Trudy K. Brown
Trudy K. Brown, 55, of Sioux City died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital of cancer.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Sister Mary Helen, O.C.D.
Sister Mary Helen of the Heart of Jesus, 71, a Carmelite Nun, of Sioux City died at a Sioux City hospital after being stricken at the Carmelite Monastery.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carmelite Monastery. The Most Rev. Lawrence D. Soens will be the main celebrant and Homilist. The Most Rev. Daniel N. DiNardo, the Rev. Gerald Hartz, the Rev. Patrick O'Kane, the Rev. Roger Linnan, the Rev. Richard Sitzmann, the Rev. Boneventure Sauer, the Rev. Bernard Sheenan and other priests present will con-celebrate.

Burial will be in the Carmelite Cemetery under the direction of the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with rosaries said by Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Michael Parish and Sacred Heart Parish at 2 p.m.; the Cathedral Parish, St. Boniface and St. Joseph Parish at 3 p.m.; Immaculate Conception Parish, Nativity Parish, St. Francis Parish and St. Casimir Parish at 7 p.m., all at the Carmelite Monastery.

Visitation will resume from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the Evening Office of the Dead to be said at 4 p.m. and the Carmelite Guild and the Carmelite Nuns will do the Office of Readings for the Deceased at 7:30 p.m., at the Carmelite Monastery.

Sister Mary Helen, the former Helen Ryder, was born May 8, 1926, in Rock Island, Ill., the daughter of Harry C. and Anna (Grota) Ryder. She was raised in Rock Island.

She entered the Order of Discalced Carmelites in 1946, in Bettendorf, Iowa. She received her habit and made her first profession of Vows on April 27, 1947. She came to the Carmelite Monastery of Our Lady of the Incarnation in Sioux City in 1973.

Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Chester and Lorraine Ryder of Davenport, Iowa and Darwin and Katherine Ryder of Joliet, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Marge Ryder of Moline, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold and an infant sister, Virginia.

Ervin A. Palmer
Ervin A. Palmer, 82, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Church of North America in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Clyde Pritchett officiating. There will be no visitation. Becker-Hunt Funeral Home of South Sioux City is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Palmer was born April 3, 1915, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Charles O. and Mary (Wilcox) Palmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his twin brother owned and operated the Nebraska House Movers Company in South Sioux City for 65 years.

He married Ruth N. Wilson on May 21, 1973, in Ponca, Neb.

Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Arlene and her husband Wendell O'Brien of Greeneville, Tenn. and Bonnie Krumwiede of South Sioux City; a stepson and his wife, Al and Garnet Palmer of Oak Grove, Mo.; two brothers, Forrest of Washinton and Howard of Idaho; three sisters, Opal Petersen of Cherokee, Iowa, Ann Davis of Concord, Iowa and Elda Carlsen of Kent, Wash.; eight step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ernie and two sisters, Mildred and Gladys.

Pauline Wynn
Pauline Wynn, 69, of Sioux City died Sunday at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery at Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daniel F. Arthur, 58, of Sioux City died Monday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Emil Kliment, 72, of Sioux City died Monday; Berkemier Funeral Home.

Loretta Odelia Nofrey, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Stella Davis
SHELDON, Iowa - Stella Mulhern Davis, 76, of Sheldon died Sunday at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a St. Patrick's Guild rosary at 7 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Louis Fixsel
PIERSON, Iowa - Louis Fixsel, 87, of Pierson died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pierson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Pals officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa.

Mr. Fixsel was born April 29, 1910, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Fred and Kate (Sheffield) Fixsel. He was baptized in the Methodist faith and raised in the Rock Branch, Iowa area.

He married Opal Davis on Jan. 26, 1935, in Sioux City. The couple moved to the Pierson area, where they farmed until retiring.

He was a past director of the Pierson Elevator Board and past member of the township committee for the ASC.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Daryl and Sandra of Correctionville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Debra Wilcox, Denyse Miester and Joleen Fixsel; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Edna Brune of Correctionville and Ada Denlinger of Remsen, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray and a sister, Eva.

Tom Gaalswyk
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Tom Gaalswyk, 75, of Rock Valley died Sunday at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Orvie G. Knobloch
ALVORD, Iowa - Orvie Gene Knobloch, 63, of Alvord died Sunday at the Valley Manor in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Iowa. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall. Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold E. Lang
LE MARS, Iowa - Harold Edward Lang, 86, of Le Mars died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Boykin officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Lang was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Stanton Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Christian F. and Ida (Heimgartner) Lang. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He married Louise Schoenrock on May 29, 1935, in rural Hinton. The couple farmed in Stanton Township until retiring in 1980, when they moved to Le Mars. She died Jan. 16, 1997.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Neva and Noel Fries of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, Kendall and David of Le Mars and Daniel and Sue of Merrill, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Nancy Martis, Nicki Fries, Natalie Archambault and Noel Fries; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lydia Ladenthin of Le Mars; and a brother and his wife, Don and Lois Lang of Hinton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Eldon; and two sisters, Alvina DeRaad and Laura Lang in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Doug, Curtis and Phil Schoenrock, Tim and Cliff Lang and Warren Lahrs.

Mary Ann Pilus
BLENCOE, Iowa - Mary Ann Pilus, 83, of Blencoe died Monday at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Cemetery at Omaha, Neb. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Ada M. Willer
MOVILLE, Iowa - Ada Morene Willer, 96, of Moville died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Moville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville.
