Arthur Lee Young and the late Eva Mobley. He attended school in Tattnall County; lived in Miami, Florida, for many years; and was employed at Claxton Poultry, Inc. He was a member of Mt. Zion No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Tyson, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Young of Ocilla, Georgia; two daughters, Mary Ford of Glennville and Frenchetta Mincey of Statesboro; one stepson, Johnny Williams of Ocilla; four sisters: Alvina Poe of Waldorf, Maryland; Mazie “Bill” Johnson of Miami; and Edwina Young and Lillie Mae Pierre of Claxton; three brothers: Willie A. Young (Jessie Mae) of Reidsville; Hoshea Eason of Jesup, and Richard Eason of Miami; one aunt and one uncle, Annie Kelly and James Mobley, both of Atlanta; four grandchildren; and many nieces (including devoted niece Evon Diggs), nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Mt. Zion No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Tyson. Burial will be in Robert Chapel Cemetery in Tyson.

Jimmy Murray
Jimmy Murray, 65, died Friday, April 30, 2005, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life until moving to Lyons 15 years ago. He retired from Rogers Correctional Institution as a correctional officer. He was a member of Elza Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Murray of Lyons; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Phil Hancock of Louisville; a son and daughter-in-law, Donovan and Kellie Murray of Lyons; three sisters, Johnnie Belle Rogers of Glennville and Betty Carol Smith and Linda Dooley of Reidsville; three brothers, Carl Murray of Lyons and Aubrey Murray and Julian Murray of Reidsville; five grandchildren: Kayci and Kelli Howell and Courtney, Cole, and Joshua Murray; one stepgranddaughter, Lauren Turpin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, at Elza Baptist Church, with the Rev. Elmer Caraway and Al Sikes officiating. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kerry Murray, Daniel Caraway, Brian Murray, Adam Caraway, Randall Murray, and Dave Murray.

Sara Mosley

Sara Rush Mosley, 61, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Claxton Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The Appling County native had lived in Bloomington, Minnesota, for eight years prior to returning to Tattnall County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada Bell and Will Rush of Mendes, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, John Mosley of Mendes; three sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Harris Nix. Burial was in Mendes Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Hendrix, Dean Pearson, Russell Pearson, Danny Prudence, Mark Hendrix, and Bill Smith.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Ryan

Clarence Earl Ryan, 57, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, Georgia, from injuries in a motorcycle-auto accident. He was born in Buffalo, New York, living in Maryland and Hinesville for many years, moving to Glennville in 1981. He retired from the U. S. Army with the rank of sergeant first class, and served two tours in Vietnam. He was employed with Economic Exterminators, and was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Moon.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine W. Ryan of Glennville; children, Tim Ryan and Kim Smith, both of Glennville; three sisters: Melissa Thompkins, Clara Lynn Aebi, and Jacqueline Irene Nauton, all of Glen Burnie, Maryland; two brothers, James Wesley Ryan of Winter Park, Florida, and Frank Louis Ryan of Westminster, Maryland; a grandson, Dylan Ryan Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home in Severna Park, Maryland. Burial was in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland, with full military honors.

Gerald W. Dasher

Gerald W. Dasher, 62, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at his residence after a lengthy illness. The Tattnall County native was a member of the Glennville United Methodist Church, and a former chairman of the Tattnall County Board of Commissioners. He was co-owner of G&R Farms, specializing in growing and marketing Vidalia sweet onions, tobacco, peanuts, row crops, timber, and livestock; chairman of the United Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Association; former member of former Governor Zell Miller’s International Board of Industry and Trade; member of the National Onion Association and Georgia Forestry Association; and a former member of the Board of Directors of First Citizens Bank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. and Winnie Fennel Dasher, and a brother, Ronald Dasher.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Durrence Dasher of Glennville, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Mike Mulligan of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Anita Dasher of Glennville; a sister and brother-in-law, Lauree and Eugene Kicklighter of Glennville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Debbie Dasher and Jackie and Barbara Dasher, all of Glennville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Glennville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Clinton Dasher, Jr.; Merriell Durrence; Robert Collins; G. W. Thompson; Derrell Bland; Wayne Durrence; Greg Dasher; Heath Dasher; and Blake Dasher.
Honorary pallbearers were Buster Miles, David Skinner, Pat Calhoun, Lindsay Thomas, Earl Bass, Jack Kingston, John O. Parker, Tommy Irvin, Johnny Kicklighter, Cecil Nobles, Ronald Giddens, James Dasher, Eugene Dasher, Dr. Glen Dasher, Norman Schwartzkopf, Bill Thornberry, Homer Durrence, Max Cleland, Dennis Strickland, and Julian Dasher.
Remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Curtis Tatum

Curtis E. Tatum, 91, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was the retired owner and operator of Tatum’s Store. He was a member and elder of Cornerstone Bible Church, and a member of Philadelphia Masonic Lodge of Glennville, Georgia.
He was the son of John Cleve Tatum and Altha Kicklighter Tatum, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Christine Durrence Tatum.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherrie T. and Terry Waters of Glennville and Reba and Doyle Williams of Lyons; one son and daughter-in-law, Hal “Butch” and Sharon Tatum of Lilburn; two sisters, Myrtice Sikes of Reidsville and Merle Durrence of Glennville; four brothers: Dwight Tatum, Willie Joe Tatum, and Eugene “Tiny” Tatum, all of Glennville; and John C. Tatum of Reidsville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Bro. Robert Kicklighter officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Tatum, James Tatum, Dale Tatum, Willie Durrence, Paul Tatum, Danny Kicklighter, and Gene Tatum.

Florence Thrift

Florence Petty Thrift, 95, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Charlton County native moved to Tattnall County in 1948. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harvey Thrift; a son, Robert Thomas Thrift; and two daughters, Uldine O’Neal and Annette Strickland.
She is survived by three daughters: Eunice Kemp and Charlotte Bacon, both of Glennville, and Carolyn Stannell of Winder; two sons, Morris Thrift of Glennville and Eugene Thrift of Townsend; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Thrift, Dennis Strickland, Steve Bacon, Kenneth Thrift, Anthony Bacon, and Jeff Smith.

Walter Coleman

Walter Nash Coleman, Jr, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003. He was a native of Glennville, living in Folkston for many years. He was a retired Civil Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a former Commander of the VFW, a Wagonmaster with the Okefenokee Good Sam’s for eight years and a Wagonmaster with the Golden Isles Good Sam’s for four years. He was a U.S. Army and Korean War Veteran and a member of the Folkston United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Nick Coleman.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Moody Coleman of Folkston; two daughters, Angela K. Coleman of St. Marys and Tamra L. Coleman of North Brunswick, New Jersey; a grandson and his wife, Tim and Lisa Crews of Macon; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lamont and Madera Moody of Glennville; and sister-in-laws, Loree Miller of Baltimore, Maryland, and Polly Moody of Glennville.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Glennville City Cemetery.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville is in charge of the arrangements.

Bill Barwick

William “Bill” Barwick Wilson, 91, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home after a long illness. The Jenkins County native had lived in Tennille for 22 years before moving to Glennville, Georgia, in 1983. He was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church, and was a retired agent for Central of Georgia Railroad after 37 years’ service.
He is survived by two sons, Gerald Wilson of Gordon and George Wilson of Sandersville; one sister, Marion Royal of Egypt; three sisters-in-law, Aldine Donaldson and Myrtice Kicklighter of Glennville and Mary Wilson of McIntyre; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rex Kicklighter, Trent Kicklighter, Cliff Kicklighter, John Ed Kicklighter, Billy Royal, and David Royal.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
