GRANDON, ZELMA MAXINE was born September 12, 1929 in Cainsville, Missouri, the daughter of Willard and Minnie (Parkhurst) Peterson. She married Jess E. Grandon in July of 1970 in Missouri. Maxine was a waitress for many years at the Regent Café in Cedar Falls and worked in the Housekeeping Dept. at Sartori Memorial Hospital, The University of Northern Iowa and Hanson Elementary School in Cedar Falls. She also worked at The National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa, where she retired in 1998. Maxine died Monday, December 24, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, at 72 years of age.
She is survived by her husband Jess, of Cedar Falls and two sisters, Willia and Loudene Zimmerman, both of Cedar Falls.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mavis Hamilton.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2001, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.

GREELEY, EVELYN C. was born January 10, 1921, near Finchford, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Luella (Cawelti) Miller. She married Duane H. Greeley on April 23, 1949 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Evelyn was an administrative assistant for many years at Arbie Mether Oldsmobile in Cedar Falls. She died Monday, August 13, 2001, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 80 years of age.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Duane, of Janesville, Iowa; her two daughters, Rosemary Carlson (Rich) of Kansas City, Missouri and Carolyn Hoelzen (Hugh) of Burlington, Iowa, and two grandchildren, Rachael Carlson and Jared Hoelzen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Marilyn and a son, Jeffrey.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2001, at Heritage United Methodist Church, Waverly, Iowa, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

GREINER, RAYMOND A., 82, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born July 2, 1917, in Ogilbie, Manitoba, Canada, the son of George and Margaret (Bohrosen) Greiner. He married Margaret Schmitz on April 12, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Ray farmed his entire life in Black Hawk County, Iowa, retiring in 1987. He was a Hudson Creamery Board Member and a member of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his children, Karen Greiner of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ron Greiner of Dike, Iowa, Tom Greiner and his wife Melinda of Cedar Falls, Jane Greiner and her husband Louis Grant of New Jersey and John Greiner and his wife Nicole of Columbus, Georgia; five grandchildren, Sarah, Kerstin and Michael Greiner, Jim Jones and Jasenn Greiner; a brother, Leonard Greiner of Iowa Falls, Iowa and two sisters, Catherine Gerhard of Charles City, Iowa and Dorothy Pitts of Toronto, Canada.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Paul, Joe and Lawrence Greiner; three sisters, Veronica Greiner, Edith Sherry and Leona Merfeld, and an infant sibling.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.

GRIPP, NINA E. was born November 7, 1905 near Janesville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Abbie (Van Dueson) Dorman. She married Harry Gripp, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1978. Nina died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center, at 94 years of age.
She is survived by a brother, Vern Dorman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and numerous nephews and nieces. Nina was preceded in death by her husband and parents, four brothers and six sisters.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Her body was cremated. A memorial fund will be established.

GULDAGER, REV. JOYCE RUTH was born January 7, 1930 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of Godfrey H. and Juanada (Groesbeck) Guldager. She graduated from UNI and Wartburg College. In 1982 she graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque. She taught school for 20 years in Fairfax County, Virginia. While there she also taught art in the women’s reformatory. While in the ministry she served churches at Aurora, Oran, Hampton and Ryan, Iowa, and also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. After retirement she served as Interim Pastor and also Pulpit Supply. Joyce died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 71 years of age.
Joyce is survived by one brother, Lyle Guldager of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two nephews, Tim and David Guldager; four nieces, Toni Akers, Tammy Bern, Lynn Guldager and Gloria Smith, and three step-nephews, Brad, Matt and Ryan Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

GUTKNECHT, DOROTHY MAE was born on October 5, 1936 at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Helene (Gutchall ) Boring. She married Luallen (Woody) Woodworth and they were later divorced. She then married Carl Gutknecht on December 6, 1971 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Dorothy died Friday, October 24, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, Iowa, at the age of 67 years.
She is survived by her husband, Carl, of Oelwein; three daughters, Janette (Edward) Brown of Oelwein, Becky (Jerry) Lathrop of Waterloo, Iowa and Robin Allen of Oelwein; one stepson, Dan (Leah) Gutknecht of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three step daughters, Carla (Frank) Jonta of Cedar Falls, Linda (P.A.) Toms of Rockford, Illinois and Lori Gutknecht of Des Moines, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Webber and Jane Ackerson, both of Waterloo and June (Harley) Harms of Upsla, Minnesota.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Claire Shouse.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church with burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Hudson, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.

GUTKNECHT, GILBERT W. 86, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Sartori Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born August 20, 1917 near Hudson, Iowa the son on Alfred Karl & Lucy (Hummel) Gutknecht. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army during WWII then he married Joan Kerns May 5, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death December 1, 2000. He was employed at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo for 38 years retiring in 1979.
Survivors include three sons, Gilbert Gutknecht, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Rochester, Minnesota, Brad Gutknecht of Urbandale, Iowa and Todd Gutknecht and his wife, Tracie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Garman of Pueblo, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Sidney Gutknecht; and three sisters, Alice Jacobsen, Kathryn Hinson, and Bette Broadwater.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Full military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.

GUTKNECHT, JOAN was born December 4, 1930 near Fairbank, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Letha (Damon) Kerns. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo in 1949 and married Gilbert Gutknecht on May 19, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Joan died Friday, December 1, 2000 at her home at the age of 69 years.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Gutknecht, Sr, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Gilbert Gutknecht, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Rochester, Brad Gutknecht of Urbandale, Iowa, and Todd Gutknecht and his wife, Tracie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren; one brother, Richard Kerns of Waterloo, Iowa, and six sisters, Patricia Perry of Evansdale, Dorothy Wilson of Waterloo, Karen Perkins of Denison, Texas, Yvonne Brown of Hazelton, Susan Linsteadt of Pottsboro, Texas, and Joyce Bowden of Raymond.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jerry and Eugene Kerns; and one sister, Colleen Hamilton.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

GUTKNECHT, LOUISE EMMA was born May 23, 1906, the daughter of August Frederick and Rebecca Sophia (Andorf) Engel near Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Ewald Henry Gutknecht June 4, 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1964. Louise and Ewald farmed for 33 years before retiring and moving into Hudson. Louise then worked for many years as a cook at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, at the age of 96 years.
Louise is survived by one son, Harry (Roberta) Gutknecht of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Debbie (Randy) Nieman of Buckingham, Iowa and Connie (Tim) Taplin of Cedar Falls; four great grandchildren, Clayton and Anna Nieman, and Allison and Alexis Taplin; and two sisters, Augusta Stender of Cedar Falls and Laura Siemans of Waterloo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and The Rev. Ernest Engel; and four sisters, Esther and Martha Engel, Alma Waltmann and Matilda Gutknecht.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson with burial in the church cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.

HABERKAMP, GENE was born December 11, 1925 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Verner & Lydia (Becker) Haberkamp. He married Helen J. Haugen August 1, 1948 in Lake Mills, Iowa. Gene served in the US Navy during WWII. He received his B.A. from Drake University and was a music teacher in Huxley, Odebolt, Iowa Falls and Cedar Falls until 1971. Gene was owner/operator of Donutland in Cedar Falls from June of 1971 until January of 1991 but then continued working for his daughter at Donutland until 2001. He died Saturday, December 28, 2002 at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Linda (Stephen) Hurley and Connie (John) Liljegren both of Cedar Falls and Lisa (Perry) Fails, of Watertown, Minnesota, eight grandchildren; two brothers, Harlan and Burke, both of Garner and one sister, Mary Jo Eisenmann of Madison, Wisconsin. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susan Myers and Nancy Jass.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church.

HAGARTY, MARY LOUISE was born October 29, 1918 in Owatonna, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis J. and Olive Margaret (Thibodeau) Shimpach. She married Maurice J. Hagarty on February 18, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1975. Mary was a member of the Shamrocks, the Rosary Society and the Altar Guild. She died Friday, September 4, 1998 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at 79 years of age.
Mary is survived by her five sons, Robert E., James E. and Thomas P. all of Cedar Falls, Daniel M. of Iowa City, Iowa and Patrick J. of Cedar Falls; her five daughters, Rosemary Millard of Independence, Iowa, Kathryn Caley, Paulette Hawkenson, Theresa J. Sullivan and Margaret R. Ackerman all of Cedar Falls; twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her cousin, Verla Lewis of Parkersburg, Iowa and her sister-in-law, Virginia Shimpach of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, a brother, Louis J. Shimpach, Jr., and two sisters, Rosemary and Jeanette Shimpach.
Services were held September 8, 1998 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials were to the church or St. Patrick's school.

HAGBERG, MARY TERESA was born June 18, 1943 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of John A. and Myrtle M. (McMullen) Roark. She married Shelby J. Hagberg on June 16, 1962 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. Mary was a 1961 graduate of Columbus High School in Waterloo, Iowa, was a secretary at the Biology greenhouse at the University of Northern Iowa and was secretary of the local Hallmark Collectors Club. She died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at 55 years of age.
Mary is survived by her husband Shelby, her daughter Melissa M. Kirkpatrick and her son Scott E. Hagberg, all of Cedar Falls; her four grandchildren, Mitchell R. Kirkpatrick, Lauryn G. Lehman, Alexandria R. Conlin (Hagberg) and Brooklyn K. Kirkpatrick; and two sisters, Margaret Butler of Cedar Falls and Helen Modlin of Grundy Center, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Kathryn Minikus and two brothers, Kenneth O’Rourke and John Roark.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 1999 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund has been established.

HAHN, BETTY J. was born January 28, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Laade) Larson. She married Leonard C. Hahn on August 31, 1946 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1999. Betty volunteered with the Cedar Falls Welcome Wagon and the Cedar Falls Public Library. She was past president of the Welcome Wagon Bowling League. Betty died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at 79 years of age.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judi (Peter) Spizzirri of Cary, Illinois and Linda (Jim) Walsh of Cedar Falls, Iowa and five granddaughters, Jennifer, Sara, Alison, Annie and Rebecca.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and a brother, Bud Larson.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Friends of the Cedar Falls Library.
