Carl L. Lundgren
Carl L. Lundgren, 64, of Sioux City died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in McCook Cemetery, with the Rev. Merrill Muller, pastor of Riverside United Methodist Church, officiating. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Berkemier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Lundgren was born Oct. 11, 1933, in Hinton, Iowa, the son of Victor and Rena (Harper) Lundgren. He was raised and educated in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed in the construction business.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Rick and Jan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Randy and Melanie of Jacksonville, Fla., Reese and Patty of Tacoma, Wash., and Anthony and Colleen of Sioux City; two daughters, Carla Dean of Alliance, Ohio and Lois Grimes of North Sioux City; three brothers, George of Newkirk, Okla., Lester and his wife Boots of Turlock, Calif. and Charles and his wife Sue of Cascade, Mont.; three sisters, Jeanette Amble of Sioux City, Alice and her husband Ken Pedersen of Emerson, Neb. and Carol and her husband Eldon Rayvick of Soldier, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marlene Lundgren of Sheldon, Iowa; a brother-in-law, William Benson of Sioux City; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Betty J. Matney
Betty J. Matney, 72, of South Sioux City died Tuesday at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present after 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gaile B. Boyer
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Gaile B. Boyer, 62, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Hawarden, died in Minneapolis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary in Minneapolis. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one half hour before the services at the funeral home.

Mr. Boyer was born in Hawarden. He was employed with Health Partners Material Management. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat"; a son, Michael; two daughters, Sara and Alicia; his father, Ladru; three grandchildren, Jesse, Alexzandra and Eric; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Harold J. Frerichs
LE MARS, Iowa - Harold John Frerichs, 87, of Le Mars, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at The Abbey in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery at Craig, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Mr. Frerichs was born Sept. 23, 1910, in rural Plymouth County, the son of Fred and Katherine (Weyn) Frerichs. He farmed and work on the railroad. In 1941, he began working for Swift and Company in Sioux City, retiring in 1975.

He married Alice Marie Renken on Feb. 16, 1938, in Lincoln, Neb. In 1994, the couple moved to Le Mars. She died May 21, 1996. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and cooking.

Survivors include a son and his wife, James and Karen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers and their wives, Lyle and Myrna and Luverne "Bud" and Sally, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Ruth Devall of Jefferson, Ind.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Schmidt.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.

William Hansen
CROFTON, Neb. - William "Bill" Eugene Hansen, 32, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Crofton, died Monday in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. The body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton.

Joyce Haspels
HOSPERS, Iowa - Joyce (Vander Schaaf) Van Zanten Haspels, 72, formerly of Hospers died Sunday at the Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson, Kan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Vander Ploeg Chapel of Hospers is in charge of the arrangements.

Lee Holt
SPENCER, Iowa - Leander "Lee" Warren Holt, 88, former Iowa State Senator, of Spencer died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, at the Warner Funeral Home of Spencer.

Mr. Holt was born Aug. 30, 1909, in Earlville, Ill., the son of Peter and Anna (Edwards) Holt. He moved with his family to a farm near Ottosen, Iowa. He graduated from Ottosen High School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. In 1935, he was employed by the Iowa House of Representatives in the 46th General Assembly.

He married Dorothy VanBuskirk on June 27, 1937, in Ottosen.

He served as the State Drivers License Examiner for many years and as a member of the Iowa Highway State Patrol. In 1946, he resigned from the State Patrol, and entered the automobile business. In 1946, he purchased an automobile dealership, Lee Holt Motors. Time magazine named him Quality Auto Dealer for Iowa in 1972. He also served as president of the Iowa Automobile Dealers for one year.

In 1982, he was elected to the Iowa Senate, having previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives for four years. He served six years in the Senate before retiring from legislative duties. He served on the board of the Lutheran Home Finding Society in Fort Dodge, Iowa, was appointed as director of the Iowa Safety Congress and was president and chairman of the board of directors for St. Luke Lutheran Home for 30 years. He served as chairman of the Revenue Committee for the Spencer Centennial and was named Spencer Citizen of the Year in 1977. He served on the Legislative Council for the Iowa American Association of Retired Persons.

He served as chairman of the Board of Fellows for Augustana College in Sioux Falls, on the advisory council for Iowa Lakes Community College, and the state Board of Vocational Education Advisory Council. He received the Northwood Instutite Award for support of education.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, where he served as an officer, the Chamber of Commerce, the Spencer Industries board, the Spencer Rotary and the Golden K. He was a member of the Steering Committee, which raised funding for the Spencer Cancer Unit. He was appointed to the State Judicial Nominating Commission by Gov. Branstad.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, John and Marla of Marquette, Mich.; two daughters and their husbands, Sondra and Harry Blake of Tiburon, Calif. and Barbara Holt and Duane Roasmann of Conroe, Texas; eight grandchildren, Eric, Alec, Karl, Laura, Tyler, Sam, Anna and Rebecca; and three sisters, Alma Daniel of Ottosen, Gladys Jacobs of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Mavis and her husband Paul Espinosa of Mason City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to either the Abben Cancer Center, Lee Holt Center for Adult Day Services or the St. Luke Lutheran Home.

Alvina Langholz
MAPLETON, Iowa - Alvina Langholz, 93, of Mapleton died Tuesday in Denver, Colo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Milton Offerdahl
BERESFORD, S.D. - Milton Offerdahl, 75, of Beresford died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Private burial services will be held prior to the service. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Wass Funeral Home of Beresford.

Mr. Offerdahl was born April 12, 1922, near Beresford. He attended Hillswood Rural School near Beresford.

He married Adell Hanson on June 30, 1943, in rural Beresford. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. The couple farmed in the Beresford area until retiring in 1997, and moved into Beresford.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Maryls and Duane Clay of Beresford and Carol and Chuck Garvin of Le Mars, Iowa; six grandchildren; a brother, Merle of Vermillion, S.D.; and a sister and her husband, Violet and Herbert Fickbohm of Vermillion.

Maxine L. Schieuer
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Maxine L. Schieuer, 77, of Kingsley died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. James Fangman officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley.

Miss Schieuer was born Jan. 9, 1920, in rural Moville, the daughter of Chris F. and Agnes (Scheelhaase) Schieuer. She attended school at Moville Township District 7. She then entered the convent in Dubuque, Iowa, but was released because of health reasons. She was employed as a housekeeper for many priests throughout Iowa until retiring.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Michael's Guild.

Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Roy and Dorothy of Kingsley and Kenneth and Loretta of Anthon, Iowa; three sisters, Emma Kuhn of Kingsley, Lillian Rogers of Moville and Vera Klemmensen of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mae Hackett and Vesta Schieuer; four brothers, Fred, Harry, Harold and Merton; and four brothers-in-law.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Henry C. Schomaker
LINN GROVE, Iowa - Henry Clair Schomaker, 77, of Linn Grove died Tuesday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. Burial will be in Barnes Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Lucille Schwarz
LE MARS, Iowa - Lucille L. Schwarz, 73, of Le Mars died Tuesday at the Fonda Care Center in Fonda, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
