Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Alvaro Echeverria
Alvaro Echeverria, 75, passed away on August 4, 2004 surrounded by family at the Kavanagh House on 56th St. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, August 9 at Our Lady of the Americas Visitation Worship Center. The body has been cremated and there will be no visitation. Private intermenty will be held at a later date.
Alvaro was born on December 31 of 1928 in Bogota, Colombia and worked as a pharmaceutical representative for most of his life. He enjoyed long walks, traveling and loved the colors of autumn.
He is survived and loved by his wife, Maria; his children, Maria Fernanda of Urbandale, Adolfo of Colombia SA, Anna (Steve) Pottebaum of Johnston and Alejandra "Alex" of Des Moines; and five grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Debra Welker and her nurse, Julie; and the staff at Kavanagh House for all their care and compassion. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Americas Visitation Worship Center.

ANGELA CORDARO
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Angela was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and had a deep commitment to her faith. She was a long time peace activist and a supporter of Catholic Worker House. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Angela was preceded in death by her husband, George. She will be missed by her daughter, Dianne (David) Underwood; sons, Joe (Rosie) Cordaro, Frank Cordaro, Bill (Dianne) Cordaro, Tom (Brigid) Cordaro and Rick (Judy) Cordaro; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, John Sposeto and Dominic Sposeto; and sisters, Rosa Thummel, Mary Sposeto, Isabelle Johnson, Theresa Fraser and Cathy Malsam.
Memorials are suggested to Catholic Worker House or St. Anthony's School.

Roberta Jean Noftsger
Roberta Jean Noftsger, daughter of John and Winnifred Evans, was born September16, 1925 and died on December 17, 2003 at the age of 78. Graveside services will take place 1 PM Monday, December 22 at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.
Roberta grew up and attended school in Lamoni, IA. On July 18th, 1947, Roberta Jean Evans and Donald Noftsger were married at the Methodist Church in Leon, Iowa and made their home in Forest City, IA. To this union were born three children; JonAnn, David and Dale.
Roberta was employed by Gjellefald Construction Company for 17 years and Waste Systems Corp until retirement in 1990. After retirement, she moved to Crown Colony in Lamoni. At Crown Colony, she served as a volunteer where ever needed and enjoyed all of the people living there.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 7, 1976, and her son, David on May 13th, 1989. Roberta will be missed by her daughter, JonAnn of Des Moines; son, Dale and wife, Carla, of rural New Virginia; grandsons, Drake and Derek; and great grandsons Skyler, Keaton and Hunter.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Crown Colony meal site in Lamoni.

Thomas H. Bos
Thomas (Tom) H. Bos, 55, died December 16, 2003, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. A Service of Remembrance will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20 at Plymouth Congregational Church.
Tom was born in Petoskey, Michigan and had lived in the Des Moines area since 1956. He retired from Quest Dex in 2003 and most recently owned the Booneville Junction General Store. Tom was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Sons of the Revolution, and the Military Vehicle Preservation Restoration Association. He was a WWII enthusiast and historian and enjoyed working on his many Jeeps. Tom was a real people person, who was known for his sense of humor and love of family.
He will be missed by his wife, Linda Stelpflug Bos; sons, Thomas William Robert Bos and Jon Michael Bos; daughter, Cassidy Elizabeth Bos, all of West Des Moines; mother, Ruth Leaverton of Des Moines; brother, Michael Bos of East Jordan, MI; and granddaughter, Destiny Dominquez of Jacksonville, NC. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Torey and brother, Jon.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 19, at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel.

Ailene Brown
Aileen is survived by a daughter, Donna (Ray Stalker) Brown; son, Nicholas (Susan); granddaughter, Realy Ann Wingert; and great-grandson, Charles Wingert. Services will be held at a later date at New York Cemetery in Wayne County.

Shirley E. Miller
Shirley E. Miller died December 21, 2003 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 24 at St. Mary of Nazareth. Burial will be Friday at the Calvary Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa.
Shirley was born in Webster City and had lived in Des Moines the past 45 years. She was a Personnel Director for Job Service State of Iowa and was a certified genealogist. Shirley was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth and was awarded the St. Ann Award from the Archdiocese of Dubuque. She served as the Past President for the Iowa Genealogical Society and for the Pioneer sons and Daughters, where she was currently the editor of their newsletter.
She will be missed by her goddaughter, Joy Bridenstine of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Brooks Funeral Care, where a Rosary will be recited at 7pm. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Abbie Evans
Abbie L. Evans, 98, died July 25, 2004 at the Kavanagh Hospice House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 28 at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown.
Mrs. Evans was born December 7, 1905, the daughter of Emund and Sadie (Tuttle) Byers in Shannon City, IA. She married James Lafe Evans on April 7, 1923. Mrs. Evans is survived by two children, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, a brother, sister and one grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kavanagh Hospice House on 56th Street or the Animal Rescue League.

ANGELINE C. ORTALE BARLOW
Angeline C. Ortale Barlow, 82, died in peace surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at Nathan Adelson Hospice. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Angeline was born April 30, 1922 to Michael and Christine Ortale. On July 7, 1945 she married Robert Barlow, who preceded her in death. Angeline was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Perez, Julia Reynolds and Rosemary Price; and brothers, Jack Ortale, Joseph Ortale and Louie Ortale. Angeline was a loving wife and mother who worked in the family grocery store, for the Polk County and El Bandito's Restaurant and was Beauty Operator. She was a North High School graduate. Angeline was a very devoted person who was loved by all.
She is survived by daughter, Jackie Barlow Taylor; sons, Robert G (Cecelia) Barlow, James "Jim" J. Barlow and Joseph J. Barlow, all of Pahrump, NV. four grandchildren, Angie Calhoun, Justin Barlow, Meredith and Derk Barlow; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Barlow; and brother, Michael Ortale of Huntington Beach, CA.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Annette Schiller
Annette Leah Schiller, 63, died June 21, 2004. Funeral Mass will be held 11 am, Thursday, June 24 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at church.
Annette was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and attended Drake University and St. Mary’s College in Omaha. She served as Administrative Manager for the Strategic Civil Defense Command unit in Huntsville, AL where she received numerous commendations for her work.
Annette will be missed by her children, Edward (Eileen) Horch of Bridgewater, NJ and Stephanie Horch-Schulz; her grandchildren, Brian and Alaena; her parents, Edward and Bette Schiller of Des Moines; her brothers, Ron (Cheryl) Schiller of Clive, Mike Schiller of Gardnerville, NV, and Ed (Debra) Schiller, Jr. of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her children, Jennifer Bridget and Kathleen Hope and brother, James Schiller.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to Holy Trinity School Foundation, Mercy Hospice, or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Angela Biondi
Angela C. Biondi, 98, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, April 26 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Angela worked at the VA Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. She was a loving and caring person who volunteered for various organizations in the Des Moines area.
Angela will be missed by her son, Victor J. Biondi; daughter, Mary L. Harvey; grandchildren, John Harvey, Jeff Harvey, Danny (Melinda) Biondi, Lynn (Jay Bain) Harvey, Michael Biondi, Kathy Harvey, Susan (Mark) Ladd; 10 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lucille.
Visitation will take place Sunday, April 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care – Tonini Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to House of Mercy.

Alfred H. Ridley
Alfred H. Ridley, 90, was surrounded by family as he peacefully passed away on January 10, 2004, at home. Graveside services will be 2 PM Friday at Highland Memory Gardens. Alfred was born June 13, 1913, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Ernest and Mary (Racer) Ridley. He married Virginia L. Zook on December 7, 1941. He retired after 29 years of working at Film Transportation/Iowa Parcel Services in 1971. Alfred enjoyed spending time with family, camping and making playground equipment for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbor kids. Alfred will be missed by two daughters, Marsha Mills, and Judy (Marvin) Young, a son Allen, his grandchildren Ginger Geiken, Tonna Karr, Margie Weaver, Lisa Carr, Howard Mills, Scott Mills, Cheryl Schemerhom, Shan Ridley, Nan Ridley, Dana Hayes, 16 Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, two grandsons, one great-grandson and his brothers and sisters.
Visitation will take place 5 to 8 PM today at Brooks Funeral Care Tonini Chapel. Memorials suggested to the family or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Alma M. Standley
Alma M. Standley, 99, died January 11, 2004, of congestive heart failure at Kavanagh House on Grand. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at the Spencer Cemetery in Stockport, IA.
Alma was born in Stockport, Iowa, and had lived in West Des Moines for the past 30 years. She was a homemaker and member of West Des Moines Christian Church. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, baking, Lawrence Welk, and polka music.
Alma will be missed by her daughter Eve (Reuben) Anhorn of West Des Moines; son, Ret. Col. USMC Bill R. (and the late Millie) Standley of Morehead City, NC; siser, Esta Hoffman of Pella; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edgar in 1973; six brothers; and four sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kavanagh House on Grand, Meals on Wheels, or West Des Moines Christian Church.

Aldo Vignaroli
Private services were held for Aldo G. Vignaroli, who lived in Ankeny prior to his retirement. Aldo will be missed by his sons, Gary (Susan) of Grapevine, TX and Larry of Des Moines; daughter, Sandi (Craig) Jorgensen of West Okoboji; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mimosa Manor in Keller, TX.

Anita Riccelli
Anita E. Riccelli, 81, died peacefully Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in Spokane, WA. Anita was born in Des Moines in 1923. She was raised and lived in Des Moines' South Side, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1942. Anita was employed first by the Bell Telephone System, and then AT&T, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Catholic Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, Bellizzi MacRae American Legion Auxiliary Post 659 and the Des Moines Women's Club. Anita left Des Moines in 2000 to be near her sons in Spokane.
Her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Louis G. Riccelli, passed on before her in 1994. Anita is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Louis and Paula and Michael and Gretchen, all of Spokane, WA; sisters, Amelia Garwick and Dorothy Jobe and brother, David Gasperi, all of Des Moines; brother, John Gasperi of Oxnard, CA; grandchildren, Louis, Marcus, Jereme and Alissa Riccelli and Alaina Fitzner; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Riley Fitzner.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 9 at Brooks Funeral Care Tonini Chapel, 2135 SW 9th St., followed by a vigil at 7 p.m. The funeral liturgy and eucharist will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday morning at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Rd., followed by intermenty at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Ave. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities, 601 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50309.

Agnes Whiting
Agnes Marie Whiting, 85, died June 17, 2004 of a heart attack at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 21 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Agnes was born in Prairieburg, IA. She lived in Urbandale for many years before moving to Johnston in November 2003. She was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church and enjoyed bingo, bowling and being with her family.
Agnes is survived by her husband, Roy of Johnston; daughters, Phyllis Keegan of Berkeley, CA, Teresa Keegan of Minneapolis, MN, and Tamasine (Michael) Reams of West Des Moines; stepson, Ronald (Pat) Whiting of Altus, OK; grandchildren, Karrie Anderson, Derick Krotz, Brian Reams and Erica Reams; and great-grandchildren, Bryan, Tyler and Clayton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Donald Keegan.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, where a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
