CEDAR FALLS -- Herbert C. Herzog, 89, of the Lutheran Home, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the home from complications of surgery.
He was born May 3, 1910, in Hubbard, son of Frederick Ernest and Anna Wilamina Roll Herzog. He married Christine M. Whittaker on March 22, 1940, in Kennett, Mo.
Mr. Herzog retired from Waterloo Industries in 1975.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Dave M. of Milan, Ill.; three daughters, Betty Sue Danielson and Marilyn R. Cirksena, both of Cedar Falls, and Carolyn K. Blott of Renton, Wash.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Irvan and Wayne, both of Cedar Falls, and Frederick of Independence; and a sister, Gladys Meinert of Grundy Center.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Paul and Elmer; a sister, Eleanor Russell; and a grandson.
Services: were Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.,
Memorial fund: will be established.

CEDAR FALLS -- Mary M. Giesler, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Lloyd and Hazel Edwards Bundy. She married William J. Giesler on Nov. 30, 1947, in Cedar Falls.
Mrs. Giesler worked at the St. Vincent de Paul store in Cedar Falls for many years.
Survived by: her husband; three sons, John, Andy and Robert, all of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Janeva Mast of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Bundy of Cedar Falls.
Preceded in death by: an infant brother, an infant sister and two grandchildren.
Services: were 10 a.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial fund: will be established.

CEDAR FALLS -- Iva Mae Dinnebier, 81, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Jesup, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Jesup, daughter of F. Ray and Effie Ennis Bailey. She married William Dinnebier on May 12, 1938, in Jesup. He died Nov. 10, 1978.
Survived by: two sons, Ray of Waterloo and Ralph "Bill" of Independence; four daughters, Glenda Alshouse of Cedar Falls, Doris Gust of Logansport, Ind., Evelyn Herrmann of Waterloo and Marsha Dinnebier of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Bailey of Independence; and two sisters, Eula Brown and Helen Blad, both of Jesup.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Roy, Ralph and Robert Bailey; and a sister, Nellie Green.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at American Lutheran Church, Jesup, with burial in Old Barclay Cemetery, Dunkerton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Chapel, Jesup, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorial services will conducted at the Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls, at a later date.
Memorial fund: will be established.

WATERLOO -- Ronald J. Hurley, 59, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Waterloo, son of Hirem and Eva Maxwell Hurley.
Survived by: a son, James A. of Waterloo; a daughter, Brenda Lee Bellows of Idaho, Colo.; a grandson; three sisters, Mary Ann Showers of Tacoma, Wash., Nancy Crapser of Cold Springs, Minn., and Patty Wilson of Hampton, Va.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, James A. and Robert; and a sister, Arlene Schake.
Burial: was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

CEDAR FALLS -- Roger J. Corwin, 90, of the Cedar Falls Western Home, formerly of 7025 Waverly Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the home of natural causes.
He was born March 22, 1909, in Janesville, son of Harry and Minnie Engleman Corwin. He married Helen Hanson on Dec. 6, 1941, in St. Joseph, Mo. She died Sept. 5, 1982.
Mr. Corwin served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from the John Deere Research Center in 1973.
Survived by: two sons, Daryl J. and Douglas H., both of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald of Cedar Falls and Lawrence of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, John and Earl; and two sisters, Jeanette Phelps and Mildred Kreger.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Janesville American Legion Post 522. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials: may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

WATERLOO -- Gertrude L. Sherwood, 58, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Allen Hospital of heart failure.
She was born April 12, 1941, in Manchester, daughter of George W. and Dorothy R. Timmons Voelschow. She married Robert Sherwood on Dec. 6, 1961, in Anamosa. He died Oct. 7, 1991.
Mrs. Sherwood worked at the Hong Kong Cafe as a waitress for 20 years.
Survived by: three sons, Robert, Todd and David, all of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Neelans and Linda Joy, both of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: her parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with burial in the cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Family Funeral Care and for a hour before services Friday at the cemetery chapel.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.

CEDAR FALLS -- Leonard Canvin Hahn, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 15, 1920, in Chicago, son of Andrew and Hazel Canvin Hahn. He married Betty J. Larson on Aug. 31, 1946, in Chicago.
Mr. Hahn served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He had worked as a compositor in the printing industry in Chicago.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Judi Spizzirri of Cary, Ill., and Linda Walsh of Cedar Falls; five granddaughters; and a sister, Grace Meyer of St. Maries, Idaho.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home. Military flag-folding rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
Memorials: may be directed to Allen Hospital.

WATERLOO -- Marshall E. Carpenter, 85, of 424 Colby Road, died Wednesday Nov. 10, 1999, at home of natural causes.
He was born April 7, 1914, in Yates Center, Kan., son of Charles E. and Clara Jose Carpenter. He married Catherine B. Weires on Feb. 25, 1933, in Waverly. She died July 20, 1992.
Mr. Carpenter was employed with Carnation Co. for 29 years and later owned and operated Carpenter's Restaurant for 10 years, retiring in 1979.
Survived by: two sons, John M. and Joseph P., both of Waterloo; seven daughters, Mary Carpenter, Joyce Kammeyer, Ann Hein and Carol Sullivan, all of Waterloo, Patricia Anderson of Waverly, Janice Starkey of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Kathleen Gable of Iowa City; 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Leota Rice of Waterloo and Lois Slaughter of Texas.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Mary Joan Carpenter; two sisters; and five brothers.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waverly. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.

WATERLOO -- Linda S. Davis Flint, 58, of 237 Linwood Ave., died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of leukemia.
She was born March 2, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Donald D. and Grace E. Davis. She married Gene Flint.
She graduated from Marion High School, Marion, in 1958 and Allen Memorial College of Nursing in 1961. She had been employed as a nurse at Allen Hospital for over 30 years.
Survived by: her husband; her parents of Marion; a sister, Janet Westphal of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada; and two brothers, Don Davis of Loveland, Colo., and Rick Davis of Marion.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Friday at Allen Memorial Hospital chapel. There will be no visitation, her body was cremated. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society or Allen College of Nursing.

CEDAR FALLS -- James W. Quegg, 85, of the Western Home, formerly of 1104 Clay St., died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the home of natural causes.
He was born June 2, 1914, in Hooks Point, son of William and Florence Milburn Quegg. He married Fern Evans on July 15, 1939, in Des Moines. She died Jan. 30, 1986.
Mr. Quegg graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, in 1934 with a pharmacy degree. He owned and operated drugstores in Grundy Center, Marshalltown and Ackley, then Heber Drug Co., Cedar Falls, retiring in 1980.
Survived by: two sons, Bruce of Cedar Falls and David of New Delhi, India; a daughter, Pamela Brown of Islamorada, Fla.; and a grandson.
Preceded in death by: an infant sister;
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

LA PORTE CITY -- Kirk Mahood, 80, of 11530 La Porte Road, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Benton County, son of Henry J. and Bertha Kaiser Mahood. He married Doris E. Whitmore on March 2, 1940, in rural Buckingham. She died March 24, 1985.
Mr. Mahood farmed in the La Porte City area.
Survived by: four sons, Darrell L. of Elberon, Victor R. of Lexington, Ky., Ted K. of La Porte City and David M. of Waterloo; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Richard; and special friend, Dorothy Rundel.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Huisman Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the church.
