Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

WHEELER, CHARLES was born February 7, 1924 in Pittsburg, Kansas the son of Charles & Dolly (Rupe) Wheeler. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Charles was a Professor in the English Department at the University of Northern Iowa retiring in 1978 and was also an author. He died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at the age of 78 years.
Survivors include his son, Ben Wheeler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five daughters, Lisa, Lorna, and Amy, all of Denver, Colorado, Emily of Independence, Iowa and Katy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Hannah, Lindsey, Tori, Dakota, and Jordy.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Memorials may be given for Alzheimer's Research.

WHEELER, GRANT PATRICK was born April 28, 1967 in Horicon, Wisconsin the son of Ron and Judith (Freshwater) Wheeler. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1985. Grant married Chistine Angell on October 24, 1992 in New Hampton, Iowa. He was employed as purchasing agent with Wheeler Auto Body in Waterloo. Grant died Friday, September 27, 2002 in Cedar Falls at the age of 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Christine, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Luke and McAllister, both at home; His father and stepmother, Ron & Jan Wheeler, of Cedar Falls; his mother and stepfather, Judith Freshwater and Kim Buenneke, of Cedar Falls; one brother, Todd Wheeler (Lauren Bramble) of Des Moines; and three sisters, Elizabeth Wheeler (Lisa Bergin) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Rebecca Wheeler (Robert Vajagich) of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mandy (Jamie) Veraecke of Denver, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wayne & Ruth Wheeler and his maternal grandparents, Glen & Belle Freshwater.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Orchard Hill Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the Grant Wheeler Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.

WHEELER, MARCELLA M. & CHARLES E.
Marcella was born September 11, 1920 in Littleton, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Irene A. (Hess) Toussaint. She graduated from Sumner High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa and Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa. Marcella worked for 18 years at the James Black Dry Goods Company in Waterloo, retiring as the Assistant Credit Manager in 1975.
Charles was born May 1, 1922 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Charles E. and Laura M. (Tuegel) Wheeler. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. Charles was a night foreman at Pacific Gamble Robinson Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1984. Marcella and Charles were united in marriage on September 23, 1946 in Sumner, Iowa. Marcella was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus. They both were members of the Cedar Falls CB Emergency Club. Marcella died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 82 years of age. Charles died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, at 80 years of age.
They are survived by their children, Yvonne (Al) Duggan of Cedar Falls and Ed (Valena) Wheeler of Shawnee, Kansas; five grandchildren, Ryan Westphal, Todd Westphal, Laurinda Holen, Scott Westphal and Lynn Wheeler; Marcella’s sisters, Veryl Schares of New Hampton, Iowa and Ramona (Don) Menuey of Fairbank, Iowa; Charles’ brother, George (Norma Guether) Wheeler of Apache Junction, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Toussaint of Sumner. Marcella and Charles were preceded in death by their parents; a daughter, Jana Westphal; a grandson, Christopher Wheeler; Marcella’s brother, Vern Toussaint and Charles’ sister, Margaret Hertz.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.

WHELCHEL, THEORA MAE “TEDI” was born March 23, 1937 in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Vera (Scovel) Schimberg. She married Stanley Whelchel on June 25, 1958 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Theora was a 1955 graduate of Rock Valley High School, a 1959 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and received her masters degree in Textiles and Clothing from Colorado State University in 1968. She taught Home Economics for 39 years at Hudson High School, retiring in 1998. Theora was a member of the American Home Economics Association, Iowa State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Hudson Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma and was a 1998 Gold Star Teacher. She died Friday, December 15, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 63 years of age.
Theora is survived by her husband Stanley, of Cedar Falls; her mother, Vera Schimberg of Kingsley, Iowa; a sister, Suzanne Timmer and her husband William of Hartland, Wisconsin; two nephews, Kyle Timmer and Rev. Bob Fisher, and three nieces, Rev. Kelli Fisher, Kristin Timmer and Sanic Timmer.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services were 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in inurnment at a later date in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Theora Whelchel Scholarship Fund at the Hudson High School in Hudson, Iowa.

WHITNEY, GLENN H. was born September 9, 1920, the son of Roscoe and Dora (Garner) Whitney. He was raised and farmed with his family near Finchford, Iowa in Bremer County. Glenn died Monday, September 28, 1998, at Country View Care Center in Waterloo, Iowa at 78 years of age.
He is survived by many family members, including his sister, Leone Bowen of Janesville, Iowa. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irma Sands.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1998 at Country View Care Center, with burial at Finchford Cemetery in Finchford, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Care Center and Cedar Valley Hospice.

WILKIN, LOIS MAE, was born July 13, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Berry) Wilkin. She graduated in 1960 from St. John’s School of Nursing, Springfield, Missouri. Lois worked for Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for 27 years, retiring in 1999. Lois died Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 61.
She is survived one sister, Ruby Ann Wagner of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three nieces, Lois Rathe, Cheryl Moore and Ilene Miller and one nephew, Earl Canfield; six great nieces and six great nephews. Lois was precede in death by her parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. A memorial fund will be established.

WILLADSEN, BERDINA MARY was born December 21, 1919, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Frank J. and Alvina (Fellbaum) Mixdorf. She married Iliff James Willadsen on July 6, 1941 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1988. Berdina was a past volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She died Thursday, October 7, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at 79 years of age.
Berdina is survived by her children, Jan W. Heaton of Memphis, Tennessee, Lynn James Willadsen of Omaha and Ward William Willadsen of Mission, Texas; four grandchildren, Kirsten Marie Willadsen of Huntington Beach, California, Diana Mary Heaton and Gregory Raymond Heaton, both at home in Memphis, and Brandon I. Willadsen, at home in Mission, Texas; three brothers, Albert and Richard Mixdorf, both of Waterloo, and Hilbert Mixdorf of Dunkerton, Iowa; and two sisters, Eldora Negley of Azusa, California and Lucille McAtee of Royal Oak, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; four brothers, Alvin, Norman, Eugene and Luverne Mixdorf; and a sister, Bernice Hamilton.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 11, 1999, at the funeral home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, Midamerican Region, c/o the United Way of the Midlands, 1805 Harney St., Omaha, Nebraska 68102.

WILLIAMS, JAMES RICHARD was born June 21, 1940, at Oran, Iowa, the son of Rufus and Ella (Taylor) Williams. He married Marjorie Chase, on October 23, 1982, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. James served with the U.S. Army and was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. He was a paramedic, operating Metro Ambulance Service, later called Advanced Life Support. Jim was also an apartment manager for Janmann Investments in Cedar Falls. He died on Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa at 59 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Rhonda and her husband, Michael Morgan of Finchford, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matthew, Renee and Richard; two brothers, Jerry Williams of Oelwein, Iowa and John Williams of Hawkeye, Iowa and two sisters, Ethel Adams of Oran, Iowa and Ruby Medlin of Waterloo, Iowa. James was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Paulene Hertges and six brothers, Ernest, Harry, Russell, Cecil, Lester and Lawrence Williams.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 6, 1999, at First Assembly of God Church, with burial at Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.

WILLIAMS, LARRY CHARLES was born February 17, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Charles and Marie (Bixby) Williams. He was a 1958 graduate of Shell Rock High School and graduated from Gates Business College. Larry was the former manager of Baker Shoe Store in Waterloo, Iowa and had been the manager of Guy Iverson AMVETS Post 49 in Cedar Falls, Iowa for many years. He was a member of Sons of AMVETS and enjoyed gardening, his grandchildren and being at the AMVETS Post. Larry died Friday, September 13, 2002, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 62 years of age.
He is survived by his life companion, Kay McSweeney of Cedar Falls; a daughter, LaDawn Hankins and her husband Ivan of Waterloo; a son, Troy Williams and his wife Debra of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Amanda and Danielle French and C. J. Williams, and two brothers, Dean Williams and his wife Becky of Cedar Falls and Dale Williams and his wife Betty of Janesville, Iowa. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

WILLIAMS, LOWELL R. was born on November 16, 1931 in Dumont, Iowa the son of Harry and Opal (Manifold) Williams. He married Marcia J. Thuesen on July 21, 1972 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lowell served with the U.S. Navy and was a Cedar Falls Police Officer from December 1, 1959 until May 26, 1977. In June of 1977 he was employed as a security guard by John Deere & Co. in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring July 31, 1991. Lowell died Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at his home in Hudson, Iowa at 67 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Hudson; two sons, Terry Williams of Cedar Falls and Tom Williams of Cresco, Iowa; one daughter, Kelly Reeves of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Lay, Alexis Reeves, Caitlyn Williams, Kristine Miller and Lauren Williams; one brother, Ronald Williams of Cedar Falls. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, 1999 at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, Iowa, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. A memorial fund will be established.

WILLSEY, DORA F. was born March 26, 1902 in Reinbeck, Iowa, the daughter of David and Cora (McDowell) Lynn. She married James Willsey on September 8, 1920 in Parkersburg, Iowa. Dora attended Reinbeck High School and Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa. She worked for an advertising agency and a Parkersburg attorney. Dora was a member of numerous organizations at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She died Monday, August 16, 1999, at the Cedar Falls Western Home, at 97 years of age.
Dora is survived by her two daughters, Marcia Alcorn and her husband Lavern, and Iris Woodard and her husband George, both of West Union, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kim R. Colberg, Kent J. Colberg, Nancy Marker, Jane Aves and Richard O. Woodard; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, David, Bill and Harold Lynn; and six sisters, Jenny Engle, Cora Damm, Alta Krumlinde, Ruth Van Tassel, Myrtle Newsome and Hazel Miller.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 1999, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike, Iowa following the service. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Wesleyan Church in Cedar Falls.

WILSON, FREDA was born December 20, 1914 in Parkersburg, Iowa the daughter of Louis Grover and Hannah (Pjebkes) Trueg. She married Wayne H. Wilson July 26, 1940 in Waverly, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2002. Freda was co-owner of the Regent Café in Cedar Falls and was also a nurses aid having retired from Country View Care Center. She died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 87 years.
Survivors include one son, James L. Wilson of San Diego, CA; one stepdaughter, Sandra Kay Wilson of Cedar Falls; fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, one great great grandson; and one brother, Henry Trueg of Cedar Falls. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Connie Leah Camarata; one brother, Eddie Trueg; and three sisters, Annie Andressen, Louise Hundley, and Lucille Trueg.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2002 at Cedar Heights Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.

WILSON, WAYNE H. was born April 22, 1919 in Thayer, Missouri the son of Clarence and Carrie (Caldwell) Wilson. He married Freda Trueg on July 26, 1940 in Waverly, Iowa. Wayne was the former owner of the Regent Café in Cedar Falls. He retired as Food Service Manager for Bishop’s Cafeterias. Wayne died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include his wife, Freda of Cedar Falls, one son, James L. Wilson of San Diego, California, one daughter, Sandra K. Wilson of Cedar Falls, 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one sister, Vivian Campbell of San Francisco, California. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Connie Leah Camarata, and one sister, Peggy Ann Hurd.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002 at Cedar Heights Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church.

WINCHELL, MARGUERITE IRENE, 88, of Ravenwood Health Care Center and formerly of 1536 Forest Avenue, Waterloo, died Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the care center of natural causes. She was born April 30, 1913 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Bert and Lillian (Thompson) Winchell. She was a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital for 40 years retiring in 1981. She has no living survivors. A private inurnment will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa, where her parents are also buried. There will be no visitation or other services. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.

WINTERS, ANGELINE B. was born April 3, 1919 at St. Lucas, Iowa, the daughter of Matthias and Philomena (Bodenstiner) Blong. She married Andrew Paul Winters on August 3, 1937 at St. Lucas. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1993. Angeline died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 80 years of age.
She is survived by her seven sons, Robert Winters of Waterloo, Iowa, Richard Winters of Cedar Falls, Charles Winters of Watkins, Colorado, James Winters of Jesup, Iowa, Andrew L. Winters, Jr. of Cedar Falls, William Winters of Littleton, Iowa and David Winters of Glenwood, Missouri; her three daughters, Dorothy Ehlert of Randalia, Iowa, Gloria Kibbee of Waterloo and Cynthia Heitmann of Jesup; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; her brother, Brother Matthew Wendlin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and her two sisters, Anne Schmitt of New Hampton, Iowa and Loretta Blong of St. Lucas. Angeline was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three grandchildren and one great grandchild; and five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may directed to the St. Patrick Catholic Church "Forward In Faith" fund and St. Patrick School.
