Milo Walter Jarrell, 88
Milo Walter Jarrell, 88, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Candler County Hospital. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident retired from J.H. Parker Oil Company. He was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, teacher and director of the Bible Study, member and a past secretary of Roger Wood Masonic Lodge. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Weitman; granddaughter, Debra Weitman; and great-grandson, James Milo Jarrell, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie H. Jarrell of Collins; sons and daughter-in-law, Rev. J. Walter and Linda Jarrell of Vidalia and Kenneth Jarrell of Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Paul Rivers of Hinesville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John W. Jarrell, Jr., Kenneth Rivers, Patrick Rivers, James Jarrell, Michael Jarrell, and Dennis Gerrald.
Remembrances may be made to Cedar Primitive Baptist Church, Rt. 2 Box 13, Collins, GA 30421.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances C. Moody, 62
Frances C. Moody, 62, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was a life long resident of Long County, a homemaker and a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Andrew and Doshia Moody.
She is survived by her companion, Robert Weitman; a special aunt, Sally Moody; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Pigott Branch Baptist Church with Rev. James O. Young officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Royce Folsom, Tommy Wells, Jr., Doyle Flowers, Dale Moody, Jamie DeLoach, and Carroll Goss.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie Jake Anderson, 73
Charlie Jake Anderson, 73, died at his residence in Kountz, TX, Tuesday, May 27, 2003. He was a native of Tattnall County. He had lived in Kountz 23 years and was a retired electrician for Biscamp Electrical and Broun & Root Construction. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Anderson of Kountz, TX; one daughter, Linda Pelzer of Deer Park, TX; one son, Charlie Anderson of Deer Park, TX; one brother, Jeff Anderson of Manassas; two sisters, Queen Sikes of Ft. Myers, FL, and Mollie McCall of Reidsville; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Broussard’s Funeral Home in Kountz, TX. Interment was in Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, TX, with Military Rites at graveside.
Broussard’s Funeral Home in Kountz was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Kathryn Nelson Brown, 84
Mary Kathryn Nelson Brown, 84, of Lyons died Sunday evening, June 1, 2003, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. She was born in 1918 in Glennville. She was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Mary Elizabeth Nelson of Reidsville, graduated from the Georgia State College for Women and taught school in Lyons. During WWII she was employed by McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, MO, and assisted engineers who designed the first jet airplane by performing various mathematical calculations. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was widely known for her friendliness and outgoing nature and one who truly strove to make people feel special and loved. Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons and a member of the Lyons Garden Club. She was married to Robert “Bob” Jordan Brown who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Jordan Brown, Jr., and Ray Nowlin Brown; one sister, Beth Nelson Broome; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, June 4, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Lyons with Rev. Grady Walden officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Madera Dasher Smith, 84
Madera Dasher Smith, 84, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at S.E. Medical Center in Brunswick. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Claxton before retiring to Jekyll Island about ten years ago. She was a member of the Claxton United Methodist Church and was the former owner and operator of Madera’s Gift Shop in Claxton. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Smith and son, Dana J. Smith.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Judy Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Alex and Nan Smith of Duluth; brother and sister-in-law, John Arthur and Bootsie Dasher of Glennville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel. Burial followed in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Middleton, Shannon Middleton, Bryan Middleton, Doug Sawyer, David Ryals, and Leonard Stimpson.

Wayne W. Addis, 77
Wayne W. Addis, 77, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The South Carolina native had lived in Glennville for the past 46 years. He was a retired Truck Driver, U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Glennville VFW Post #8379 and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma, and a son, Billy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty W. Addis of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie (Rocky) and Pat Addis of Glennville and Ricky and Janie Addis of Waterloo, SC; grandchildren, Stephanie A. MacNeil and Vicky, William, Rick, Billy, and Donovan Addis; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Waters, David Waters, Horace Waters, Joe Baldwin, Jack Waters, and Earl Boyett.

William R. (Bill) Epperson, 73
William R. (Bill) Epperson, 73, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Eisenhower Medical Center in Augusta. The Smyth County, Virginia, native had lived in Glennville for the past nine years. He was a member of Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired Master Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and a mason in the Chilhowie Lodge in Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Hart Epperson of Glennville; two daughters and son-in-law, Vickie Darlene Rouse of Chilhowie, VA, and Penny Gail and Jimmie Benfield of Conyers; son and daughter-in-law, William Donald and Teresa Epperson of Glennville; brother, Harold Porter Epperson of Marion, VA; and four grandchildren, Sunshine Montgomery of Wytheville, VA, Scotty Epperson of Glennville, Melissa Krauss of Brunswick, and Summer Eggers of Chilhowie, VA.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 9, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Bryan. Burial followed in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Skeens, Billy Purcell, Alan Purcell, Filmore Waters, Eddie Haga, Scotty Epperson, Chad Montgomery, and Jimmie Benfield.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Edna Mae Odom, 77
Edna Mae Odom, 77, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Colonial Gardens. The lifelong Tattnall County native was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and was retired from Evans Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert E. Odom, and two grandchildren, Ben and J.J. Collins. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Donna Odom of Collins and Ed and Carol Odom of Collins; two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Ben Collins of Metter and Joyce and Victor Anderson of Claxton; two half-brothers, J.C. Holt and J.W. Hutto; one sister, Emily Odom of Claxton; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2321 Tattnall Campground Road, Claxton, GA 30417.

Covin Purcell, 79
Covin Purcell, 79, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native was a farmer and attended Battle Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janie Ruth Purcell of Reidsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Collins of Hagan and Glenda and Jesse Cranford of Reidsville; sister, Ernestine Solomon of Jesup; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel. Burial followed at Battle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Powell, Dana McWilliams, Arty Rahn, Blair Jeffcoat, DeWayne Rogers, and Jon Collins.
Remembrances can be made to Battle Creek Baptist Church.

Allene Jones Ray, 85
Allene Jones Ray, 85, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, a homemaker, and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl “Coot” Ray, and daughter, Joyce Todd.
She is survived by her daughters, Annette Moody, Doylene Morgan, and Faye Martin all of Jesup and Judy Blanton of Glennville; sons, “T.L.” Luther Ray of Hardeeville, SC, Larry Ray of Jesup, and Bobby Ray of Reidsville; sister, Doris Rowell of Reidsville; brother, Lee Jones of Reidsville; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 9, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Dyal officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Driggers, O.T. Ray, Claude Dixon, Avon Ray, Wayne Rowell, Hugh Strickland and Billy Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Moody, Donnie Ray, Carlton Todd, Timmy Ray, Carey Martin, Kevin Ray, Carl Ray, Gray Ray, and Darrell Ray.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Merl Carr Strickland, 83
Annie Merl Carr Strickland, 83, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. She was a native and life long resident of Tattnall County. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Ronnie Fincher of Glennville; sister, Clarece King of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Bill Carr of Glennville and L.D. Carr of Lake City, FL; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Steve Rush, Brian Anderson, Leroy Rush, Michael Crews, Billy Rush, and Rodney Maggart.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.
