Mr. Swinderman had worked at Purity Oats, which later became General Mills, in Keokuk, IA for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and also enjoyed watching golf. He loved to fish, hunt and bowl. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking and made birdhouses and wind chimes. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and treasured the times he spent with his family. Harold E. Swinderman, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, September 25 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Keokuk, IA, one son, Larry 'Butch' Swinderman and his wife Mary of Keokuk, IA, two daughters, Lucille 'Lucy' Beaty of Keokuk, IA and Deborah 'Debbie' McVeigh and her husband Ed of Canton, MO, an honorary son, Everett Newberry of Keokuk, IA, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lois Fruehling and her husband Wayne of Ames, IA, and Evelyn Runge of Memphis, MO, one brother, Gene Swinderman and his wife Margie of Davenport, IA, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Sigmund, two brothers, Francis Swinderman and Donald Swinderman and one sister Colleen Leckbee. Funeral services were held at 11 A.M., Monday, September 30, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Visitation was held after 1 P.M. Sunday with the family meeting with friends from 7 ' 9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials were established for the Lee County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Bryant, one sister, Avice Arnold and two nieces, LaQuita Joy and Jewell Value. She was the former office secretary of the Visiting Nurse Association in Keokuk, IA. She had also been a secretary in the Lee County Clerk's Office for 11 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA and had served as a deacon of the church and chairperson of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was the past president of the In-His-Name Circle of the King's Daughters. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dorothy Bowles Stuart died Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, IA at the age of 81. She is survived by one son, Carl W. Stuart and his wife Claire of Austin, TX, one daughter, Carol Jean Katsumes and her friend Stephen Woods of Elgin, IA, four grandchildren, Andrew Stuart, Laura Stuart, Lindsey Stuart and Emily Katsumes. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth. Mr. Klapprott graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WW II. He was the owner and operator of Quality Builders, Inc. in Keokuk, IA until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge in Keokuk. He loved to play golf and watch baseball, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. Donald H. 'Choke' Klapprott died Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL at the age of 78. He is survived by one daughter Sue L. Metzinger and her husband William of Quincy, IL, one son, Keith D. Klapprott and his wife Kimberly R. of Madison, WI, two grandchildren, Kathryn S. Metzinger and William H. Metzinger and one brother, Byron Klapprott and his wife Pat of Keokuk, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on September 21, 2000 and his parents. Lorene Fish, 93, of Kahoka, MO died Monday, October 21, 2002 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. She was born November 18, 1908 in St. Francisville, MO the daughter of Peter and Zena Yates Egley. On March 7, 1930, Lorene was united in marriage to Joe Fish in Canton, MO. He died May 19, 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Meyers and her husband William of Treasure Island, FL, one son, John Fish of Treasure Island, FL, six grandchildren: Michael Meyers, Susan Meyers, Daniel Meyers, David Fish, Bill Meyers and Stephen Fish, thirteen great grandchildren: Jasmine, Eden, Faith, Avalon, Amber, Danny, Ariel, Mary Grace, Ryan, Amelia, Andrew, Liane and Tracy and a host of friends. She was also preceded in death by one brother Clyde Egley. Lorene taught school at the Sand Hill School near Wayland, MO. She and her husband Joe were also in business together for 50 years. Lorene was an original caregiver and was always helping someone in need. She also volunteered at the nursing home and loved to cook for other people. She was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Rev. Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial will be in the Kahoka City Cemetery, Kahoka, MO. Visitation will be held after 1 P.M. Wednesday with the family meeting with friends from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. He was born September 18, 1927 in Schuyler County, MO, a son of Ray Ernest and Ada Loretta Anderson Foglesong. Clyde was a graduate of the LaBelle High School. He farmed all his life in the Wyaconda area. He was always ready with a helping hand for anyone in need. He liked to travel in the United States, seeing historical places. He is survived by two sisters, Ann Page and her husband Fred of Sedalia, MO, Hazel Blum of Wayland, MO, two brothers, Harold Foglesong and his wife Marjorie of Kahoka, MO and Olin Foglesong and his wife Dorothy of Taylor, MO. one sister-in-law, Lena Mae Carroll of Kahoka, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Foglesong and Helen Taylor, one brother, Claude Foglesong and two brothers-in-law, Harold Taylor and Forrest Blum. He attended the First Christian Church of Keokuk and was a proud and excited member of the Whirlybird Youth Group Class and the Boy Scout Troop Pack #47. Victor loved to be outdoors and appreciated all the things of nature. He enjoyed riding his bike and going swimming. Victor Allen Lambert died Friday November 1, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident south of Quincy, IL at the age of 9. Rodney Bruce Brown, 80, of LaBelle, MO formerly of Kahoka, MO died Thursday, November 07, 2002 at the LaBelle Manor Care Center, LaBelle, MO. He was born October 22, 1922 in Peaksville, MO, a son of Eugene and Etta Judell Brown. He married Cora Christy on March 9, 1947. She died February 28, 1989. On October 28, 1990 he married Dorothy Dyke Pero in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Other survivors include two step-sons, Frank Pero of Cabool, MO and Calvin Pero and his wife Linda of Greenfield, NH, two step-daughters, Brenda Gerry and her husband Darrell of Glenallen, AK and Shirley Paquette and her husband Francis of Edgewater, FL, one sister, Jessie Davis of Fulton, MI, eight step-grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Elouise Wilson, Mary Martin, Maxine Burdick and Joetta Best and one brother, Delmar Brown who was killed in WWII. Rodney drove a school bus for the Revere School for many years. He was also a self-employed painter. He enjoyed crafts and playing the piano, guitar and harmonica. Rodney was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII. Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at the Peaksville Cemeteryin Peaksville, MO with Pastor Ray Gilbert officiating. Burial with military rites by the American Legion Post #192 and the VFW Post #4342 was in the Peaksville Cemetery. There was no visitation. Open registration was from 1-4 P.M. Friday and 9:00 A.M. -1:30 P.M. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO. Memorials were made to the American Cancer Society. The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO was in charge of arrangements.

She was an active member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church in Keokuk, the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, the Ladies of the Elk's Golf Club and the Keokuk Yacht Club First Mates. June was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with her three grandsons being her greatest source of joy. She was passionate about her garden and home, loved to play golf and enjoyed antiquing. She also had a tender spot in her heart for animals. June Williams died Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Keokuk Area Hospital at the age of 74. She is survived by her husband, Roger of Keokuk, IA, one son, Colin Williams and his wife Nancy of Marion, IA, one daughter, Colette Boltz and her husband Phil of Loveland, CO, three grandchildren, Chad Boltz, Matthew Boltz and Christopher Williams, two sisters, Pam Lawn and her husband Ed of Norwich, England, Sally Howes of Wymondham, England and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Monday, November 25 at the St. Johns Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA with Father Bruce Blois officiating. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA, the United Methodist Women, PEO, the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and a Book Club. She was an avid reader and loved to play golf and bridge. Memorial services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 26, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Paul Pennington officiating. A private family burial was in the Oakland Cemeteryin Keokuk, IA. Visitation was held after 1 P.M., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends from 6 ' 8 P.M. A PEO memorial service was held at 7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. A Memorial was established for the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA.

Wanda Pearl Spicer, 93, of Revere, MO, formerly of Alexandria, MO, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at the Lewis County Nursing Home, Canton, MO. She was born March 5, 1909 near Revere, MO, the daughter of William and Amanda Brown Arnold. She married Lawrence VanVelkinburgh in 1927. She later married Glen Whitaker in 1937. In 1947 she married Carl Spicer in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She graduated from Revere High School in 1926 and attended Keokuk Business College. She moved to Alexandria, MO in 1951, residing there until 1993 when she moved to Peaksville, MO. Having worked most of her life, she had been employed at several places including as a Fountain Manager & Cook at S.S. Kresge’s Company, the office of Thomas Truck and Caster Company and the F.W. Woolworth Store as a saleslady. Her last employment was with H.L. Green Company in the hat department for 31 years. Wanda retired in 1969. Wanda was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA, a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles in Keokuk and a member of the National Society to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She is survived by one son, Gary Whitaker and his wife Shirley of Revere, MO, four grandchildren, Carl Whitaker and his wife Diane, Gary Whitaker, Linda Whitaker and Sarah Church and her husband Craig, all of Revere, MO, three great grandchildren, one nephew, James D. Miller of Keokuk, IA, several great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends, including a special friend Shayla Andrews of Wayland, MO. Visitation will be held on Friday, from noon until the time of the service at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. A memorial has been established for the Sandusky United Methodist Church.

Fred Thorn was born November 3, 1925 in Unionville, MO, the son of Hugh E. and Ava A. Trent Thorn. On October 20, 1947 he married Esther Steele in Keokuk, IA. Mr. Thorn was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1945 ' 1947 and was based at Midway Island. He had been employed at Walters Roofing in Keokuk, IA for several years. He had worked as a self-employed roofer for a few years before his retirement. Fred liked to play cards and other games. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and especially enjoyed the time he spent playing with the twins. Fred Thorn died Friday, December 13, 2002 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, Esther of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Connie S. Thorn of Keokuk, IA, two sons, Keith W. Thorn of Keokuk, IA, and Randy D. Thorn and his wife Cathy of Keokuk, IA, one daughter-in-law, Nancy J. Thorn of Keokuk, IA, one sister, Elizabeth Liggett and her husband Dan of Ft. Madison, IA, seven grandchildren, Lori, Tim, Nicki, Adam, Heather, and the twins, Blake & Tarizona, and one great-granddaughter, Isabella. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Steven L. Thorn and Rick A. Thorn, one grandson, five brothers, John, Hubert, Keith, Kenneth 'Babe' and Edgar. Graveside services with military rites were held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, December 18 at the Keokuk National Cemeterywith Pastor Dan Davis officiating. Memorials were established for the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Hilma Marie Worrell, 94, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at the Clark County Nursing Home, Kahoka, MO. She was born November 5, 1908 in Clark County near Wyaconda, MO, a daughter of Royal (Roy) E. and Anna Anthony Lipper. She married John Elvin Worrell on March 10, 1932 in Luray, MO. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1986. Hilma was a lifelong resident of Clark County, moving to Kahoka in 1976. She was of the protestant faith and a past member of the local Extension Clubs. She enjoyed doing needlework and loved to travel. Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Blum and her husband Wayne of Kahoka, MO, and Carolyn Conger and her husband Lyle of Collins, MS, two granddaughters, Betsy Conger of Collins, MS and Teresa Miller and her husband Jerry Lee of Kahoka, MO, 2 great grandchildren, Tessa and Jacob Miller and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Terri Beth Holmes, one sister, Iva Watson, six brothers, Irvin, Floyd, Lester, Walter, Herbert and Dallas Lipper and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Orville and Thelma Worrell. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Reverends Kenneth Beckmann and Dick Clifford officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1-4 P.M. Thursday and after 9:00 A.M. Friday with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family requested no plants. In lieu of flowers, memorials were made to the Clark County Marching Band or the Donor’s Choice.

Corwin Sanders was born on March 13, 1926 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Everitte and Lola Hopp Sanders. On June 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Deloris Rube at the First Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA. Corwin was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WW II. He attended Keokuk Schools and graduated from Keokuk High School in Keokuk, IA. He attended Northern Baptist Seminary and later graduated from Miami Christian University. Reverend Sanders was the founding pastor of the Bethel Bible Church in Donnellson, IA and also a Bible Church in Harlingen, TX. He was well-known in the area, having served as interim pastor in many churches in southeast Iowa and Missouri. He last served as pastor in Revere, MO in 2001. He enjoyed carpentry, working in his garden and going fishing. Reverend Corwin Sanders, 76, of RR 3, Kahoka, MO, died Friday, December 20, 2002 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Kahoka, MO, two sons, Corwin Dale Sanders and his wife Cindy of Keokuk, IA and Steven Paul Sanders and his wife Shirley of St. Charles, MO, five grandchildren, Chadwick Dale Sanders and his wife Jannifer, Robert Matthew Sanders and his wife Shannon, Emma Suzanne Sanders, Stephanie Jane Parker and her husband Brian, Kimberly Jane Sanders, and one great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Dianne Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 23, 2002 at the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Craig Burton officiating. Burial with military rites was held in the Oakland Cemeteryin Keokuk. Memorials were established for the Evangelical Free Church or the New Tribes Mission.

Glenn Ray Wilsey was born January 27, 1928 in Keokuk, IA the son of Ray and Lenora Adams Wilsey. Glenn married Jewell M. Henson in 1946 in Keokuk, IA. Mr. Wilsey was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in the Mediterranean. In 1971, he moved from Keokuk, IA to Hamilton, IL. He had been employed at Dryden/Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA for 44 years, retiring in 1986 as Production Manager. He enjoyed woodworking, was an excellent cabinetmaker and restored & repaired old clocks. He loved to ride his motorcycle. Glenn Ray Wilsey died Monday, December 23, 2002 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL at the age of 74. He is survived by one son, Jim Wilsey and his wife Krista of Keokuk, IA, one granddaughter, Tara Wilsey, 1 great-grandchild, and a long time companion, Dora Lee Brammer of Hamilton, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell, in 1973 and his parents. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Friday, December 27 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Visitation was held after 1 P.M., Thursday with the family meeting with friends from 7 ' 9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born on January 30, 1918 in Chinook, Alberta, Canada, Inez was the daughter of Parley and Ida Cunningham Berry. On April 27, 1940, Inez was united in marriage to Alvin C. Young in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1968. Inez had been a resident of Keokuk for over 50 years. She had been employed at the Keokuk Area Hospital for eleven years before her retirement. She was a past member of the Moose and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, working circle word puzzle books and traveling to Florida to visit her daughter. Inez M. Young died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA at the age of 84. She is survived by one son, Clarence Alvin Young, Jr. of Danville, IL, two daughters, Carol Ann Case of Keokuk and Nancy Louise Dallas of Ft. Myers, FL, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son in infancy, Larry Roger Young, four brothers, Alvin, Julian Ray, Melvin & Marvin Berry three sisters, Hazel Davison, Elsie Grandstaff, Gladys Kite, one great-grand-son, Kevin Moore and one great-great-grandson, Gavin Moore. Memorial Services were held at 10 A.M., Thursday, January 2 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemeteryin Keokuk, IA.

Arthur C. 'Bud' McCreedy was born January 27, 1919 in Ft. Madison, IA the son of Clarence and Letha Hendricks McCreedy. On June 29, 1940, Arthur was united in marriage to Lorraine Ann Winkler in Ft. Madison, IA. Mr. McCreedy was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a pilot during WW II. He had been employed as a color technician at the Dupont Company in Ft. Madison, IA for 40 years until his retirement in 1984. He had been a resident of Keokuk, IA for the past three years. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ft. Madison, IA. He loved his church and enjoyed softball, golf and gardening. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, of Keokuk, IA, two daughters, Ardith Wells and her husband Terry of Warsaw, IL, Leslie Skinner and her husband Dan of Ankeny, IA, one son, David McCreedy and his wife Maria of Madison, WI, seven grandchildren, John McCreedy, Michael McCreedy, Dustin Skinner, Jule Dirksen, Kami Skinner, Amy Beck and Laurie Wells, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Hope Hellige of Montrose, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
