HAHN, LEONARD CANVIN was born May 15, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Andrew and Hazel (Canvin) Hahn. He married Betty J. Larson on August 31, 1946 in Chicago. Leonard served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of operations during W.W. II, receiving the Purple Heart for military merit. He was a compositor in the printing industry for many years, and enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his spare time. Leonard was a member of the Cedar Valley Garden Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chicago. He died Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 79 years of age.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Betty Hahn of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his two daughters, Judi Spizzirri and her husband Peter, of Cary, Illinois, and Linda Walsh and her husband Jim, of Cedar Falls; five granddaughters, Jennifer, Sara, Alison, Annie and Rebecca; and his sister, Grace Meyer of St. Maries, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 12, 1999, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Allen Memorial Hospital.

HAHN, MILTON M. was born April 15, 1917 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Herman J. and Myrtle (Jennings) Hahn. He married Helen Vognsen on April 10, 1947 at Washington Chapel in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Milton served with the U.S. Army, in New Guinea for three years, during W.W. II. He worked in the data processing department at Rath Packing Company for twenty years, and was the Director of Data Processing at Shoitz Hospital for many years, retiring in 1984. Milton died Wednesday, August 11, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 82 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Robbin Hahn Halverson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his two sons, Jay of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jan of Waterloo, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth of Concord, Alabama, John of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Charles of Orland, California; and his step-mother, Verna L. Holder of Waterloo.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Weldon and Robert Hahn.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 1999, at Trinity Wesleyan Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or the family.

HAHN, RUSSELL W. was born May 15, 1918, at Allison, Iowa, the son of George and Anna (Reisewitz) Hahn. He married Harriet Smidt June 9, 1944 at Allison, Iowa. Russell served with the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a self employed carpenter and was a carpenter at the Western Home Communities for over twenty years. He was a member of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge # 65, a charter member of the Cedar Falls Y’S Men’s Club, the Cedar Falls American Legion, Post 237 and First United Church in Cedar Falls. Russell died Sunday. June 2, 2002 at the Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 84 years.
Russell is survived by his wife, Harriet of Cedar Falls; three sons, Terry, Doug and Gregory; one daughter, Jean Firman all of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Suiter, Sarah Hahn, Hayley Hahn, Andrea Hahn, Amanda Firman, Barry Firman, Megan Hahn and Alexia Hahn.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Lee, Ray, John and Nicholas; three sisters, Mary Frey, Clara Brocka and Rachael Hall and two infant sisters.
Funeral services were 10:30 Thursday, June 6, 2002, at First Christian Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

HALVERSON, CHARLES R. "DICK" , 80, of Cedar Falls died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Dick was born the son of Harry and Edna (Dokken) Halverson, on May 16, 1923, at Egan, South Dakota. He married Priscilla Hill November 25, 1950 at New Castle, Indiana. Before his retirement he worked for John Deere & Co. as an experimental Engineer. Dick died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at the age of 80 years.
Dick is survived by two sons, John M. (Camille) Halverson of Orlando, Florida and Tom Halverson of Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Barbara Halverson of Delta, Colorado, Nancy Killian of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Melissa (Steve) Boulanger of Sandy, Utah; two grandchildren, Timothy and John Boulanger; One brother, Dr. Donald (Jane) Halverson of San Bernadino California and one sister Marjorie (Wayne) McNeil of Rapid City, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Priscilla.
Memorial services were 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2004, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Private inurnment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Dick and Priscilla Halverson Memorial Fund.

HANSEN, ARTHUR K. was born January 25, 1924 in Dike, Iowa, the son of Irenius and Helga (Weltz) Hansen. He married Verity “Dew” Randolph on January 16, 1948 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Arthur served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a football player for the Waterloo Wildcats semi-pro team. Arthur was also a butcher for many years at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring in 1982. He served as a Boy Scout leader for 25 years and was a charter member of the Cedar Falls High School Boosters Club. Arthur died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, at 78 years of age.
He is survived by his wife of Cedar Falls; two sons, Eugene (Sue) “Bud” Hansen of Cedar Falls and Michael (Gail) Hansen of Lake Mills, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jennifer Derby, Lia Hansen Cohen, Andrew Hansen, Blake Hansen and Todd Hansen; a grandson, Brett Hansen and a brother, Earl (Freda) Hansen of Cedar Falls.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Betsy Hansen; five brothers, Vic and Einer Lindholm, and Sonny, Stub and Paul Hansen, and two sisters, Sis Backerman and Irene Hansen.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls with inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice or the Cedar Falls High School Boosters Club.

Hansen, Daniel Wayne was born May 3, 1950 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Harold H. and Ardyce N. (Jensen) Hansen. He married Michelle D. Woodall March 31, 1998 in Waterloo, Iowa. Dan was a truck driver for Transport America.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Matthew Mayfield and Mark Mayfield, Jr., both of Cedar Falls; his mother Ardyce Hansen of Cedar Falls; one brother, David H. Hansen of Andover, Minnesota; and two sisters, Dorothy Ramsay of Cedar Falls and Cindy Soy of Faribault, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister, Debra Hansen.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with cremation following. A memorial fund will be established.

HANSEN, JOHN V. age 90, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born July 11, 1913 at Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Nels & Viola (Soules) Hansen. He married Evelyn Lorenz May 3, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. John farmed all of his life and served on the Board of Directors of many organizations including the Aplington Sale Barn, the New Hartford School District, the Cedar Falls Co-op, and Butler-Grundy Farm service.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Leonard (Darlys) Hansen and Thomas Hansen, both of New Hartford, Robert (Janet) Hansen of Milo, Iowa; one daughter, Mary (Dr. Jan) Schweitzer of Lansing, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Darin, Matthew, Ryan & John Hansen, Andrew Hansen; Dr. Michael (Kristie) Schweitzer, Heidi (Kelly) Hudson, Beth (Joel) Mosher, Suzanne (Greg) Ringelstetter, and Stephanie (Shawn) Montgomery; and two sisters, Mary Miller of Cedar Falls and Ann Corwin of Waverly. John was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family.

HANSEN, PAUL NIELS was born March 28, 1939 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Irenius and Helga (Weltz) Hansen. He was a 1957 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and in 1958 joined the Bricklayers Union Local 28 in Waterloo, Iowa as an apprentice. Paul worked out of Union Local 28 until October of 1975 when he was employeed at the University of Northern Iowa. He joined the AFSCME Union Local 2659 in 1976, serving as a union steward. Paul was the AFSCME Local 2659 President from 1980 until his retirement in October of 1999. During that time he served as District Vice President of AFSCME Council 61 for 6 years and served as Regents Chair for 6 years. Paul was instrumental in negotiating statewide union contracts from 1983-2001. He died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at his home in Dike, Iowa, at 63 years of age.
Paul is survived by his five children, Scott Hansen of Cedar Falls, Lori Barnes of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jan Hansen of Reinbeck, Iowa, Doug Hansen of San Diego, California and Derek Hansen of Dike; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two brothers, Earl and Arthur K. Hansen, both of Cedar Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Vic and Einer Lindholm, Vernon “Sonny” Hansen and Roger “Stub” Hansen, two sisters, Irene Hansen and Verna “Sis” Backerman, and two nephews and a niece.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Fredsville Lutheran Church with inurnment in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation, his body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the Paul Hansen Scholarship Fund, c/o UNI-AFSCME Local 2659 or Cedar Valley Hospice.

HANSEN, PAUL O., was born January 20, 1906 on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, the son of Frederick Peter and Andrea (Lund) Hansen. He immigrated to the United States in 1923 at the age of 17 and soon settled in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Paul met Frances Stewart through a friend, and after a brief courtship they were married on September 10, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 13, 1994. Paul worked for the Cedar Falls Utilities for nearly 46 years, retiring as Manager of Gas Distribution and Service in 1973. He died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 94 years of age.
Paul is survived by his two sons, Roland of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Vernon of Cedar Falls; his two daughters, Connie Hansen of Cedar Falls and Kay Zimmerman of The Colony, Texas; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; six brothers, one being Johannes Hansen, and five sisters.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

HANSEN, VERNON R. "SONNY" was born on February 18, 1927 in Dike, Iowa, the son of Irenius and Helga (Weltz) Hansen. He was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and served in the U. S. Navy during W.W. II. Sonny married Donna Schneck on January 9, 1953 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a member of the Waterloo Wildcats Semi Professional Football Team for five years; a machinist at John Deere & Co. in Waterloo for seven years; worked at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo for thirty-two years and was a lifetime member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Sonny died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at 72 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Hansen of Waterloo; his twin sister, Sis Backerman of Cedar Falls, Iowa and his five brothers, Einer Lindholm of Arkansas, Earl and Arthur Hansen, both of Cedar Falls, Paul Hansen of Dike and Roger "Stub" Hansen of Arkansas.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Hansen and a brother, Victor Lindholm.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial at Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the church, Exceptional Persons, Inc. and the Cedar Bend Humane Society.

HANSON, DR. DONALD LEE was born May 20, 1928 in Callender, Iowa, the son of George P. and Marietta Hanson. He married Barbara Higdon on June 6, 1954 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1973. Don served with the U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He served in many capacities with several high schools and universities in Iowa and Missouri, and was the former Department Head of the School Administration Department at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1986. Don was a member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. He died Sunday, January 13, 2002, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 73 years of age.
Don is survived by his children, Mia Hanson of Tampa, Florida and John Hanson (Sherry) of Bettendorf, Iowa; two granddaughters, Sara and Julia Hanson, both of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Ellis “Bud” Hanson of Burnsville, Minnesota; a sister, LaVon Wing of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Weber of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Eleanor of Pocahontas, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; his step-mother, Naomi Hanson and two brothers, John and Ken Hanson.
Graveside Committal Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls, where military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, 20th & Irving St., Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.

HARNED, RICHARD , 52, and SUZANNE HARNED, 48, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Richard was born December 12, 1950 in Cedar Falls, the son of Lynn B. and Marjorie E. (Olsen) Harned. Suzanne was born March 9, 1955 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Donald W. and Lenora (DeNeui) Decker. They were married April 20, 1989 in Cedar Falls. Richard was a patrolman for the Waterloo Police Department for 30 years. Suzanne worked for many years as a dispatcher for the city of Waterloo. More recently, she worked for Home Health Care.
Richard is survived by his parents, Lynn and Marjorie Harned of Cedar Falls; Suzanne is survived by her parents, Donald and Lenora Decker of Cedar Falls; they are both survived by their daughter, Hailey of Cedar Falls; Suzanne’s two children from a previous marriage, Danelle and Ryan; Richard’s sister, Claudia (Alex) Hovden of Cedar Falls; and Suzanne’s brothers, Steven M. (Becky) Decker of New Hartford, Iowa and Jeffrey Joh Decker of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Suzanne was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Decker.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2003, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. The family requests memorial donations to the Waterloo Police Protection Association, Hartman Reserve, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

HARPER, LETHA J. (BONORDEN), was born April 27, 1908 at Jesup, Iowa the daughter of Steven C and Cynthia (McGonigle) Fuller. She married Erwin Bonorden and they were later divorced. Letha married Roy Harper August 13, 1937 at Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1983. She and Roy owned and operated the Harper Body shop for many years. Letha worked as his bookkeeper. She died Sunday, October 1, 2000, at the Western Home-Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 92 years.
Letha is survived by one daughter, Grace McKinney and her husband Ray of Janesville, Iowa and one son Robert G. (Bob) Bonorden and his wife Irene of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Rusty and Barbara K.; one great-grandson, Tanner; and one brother John Fuller of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Glen Fuller and one sister, Neva Gutknecht.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2000, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
