John O'Hare

John P. O’Hare, 72, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Meadows Regional Medical Center. The Massachusetts native had lived in Tattnall County since 1975. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University. The U. S. Army veteran served in the Korean Conflict, and retired as a sergeant first class. He also retired as Deputy Warden of Rogers State Correctional Institution. He was a member of the American Correctional Association, Disabled American Veterans, and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Bertie O’Hare of Reidsville; two daughters, Patricia “Spiffie” Smith of Reidsville and Cecelia “CC” O’Hare of Glennville; two sons, James Alan O’Hare of Reidsville and John (Kitty) O’Hare of Glennville; two sisters, Barbara Lloyd of New Hampshire and Dottie Finn of Massachusetts; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. J. Michael Morgan. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery, with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Brad Anderson, Bobby John O’Neal, Patrick Powell, Rick Andrews, Johnny Andrews, and Charlie Rush.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia DeLoach

Patricia L. DeLoach, 56, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Wayne, Michigan, at Oakwood Hospital after two and one-half years battling injuries sustained in a severe accident on January 29, 2002. She is the daughter of James F. Young and the late Maggie Lee. She is the daughter-in-law of the late Ira and Irene DeLoach.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Scott Lipscomb of Linden, Michigan; sons and daughter-in-law, David DeLoach of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and James and Juanita DeLoach of Thomson, Georgia; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Clifford Miller; grandchildren: Michael, Danielle, Jordan, Josiah, Ashley, Stacey, and Elizabeth; husband of 17 years, Sonny DeLoach of Glennville; and many loving relatives, friends, and co-workers.
A rosary service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel.
Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at St. Jude Catholic Church, conducted by Father Heely. Burial was in DeLoach Family Cemetery.

Edwina Pfluger

Edwina Pfluger, 61, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Staten Island, New York, native had lived in Reidsville for the past 26 years. She was retired from Georgia State Prison, and was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marco and Edwina Conti, and her brother, Joe Conti.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Pfluger, Jr., of Andover, Kansas, and Doug Pfluger of Reidsville; one daughter, Marie Wallace of Naples, Florida; one brother, John Conti of Hazlet, New Jersey; one sister, Marie Santili of Hazlet, New Jersey; six grandchildren: Jennifer Pfluger, Johnny Pfluger, Eddie Pfluger, Nicole Pfluger, Michael Wallace, and Landon Pfluger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Georgia State Prison Honor Guard served as pallbearers.

Richard Speir

Richard E. Speir, 47, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Florida native had previously lived in Savannah and had lived in Glennville for the past six months. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, and a retired computer engineer with the U. S. government. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Stanfield.
He is survived by his mother, Guineth Speir of Glennville; sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy and Richard Griner of Savannah and Jan Hargett and friend, Lee Hickey, of Bloomingdale; one brother, Randy Speir of Glennville; several nieces and nephews; and special family, Susan Campbell, Lynette Higgins, and James Campbell, and grandchildren, all of Colorado.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Marvin Powell

Marvin C. Powell, 72, died late Monday night, June 21, 2004, at Candler County Hospital in Metter. The Tattnall County native lived in Savannah for 24 years before moving back to Reidsville in 1974. He was a building contractor, local businessman, a lover of Bluegrass music, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances Johnson Powell of Reidsville; three sons and daughters-in-law: Robert and Lisa Powell of Reidsville; Ramon and Michelle Powell of Lyons; and Randy Powell of Guyton; one sister, Dollie Hines of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Reidsville Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Marion Patton and the Rev. Charlie Edge. Interment will follow in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Doug Johnson, Greg Johnson, Richard Braddy, Wiley Sumner, and Eddie Horne.

James L. Driggers

James Ledfore Driggers, 84, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Orlando, Florida, for many years, moving back to Glennville in 1984. He was a retired master electrician, and was one of the original employees who helped build the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a 50-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a member of Glennville VFW Post #8379, and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jerelle Casteen Driggers of Glennville; one daughter, Gail D. Tye of Jacksonville, Florida; three sons: Merrill Driggers of Eustis, Florida; Don Driggers of Manerva, Ohio; and Keith Driggers of Mooresville, North Carolina; two sisters, Madie Smiley of Glennville and Mary Nell Kennedy of Savannah; one brother, Lyndell T. Driggers of Lake Helen, Florida; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Denver Barrow, Mark Brewton, Tim Dubberly, Joe Brewton, Ricky Kicklighter, and Gary Banks.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Glennville VFW Post #8379.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Eva Mae Oglesby

Eva Mae Oglesby, 77, died June 4, 2003, at Hospice Savannah. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker, and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Collins. She sang for several years with the M.E.L. Tones. She and her husband, the Rev. Robert Oglesby, were married for over 49 years. She preceded her husband in death by 13 days.
She is survived by one sister, Mary C. Hernandez of Savannah; one aunt, Laura M. Ulrich of Angier, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Odum Family Cemetery in Lyons, with the Rev. Greg Smith officiating.
Pallbearers were Bobby Stevens, Richard Higgs, Christopher Stevens, Therrell Sapp, and Will Sutton.
Cobb Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph R. Branson

Joseph Rudolph Branson, 80, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Hospice Savannah. The Tattnall County native was a member of Meldrim Baptist Church, and retired from Union Camp after 40 years of service. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, with tours in Italy and Germany. He enjoyed fishing and doing yard work.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Minnie Branson of Bloomingdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Allen Gilbert of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two sisters, Thelma Driggers of Hinesville and Lois O’Donnell of Lakeland, Florida; a godchild, Cindy Oder of Rincon; a grandson, Joseph Gilbert; a granddaughter, Alicia Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Duston Rogers and Caleb Gilbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home West Chatham Chapel. Interment was in Lake Cemetery in Metter.
Remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 6th Floor, New York, New York 10001.

Bubba Howe

Walter V. “Bubba” Howe, 42, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at McDuffie County Hospital. He was a native of Augusta, an electrician, an avid fisherman and hunter, and a Georgia Bulldog fan.
He is survived by his wife, Leeanne Cooper Howe of Appling, Georgia; a stepson, Charles A. Stroschein of Casselberry, Florida; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Deborah Mae and Robert Wolfe of Orlando, Florida; Dianna H. and Allen Murray of Reidsville, Georgia; and Catherine H. and Mike Arrington of Augusta; and nieces and nephews: Robin Wolfe, Renee Wolfe Hill, Rachel Wolfe, Stacy Murray Blocker, William “Billy” Murray, and Lindsay, Craig, and Patrick Arrington.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with the Rev. C. W. Edwards officiating. Interment was in Langley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William “Billy” Murray, Craig Arrington, Jared Blocker, Clark Cooper, Chuck Stroschein, Johnny Jones, and Allen Isdell, Jr.

Janelle Durrence

Janelle Stubbs Durrence, 72, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Raleigh Hugh Durrence, and parents, Elder H. C. and Danella Stubbs.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Gene Williams and Danna and Merriell Durrence, all of Glennville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Valerie Durrence and Bruce and Beth Durrence, all of Glennville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Alice Branan of Glennville and Lucy and Bob Forrest of Poquoson, Virginia; three brothers and sisters-in-law: H. C. and Joyce Stubbs of Glennville; Dan and Winnie Stubbs of Waynesboro, Virginia; and Francis and Barbara Stubbs of Reidsville; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Garrett Durrence, Heath Smith, Evan Durrence, Matthew Durrence, Herschel Durrence, and Bo Stubbs.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy Jarriel and deacons of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

Evon Smith

Evon Kicklighter Smith, 87, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had been a life member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, a thoughtful friend, and a loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zeddie H. Smith, and a son, James D. Smith.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dannis and Reba Smith of Claxton; two brothers, Dwight Kicklighter of Sandersville and Raiford Kicklighter of Glennville; three sisters: Kathleen Kirkland and Gwineth Speir, both of Glennville, and Bobbie Jones of Claxton; two granddaughters and husbands, April and Andy Brown of Claxton and Brooke and Bryan Roberts of Calhoun; one grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of California; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ray Lecounte

Ray Lecounte, 45, of Glennville, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, Georgia. The West Palm Beach, Florida, native had served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Hagan Temple Grace Deliverance Church in Hagan, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta Lecounte of Glennville; three sons: Tyrone Lecounte, Ray Lecounte, Jr., and Maurice Lecounte, all of Glennville; one daughter, Christine Lecounte of Glennville; his mother and stepfather, Louise and Joshua Wynn of Riceboro; his father, Abraham Woods of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sisters, Angela Wynn of Brunswick and Eleana Woods of Ft. Myers, Florida; two brothers, Joseph Wynn of Riceboro and Joseph Woods of Ft. Myers, Florida; his mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Moss of Hagan; one grandchild; three aunts, two uncles, three great-aunts, and one great-uncle; five brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at First Zion Baptist Church in Riceboro. Burial was in the church cemetery. A wake service was held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the W. H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter.
