Dorothy Blattel, 73
Dorothy Blattel, 73, a former Marshalltown resident, now of Des Moines, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services are pending at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, where friends may call for further information.

Johnny F. Vesely, 89
TRAER ­ Johnny F. Vesely, 89, of Traer, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. A memorial has been established.
Survivors include his wife Marlys of Traer; a daughter Deanna (Mike) Joebgen of Sumner; two sons, Galen (Donna) Vesely and Rick (Jan) Vesely, all of Traer; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Lucille P. Jebousek, 78
CONRAD - Lucille P. Jebousek, 78, of Conrad, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Conrad Assembly of God Church, with Rev. James Hartman officiating. Burial will follow in the Conrad Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund is being established.
Survivors include her husband James of Conrad; two daughters, Kristin (Ed) Spicer of Burlington and Debra (Dean) Ladehoff of Conrad; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mildred Stonewall, 88
Mildred Stonewall, 88, of Gilman, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Strand Lutheran Church in Dunbar, with the Rev. Allan Thoreson officiating. Burial will follow in Stavanger Friends Cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, where the family will be present at that time. Memorials may be directed to the Strand Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, David (Linda) of Gilman and Gene (Ruthanne) of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Stull of Waverly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a great-grandson and one sister, Esther Wertz.

Ralph W. Shaver, 79
NEWTON - Ralph W. Shaver, 79, of Newton, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, with Pastor David Rex officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his name.
He is survived by two sons, Larry (Sandy) Shaver and Terry Shaver, both of Newton; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Robert J. Shattuck, 61
Robert J. Shattuck, 61, of 1401 S. 7th Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, after being struck by a hit and run driver on Highway 30 near Tama.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held Monday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m. from the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerald Swanburg officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund is being established and memorials may be directed to the family. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but friends may call for further information.

Angela Clement, 32
Angela Clement, 32, of 1105 Washington St. in Marshalltown, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Salvation Army Citadel, 107 W. State St. Cremation will follow services in the Pursel-Davis Crematory and burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, CIRSI House and the Prader-Willie Association. Angela was born on May 10, 1971, in Marshalltown Iowa. Angela was born with the rare Prader-Willie Syndrome. She attended West Marshall Schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1991. She was an Officer in the Salvation Army and a member of the Salvation Army Church. She loved to volunteer her time and energy to help others at the Home League Library, local nursing homes, local schools and the public library. Angela enjoyed babysitting, crocheting and bowling on Friday nights.
Angela was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her parents, Karen Clement of Marshalltown and Danny (Lana) Clement of Rhodes; three brothers, Larry (Deb) Clement of Union, Rodney (Tera) Clement and Stephen Clement of Rhodes; a sister Katie Clement of Rhodes; her grandmothers Tillie Raney and Dorothy Clement of Rhodes; five nieces, Ashley, Kassy, and Hannah Clement, Moriah and Sara Manacke; two nephews, Travis and Hunter Clement; along with her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her two dogs, Bandit and Hershey.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Jiggs Raney and Kenneth Clement; and a niece Rachel Manecke.

Catherine Recktenwald, 64
NEW PORT RICKY, Fla. - Catherine Recktenwald, 64, of New Port Ricky, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 of a heart attack at her home.
She was survived by two daughters, two sons, two sisters, and three brothers, including Gaylord Gifford and John Gifford, both of Marshalltown.

Lulu Doran, 91
MANCHESTER - Lulu Gretchen Doran, 91, of Manchester, formerly of Tama, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, following a lengthy illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, with Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington as celebrant. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Tama. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home and Crematory in Manchester, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Good Neighbor Home and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. Condolences may be left with www.leonard-mullerfh.com
Casket Bearers will be Duane Tiemens, Greg Tiemens, Kevin Tiemens, Tim Tiemens, Doug Anderson, Richard Heffernen, Ambrose Kearney, Harold Schuett and John Doran. Music will be performed by the Assumption Choir.
She was born April 25, 1912, in Tama, the daughter of Amos and Carrie (Isbell) Paxton. She attended the Tama Public Schools.
On Nov. 23, 1931, Gretchen was united in marriage to James Leo Doran in Lancaster, Mo. The couple lived most of their married lives in Tama. James passed away on Dec. 7, 1957. Shortly thereafter, Gretchen began working as a housekeeper for priests in Dubuque and Clear Lake.
In 1969, Gretchen moved with her sister to Manchester and worked for a year at the Mode O' Day store. They continued to make their home in Manchester. Gretchen entered the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in 1997, and in 1998 moved to the Good Neighbor Home.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Ethy in infancy, Alba, Frederick and Gordon; and two sisters, Thelma in infancy and Grinnell Carnal.

Kathryn Brandt, 84
Kathryn Brandt, 84, of Hubbard, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at her home.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah Elliott, 87
Beulah Elliott, 87, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, in Hugo, Minn. Services are pending at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.

Odetha "Dee" Hackney, 88
Odetha "Dee" Hackney, 88, formerly of Gifford, currently residing at the Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center died there Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Gifford Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at the East Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union, where the family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family. Biersborn Funeral Home in Union has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Lois Shill, 86
Lois Shill, 86, formerly of 1008 S. 11th Ave., died Monday at Glenwood Place. Services are pending at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home.
