Ronald E. Olson
Ronald E. Olson, 65, Pueblo, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday at his residence following a lenghty illness.

The body will be cremated.

James R. McNaughton
James R. McNaughton, 63, of Dakota City died Monday at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present after 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Anna M. Gerlach
Anna Marie Gerlach, 83, of Greenville, N.C., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at her residence.

Services will be Thursday, April 16, 1998, at St. Mary's Church in Freeport, Ill. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Freeport.

Mrs. Gerlach was born Dec. 12, 1914, near Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Laura (Menard) Low.

She married Harold W. Gerlach in 1935, in Sioux City. In 1960, the couple moved to Freeport, Ill. He died in 1995.

She had suffered with Alzheimer's Disease for five years.

Survivors include two sons, Fr. John Harold of Springfield, Ill., and Howard and his wife, Carole, of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters and their husbands, Lorie and Michael Ehlbeck, with whom she lived, of Greenville, N.C., Telly and Vincent Marino of Reston, Va., and Jean and Daniel Raih of Cambridge, Mass.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Pearl and Eachel Tierno, both of Tracy, Calif.

Bruce E. Donahue
Bruce Edward Donahue, 67, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at his residence following a brief illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Rasmussen, pastor of Church on the Way, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Donahue was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Laurel, Neb., the son of Edward and Esther (Bruce) Donahue. He moved with his family to Sioux City as a child. He graduated from Central High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Janice R. Laymon on Jan. 1, 1963, in Elk Point, S.D. She died Oct. 7, 1990, in Sioux City.

Mr. Donahue was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad and then with St. Joseph and Marian Health Center, retiring after 27 years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 77. He was active in the Democrat Party and did volunteer work and fed the homeless.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Steven John and Johanna of Hollywood, Fla., Robert James and Lynn of Greenwood, Neb., and David Joseph and Janey of Tulsa, Okla.; his mother of Sioux City; two brothers, Roger and Gary and his wife, Marjee, all of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Mary Lee and Jim Conlon of Sergeant Bluff and Kay and Don Undine of St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Ian S., Katelyn Jo, Matthew J. and Sara J.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Robert John; and a sister, Jeanine Donahue.

Pallbearers will be Joe, Mike and Dan Conlon, Donald Undine, Donald "Doc" Berens and Gary Moss.

George Olson Jr.
George L. Olson Jr., 68, of Sioux City died Saturday at his residence following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a Masonic service at 7 p.m. followed by an Order of the Eastern Star service, at the funeral home.

Donald H. Hafits
Donald H. Hafits, 71, of Sioux City died of cancer Sunday, April 5, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Greving and the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. The body will be cremated. Visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Hafits was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Margaret (Dik) Hafits. He graduated from East High School.

He married Theresa Whelan on July 8, 1946, in Sioux City.

He was employed with Continental Baking Company for more than 30 years, until 1980. He then worked for the Western Hills Area Education Agency until retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Teamster Union Local 383, where he served on the Executive Board and was vice president. He was a political activist at the local, state and federal levels. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Moose, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 77 and the Meadows Country Club in Moville, Iowa.

He enjoyed golfing and sports. He pitched semi-professional baseball in Siouxland. He also coached baseball from Little League to American Legion ranks.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia and her husband, Jack Hanson, of Pocahontas, Iowa and Theresa Card of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Debra of Sioux City and Dan and Loann of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Lorraine Foster of Roseburg, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin E.

Pallbearers will be Tom Dik, Dennis Donovan, Dennis Luft, Barry Delaney, Robert Hanson and Marty Gubbels.

Memorials in his name may be directed to the Mater Dei Schools.

HULL, Iowa - Michael R. Brown, 20, of Hull died Sunday at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Hull. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with the fmaily present from 6 to 8 p.m., at American Reformed Church in Hull. Oolman Funeral Home of Hull is in charge of the arrangements.

Harlen Mitchell
LAKE PARK, Iowa - Harlen Mitchell, 78, of Lake Park died Sunday at a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Lake Park. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 371 of Lake Park. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service conducted by Silver Lake Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m., at the Turner Funeral Home in Lake Park.

Eunice Vandeberg
SHELDON, Iowa - Eunice Vandeberg, 90, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Sheldon, died Friday at Rex Convalescent Care Center in Raleigh.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Lena Conry
WASHTA, Iowa - Lena "Slim" Conry, 91, of Washta died Monday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., at Washta United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sunset View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Evelyn Brechler
WEBB, Iowa - Evelyn Brechler, 77, of Webb died Sunday at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rush Lake Cemetery at Curlew, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Wayne R. Butler
ONAWA, Iowa - Wayne Reed Butler, 94, of Onawa died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, with the Rev. David H. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Butler was born Nov. 3, 1903, in rural Monona County, the son of Richard James and Mary Ann (Reed) Butler. He attended Onawa schools.

He married Viola Heller on Jan. 14, 1928, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in rural Onawa, where he farmed. They later moved into Onawa. He retired in 1965. She died Nov. 7, 1987, in Sioux City.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gloria Jean and Mike Larsen of Marshalltown, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Dorris Warwick of Canton, Ga.; six grandchildren, Roger Butler, Marrie David, Jill Hay and Kent, Sheri and Julie Larsen; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Wayne; and a sister, Arnot Arndt.

Kenneth L. "Metty" Metcalf
Kenneth L. "Metty" Metcalf, 83, of Hornick, Iowa, died Monday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home of Sioux City.
