Henry Durrence, Jr.

Henry Durrence, Jr., 50, died Wednesday morning, November 24, 2004, at his residence. The Evans County native had lived in Reidsville for many years, moving to Statesboro 20 years ago. He was a self-employed land surveyor, and was a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Durrence of Statesboro; two sons, Heath Durrence of Boston and Dustin Durrence of Statesboro; one daughter, Amanda Durrence of Statesboro; his father, Homer Durrence of Reidsville; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Derril Waters of Reidsville; his grandmother, Beatrice Durrence of Reidsville, a brother, Dennis Durrence of Reidsville; one granddaughter, Chelsea Durrence of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 27, officiated by the Rev. John Donaldson and the Rev. Marshall Singletary. Interment was in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Clay Anderson, Byron Harden, Gary Durrence, Mark McCall, Frank Boland, and Val Duncan.
Honorary pallbearers were Adam Welch, Duane Harrelson, Joe Davis, Ronnie Thomas, Jackie Rogers, and Jerry McCumber.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie Woodward

Lillie Waters Woodward died November 30, 2004, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Savannah, Georgia. She was born November 22, 1918, in Glennville and lived in Port Wentworth most of her life. She was a graduate of Glennville High School, and attended Georgia Southern College. She was a beautician and a homemaker. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth where she worked in the church library from its inception. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, W. B. Woodward, Jr., and her parents, Elec Waters and Eva "Bennie” Banks Waters of Glennville.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Lyndill Woodward of Midway, Georgia; and Baker and Linda Woodward and Fletcher and Betsy Woodward of Savannah; one sister, Myrtice Kicklighter of Glennville; a brother and sister-in-law, Beach and Betty Waters of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Raddie Woodward of Conway, South Carolina; grandchildren: Lisa Boatright of Rincon; Cheryl Zettler of Clyo; Baker IV, Scott, and Reed Woodward of Savannah; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel, in Pooler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2, at First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice Savannah, P. O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia, or to First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth, P. O. Box 4066, Port Wentworth, Georgia 31407.

Bobby Brackin

Robert Benjamin “Bobby” Brackin, 38, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at his residence. He had lived most of his life in Glennville, Georgia, and had been employed by the Georgia Department of Corrections for the past 19 years. He was currently chief of security at Southeast Probation Detention Center in Claxton, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers’ Association, and had served as a Georgia high school referee for 15 years. He was a member of Collins First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marianne Brackin of Glennville; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Lyndsay Rebecca Brackin of Glennville; Lynda and David Moore of Starkville, Mississippi; and Lacy and Steven Shuman of Collins, Georgia; son, David Knighton, Starkville, Mississippi; his parents, Becky and Gene Brackin of Glennville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gena and Dell Rogers and Shae and Larson Stanfield, all of Glennville; four grandchildren; and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Allan McCoy. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Cliff Kennedy, Greg Stewart, Jessie Durden, Lonnie Bradley, Mike Waters, Steve Rush, Dale Durrence, and Ron Waters.
Remembrances can be made to the Lyndsay Rebecca Brackin Memorial Fund, c/o Glennville Bank, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Barbara Grinstead

Barbara Nell Bacon Grinstead, 87, died Thursday morning, November 28, 2002, at Claxton Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville, Georgia, all of her life. She was retired from the Tattnall County School System. She served over the years as an elementary and high school teacher and counselor. In addition, she taught from time to time overflow classes for the Georgia Southern University History Department. She also taught classes at Brewton-Parker College. She was a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church, and the Lillian Eason Sunday School Class where she taught from time to time. She held membership in the General Josiah Tattnall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Huguenot Society of Georgia, the Retired Teachers Association, the Reidsville Grand Rascallettes, and the Reidsville Garden Club. She was an avid gardener, and loved to cook and crochet for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estin Grinstead, and her daughter, Brenda Shuman.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Anna Shuman of Reidsville; three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law: Ben Shuman of Glennville, Georgia; and John and Lana Shuman and Mark and Victoria Shuman, all of Reidsville; a son-in-law, Buck Shuman of Reidsville; one sister, Joan Bacon White of Glennville; one aunt, Zelma Keels of Glennville; three great-grandchildren: Megan Shuman, Luke Shuman, and Chapman Shuman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, at Reidsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Hudson and the Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating. Interment followed in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ben Shuman; Robert Balkcom; John Shuman; Dennis White, Jr.; Mark Shuman; and Dewey Nail.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to Reidsville United Methodist Church.

Cecil Groover

Cecil Enoch Groover, 80, died Monday, November 25, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a farmer, and owner and operator of Catfish Creek Farm. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ernestine W. Groover of Glennville, Georgia; one daughter, Linda G. Griffin of Glennville; three sons: Danny T. Groover of Summerville, South Carolina; and Leslie Groover and Mike Groover, both of Glennville; two sisters, Thelma G. Bowen and Irene G. Smith, both of Glennville; one brother, Olney Groover of the South Pacific; ten grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Nicy Wetherington of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 28, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Gary Branch, Jerry Burkhalter, Jerry Dutton, Ernie Maddox, Raymond McGlashan, and Larry McLeod.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Grooms, Mills Tarver, Garland Stephens, Charlie Holmes, L. C. Walker, Pete Johnson, Dana Durrence, Carlos Blocker, Coolidge Waters, Joe Norman, Frank Pelletier, Danny Durrence, and Danny Blocker.
Remembrances can be made to the Glennville First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edna Romano

Edna Strickland Romano, 57, died Friday, December 3, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was employed by Claxton Poultry, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Walsh of New York and DeAngelo Walsh of Florida; her mother, Sally Busby of Glennville; three brothers: Lewis Swope, Olan Strickland, and Ronnie Strickland, all of Glennville; a special cousin, Betty McKinzie of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 6, at Carter Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Knight. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Gene Swope, Timmy Strickland, Brad Swope, Wayne Strickland, John Swope, and Brad Grooms.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. William J. Martin III

Dr. William J. Martin III, 61, died Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Ft. Stewart. The South Carolina native had formerly lived in Vidalia for over 20 years and in Glennville for the past three years. He was a graduate of The University of Georgia with a degree in Veterinary Medicine, and was employed by the Georgia Poultry Laboratory. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U. S. Army, was a former deacon of First Baptist Church of Vidalia, and was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church. He was active in the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Clinton Martin of Glennville; a daughter and son-in law, Laura Eileen and Dustin Lee McMillan of Alconberry, England; sons and daughter-in law: Patrick and Tommie Martin of Macon; John Martin of Glennville; and William “Jeff” Martin, serving on the USS Cowpens in Yokosuko, Japan; his father, William J. Martin, Jr., of Blacksburg, South Carolina; two brothers, Glenn E. Martin and Everett W. Martin, both of Blacksburg, South Carolina; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin and the Rev. David Everton officiating. Burial will be in Blacksburg, South Carolina, on Friday, December 10.
Remembrances can be made to The Gideons or to the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Emily Jo Waters

Emily Jo Waters, 68, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at Hospice House in Savannah after a long illness. She was born in Sumter County and moved to Reidsville in 1956. She was a member of Americus First Presbyterian Church, and attended Reidsville Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Romie Waters.
She is survived by a daughter, Cindy O’Neal of Lyons; sons and special daughter in-law, James A. “Jim” Waters and Joseph Romie “Joe” and Sandy Waters, all of Reidsville; nine grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 3, at Reidsville Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Marion “Dick” Patton and the Rev. Sterling Bargeron. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Bowen, Cliff Miller, John V. McCall, John Wingate, Steve Durrence, and Bobby Collins.
Remembrances can be made to the Tattnall County Relay For Life Cancer Fund.

Larry Webb II

Larry Deal Webb II, 20, died Sunday, December 5, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Washington State native had lived in Tattnall County most of his life, and was a mower technician. He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America, and attended Reidsville Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Larry and Susie Webb of Lyons; two sisters, Kayla Webb and Connie Webb, both of Lyons; one brother, Andy Webb of Lyons; and grandparents, Henry and Jacqueline Friend of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville chapel, with the Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating. Burial was in Little Flock Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Stewart; Johnny Griggers; Frank Boula; Jerry Odom, Jr.; Daniel Morris; and Danny Coleman.
Cobb Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

George W. Brannen

George W. Brannen, 63, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was formerly employed by the Tattnall County Road Department, and was also a farmer.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in law, Lucille and Frank Driggers of Savannah; a brother and sister-in law, Mickey and Debbie Brannen of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, conducted by the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr. Burial was in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Ed Kicklighter, Rex Kicklighter, Trent Kicklighter, Terry Driggers, Ronnie Driggers, and Kerry Driggers.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
