WATERLOO -- MaryAnne Herold, 72, of 1110 Virginia St., died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.
She was born March 28, 1928, in Waterloo, daughter of Allen LeRoy and Lily Faye Pickett Reams. She married Edward Arden Herold on June 10, 1952, in Waterloo.
Mrs. Herold was employed at Rath Packing Co. before her marriage. She later worked as a paraprofessional and teacher's aide in the Resource Room at Blessed Sacrament School until retiring in 1980.
Survived by: her husband; a daughter, Janice Bebee of Waterloo; three sons, Paul of Phoenix, David of Cedar Falls and Douglas of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

WATERLOO -- Lucile Irene Miller, 87, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.
She was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Fairbank, daughter of Griffith and Gertrude Hymer Miller.
Survived by: a sister, Ruby Knode of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Harold and Lewis Miller; two sisters, Leona Chestnut and Mildred Johnston; and two half sisters, Kathryn Wilson and Edith Oppelt.
Graveside memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation, her body was cremated. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel-downtown, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials; may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Parish or Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

DEWAR -- Dexter L. Ackerman, 70, of Dewar, died at home Tuesday, May 30, 2000, of a heart attack.
He was born April 28, 1930, in Waterloo, son of George and Ida Tegtmeier Ackerman. He married Vera L. White and they later divorced.
Mr. Ackerman owned and operated J&D Trucking for more than 20 years until recently retiring. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survived by: a daughter, Roxanne J. Hess of Waverly; a son, Steve W. of Bartelsville, Okla.; two granddaughters; a brother, Clarence of Waverly; and three sisters, Berdina Niemeyer and Gladys DeLong, both of Dunkerton, and Esther Hall of Cedar Falls.
Preceded in death by; a daughter, Dexann Ackerman; and two brothers, Lester and Chester.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Saturday at the chapel.

CEDAR FALLS -- Clarence Scobee, 96, of Grinnell, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 31, at Friendship Manor, Grinnell, of pneumonia.
He was born in Clements, Kan. He worked as a machinist for Viking Pump Co. for 35 years, then moved to Grinnell in 1967 and farmed.
Survived by: a daughter, Rosella Dillman of Gilman; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Fronie Freeborn of Florence, Kan., and Rose Murphy of Monet, Miss; and a brother, Tom of Cedar Falls.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, with burial in Chester Cemetery, near Grinnell. Friends may call today at the funeral home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

WATERLOO -- Paul D. Ferguson, 43, of New Albany, Miss., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Union County, New Albany, the victim of a homicide.
He was born July 1, 1956, in Benson, Minn., son of Clifford C. and Betty Carroll Ferguson. He married Cheryl Antenen.
Mr. Ferguson was the general manager of manufacturing at Piper Industries, New Albany, and was a former employee of Hydro Aluminum, Puckett, Miss., General Motors, Flint, Mich., and John Deere, Waterloo.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Lauren and Emily Ferguson, both at home; his mother of Rochester, Minn.; three sisters, Pat Bleckinger of White Bear Township, Minn., Mary Joe Berg of Enterprise, Kan., and Carol Moll of Rockford, Ill.
Preceded in death by: his father.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, Tupelo, Miss., Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at United Funeral Service, New Albany, and from 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the church, with a prayer service.
Memorials: may be directed to All Saints Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 608 W. Jefferson St., Tupelo, MS 38804.

WATERLOO -- Glenn Leon Piegors, 86, of 1839 Patton Ave., died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.
He was born June 14, 1913, in Bremer County, son of Earnest and Frances Johnston Piegors. He married Ruth M. Brennan on July 15, 1939, in Fairbank.
Mr. Piegors was employed as an office clerk at Rath Packing Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1974. He also was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Richard of San Francisco and Donald of Manchester; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by: two sisters, Irene Westendorf and Clara Richards.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Flag-folding rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. Senior Citizen's rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

FREDERIKA -- Clair W. "Dave" Davison, 87, of Frederika, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Bartels Lutheran Home, Waverly, after a lengthy illness; survivors include his wife, Bea; two daughters, E. Jean Smith of Edina, Minn., and Barbara Lee Scherr of Rapid City, S.D.; five grandchildren; a brother, James of Austinville; and four sisters, Nevada Ewing of Indiana, Frances Johnston of Blairsville, Pa., Virginia Davison of California and Marybelle Armstrong of Oklahoma; he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janis Engle; two sisters, Grace Wolf and an infant; and a brother, John K.; memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Frederika, with military rites by Thomas E. Woods American Legion Post 223, Sumner; there will be no visitation; his body was cremated; Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, is in charge of arrangements; Mr. Davison served in the U.S. Navy from 1932-36 and 1943-44, farmed in Black Hawk and Chickasaw counties, owned and operated Davison Hardware in Frederika from 1954 until retiring in 1986, and also drove a school bus for the Tripoli School District.

Lyle R. Parker
WATERLOO -- Lyle R. Parker, 83, of 1955 W. Sixth St., died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.
He was born July 16, 1916, in Jesup, son of Earl and Julia Gates Parker. He married Ruth Eitemiller on May 14, 1944, in Ames.
Mr. Parker was a graduate of Ames High School, Ames, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific as a Chief Pharmacist Mate. He was employed at Black's Department Store for 43 years as a credit manager, retiring in 1979. After retirement, he and his wife were representatives of Shaklee Vitamins. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Community Church, the Waterloo Lions Club, Toastmaster's International and Waterloo Rotary Club.
He enjoyed gardening, golfing, walking, sharing time with his family, and was proud of being named Waterloo's first "Father of the Year" in 1964 by the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Ron of Vienna, Va.; two daughters, Karen Ogbourne of Ames and Lanette Rodgers of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Thierer of Buckingham.
Preceded in death by: four brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, Ray and Orville.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Valley Community Church, Waterloo, with 1:30 p.m. graveside services at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Graveside flag folding rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the family or the church.

Nancy Ahlm Doolen
Nancy Ahlm Doolen, 47, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, N.J.
She was born Aug. 29, 1952, in Grand Rapids, Minn., to Dorothea (Peterson) and Bernard C. Ahlm, and grew up on Shallow Lake, Warba, Minn.
Nancy graduated from Itasca Community College and received her B.S. Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, Wis., with emphasis on art and art history. Nancy student taught in Australia and following her college graduation she taught art in Iowa public schools. She was appointed Administrative Assistant to the Director of Minority Student Affairs at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, where she worked until 1995 when she moved to West Allenhurst, N.J., where her husband, Dr. Michael Doolen, accepted a position at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital. Nancy worked at Monmouth University in New Jersey as a graduate student counselor until her illness prevented her from continuing. She died of breast cancer following a long struggle.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Michael Doolen, DVM, of West Allenhurst, N.J.; a brother, Rankin Ahlm, and wife Jeanne of Grand Rapids, Minn.; a sister, the Rev. EvaLyn Carlson, and husband Jim of Newton, Iowa; mother-in-law, Shirley Doolen of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Judy Owen and husband Todd, of Waterloo; nephews, Randy Ahlm, Jay Carlson and Todd Carlson; nieces, Jennifer Owen and Ann Marie Ahlm Lusk; and cousin, Joseph Ahlm of Eau Claire, Wis.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Dorothea and Bernard Ahlm; and a niece, Kelly Jeanne Ahlm.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 4, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Bill Bross officiating.
Memorials: may be directed to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
