Hobert Conley Jr.
Hobart G. "Gary" Conley Jr., 68, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Frank E. Philipp officiating. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Conley was born April 2, 1929, in Paintsville, Ky., the son of Hobart Sr. and Ethel (Preston) Conley. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He married Patricia A. Dennler. He was employed with Toller Drug Store. He then worked at St. Joseph Hospital and Marian Health Center for 33 years, where he was director of pharmacy for 22 years.

He was a member of SCORE and the Sioux City Pharmacy Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Scott and Roxanne of Cannon Falls, Minn.; two daughters, Nancy K. and her husband Jerry Vondrak and Laurie L. Conley, all of Sioux City; his mother of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother and his wife, Thomas M. and Gail of Chatham, N.J.; three grandchildren, Jamie and Michael Vondak and Joseph Conley; three step-grandchidlren, Jason, Elizabeth and Corey Wold; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Marie T. Conway
Marie T. Conway, 82, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Conway was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Anthony and Helen (Goscinski) Ruchala.

She married Clair T. Conway on April 27, 1941, in Sioux City. He died Aug. 4, 1992, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael of Sioux City and Thomas and his wife Prim of Chino Valley, Ariz.; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Richard Hrasky of Sioux City; two sisters, Sophie Leahy and Janet Wagner, both of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Lynn Fuchser, Ann Collins, Thomas and Ben Conway, Stephanie, Michael and Jeff Hrasky; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul and Leon McKnight, Ben and Tom Conway, Jeff and Mike Hrasky.

Ricky Fredericksen
Ricky E. Fredericksen, 43, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Urbandale. Burial will be in McDivitt Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Mr. Fredericksen was born Sept. 2, 1954, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Jean (Gamel) Fredericksen. He was employed as a concrete foreman with Irving F. Jensen Company in Sioux City. He retired in 1990 and moved to Urbandale four years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Luann; a son, Kirk of Elk Point, S.D.; a daughter, Jennifer Fredericksen of Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Melissa Neeson of Urbandale and Michelle Neeson of Burt, Iowa; his mother of Sioux City; three sisters, Beverly Myres and Cheryl Hansen, both of Sioux City and Connie Crum of South Sioux City; and five brothers, Ronald, Richard, Jerry and Robert, all of Sioux City and Randy of North Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Veronica E. Fries
Veronica E. Fries, 68, of Sioux City died Wednesday at her residence following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Edna M. Haupt
Edna Mae Haupt, 98, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home in Indianapolis.

Etta Heeger
Etta Heeger, 96, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Congregation Beth Shalom. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. There will be no vistation. Nelson-Berger Northside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Buena O. Huss
Buena O. "Sallye" Huss, 83, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Huss was born April 18, 1914, in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Nellie (DuVall) Wilson.

She married Julius Huss on Nov. 13, 1953, in Le Mars, Iowa. He died March 9, 1979, in Omaha, Neb. She came to Sioux City from Omaha in 1987.

Survivors include three brothers, Maurice A. Wilson of Bryant, S.D., C.R. "Kirk" Wilson of Boyden, Iowa and Gordon Wilson of Jefferson, S.D.; and four sisters, Ardith and her husband Raymond Nash of Sioux City, Wilma Haaga of Salina, Kan., Narda and her husband Gene Pohl of Louisville, Ky. and Maja Trigg of Collington Harbour, N.C.

Andrew Levering
Andrew "Andy" Levering, 70, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City and Dakota Dunes, died Tuesday at a Mesa hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be today in Mesa and burial will be Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Robert L. "Bobby" Olson, 46, of Dakota Dunes died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, in Sioux City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Olson was born Sept. 20, 1951, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur and Beth Olson. He graduated from Central High School in 1972.

He married Debra Huggenberger on Oct. 29, 1976, in South Sioux City. He was employed at Olson Cycle Center.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Sioux Cycle Club, where he was a past president.

Survivors include his wife; his parents of Sioux City; two sons, Steve and his wife Kelly of Houston, Texas and Jesse of Dakota Dunes; a brother, Scott of Sioux City; and two sisters and their husbands, Kathryn and Maurice Fjestad of Apple Valley, Minn. and Susan and Steven Ostendorf of Brunsville, Minn.

Pallbearers will be Mike Benson, Jesse, Scott and Steve Olson.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund or Hospice of Siouxland.

S. Gertrude Schreiber
S. Gertrude "Gertie" Schreiber, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor Frank J. Brady and the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Schreiber was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Muszyna, Poland, the daughter of Antonio and Mary (Tokarczyk) Bushek. The family came to the United States when she was a child.

She married Walter Schreiber on Aug. 21, 1932, in Sioux City. The couple owned and operated the Park Bowl Bowling Lanes, until his death on Feb. 16, 1964.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Bernie and Judy of Dakota Dunes; three daughters and their husbands, Blanche and Jim Goergen of Okoboji, Iowa, Connie and Larry Chapman of Dakota Dunes and Sharon and Max Godfrey of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren, Wally Schreiber, Rick, Bo and Jeff Goergen, Sherri Rossiter, Shelly Helmers, Randy, Gary, Matt, Dan, Ryan and Nick Godfrey, Lisa Marshall, Allison Beumler, Emily, Katherine and Anne Chapman and Joseph Happe; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Estelle Schroeder of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jolene Happe; a granddaughter, Tracy Schreiber; three brothers, Joe, John and Frank Bushek; and four sisters, Nellie, Gen, Mary and one in infancy.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Alzheiner's Association and Heelen High School.

Margaret Stanley
Margaret (Stoneburg) Stanley, 75 of Corona, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at the Life Care Center in Corona.

Graveside services were held at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in Riverside National Cemetery at Riverside, Calif.

Mrs. Stanley was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Sioux City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.A. Stoneburg.

She was a member of Corona United Methodist Church, the Women's Improvement Club, the Corona Norco Federation of Republican Women, the Corona Art Association and the Order of the Eastern Star in Sioux City. She enjoyed oil painting.

Survivors include a stepson and his wife, Robert Jr. and Gonna of Corona; a stepdaughter, Donna Murillo of Sonora, Calif.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Vanner Stoneburg and Bert Stoneburg and his wife Geraldine, all of Sioux City; two sisters, LaVerne Urwiler and her husband Harley of Laurel, Neb. and JoAnn and her husband Kenneth Huffman of Snohonish, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Dottie Stanley of Corona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ralph J. Higgins, 79, of Sioux City died Wednesday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Wayne E. Bjorklund
SPENCER, Iowa - Wayne Eugene Bjorklund, 76, of Spencer died Tuesday at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Pentecostal Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery at Albert City, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Nelson Bonnema
STEEN, Minn. - Nelson Benjamin Bonnema, 85, of Steen died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reformed Church in Steen, with the Rev. Dan Ramaker officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Hills, Minn.

Mr. Bonnema was born Sept. 24, 1912, near Maurice, Iowa, the son of George and Dena (Kleinwolterink) Bonnema. The family moved to Steen when he was a child. He graduated from District 1 Elementary School and attended Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City, Iowa for one year. He worked on various farms in the Steen area.

He married Minnie "Mickie" Keunen on Feb. 2, 1938, near Steen. The couple farmed in the Steen area for 42 years, retiring in 1980, and moved into Steen.

He was a member of Reformed Church, where he was an elder and taught Sunday School, and the Gideons International. He served as the clerk of District 1. He was involved in the M2 Program, prison ministries, at South Dakota State Penitentiary. He enjoyed music, singing and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Donald of Steen, Stanley and his wife Gloria of Richfield, Minn., Mark and his wife Eva of Federal Way, Wash. and Michael and his wife Jodie of Steen; two daughters, Beth Sakurai of Yokohama, Japan and Virginia "Ginger" and her husband Jim France of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Milton and his wife Cynthia and Arnold, all of Steen.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter; a sister, Kathleen Bonnema; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Ethel; and a son-in-law, Akira Sakurai.

Vivan Brugman
SPENCER, Iowa - Vivan Brugman, 85, of Spencer, formerly of Royal, Iowa, died Tuesday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. Burial will be in North Lawn Memorial Park at Spencer. There will be no vistation. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold C. Dendinger
HARTINGTON, Neb. - Harold Charles Dendinger, 89, of Hartington died Wednesday at the St. James Nursing Home in Yankton, S.D.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

George Hargroves
MAPLETON, Iowa - George William Hargroves, 80, of Mapleton died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Keith Hair officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hargroves was born July 2, 1917, near Grant Center, Iowa, the son of John William and Frances (Ultsch) Hargroves.

He married Reba La Reta Figley on March 6, 1946, in Dakota City. She died May 2, 1972. He then married Erma Doll on July 15, 1973, in Lewis, Iowa. He was employed as a mechanic at the Ford Garage and then for Simonsen's. He then worked at Great Plains Gas Company in Mapleton for 39 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Fridley, Minn. and Rex and his wife Barb of Holstein, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Larry Ingram of Sullivan, Ill.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Nancy and Keith Hair of Ida Grove, Iowa and Carol and Jim Hansen of Dent, Minn.; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three infant children.

William Kammeier
LE MARS, Iowa - William Kammeier, 89, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at The Abbey in Le Mars.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Steffens officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Johnson Township, rural Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Kammeier was born Jan. 14, 1908, near Merrill, the son of Henry and Wilhelmina (Kroemer) Kammeier. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Merrill High School.

He was employed with Swift Company in Sioux City and later with the Wilson packing house in Omaha, Neb. for several years. He moved to Le Mars in 1989. He enjoyed animals.

Survivors include a sister, Elsie Gilman of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.

LAWTON, Iowa - Loretta H. Kounkel-Peterson, 82, of Lawton died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

H. Norman Lenz
PAULLINA, Iowa - Heinrich Norman Lenz, 62, of Paullina died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland, Iowa, with the Rev. Gerald Zeman officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.

Mr. Lenz was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Donebach, Germany, the son of Heinrich and Marths (Beelner) Lenz. The family moved to the United States and the Paullina area when he was a child. He graduated from Paullina High School and attended Morningside College for two years. He married Elizabeth Klein.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1959 in Taiwan, returning to Paullina. He was employed with the Lenz Manufacturing.

He married Cynthia Larson Graff on Aug. 4, 1972, in Primghar, Iowa. The couple resided in Paullina, where he was employed at the Circle S.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Rebecca and her husband Ronald Welton and Melissa and her husband Patrick Potter, all of Omaha, Neb. and Erica Lenz of Paullina; three sons, Christopher Graff of Corpus Christi, Texas, Andrew Lenz of Austin, Texas and Robert and his wife Connie Lenz of Alton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; his mother of Paullina; a brother and his wife, Roland and Mary Lou of Hartley, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Meredith Lenz of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Arnold.

LESTER, Iowa - Encarnacion "Mimi" Amor Martin Verde, 87, of Lester died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Larchwood, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Raymond's Cemetery at Bronx, N.Y. Chapey and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the burial. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Larchwood.

Mabel A. McNear
WHITING, Iowa - Mabel Aleada McNear, 85, of Whiting died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Whiting Church of Christ, with Shawn Walden, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Mrs. McNear was born April 27, 1912, in rural Whiting, the daughter of Walter Charles and Minnie Mae (Gunsolley) Ross. She attended country school near Whiting.

She married Richard Robert McNear on Dec. 25, 1934, in Whiting. He died April 27, 1985, in Onawa. She was employed as a telephone operator in Whiting and as an aid at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City. She was also a housecleaner for various families in the Whiting area.

She was a member of Whiting Church of Christ and the Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Donna Jean and John Lee of Ogden, Utah and Mary Lou and Jerry Carritt of Onawa; a son, Richard of Storm Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Mae Ricks of Springfield, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, George.

Eleanor Te Krony
HULL, Iowa - Eleanor Te Krony, 69, of Hull died unexpectedly Wednesday at her residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Harold L. Thomson
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Harold L. Thomson, 72, of Ida Grove died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Thomson was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Ida Grove, the son of Jodie L. and Lillian B. (Clark) Thomson. He graduated from Arthur High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Lulu Clairbell Kneeland on Sept. 23, 1951, in Truman, Minn. He farmed in Ida County for 40 years and moved into Ida Grove 11 years ago.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Ida County Fair Board, the American Legion, the Rural Electric Co-op Board, the Ida Mutual Insurance Board and the United Methodist Board of Trustees.

Survivors include a son, Jerry of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Jon Lageschulte of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Daniel Wunschel, K'lyn, Abby and Angela Lageschulte; a sister and her husband, Mary Jane and Ed Witte of Schaller, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Connie Thomson of Ida Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Wayne.

Vicki Vander Veen
HARRIS, Iowa - Vicki Vander Veen, 34, of rural Harris died Wednesday at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Burial will be in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.

Richard G. Wavrin
MOVILLE, Iowa - Richard G. Wavrin, 52, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Moville, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cremation Society of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Private burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota.

Mr. Warvin was a graduate of Austin (Minn.) High School, the University of Minnesota, the Worsham School of Mortuary Science in Chicago, and received his doctorite from the University of Chicago.

He was a qualified Mortuary Diaster Coordinator and assisted in the set up of the disaster plan, two years before the plane accident in Sioux City. He was formerly employed with Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines, Clothier Funeral Home in Grand Marais, Minn., Phalen Park Funeral Home in St. Paul, Minn., Maple Oaks Funeral Home in Maplewood, Minn., and owned his own funeral home in Moville. He was presently employed with Rainbow Foods. He enjoyed jogging and astronomy.

Survivors include by Dorothy Burgau.

Memorials are preferred.
