REMMERT, VERYLE L. was born May 9, 1911 in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lillian (Jones) Switzer. She married Arthur Remmert on June 5, 1932 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death in January of 1958. Veryle was a graduate of Hansell High School in Franklin County and was the manager of the catalog division at Montgomery Ward in Mason City, Iowa for 25 years. She died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 91 years of age.
Veryle is survived by her four children, Cleo Doty of Los Angeles, California, Elise Wallace of Paragould, Arkansas, Dennis Remmert of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Douglas Remmert of High Springs, Florida; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Switzer of Liscomb, Iowa and a sister, Faye Voorhies of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, Clinton and Leonard Switzer; a sister, Mildred Bradley, and her special friend, Lyle Oler.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, with burial at 2:00 p.m. at Old Chapin Cemetery, near Chapin, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

RETHMEIER, RUSSELL O. was born March 25, 1925 in Hawkeye, Iowa, the son of August H. and Lillie Mae (Restroff) Rethmeier. He married Karli Petras on January 22, 1949 at Littleport, Iowa. Russell served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations during WW II. He farmed in Littleport for many years before moving to Cedar Falls, where he worked for Rath Packing Company for 23 years and Vernon Fee Concrete Company for 40 years, retiring in 2000. Russell died Monday, June 10, 2002 in Littleport, at 77 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Karli, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Judy Bartholomew (Jim) of Cedar Falls; his two sons, Roger Rethmeier (Debby) of Springfield, Missouri and Bill Rethmeier (OkHui) of Vine Grove, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Heather, Marsia, Munsoo, Michelle, Jennifer, David, Debby, Lisa and Laura; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Jade and Dylan; a sister, Caroline Robertson (Fred) of Petersfield, Manitoba, Canada; a brother, Duane Rethmeier (Darlene) of Manchester, Iowa and a special nephew, Lucian Petras (Carrington) and their daughter Sarah Elizabeth, all of Stauton, Virginia.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Viola DeGraw and Arlene Hutchinson, and two brothers, Freddy and August Rethmeier.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Cass Township Cemetery in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, Iowa.

RICHARDSON, GENE BRASWELL was born August 1, 1916, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Eugene P. and Alice (Thomson) Braswell. She married John A. Richardson on March 23, 1940 in Shreveport. Gene was a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and was a member of Tri Delta. She died Friday, November 2, 2001, at the Western Home Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 85 years of age.
Gene is survived by her daughter, Pamela Hays and her husband Allen of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Mark and Michael Hays; two step-grandchildren, Carlos Perez and Bridgitta Derrick, and a step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and a son, Stephen Richardson.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, with inurnment in Shreveport, Louisiana at a later date. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, the YWCA of Black Hawk County and the Greater Black Hawk Habitat for Humanity.

RIDENOUR, RUTH BOARDMAN, 85, of Cedar Falls died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes. She was born April 10, 1918 at Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Benjamin & Faith I. (Stuntz) Boardman. Ruth married William Edwin Ridenour and they were later divorced. She received a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI) and a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota.
Survivors include her two sons, Stephen (Kimie) Ridenour of Cedar Falls and Lynn (Cheryl) Ridenour of Marshalltown, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Thomas H. Boardman.
Graveside services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2003 at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls.

RINK, EDWARD LEE, was born December 4, 1954 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Virgil and Jane (Tillman) Rink. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1973 and then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo, Iowa. He was employed by Hawkeye Tool & Die in Jesup. Edward married Patty Casky March 1, 1980 in Cedar Falls. He died Sunday, April 25, 1999 of cancer at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 44 years.
Survivors include his wife, Patty of Jesup, Iowa, his daughter, Shawna Rink and his son, Chad Rick, both of Jesup, his parents, Virgil and Jane Rink of Cedar Falls, two brothers, Steven Rink of Aurora, Colorado and Tony Rink and his wife, Sue of Cedar Falls, and one sister, Joni Sadler and her husband George, also of Cedar Falls.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A Memorial Fund will be established for conservation efforts.

RITER, HELEN F. was born October 14, 1918, in New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of William S. and Emma C. (Johnson) Challstrom. She married Morris Verne Riter on January 20, 1938 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1996. Helen died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 84 years of age.
She is survived by a son, Dennis V. Riter and his wife Gay, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three daughters, Leanne Monroe and her special friend, Robert Crompton, of International Falls, Minnesota, Sharyn Barnard and Jeanine Bley, both of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, Elmer and Everett Challstrom, and four sisters, Florence Foreman, Mildred McLean, Dorothy Beenken and Ethel Andersen.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. A memorial fund will be established.

ROCCA, FREDERICK was born January 17, 1924 in Milford, New Hampshire the son of Philip and Elizabeth (Steib) Rocca. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Frederick married Eunice Knudsen at Fredsville Lutheran Church on December 28, 1949. He owned and operated Cities Service Station on Main St. for many years and was then employed for 19 years at Smitty’s Tire & Appliance. Frederick died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four sons, Glen of Cedar Falls, Brian and his wife, Sandi, of Hinsdale, Illinois, Barry and his wife, Helen, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Eldon and his wife, Bridgid, of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Celia Parker and her husband, Arthur, of Waterloo, Iowa, six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren; two brothers, Theodore of Lyndeboro, New Hampshire and Carlo of Point Reyes, California; and two sisters, Mary Ann Lawrence of Ashland, Massachusetts and Barbara Kachadoorian of Windsor, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2001 at Community of Christ Church (formerly known as Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) 4616 Cedar Heights Dr. Cedar Falls with private inurnment in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home or the Community of Christ Church

ROEDEL, SHEILA KAY 43, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She was born December 4, 1957 in Waterloo, the daughter of Milo and Eva Kathy (Woods) Weltruski. Sheila married Joseph R. Roedel on February 12, 1977 in Cedar Falls. She was a 1976 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo. Sheila worked at S. S. Kresge Department Store in Waterloo and at the Cedar Falls Western Home.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Roedel of Cedar Falls; her son, Caleb Roedel and his fiance Stephanie Abele of Cedar Falls; an expected grandson, Cole Robert Roedel; her brother, Douglas Weltruski and her two sisters, Chj Morris and Chris Miller, all of Cedar Falls.
Sheila was preceded in death by her mother.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Hillside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rokes, Alva was born March 9, 1926 in Marshall County Iowa the son of John and Edna (Taylor) Rokes. He married Dorothy A. Zirat June 4, 1952 in Tama, Iowa. Mr. Rokes was a Contractor, building 23 shopping centers, hospitals, schools, etc. He served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 73 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Cedar Falls, his son, Tracy and his wife, Delonna, of Cedar Falls and their three daughters, Alexis, Natalie, and Miranda; and two brothers, Harold of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Roger of Marshalltown, Iowa.
Alva was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Phillip in infancy, Ralph, and John; and three sisters, Maxine Schuler Brown, Florance Cooper, and Grace Jordebrek.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the UNI Football program.

ROSE, MARILYN JEAN (SCHMITT) was born December 22, 1944 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, IA the daughter of George & Matilda (Meester) Schmitt. She married Eric Rose February 16, 1968 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in Fern, IA. Marilyn graduated from Allen School of Nursing where she became an RN and later received her B.S. in Nursing from Coe College. She was employed for a short time as an RN in Iowa City and then in the Intensive Care Unit at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She was currently a nursing instructor at Hawkeye Community College where she has taught for over 20 years. Marilyn died Sunday, February, 2, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 58 years.
Survivors include her husband, Eric of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jason (Michelle) Rose of Davenport, Iowa and Chad (Breona) Rose of Oak Creek, CO; one daughter, Angela (Kurt Schreiber) Rose of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Caleb, Iszac, and Cailee; her step-mother, Dorothy Schmitt of Grundy Center; two brothers, Delwyn (Brenda) Schmitt of St. Peters, MO and Delon (Lori) Schmitt of Dike, IA; and two sisters, Doris (Richard) Burger of Cedar Falls and Malinda Schmitt of Clinton, IA. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Duane and Allen Schmitt.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Orchard Hill Church, 1215 Elmridge Dr., Cedar Falls with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.

ROSENBERG, REV. H. F. WILLIAM was born March 11, 1917 near Oregon, Illinois, the son of Reinder Johnson and Jenny (Oltmanns) Rosenberg. He married Greta Grace DeKoster on August 8, 1940 at Hull, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 27, 1989. William graduated from Oregon High School (Illinois) and Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1939. He was a graduate of Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. William served as minister with the Reformed Church for over 50 years in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Waupun, Wisconsin, Prairie City, Iowa and Everly, Iowa. After retirement he served as minister with St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley, Iowa. William died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at 82 years of age.
He is survived by his two daughters, Joan Lindaman of Humboldt, Iowa and Terry Poe- Buschkamp of Waterloo, Iowa; his son, Jon of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his two brothers, Herman Reinder Rosenberg of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Ronald John Rosenberg of Holland, Michigan; his three sisters, Jane Dirksen of Chana, Illinois, Betty Basler of Oregon, Illinois and Helen Young of Conover, North Carolina and his daughter-in-law, Beverly VerSteeg.
William was preceded in death by his wife and parents; his son, Randal Wayne Rosenberg and his brother, John Daniel Rosenberg.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999 at Orchard Hill Reformed Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund has been established.

RUFFCORN, DONALD, was born August 25, 1920 in Independence, Iowa the son of Ray W. and Bessie M. (Billick) Ruffcorn. He married Alyce J. Skaarup on August 15, 1944. Donald served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was employed as a toolmaker with John Deere & Co. for 26 years. He was a member of the American Legion and was a charter member of the AMVETS. He died on Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 78 years.
Donald is survived by his wife Alyce of DeSoto, Wisconsin and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Claude Ruffcorn.
Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 7, 1998 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with inurnment in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to DeSoto Lutheran Church, DeSoto, Wisconsin 54624.

RUMSEY, JULIE ANN was born September 17, 1974, at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Dean E. and Janice A. (Pettit) Cross. Julie married Dwayne Rumsey on November 1, 1996, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a 1993 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended Hawkeye Community College and UNI. Julie was employed at VGM & Associates in Waterloo. She died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 29 years.
Julie is survived by her husband, Dwayne Rumsey, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Bryce and Benjamin Rumsey, both at home; her mother, Janice A. Cross, of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Charles Cross, Kevin (Kim) Cross, and Dean Jr. (Janmarie) Cross, all of Cedar Falls, and her paternal grandparents, Wendall & Cleo Cross, of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her father and her maternal grandparents, Carl & Ethel Pettit.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2004, at First Church of the Open Bible with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls was in charge of arrangements.. Memorials may be directed to the family.

RYAN, JAMES E. was born September 2, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Frank J. and Marie (McBride) Ryan. He married Ruth B. Court on September 3, 1939, at the Little Brown Church, near Nashua, Iowa. James was a graduate of Clarion High School and attended ISTC (UNI). He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during WW II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. James was the Safety Coordinator for many years at Carnation Dairy and later Swiss Valley Farms Dairy in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a member and Past Commander of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and was Past President of the Cedar Falls Lions Club, where he was named Lion of the Year in 1971. James spent many hours volunteering his time with the Sartori Auxiliary, the Cedar Falls Senior Activity Center, the Cedar Falls Historical Society and the Western Home Communities. He died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 83 years of age.
James is survived by his wife Ruth, of Cedar Falls; his three children, Thomas D. Ryan (Joyce) of Whitewater, Wisconsin, Steven J. Ryan (Melanie) of Delavan, Wisconsin and Jane E. Ryan-Sandford (Clark) of Seattle, Washington, and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at the funeral home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Military committal rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, the Cedar Falls Lions Club Sight Saving Program and the Western Home Communities.
