Vern Paustian, 84
GLADBROOK - Vern Paustian, 84, of Gladbrook, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home In Gladbrook.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Peace United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robert Doner officiating. Burial will be In the Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Visitation will be at the Goettsch Perrin Funeral Home in Gladbrook Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Vern was born in Tama County on July 25, 1919, the son of Louis and Amelia (Lage) Paustian. On Sept. 25, 1940, he was married to Leta Storjohann. They farmed all of their married life on the farm where Vern was born. In 1990 they retired, and in the fall of 2001 moved into Gladbrook.
Mr. Paustian was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and the Farm Bureau.
Vern Is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leta; a daughter Vivian Weuve of Traer; a son Darrell (Jeanne) Paustian of Gladbrook; three grandchildren Pam (Greg) Hoppal of Phoenix, Ariz., Suzanne Weuve and fiance Bernard Schwartz of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nicole Clapp of Lancaster, Wisc.; and two great-grandchildren, Melissa and Matthew Hoppal.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother Ed; a sister Alice Rehder; and a son-in-law Norman Weuve.

Baby Chavez, infant
Baby boy Chavez, infant son of Delfino and Norma Chavez of Marshalltown, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Services are pending at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.

Betty Baer, 65
Betty Baer, 65, of 2603 Reyclif Dr., died Feb. 4, 2005, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Funeral services are pending at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.

E. Beecher Crosley, 91
ELDORA - E. Beecher Crosley, 91, of Eldora, died of natural causes Feb. 3, 2005, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Creps Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be Masonic services beginning at 5 p.m. during visitation at the funeral home. Surviving is his wife Winnifred; five daughters, Dixie Crosley Harrington of Davenport, Tamma Crosley (Richard) Gaynor of Pleasant Hill, Polly Crosley (David) Granzow of Eldora, Barbara Putnam Larson of Clinton and Pamela Putnam (Bob) Kauffman of Grayslake, Ill.; a son Dennis Putnam of Waienae, Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

Frances P. Zmolek, 73
DALLAS CENTER - Frances "Fran" Zmolek, 73, of Dallas Center, died Feb. 3, 2005, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Rev. Keith Birch officiating. Cremation rites will follow and private family intermenty will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hand Funeral Home in Tama. A vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Hand Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
Frances is survived by her husband Richard A. Zmolek of Clive; her son Dr. John Benton of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Roberta Zmolek of Des Moines and Suzanne (Reggie) Carpenter of Virginia Beach, Va.; her brother Edwin Rudloff of Tucson, Ariz.; and two granddaughters.

Glenn Dee, 88
BAXTER - Glenn Dee, 88, of Baxter, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Rollin Watters officiating. Private family burial will follow services at the Restland Cemetery near Baxter. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the family present at that time. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of Jasper County or the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Nadine of Baxter; three brothers, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Dee of Baxter, Everett Dee (LaVonne Hunter) of Mingo and Darrell (Shirley) Dee of Baxter; and a sister Lorene Dee Sabin of Baxter.

Jon Malechek, 53
UNION - Jon Malechek, 53, of Union, died Feb. 5, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services are pending at Pursel Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Marshalltown.

Kristie M. Maas, 45
GLADBROOK - Funeral services for Kristie M. Maas, 45, were held Friday at Peace United Methodist Church of Christ in Gladbrook, with Rev. Robert Donner officiating. Interment followed in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Shane Arp, Jill Arp, Marisa Maas, Patrick Maas, Nicholas Maas, Jaime Sieck and Jonathan Maas.

Laurayne L. Meyer, 79
GRUNDY CENTER - Laurayne L. Meyer, 79, of Grundy Center, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Engelkes Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Colfax Center Presbyterian Church or Grundy Care Center.
Survivors include her step sons, Gary (Linda) Meyer of Waterloo and Dean (Paulette) Meyer of Grundy Center; sisters, Darlyne Larson of Cedar Falls and Deloris Eilers of Holland; brother Clarence (Ruth) Claassen of Grundy Center; sister in law Effie Hook of Grundy Center; six step grandchildren; and and seven great step grandchildren.

Melvin R. Kriegel, 83
Funeral services for Melvin R. Kriegel, 83, were held Friday at Estel Perrin Avey Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Shomo officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery with flag presentation by the Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 of the American Legion.
Casket bearers were Mike Kriegel, Steve Kriegel, Jared Kriegel, Phil Grommet, John Kjormoe and Paul Heckman. Honorary bearers were Bill Isgrig, Benny Blink, Bill Baltisberger and Bob Shively.
Groups attending were members of the Marshalltown High School Class of 1940 and Moose Lodge.

Michael Greiner, 14
ZEARING - Michael Greiner, 14, of rural Zearing, died Feb. 3, 2005, at Blank Children1s Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church north of State Center, with Pastor David Steege officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be directed to the Clemons Lutheran School or the family in his memory. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Michael and his family. For further information, please call 641-844-1234.
Left to mourn his loss are his parents, Arden and Ronna Greiner of rural Zearing; brother David and sister Kristine both at home; grandmother Lavonne Greiner of rural Zearing; grandparents. Nyle and Joann Hartwig of State Center; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Ruth Andrews, 82
NEW PROVIDENCE - Ruth Andrews, 82, of New Providence, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Funeral services are pending at Biersborn Funeral Home in Union.

Thelma Rose York, 89
STATE CENTER - Funeral services for Thelma Rose York, 89, a former State Center resident, were held Saturday at United Methodist Church in State Center, with Rev. Brent DeSilva officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers were Davis York, Michael York, Don Moore, Bentley York, Ray McCall, Randy Matheus, Lloyce Saltzman, Jennifer York. Honorary bearers were Jan Matheus, Diane McCall, Bobette Moore, Sydney Eggers and Samuel Eggers.
