Sudie Beckworth Bishop, 85
Sudie Beckworth Bishop, 85, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at her residence after a brief illness. This Emanuel County native was the daughter of the late Carrie Ridgdille and James Beckworth. She was retired from Liberty Bell and was a homemaker and a member of Bishop’s Chapel Baptist Church. After retiring she spent many long hours working and caring with elderly people.
She is survived by her son, Bobby R. Bishop of Martinez; sister, Arline B. Wallace of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Michelle Bishop Ivey of Charlotte, NC, and Baron Bishop of Swainsboro; six great-grandchildren; and several stepchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 28, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. John Strickland officiating. Interment followed in the Bishop Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery near Summertown, GA.
Pallbearers were Donnie Beckworth, Larry Powell, Jerry Bishop, Curley Kitchens, Joe Nasworthy, and Rodney Beckworth.
Honorary pallbearers were Edward Bishop, Russell Collins, Rodney Beckworth, Raymond Bell, Ralph Tapley, Ernie Grindler, Billy Screws, Reynolds Johnson, Esko Ellison, Carl Bishop, and George Coleman.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene A. Eaby, 91
Eugene A. Eaby, 91, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Pennsylvania native had lived in Glennville since 1991. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, the American Legion and was retired from the U.S. Army with 28 years of service. He was stationed at the White House and had served under six presidents.
He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Peacock of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene, Jr., and Nancy Eaby of Joppa Towne, MD, Curtis and Joyce Eaby of Daytona Beach, FL, Robert and Kathy Eaby of White Plains, MD, and Alan and Judy Eaby of Ormond Beach, FL; eleven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, March 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Tony Caldwell officiating. Entombment will follow at Glennville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Remembrances can be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Macon, GA.

Maggie Ambrose Lewis, 75
Mrs. Maggie Ambrose Lewis, 75, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Evans County native had lived in Hagan all of her life. She retired as the City Clerk of Hagan. She was a member of Hagan United Methodist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including, Janell Brown, JoAnn Crews Kitchens, and Jean Crooke, all of Claxton.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 3, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Hagan Methodist Church with Rev. Clarence Cawthon officiating. Interment followed in the Brewton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Hendrix, Wayne Crooke, Wayne Massey, Mark Brown, Danny Miller, Jr., and James Mosley.

Ruby Jane Moody, 79
Ruby Jane Moody, 79, died Sunday, March 2, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Long County and a member of Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Moody.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Roger Kicklighter of Glennville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Janet Moody of Long County; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Young officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Moody, Bill Wingate, Mike Wingate, Richard Faulk, Paul Kicklighter, and Randy Moody.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Faircloth Pursley, 81
Hazel Faircloth Pursley, 81, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at Midway Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived at Isle of Wight since 1977. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. (Johnny) Pursley.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Patsy Long of Isle of Wight, and Tommy and Paula Bateman of Orlando, FL; sister, Lyndal Hozack of Minneola, FL; brother, James Faircloth of Glennville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Minneola Cemetery in Minneola, FL.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of local arrangements.

Shirley Jean Strickland, 61
Shirley Jean Strickland, 61, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at East Georgia Regional Hospital. The Ware County native had lived in Reidsville since 1973. She was a homemaker and was Pentecostal in faith. She was preceded in death by a son, Willie Strickland.
She is survived by her children, Ricky Strickland of Glennville, Obie Strickland of Reidsville, Walter Strickland of Reidsville, and Darlene Bunch of Reidsville; two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law; sisters, Ruby O’Neal of Jesup, Vera Prichard of Evansville, TN, and Christine Turner of Evansville, TN; brothers, W. T. Screws of Jacksonville, FL, and Charlie Screws of Reidsville; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 2, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with Rev. William Prince officiating. Burial followed in Inman Creek Cemetery in Toombs County.
Pallbearers were Brad Barnard, Robert Shore, Wally Rhoden, Gene Kirkland, Jr., Eddie Merritt, Derrick Murray, Kevin Barnard, and Junior Herb.
Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

James E. (Jim) Wells, 52
James E. (Jim) Wells, 52, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at his residence. The New York native had lived in Glennville for the past 27 years and was employed by Duramatics for 21 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and a U.S. Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Nell Wells of Glennville; stepsons, Talmadge Ray, Ricky Ray, and Wade Ray all of Glennville; sister, Susan Schreckengost of New York; brothers, Steven Wells and David Wells of New York, and Gregory Wells of Atlanta; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Wilton Ray, Rev. David Everton, and Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Burial followed in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Adam Wells, Craig Sapp, Benjie Ray, Trey Parrish, Chris Wilson, and Keith Schreckengost.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Fannie B. Burte, 94
Fannie B. Burte, 94, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Garden City, Michigan. This Tattnall County native was born in Collins, GA. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Burte.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Mae Ullrich and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, 2003, at L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, Westland Chapel, with Pastor Richard Pingilley of North Ridge Church officiating. Interment followed in Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, MI.
L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, Westland Chapel, of Michigan was in charge of the arrangements.

Clifford Lee Cunningham, 55
Clifford Lee Cunningham, 55, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness. The Bibb County native had resided in Reidsville since 1974. He was a teacher for thirty-two years, working for the Department of Corrections, Juvenile Justice and public schools. When he wasn’t on the tennis court, he could be found in his shop working on his latest project. He was often seen jogging or biking through town.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marsha Cunningham of Reidsville; two sons, Cory Cunningham of Statesboro and Cody Cunningham of Reidsville; mother, Adele Cunningham of Atlanta; brother, Bob Cunningham of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews survive.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reidsville United Methodist Church.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Reidsville United Methodist Youth Program, PO Box 218, Reidsville, GA 30453, or Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1729, Americus, GA 31709.

Martha Jean Eason Smith, 73
Martha Jean Eason Smith, 73, died Sunday, March 2, 2003. Born in Reidsville, she moved to Orlando in 1963 where she taught Elementary and Gifted education and was the state coordinator of the Gifted Children in Problem Solving. She was also talented in music and art. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Howard Smith.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Viki and Jim Rose of Orlando, FL, and Kimberely and Jeff Jones of Groveland, FL; sister, Virginia Kicklighter of Reidsville; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Eason of Reidsville and Joyce Durden of Twin City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the Reidsville United Methodist Church.

Sue Nell Anderson, 79
Sue Nell Anderson, 79, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Janis McCurdy, after an extended illness. A native of Tattnall County, she resided in Glennville most of her life, graduating from Glennville High School in 1942. She was owner of Sue’s Beauty Shop and retired in 1981. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Bible Church. Sue Nell was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Anderson.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elton M. Anderson; daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Jimmy McCurdy of Glennville; one granddaughter, Lisa McCurdy Barry of Glennville; grandson, Lee McCurdy of Shellman Bluff; two great-grandchildren, Blake Barry and Turner McCurdy; sister, Samarata Griffin; four brothers, Racile Dreggors, William Dreggors, Norris Dreggors, and Larry Dreggors; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Bible Church conducted by Bro. Robert Kicklighter. Burial was at Pigot Branch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Dreggors, Steve Dreggors, Mike Dreggors, Mark Griffin, Tommy Hilliard, and Glenn Purcell.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Cornerstone Bible Church, P.O. Box 598, Glennville, GA 30427.
Cobb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
