Hamlett, 63, formerly of Manchester, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness; survivors include her husband, Tim of Arlington; three sons, Jerald Meisgeier of Traer, and James and Dennis Meisgeier, both of Manchester; a stepdaughter, Lisa Byrne of Texas; four stepsons, Matt, Tom and Mark Hamlett, all of Arlington, and Neil Hamlett of Madison, Wis.; eight grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren; a brother, Wilbur Wendt of Manchester; and a sister, Betty Meisgeier of Strawberry Point; she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rollo Meisgeier in 1958; and a brother, Willis Wendt; services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with burial in Oakland Cemetery, both in Manchester; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church; Mrs. Hamlett worked in the Manchester school system for several years.

Grove,63, of Conrad, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Fran E.; four brothers, Delbert of Adair, and Jerry, Lawrence and Dale, all of Guthrie Center; 10 sisters, Evelyn Pohl of Panora, Esther Bohlender of Midway, Utah, Marguerite Pickle of Vancouver, Wash., Marie Grove of Glendale, Ariz., Gladys Rasmussen of Paramount, Calif., Bethene Phillips of Guthrie Center, Beverly Bowman of Des Moines, Beulah Andersen of Loveland, Colo., Patricia McCool of Mount Vernon and Janice Wright of Jefferson; preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. and Hazel Grove; and two brothers and a sister; services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reformed Church of Stout, with burial in Stout Cemetery; visitation from 2-8 p.m. today at Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad; a memorial fund is being established; Mr. Grove was plant supervisor at Ritchie Industries, where he worked for 35 years.

POSTVILLE -- Selma A. Wahls, 91, of Postville, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center, Postville, after a brief illness; survivors include three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on June 29, 1971; a foster son, Loraldo Wahls; a brother, Sam Blum; and two sisters, Emma Lau and Marie Schaefer; services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Center, Postville, with burial in Postville Cemetery; friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, and from 11 a.m. until services Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Center.

GLADBROOK -- Maxine R. Gloe, 94, of Gladbrook, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home, Gladbrook, of natural causes; survivors include a niece, Virginia Rowden of Gladbrook; and a nephew, Larry Wescott of Beamon; preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. in 1978; and a sister; graveside services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Badger Hill Cemetery, Gladbrook; visitation at Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday; a memorial fund has been established; Mrs. Gloe had been librarian at the Gladbrook Library for 23 years before retiring in 1959.

ELDORA -- William "Bill" Mairs, 46, of San Antonio, formerly of Eldora, died in San Antonio on Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, of cancer; survivors include a son, Scott of Dallas; a daughter, Michelle McAfee of Oklahoma City; a grandson; a stepdaughter, Melissa White of San Antonio; his mother, Marie Mairs Ramsell of Eldora; a brother, David of Mason City; two sisters, Nancy Mairs and Pat Brekke, both of Eldora; two stepbrothers, Michael Ramsell of Stoughton, Wis., and Larry Ramsell of Knoxville; a stepsister, Debbie Ramsell of Columbia, Wis.; and his grandmother, Elsie "Nano" Guiles of Eldora; he was preceded in death by his father, Howard; his stepfather, Lawrence Ramsell; and a sister, Susan Mairs; services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, Eldora, with burial in Eldora Cemetery; friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora; memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society; Mr. Mairs owned Mission Mechanical Services Inc., and Eccell Plumbing.

ORAN -- Mary Elizabeth Shannon, 86, of Oelwein, formerly of Oran, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Mercy's Living Plus Center in Oelwein of natural causes; survivors include a son, Jerry of Fairbank; two daughters, Janice Stanek of Marion and Karen Grantham of Hazleton; and 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, on Dec. 26, 1989; a son, Charles; and two great-grandchildren; services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank; burial in the church cemetery; visitation at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture service, both Tuesday; she and her husband farmed for many years; she also was employed at Schuckmanns Pharmacy and Woolworth's in Oelwein, before retiring; memorials to the family.

"Jackie" McGonigle, 61, of Oelwein, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at home after a brief illness; survivors include her husband, Paul S.; two daughters, Julie Manning of Oelwein and Jeannie Steffen of Dubuque; four sons, Perry of Dubuque, Dannie Ray of Lamotte, Mark of Newton and Mike of Des Moines; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Steele of Ellsworth and Phyllis Banning of Oelwein; and a brother, Pete Schneider of Stanley; she was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Allen and Randy Ray; a daughter, Debbie Cogill; two grandchildren; two sisters, Carol and Doris Schneider; and a brother, Kenny Schneider; services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial at 1 p.m. in Freeport Cemetery, Freeport; friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home; a memorial fund has been established.
