Aurene Bisdorf (1918-2006)
WATERLOO -- Aurene Bisdorf, 87, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 31, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
She was born May 10, 1918, in Kesley, daughter of John and Elsa Hintzen Schoeneman. She married Edward L. Bisdorf April 7, 1950, in Waterloo. He died April 8, 1995.
She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate from Cornell College and her BA in English from U of I.
Mrs. Bisdorf taught English at McKinstry briefly and then for many years at East High, retiring in 1980. She then worked as a substitute teacher and as a volunteer for Alternatives for Women Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Survived by: two sons, William E. of Waterloo and Mike of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Nancy Price of Brooksville, Fla., and Janet (Larry) Eimers of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren, Amy (Ron) Dieffenbach, Amanda (Steven) Taylor, Benjamin Eimers, Todd Peglow, Jonathan Eimers, Malia Bisdorf, Tyler Peglow, Luke Eimers, Marin Bisdorf and Joseph Price; three great-grandchildren, Marshall Taylor, Alivia Taylor and Ryker Dieffenbach; and two sisters, Ruth Schoeneman of Waterloo and Adele McDowell of Des Moines.
Preceded in death by: her husband; a daughter, Anne Peglow; a brother, Eldon Schoeneman; and a sister, Joan Abkes.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.
Memorials: may be directed to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Alternatives for Women or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Mary Michelle Roby (1955-2006)
WATERLOO -- Mary Michelle Roby, 50, of 303 Anita St., died Monday, March 27, at her home of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 17, 1955, in Water Valley, Miss., daughter of Walter Jr. Carr and Edith Garrett. She married Preston Roby in 1977, in Waterloo.
Survived by: two sons, Preston Roby III and Robert Douglas Roby, both of Waterloo; two daughters, Nicole (Paul) Stinson and Alicia Anderson, both of Waterloo; one grandson; nine brothers, Michael Garrett, Anthony Garrett, Marion "Billy" Garrett, Mark Garrett and Maurice Turner, all of Waterloo, Walter Carr III, Michael (Linda) Carr and Tony Walton, all of Water Valley, and Thorwin (Elvira) Carr of Columbus, Miss.; and six sisters, Margaret Garrett and Cheryl Garrett, both of Waterloo, and Sheryl (Herbert) Carr, Justine Carr, Joette Carr and Missy Walton, all of Water Valley.
Preceded in death by: her parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Koinonia Ministries Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2222, Falls Ave., with burial at a later date. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Service.
Memorials: may be directed to the family at 303 Anita St., where they will receive friends.

Irene E. Werner (1922-2006)
WATERLOO -- Irene E. Werner, 84, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, March 30, at Covenant Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Dysart, daughter of Hessen and Min nie Mehlhaus Sheronick. She married Joseph P. Werner Feb. 12, 1945. He died Dec. 25, 1985.
She graduated from Orange High School in 1939. She and her husband farmed on Kimball Avenue, in the Eagle Center area, for many years. She also worked at Iowa Harvester and for many years at the law firm of Picket & Kober.
Irene was an active member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church including recently serving on the administrative board, a member of Legal Secretaries International and Victory Chapter.
Survived by: a brother, Edward (Marlene) Sheronick of Hudson; many foster children; and many nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with burial Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.
Memorial fund: will be established.

Duane F. Getty (1935-2006)
WATERLOO -- Duane Frederick Getty, 70, of Richardson, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 28, in Richardson.
He was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Freeport, Ill., son of Florence Evelyn and Frederick Eatherton Getty.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 in Germany and from 1961 to 1962 in Fort Knox, Ky. He was president and CEO of Jimmy Dean Foods/Sara Lee, retiring in 1994.
Survived by: his wife, Marjorie "Marge"; three daughters, Diane (Kyle) Stone, Kristine Evelyn Getty and Janet Sue (Phillip) Monk; seven grandchildren; a brother, Harold E.; and a sister, Mary Ellen Werkmeister.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Gerald.
Services: were Friday in Richardson, with private family burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Frederick J. "Fritz" Heidt
MOUNT AUBURN -- Frederick J. "Fritz" Heidt, 61, of Mount Auburn, formerly of Jesup, died Thursday, March 30, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 10, 1945, in Black Hawk County, son of Medar and Elsie McKeen Heidt. He married Marcella Pettengill and they later divorced, He then married Leanne Cecilia Pint on Aug. 1, 1970, in Marion. She died in 1991. He later married Laura Kae Fehr Boomer on Dec. 18, 1998, in Mount Auburn.
Mr. Heidt graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1963.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Shane (Lori) of California and Jason (Heather) of Altoona; three daughters, Elisha Heidt of Waterloo, Andrea Heit (Greg Dietzenbach) of Anamosa and Amanda Heit (Denny Horn) of Evansdale; four grandchildren; a stepson, Eric (Deb) Karr of Council Bluffs; a stepgrandson; and two sisters, Mary Hilton of Overgaard, Ariz., and Bonnie (Bill) Cavin of Cedar Rapids.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Robert and Harry; and a sister, Ramona Frieling.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. Public visitation after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Raymond H.W. Bunger (1913-2006)
TRIPOLI -- Raymond Heinrich Wilhelm Bunger, 92, of Storm Lake, formerly of Tripoli, died Thursday, March 30, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Storm Lake.
He was born Sept. 9, 1913, son of Edward and Emma Liebau Bunger. On Oct. 4, 1940, he married Mavis Laura Selck. She died in 1998.
Mr. Bunger graduated from Tripoli High School in 1932, then attended Wartburg College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was assigned to the 7th Air Force, 494th Bomb Group (Heavy), supporting Pacific Theater missions in Hawaii, Saipan, Okinawa, Tinian and Guam. He was employed at Hasbrouck-Votmann Lumberyard until 1960, then he and his wife owned and operated Ray's Clothiers and Cleaners in Tripoli until 1988. He was past president of the Tripoli School Board,
Survivors include: two sons, Dixon (Rachel) of Corinth, Texas, and Bruce (Beth) of Flowood, Miss.; a daughter, Wende (Dan) Douglas of Storm Lake; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Burton of Milwaukee, Wis.
Preceded in death by: five brothers: Lorenz, Milton, Edward, William and Kenneth Bunger; and a sister, Florence Strom.
Services: were 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Storm Lake.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli, with graveside military rites and burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services today at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home, Storm Lake, is in charge of the arrangements.

Darlene Mayo (1929-2006)
WAUCOMA -- Darlene Mayo, 76, of Waucoma, died Thursday, March 30, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, following a brief illness.
She was born July 11, 1929, in Waucoma, daughter of George and Mary Ott Meyer. She married Robert Mayo on Sept. 7, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma. He died in 1985.
Mrs. Mayo has been the live-in caretaker at Waucoma Funeral Chapel for the past 21 years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Susan Swestka of Cedar Rapids and JoAnn (Duane) Wurzer of Lawler; a son, Dave (Marge) of Nashville, N.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neal (Irene) Meyer of Des Moines and Mike Meyer of Waucoma; a brother-in-law, Lee (Marlene) Mayo of Hawkeye; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie (Ray) Warnke of Maynard.
Preceded in death by: two brothers and a sister.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation 3 to 8 p.m. today at Waucoma Funeral Chapel, with a 4 p.m. parish rosary and an 8:30 p.m. Scripture service.
Memorials: may be directed to the family at 215 Third Ave., Waucoma 52171.

Donna Jean Cripe (1928-2006)
FAIRBANK -- Donna Jean Cripe, 77, of Fairbank, died Wednesday, March 29, at the Oelwein Health Care Center, Oelwein, of cancer.
She was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Brownstown, Ill., daughter of Ezra Earl and Alma May Ward Rush. She married Norman Buel Cripe on Oct. 19, 1945, in Belleville, Ill. He died in October 1966.
Mrs. Cripe attended school in Brownstown, Ill.
Survivors include: three sons, Norman "Randy" (Karen) of Oelwein, Scott Keith (Ruth) of Fairbank and Michael Gene of Junction City, Kan.; a daughter, Elizabeth Shirlene (Steve) Porter of Highland, Utah; a brother, Eulas Lee "Bud" Rush of Pawpaw, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a stepgrandchild.
Preceded in death by: a son, Kevin Lee; and a sister, Dorothy May Long.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairbank Cemetery. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and for an hour before services Tuesday, all at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard "Bernie" Whiteside (1929-2006)
SHELL ROCK -- Bernard "Bernie" Whiteside, 76, of Shell Rock, died Thursday, March 30, at his home of natural causes.
He was born May 21, 1929, in rural Clarksville, son of Jesse and Mabel Tennyson Whiteside. He married Charlene Drenth Wordes Dec. 27, 1985.
Mr. Whiteside worked for Witt Lumber Yard in Shell Rock for two years and later the Shell Rock Hatchery, Waverly Redi Mix and Schield Bantam Company as a machine operator. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later worked at Waterloo Industries, retiring in 1991.
Survived by: his wife; six stepchildren, Dwayne (Cindy) Wordes, Byron (Wanda) Wordes and Dan (Deb) Wordes, all of Clarksville, Mark (Barbara) Wordes of Menominie, Wis., Paul Wordes of Minneapolis and Cheryl (Tim) Sherburne of Shell Rock; 10 stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Tom (Rainll) Metzger of Placerville, Calif.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Leland; and a sister, Lucille.
Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Shell Rock United Methodist Church. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church. His body has been donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health in Des Moines. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: may be directed to the family or to the church.

Robert H. McCardle (1930-2006)
INDEPENDENCE -- Robert H. McCardle, 75, of Independence, died Saturday, April 1, at West Village Care Center, Independence, following a long illness.
He was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Independence, son of Merritt J. and Verna L. Blank McCardle. He married Mary C. Bergeron Nov. 22, 1952, in Williamstown, Mass. She preceded him in death March 19, 2003.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. McCardle farmed, worked for Rath Packing Co., and was a purchasing agent for Janesville Auto Transport for 30 years, prior to his retirement.
Survived by: a daughter, Paula Mitchell of Janesville, Wis.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Mary McCardle of Independence; two brothers, John of Brandon and Merritt "Junior" of Independence; and three sisters, Marva Schmitt of Independence, Rosemary Sironen of Madison, Ohio, and Elaine Lee of Callahan, Colo.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Kenneth and Roger; and two sisters, Jean Parrish and Mary Alice McCardle.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. military memorial service and a 7:30 p.m. parish vigil service.

Anna Bell Engel
Anna Bell Engel, 93, of Marion, died Friday at the Willow Garden's Care Center following a brief illness. Cremation was held and memorial services will be later. Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.
Surviving are a son, Marvin (Janice) of Hudson; a daughter, Dorothy Kruckman of Marion; five grandchildren, Valorie, Brenda, Chris, Julie and Debbie; nine great-grandchildren, Briana, Tim, Gary, Robert, Tracy, John, Adam, Aric and Derya; and two great-great-grandchildren, Bryce and Dravin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; a great-grandson; and a daughter-in-law.
She was born on March 21, 1913, in Allendorf, to Frank and Bertha (Clive) Stolp, and formerly had worked for the Nash Finch Company for 35 years, the Armar Ballroom and many restaurants in the area.

Janice Louise Hellenschmidt Seller
Janice Louise Hellenschmidt was born to Roger and Loraine Hellenschmidt on Nov. 1, 1946, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1964. She continued her education at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, and completed her English degree in 1968 at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind.
She sang with the Metropolitan Chorale in Waterloo, and various touring Luther College Choral groups. Jan married James Seller of Minneapolis in 1966.
She worked as a library researcher for Encyclopedia Britannica in Chicago and Minneapolis, as a market researcher, paralegal office manager, and between 1987 and 2000, as a bookkeeper for the Minnesota AIDS Project.
Jan joined the congregation of The Cathedral Church of St. Mark in 1978. She was a caring and compassionate person who supported and accepted many who required or asked for her help. She was particularly touched by those who were helped by the Minnesota AIDS Project.
Jan died on March 21, 2006, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital after a long illness. Our hearts are saddened by her long struggle.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Loraine in 1971. She is survived by her father, Roger Hellenschmidt of Waterloo; brothers, Paul Hellenschmidt of Annandale, Minn., and Mark Hellenschmidt of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her favorite charity. Contributions can be sent to the Janice L. Seller Memorial Fund, c/o First National Bank of the Lakes, 3100 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408.
She will be interred at the Columbarium at The Cathedral Church of St. Mark, 519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, where a memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, at 10:30 a.m.

Robert C. Hoag
WATERLOO -- Robert C. Hoag, 83, of Waterloo, passed away March 29, 2006, at Golden Valley, Minn. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with an 8 p.m. Masonic service.
Mr. Hoag is survived by his daughter, Trudy Hoag of Golden Valley; his brother, Dean Hoag of Manson; and his sister-in-law, Grace Hoag of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susannah; sister, Eleanor Wactell; and brothers, Eldon Hoag and Roland "Ron" Hoag.
Robert Cameron Hoag, the son of Roland and Helen (Mather) Hoag, was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Humboldt County and graduated from Bradgate High School in 1941. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and during World War II served in England. It was while in England, he met Susannah and the couple were united in marriage on April 17, 1945, at St. Martins In The Fields Episcopal Church near Coventry. Following his discharge the couple made their home in Des Moines where Robert graduated from A.I.B. He then worked for Firestone Tire Co. in Des Moines until moving to Waterloo where Waterloo Tire Sales employed him. In 1957, Robert became an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 1982.
Mrs. Hoag passed away in 1996 and Robert continued to maintain his home in Waterloo. He passed away at his daughter's home on the morning of March 29, 2006, at the age of 83.
Mr. Hoag was a member of the First Methodist Church in Waterloo. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Lodge #105 of Waterloo, and the El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids. He was also a life member of the AMVETS.

Mary C. Suhr (1910-2006)
WATERLOO -- Mary C. Suhr, 95, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, April 11, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.
She was born April 18, 1910, in Butler, Minn., Ottertail County, daughter of Henry Jason and Burma Eliza Goodsell. On Oct. 22, 1927, she married Don Goodsell in Charles City, and they later divorced. On April 11, 1936, she married Claude Belden Wilson in Clarksville. He preceded her in death. On Nov. 15, 1952, she married Oscar Suhr. He died in 1966.
Mrs. Suhr was employed at Lamson Hotel and the Hickory House Restaurant.
Survivors include: three sons, Westley Goodsell of Yuma, Ariz., Russ Goodsell of Evansdale and Edward John Wilson of Waterloo; a daughter, Maxine Lincoln of Strawberry Point; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Ginther of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel.
Memorial fund: has been established.
