BAUER, MARY JO, 49, of New Richmond, Wisconsin and formerly of the Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa area died Tuesday, October 15, 2002 in a motor vehicle accident near New Richmond, Wisconsin. She was born, March 12, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph E. and Barbara (Korey) Butler. She married Dan Bauer October 21, 1972, in Waterloo, Iowa. Mary Jo graduated in 1971 from Columbus High School in Waterloo, Iowa and became a registered nurse and was currently working at the Lakeview Hospital, Stillwater, Minnesota.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband Dan, New Richmond, Wisconsin; two sons, Joshua (Gail) Bauer, Ames, Iowa and Mike Bauer, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.; two daughters, Danielle (David) Schmidt, Plymouth, Nebraska and Carrie (William) Leonhardt, Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandchildren, Ethan Bauer and Hunter Bauer; her parents, Joe and Barbara Butler, Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, JoAnn (Paul) McIntee, Kissimmee, Florida and Barbara (Jay) Gaard, Cedar Falls, Iowa; three brothers, James Butler and Joseph Butler both of Missoula, Montana and Michael (Michele) Butler, Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.

BEARD, FRANK ALLEN was born April 21, 1959 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clarence L. and Allene (Hamilton) Beard. He worked for ABC Mini Storage Company in Waterloo for many years. Frank was also a handyman and was working at Northland Products Company in Waterloo. He died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his home in Waterloo, at 44 years of age.
Frank is survived by his sister, Carol Pieper and her husband Steve, of Eldridge, Iowa; his two brothers, Tom Beard and his wife Sandy, of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin and James Beard of Waterloo; and a faithful companion, his dog “Dax”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Babcock.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with intermenty at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

BEASLEY, PATRICIA ANN age 74, of Cedar Falls, IA, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born December 29, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Harriet (Terrell) Reardon. On November 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to James Edwin Beasley at First United Methodist Church in Waterloo.
She is survived by her husband James Edwin Beasley; one son, James (Sherri) Beasley of Waverly, two daughters, Sandy (Steve) Sonnack of Waterloo and Kathy Hebert of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, and one brother Michael (Ona) Reardon of Paradise, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, one great granddaughter, and one brother, Dick Reardon.
Private family services. Memorials may be directed to the family.

BEEBE, DOROTHY D. 90, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Stanard Assisted Living Center of the Western Home Communities. She was born February 22, 1914 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Worth E. & Bessie S. (Hoover) Lacy. She married Raymond “Ray” Beebe May 4, 1936 in Rockford, Illinois. He preceded her in death June 24, 1992. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Grange Heating in Waterloo retiring in 1969.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Liane) Beebe of Cedar Falls, Duane E. Beebe of Boca Raton, Florida; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Lyn A. Beebe, an infant daughter, one grandson, her brother, Loyd Scovel and one sister, Virginia Lacy Shook.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waterloo with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the church.

BEHRENS, PALMA LILLIAN BORLAUG, 87, of Bickford Cottages, died Friday, March 5, 2004 She was born April 16, 1916, on Palm Sunday, to Henry O. and Clara Vaala Borlaug in the Saude community near Cresco and Protovin. She married Virgel E. Behrens on June 1, 1941 at the Saude Lutheran Church. He died December 22, 1972. Mrs. Behrens attended New Oregon #8 rural school in Howard County through 8th grade. This one-room schoolhouse is now located at her childhood farm, which is owned by the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation. She attended Cresco High School for three years and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1934. From 1935-1939 she taught in rural schools in Howard and Chickasaw Counties. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1940 and taught at Delhi, Iowa in 1940-1941. Mrs. Behrens began teaching kindergarten in Cedar Falls in 1953 and retired in 1982. She received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. She was active in the Sartori Hospital Auxiliary, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Guild, Cedar Falls Historical Society, Cedar Falls Community Playhouse, Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Auxiliary, St. John Lutheran Church, International Questors, Sons of Norway (Charter member), Tuesday Club, and PEO. Faith, family, and education were most important to her throughout her life. She was a beloved teacher of hundreds of kindergarteners during her career.
Survived by: a daughter, Judith (Patrick) Reed of Lehigh, Iowa; a son, Ted (Jane) of Cedar Falls; a brother, Dr. Norman E. Borlaug (Margaret) of Dallas, Texas; a sister Charlotte Borlaug (Leonard) Culbert, of Cresco, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Bill Reed, Mikel Reed, Erin Downs, Ty Reed, Lindsey Reed, Matthew Behrens, and Leah Behrens, and 7 great-grandchildren, Trae Reed, Abby Reed, Paige Reed, Andrew Reed, Alexandra Reed, Ashlee Downs, and Zachary Downs. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Memorial services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church, 8th & College, in Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation, her body was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BENSON, ANITA R., was born October 8, 1934 in Humboldt County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Estella (Leist) Day. She married Dewain Benson in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1963. She married Arlyn Benson in Minnesota. He preceded her in death in 1969. Anita participated in harness racing as a teenager. She was a custodian for the Janesville School District for many years. Anita died Thursday, August 26, 1999 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, at 64 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Dewain D. Benson, Jr., Robert L. Benson and John D. Benson, all of Waterloo, Gretchen M. Benson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Michael A. Benson, Michelle A. Sorensen and Mary D. Kofron, all of Janesville; her mother, Estella Day of Humboldt, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Marshall Day of Humboldt and a sister, Marcia Rinderknecht of Union City, Missouri.
Anita was preceded in death by her father and both of her husbands; a son, Samuel E. Benson; a grandson, Brian R. Benson; a brother, Jerry Day and a sister, Janice Koob.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 30, 1999 at the funeral home in Cedar Falls. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the family.

BENSON, ZELLA IRENE, 90, of Friendship Village, died Wednesday, May 17, at the care center of natural causes. She was born Feb. 3, 1910, in LeGrand, Iowa the daughter of Corwin and Kitty DeLong O'Neal. She married Karl Benson on Aug. 26, 1933, in LeGrand. He died May 8, 1976.
Mrs. Benson attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years, then graduated from the University of Iowa. She was employed at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., then taught elementary school in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Survivors include two sons, Don of Waterloo and Ted of Germany and Niceville, Florida, three grandchildren; and a brother, Earl O'Neal of Naperville, Illinois.
Preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Private services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2000 at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, with burial in the church cemetery. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village or the church.

BERCHER, VIRGINIA N. was born December 31, 1916 in Carthage, Illinois, the daughter or Elmer and Irma (Holst) Powell. She married William Bercher on July 11, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1987. Virginia was a 1938 graduate of the University of Illinois and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She taught elementary school and worked at an office in Chicago, Illinois. Virginia died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 82 years of age.
She is survived by her son, David W. Bercher of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her three grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin and Michaela Bercher; and her sister-in-law, Helen Cox of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 1999 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.

BERGMEIER, RYAN EUGENE, 31, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Dike, died Tuesday, May 27 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., from complication of Crohn's Disease.
Funeral service were held May 31 at 2 p.m. at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. Committal followed at the Hudson Cemetery after which family and friends were invited to the Hudson Community Center (City Hall).
He was born June 23, 1971, in Waterloo, son of Dean and Diana (Chevalier) Bergmeier. On May 1, 1999, he was united in marriage to Jennifer K. Buus at the First Baptist Church, Cedar Falls. They lived in Dike until April 2002 when they moved to Lee's Summit, Mo., and started their own business.
Ryan was educated in the Cedar Falls public schools, graduating in 1989. He earned degrees in architectural drafting and auto collision and repair from Hawkeye Community College.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Jennifer. He is also survived by his mother, Diana, his two sisters, Jennifer (with daughter Emma), Candace (with daughters Ashley and Lacey) of Cedar Falls, his grandmothers, Bernice (Jack) Bergmeier and Lonnie (Darrell) Chevalier, both of Hudson, his special Aunt Nola (Harold) Roeding and so many other aunts and uncles and cousins to whom he was close. Ryan is also missed by Jennifer's family who have welcomed him as a son and brother.
Ryan was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry, father, Dean, both grandfathers, Jack Bergmeier and Darrell Chevalier, and an uncle, Kenneth Bergmeier.
Memorials may be directed to the family in care of the funeral home.
Jennifer would like to thank family and friends for their prayers and thoughtfulness during Ryan's illness and passing.

BERGMAN, THEODORE “TED” ROOSEVELT was born October 15, 1907 on a farm in Grundy County, Iowa the son of Jacob & Susie (Meester) Bergman. He married Edna Claassen March 22, 1939 at Stout, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 9, 1968. He married Marian L. (McDowall) Kaiser November 17, 1984 at Strawberry Point, IA. Ted farmed for 45 years west of New Hartford, Iowa and then was a groundskeeper at U.N.I. for 10 years. He died Friday, February 21, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 95 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marian of Cedar Falls; one son, Dale W. (Peggy) Bergman of Hartland, WI; two daughters, Dorothy K. Roiseland of Waverly, IA and Lorna S. Burger of Littleton, CO; one stepson, Paul (Joy) Kaiser, Jr. of Shell Knob, MO; two stepdaughters, Marilyn (Don) Fredrick of Strawberry Point, IA and Marlene (Bud) Brown of Springfield, MO; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, ten step grandchildren, 22 step great grandchildren, 7 step great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Nevenhoven, and Rose Pothast. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Edna, one daughter, Nancy Bergman Schoeman, six brothers, Jake, Joe, Hillard, George, Andrew and William, four sisters, Johanna Miller, Martha Boelman, Henrietta Bergman and Ella Dreesman; and two son-in-laws, Donald Roiseland and Rolin Burger.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Orchard Hill Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel.

BETTS, DAVID was born April 6, 1953 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Richard and Annie (Muller) Betts. After two previous marriages, he married Marilyn E. Norpel on May 20, 1995 in Cedar Falls. David was an overhead crane operator at Weissman/O’Neal Steel for 29 years. He died Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home at the age of 49 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Waterloo; one son, Robert Lewis of Fairborn, Ohio; one daughter, Bobbie Jo Weekley of Oelwein, Iowa, four grandchildren, his parents, Richard and Annie Betts of Denver, Iowa; and his sister, Denise Pieper and her two children, Bryce & Nicole, of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
David was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and one sister, Deborah Betts.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family.

BEYER, RAYMOND C. , 74, of Sebring, Florida and formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home on Monday, June 7, 2004. He was born November 30, 1929 in Mt. Carmel, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Crescentia (Stangl) Beyer. He was a 1948 graduate of Carroll High School and served with the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. Ray married Alvina Bellinghausen on September 12, 1955 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maple River, Iowa. He was a U.S. Postal letter carrier in Cedar Falls for many years, retiring in 1989. Ray and Alvina raised nine children in Cedar Falls and moved to Sebring, Florida in 2002. There he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park, Florida.
Ray is survived by his wife, Alvina, of Sebring, Florida; three sons, Al (Ruthie) Beyer of Aspen, Colorado, Jim Beyer of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Bill (Stephanie) Beyer of Bluffton, South Carolina; six daughters, Donna (Bruce) Schadle of Hudson, Iowa, Deb (Jeff) Hoskins of Baxter, Iowa, Chris (Dan) Dennis of Holt, Missouri, Jane (Tim) Iversen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Rose (Tom) Beltran of Leucadia, California and Mary (Mike) Martin of Indian Trails, North Carolina; nineteen grandchildren and two brothers, Paul Beyer of Carroll, Iowa and Ed Beyer of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Louis, Lawrence, Alvin, Mike, Clarence, George, Joe and Robert, and five sisters, Irene, Evelyn, Louella, Loretta and Clara.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to Palmetto Health Hospice in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina or Lifepath Hospice in Sebring, Florida.
