Albert F. "Barney" Jennings (1923-2006)
WATERLOO -- Albert F. "Barney" Jennings, 82, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 12, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Melvin and Matilda Muller Jennings. He married Margaret F. Anderson on Dec. 9, 1943, in Waterloo.
Mr. Jennings worked from 1953 until retiring in 1980 for Waterloo Fire Rescue. He then worked at the Cedar Falls Post Office in maintenance, retiring again in 1988. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II and again during the Korean War. He also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Kathryn Ann (Wayne) Bullis of West Des Moines and Barbara Jean (Joseph) Kruth of Cedar Rapids; a son, Thomas J. (Nancy) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Tricia (Daron) Jordan of Madisonville, Ky., Lisa (Tim) Brickman of Adel, Michael A. Jennings of Waterloo, Matthew J. Jennings of Iowa City, Melissa M. Kruth of Chicago and Meghann M. Kruth of Cedar Rapids; and a great-grandson, Dallas Brickman.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Arnold J.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Vincenzo "Enzo" DeLiso (1919-2006)
CEDAR FALLS -- Vincenzo "Enzo" DeLiso, 87, of Bickford Cottage, formerly of Mallard Point Retirement Residence and Deerfield, Ill., died Wednesday, April 12, at his home in Cedar Falls.
He was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Mola di Bari, Italy, son of Vitantonio and Rosa Carmelo DeLiso. He married Gemma Fazzini Aug. 26, 1943, at Vezzano Ligure, Italy. She preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1998.
He was a submariner in the Italian Navy during World War II. In 1956 the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Highland Park, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, where Enzo was a chef with ARA Business Dining Services for more than 30 years.
Survived by: a daughter, Caroline (Jim) Gosnell of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Erik (Vicki) Gosnell of Cedar Falls; a granddaughter, Amy Gosnell of Lone Tree; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trenton and Niko Gosnell of Lone Tree and Dominick Gosnell of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Angela Bellantuono of Highland Park, Ill.
Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Flora Nardomarino and Isabella DeLiso.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials: may be directed to Amenity Hospice.

August L. Steinmeyer (1927-2006)
GRUNDY CENTER -- August L. Steinmeyer, 79, of Grundy Center, died Thursday, April 13, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Grundy Center.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Lincoln Township, Grundy Center, son of August Lammert and Grace Rozevink Steinmeyer. He married Anita Jane Berends May 1, 1952, at the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church. She died Feb. 8, 1969. He then married Arlene Elaine Meyer Wiegman May 24, 1971, at St. James Lutheran Church, Allison.
He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1945 and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Mr. Steinmeyer and his wife farmed in rural Grundy Center, retiring in 1996.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, August Steven (Sheila) Steinmeyer and Curtis (Karen) Wiegman, both of Grundy Center; three daughters, Debra (Allan) Myers of Grundy Center, Cynthia Saylor (Leon) Barber of Vinton and Lisa (Scott) Harms of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin (Joyce) and James (Janice), both of Grundy Center; and seven sisters, Mary Henze, Anna Mae Meyers and JoAnn Wrage, all of Grundy Center, Barbara Huntley of Stout, Alice Koltoff of Aplington, Rozella (Lary) Riebkes of Wellsburg and Wonda (Larry) Sovereign of Iowa City.
Preceded in death by: his stepfather, Leland Bingham; and a brother, Alvin.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, with burial in the Lincoln Center Township Cemetery, rural Grundy Center. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 349 and AMVETS Post 17 of Grundy Center. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.
Memorials: may be directed to Grundy County Hospice and the Parkinson's Foundation.

Bonita L. "Bonnie" Thompson, 58, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at her home, of respiratory failure. She was born November 15, 1941 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Brown) Jones. Bonnie married Lyle Thompson on July 18, 1960 in McGregor, Iowa. She was a homemaker and mother, and volunteered for the Cub Scout and Brownie organizations. Bonnie and Lyle were also a host family for the Student Foreign Exchange program.
She is survived by her husband Lyle, of Cedar Falls; her children, Dawn Mary Hild and her husband Craig, and Dianne K. Schultz and her husband Gil, all of Cedar Falls, and James L. Thompson and his wife Anita of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Dillon and Cody Hild, and A.J., Kyle and Ashli Schultz; her parents, Fred and Alice Jones of Onalaska, Wisconsin; a brother, Roger Jones of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister, Jean James of La Crosse, Wisconsin; her mother-in-law, Alice Thompson of Cedar Falls; her sisters-in-law, Joni Briggs of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Janice Verdick and her husband Dennis of Omaha, Nebraska; and her close friends, Donnie and Karen Kneifl of Bangor, Wisconsin.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father-in-law, James A. Thompson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2000, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3:30 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with a 4:00 p.m. rosary service and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.

Alva Rokes was born March 9, 1926 in Marshall County Iowa the son of John and Edna (Taylor) Rokes. He married Dorothy A. Zirat June 4, 1952 in Tama, Iowa. Mr. Rokes was a Contractor, building 23 shopping centers, hospitals, schools, etc. He served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 73 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Cedar Falls, his son, Tracy and his wife, Delonna, of Cedar Falls and their three daughters, Alexis, Natalie, and Miranda; and two brothers, Harold of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Roger of Marshalltown, Iowa.
Alva was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Phillip in infancy, Ralph, and John; and three sisters, Maxine Schuler Brown, Florance Cooper, and Grace Jordebrek.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the UNI Football program.

KIMBERLY SUE STRATTON
Kimberly was born August 11, 1969 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of Gary and Maxine (Horness) Stratton. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa and her Master’s Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Kimberly was the Publications and Marketing Coordinator for the Fire Service Institute at Iowa State University. She died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines from injuries received in a automobile accident. She was 30 years of age.
Survivors include her parents, Gary & Maxine Stratton of Hudson; two brothers, Galen Stratton and his wife, Teresa, of Williamsburg, Iowa, Garrett Stratton and his wife, Stephanie, of Altoona, Iowa; her sister, Karmin Stratton of Hudson, her paternal grandparents, Galen & Lois Stratton of Ames and her close friend, Troy Walker, of West Des Moines, Iowa.
Kim was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Haakon & Elizabeth Horness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, Iowa with burial in the Hudson Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and for one hour preceding service time at the church on Wednesday. A Memorial Fund will be established.

Allan Smith, 45, of Wichita, Kansas and formerly of Cedar Fall died Saturday at Hospice of Wichita.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Harold A. Haverkamp (1934-2006)
TRIPOLI -- Harold August Haverkamp, 71, of Tripoli, died Friday, April 14, at the Community Memorial Hospital, Sumner, of natural causes.
He was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Creighton, Neb., son of Julius C. and Hulda Stutheit Haverkamp. He married Betty Lou Nerge on June 30, 1957, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli.
Mr. Haverkamp served with the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate aboard the USS Remy stationed in the Mediterranean Sea during the Red Sea Crisis. He farmed in Douglas Township for several years, then worked for Stahlhut Trucking, IMC in Tripoli, Oliver Tractor in Charles City, the Frederika Mill and Amaco/Cropmate Fertilizer in Tripoli. He also owned and operated the Tripoli Fertilizer Plant for more than 20 years and the Tripoli Car Wash since 1992. He was chairman of the entryway building committee at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Dwight (Leslie) of Dumont; two daughters, Joan Schweer of Denver and Kay (Timothy) Joebgen of Greene; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Erwin of Sumner and Marvin of Grundy Center; and two sisters, Esther Meier of Bella Vista, Ark., and Elaine Meihost of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Elmer, Richard and LaVerne.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Siegel, Tripoli, with private family inurnment in the church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Brandenburg-Krueger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4013. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Siegel Memorial Fund.

Gayl A. Cummings
DIKE -- Gayl A. Cummings, 61, of Westfield, N.J., formerly of Dike, died at home April 10 of cancer.
She was born in Dike, daughter of Harold and Mae Arends Cummings. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids.
She was a registered nurse for 38 years. She worked at the Skaggs Community Hospital in Branson, Mo., for 10 years. Prior to that she had worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for 25 years.
Survivors include: a daughter: Julie (Ron) Kropp; a son: Greg (Kathy) Hammond of Loveland, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dike United Methodist Church with inurnment in Stout Cemetery, Stout. Public visitation 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at Dike United Methodist Church. The Dike Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Erma Holler (1901-2006)
WATERLOO -- Erma Holler, 105, of Rome, Ga., formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 12, at Beverly Healthcare, Rome, of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 29, 1901, in Rock Island, Ill., daughter of Frank and Anna Johnson Kipp. On Sept. 14, 1931, she married Frederick H. Holler in Chicago. He died Aug. 6, 1983.
Mrs. Holler was a long-time employee of Litchfield Manufacturing in Waterloo.
Survivors include: a niece, Crystal Anderson of Waterloo; and a nephew, Craig Kipp of Rome.
Preceded in death by: two brothers.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Emmabelle Dieckman (1910-2006)
WATERLOO -- Emmabelle Dieckman, 96, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died in Leesburg on Friday, April 14, of natural causes.
She was born April 8, 1910, in Orange Township near Waterloo, daughter of Rollin and Lila Shaulis Smith. She married Harry Dieckman in 1968. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dieckman graduated from Orange Township High School in 1928 and attended Allen Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN degree in 1931. Her nursing career included working in New York City, Florida and Iowa.
Survivors include: two nieces, Susan Adesman of Durham, N.C., and Connie Kluever of Bronxville, N.Y.; and three nephews, Gary Kluever of Nevada, Iowa, Craig Smith and Tracy Smith, both of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: a brother; and three sisters.
Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Orange Township Cemetery. Public visitation 5 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Elsie L. Straube (1915-2006)
JANESVILLE –- Elsie L. Straube, 90, of Janesville, died at home Saturday, April 15.
She was born June 23, 1915, in Cedar Falls, daughter of William and Sophie Brandhorst Andorf. She married Richard S. Straube on June 26, 1937, in Jesup. He died Dec. 9, 1993.
Survivors include: two brothers, Earl Andorf of Lodi, Calif., and Robert (Shirley) Andorf of Cedar Falls; five nieces, Pat (Maynard) Bietz of Denver, Iowa, Joanne Lewis and Rita Garretson, both of Waterloo, MaDonna (Skip) Edmiston of Anchorage, Alaska, and Hillary (Brent) Roberts of Lodi; seven nephews, Bill (Monte) Hightower of Anchorage, James (Gail) Caldwell of Cascade, Idaho, Kenny (Terri) Andorf of Dysart, Mike (Sandy) Andorf of Waterloo, Allan (Adreienne) Andorf of Waterford, Calif., Eric Andorf and Keith (Carmenn) Andorf, both of Lodi; and good friend, Lee Hale of Janesville.
Preceded in death by: her parents; six sisters, Alvina Wilson, Ruth Freel, Martha Hightower, Emilie Caldwell, Dora Petrie and Louise Andorf; and three brothers, Theodore, LeRoy and Chris Andorf.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilbur C. Huck Jr. (1943-2006)
JESUP -- Wilbur C. Huck Jr., 62, of Jesup, died at home Monday, April 17.
He was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Wilbur Charles and Virginia Katherine Sparks Huck Sr.
Mr. Huck graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, in 1962, then from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), Cedar Falls, with degrees in history and mathematics, and partially completed coarse work in the masters program. He worked 19 years at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co., Waterloo, until 1985.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan; two sons, Joseph (Rachel) of Waterloo and Benjamin (Jodee) of Des Moines; a daughter, Angela Huck Noel (Justin Longhorn) of Waterloo; six grandchildren; two sisters, Karen Meyer of Waterloo and Sandra (Ron) Pflughaupt of Marion; and a brother, Daniel (Alma) of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, John Joseph and Martin Michael; and a grandson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville. Public visitation 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 3 p.m. parish rosary, a 7 p.m. vigil service and an 8 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Ruth Williams (1925-2006)
INDEPENDENCE -- Ruth Clark Williams, 80, of Independence, died Monday, April 17, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, following a long illness.
She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Brandon, daughter of Leslie J. and Ivah M. Miller Halstead. She married Ray Clark in 1949 and they were later divorced. She then married Charles D. William on April 3, 1976, in Brandon. He died in 1990.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Brandon High School in 1941 and attended Coe College and St. Luke's School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1947. She worked as a nurse for People's Memorial Hospital in Independence for over 30 years until her retirement.
Survivors include: a son, Michael (Phyllis) Clark of Brandon; three daughters, Shirley Clark of Everett, Wash., Patricia Marsh of Oelwein and Susan (Phillip) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Betty Davis.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Brandon United Methodist Church, Brandon, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with a 7 p.m. Rebekah memorial service. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.
