Robert Watts
Robert Watts, 70, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mr. Watts was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Climbing Hill, Iowa. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City public schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947, and was involved in the Bikini Island/Crossroad Atomic Bomb tests. Following his discharge, he returned to Sioux City.

He married Caroline "Kay" Klemish on Jan. 31, 1948, in Salix. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He was employed as a custodial engineer with the Sioux City Public School District, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, American Legion Monahan Post 64, National Association of Radiation Survivors, American Rabbit Breeders, where he was a registrar, Iowa and South Dakota State Rabbit Breeders Associations and a charter member of Western Rabbit Breeders Association. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Bob and Edna of Sioux City and Bill and Mary of North Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Rita and Wayne Merrill of Sioux City; a sister; four brothers; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Haldin, Jason, Greg, Christine and Julie Merrill, Mindi, Bill Lee, Rob and Jenny Watts, Danielle and Dan Knight; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Margaret Watts; a son, David; two brothers and two infant sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Lisa Haldin, Rob, Mindi and Bill Lee Watts, Jason and Greg Merrill.

Julia J. Schunck
Julia J. Schunck, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dr. Gerald Chicoine
Dr. Gerald A. Chicoine, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday at his residence.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Eldon D. McCuddin
Eldon D. McCuddin, 66, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. McCuddin was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Orville and Leona (Junck) McCuddin. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Leeds High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

He married Delores Perry on Jan. 4, 1958, in Sioux City. He was employed with Thermo King of Iowa from 1963 to 1981. He owned and operated Mobile Fleet Service for a few years. He then worked for Waldbaum's in Wakefield, Neb. He later did apartment maintenance for various apartment complexes in Sioux City.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Triangle Masonic Lodge 643 A.F. & A.M., where he was a past master, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine, American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton, Iowa, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973. He was a past president of Vintage Wheel, Leeds Community Club and Siouxland Antique Car Club and a past patron of Azure Chapter 540 of Order of the Eastern Star. He was a hospital dad driver for the children of Shrine Hospital.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Mark and Vicki of Sioux City, Jeff and Angela of Sheldon, Iowa, and Bryan and Brenda of Holmen, Wis.; a daughter, Pam Schlotzhauer of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Waldo and Carol of Des Moines; three sisters, Bev Buddi, Marilyn and her husband, Tom Beller, and Darlene Mercural, all of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or Abu Bekr Childrens Hospital Fund.

Paul V. Carlson
Paul V. Carlson, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Private burial will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Bernice A. Zajecka
Bernice A. Zajecka, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Moringside Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., a rosary at 6:30 p.m. said by St. Casimir Rosary Society and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Grace Lauck
Grace Lauck, 96, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in River View Cemetery, Rock Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lauck was born June 15, 1902, in Brewster, Minn., the daughter of Klaus and Cornelia (Diken) Boomgarden. She was raised in rural Brewster and attended country school.

She married Henry W. Lauck. The couple moved to Lester, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1948. He died in 1969, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Melvin Claussen of Sioux City; a grandson, Jeffrey Claussen; two granddaughters, Sheryl Claussen and Sheila McQuerry; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace V. Claussen, six brothers and a sister.

Douglas B. Mace
Douglas Brett Mace, infant son of Nicolle and Douglas Mace of Sioux City, was stillborn Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mildred E. Smith
Mildred E. Smith, 89, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will resume until 8:30 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born July 23, 1909, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of John H. and Belle (Nelson) Stull.

She married Alfred Bert Smith on Sept. 16, 1933, in South Dakota. He died Feb. 28, 1996, in South Sioux City. She was employed as a postal clerk in Allen, Neb., for several years.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Court Mary Our Queen Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include four sons, Frederick Thomas and his wife, Carole, of Green Mountain Falls, Colo., Richard Bert and his wife, Bea, of Dakota City, Larry Edwin of South Sioux City and Joseph and his wife, Lilly of Allen; six daughters, Mildred and her husband, Ken Kruse of Des Moines, Mary and her husband, Ronald Meier of Richfield, Minn., Betty J. Smith of South Sioux City, Laurabel and her husband, Gerald Stewart, of Waterbury, Neb., Virginia and her husband, Rick Vomacka of Mogadore, Ohio, and Susan and her husband, Daniel Hickman, of Fonda, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Carroll; two brothers, John Kenneth and Carroll D. Stull; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jerry, Steven, Rick and Troy Stewart, David Kruse and Joe Vomacka.

Jiles F. Barbee Sr.
Jiles F. "Joe" Barbee Sr., 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Kretzschmar of Whitfield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Barbee was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Barnett, Mo., the son of Hillery and Lydia (Stark) Barbee.

He married Alvina Smith on Oct. 19, 1940, in Jefferson City, Mo. The couple had lived in Sioux City for 52 years. He was employed with various meat packing companies and retired from Armour and Co. after 27 years. He then purchased the Scandia Tap, retiring at age 62.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as secretary/treasurer of Sioux Quality Credit Union.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jiles F. "Sonny" Jr., William H. and his wife, Julie, all of Sioux City, Gary M. and his wife, Kristi of Salix, Iowa, and Robert M. and his wife, Sue, of Beecher, Ill.; five daughters, Rose Ann and her husband, Jerry Mayo, Martha M. and her husband, Donn Schultz, and Marjie M. Burke, all of Sioux City, Marie C. and her husband, Kelly Schneider, of Temple, Texas, and Marion F. and her husband, Richard Brouillette of Bartlett, Ill.; a brother, Bill of Witchita, Kan.; six sisters, Pauline Miller of Dinuba, Calif., Bonnie Kempker, Juanita Dinwiddie and Ilene Dinwiddie, all of Eldon, Mo., Grace Rains of Columbia, Mo., and Ils Sweet of Sac, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky; a daughter, Beverly Berbee; a sister, Della Keith; and a brother, Hillery Jr.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kevin and Jason Barbee, Richard Brouillette Jr., Kelly Schneider Jr., Gerald L. Mayo Jr. and Peter Moore II.

Marjorie L. Larsen, 91, of Sioux City died Thursday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Erna Schoelermann
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa Erna Schoelermann, 83, of Rock Valley died Thursday at the Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton, S.D.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center, Iowa. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Orlan R. Fouts
BATTLE CREEK, Iowa Orlan R. Fouts, 91, of Battle Creek died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, with the Rev. Daniel Torkelson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mr. Fouts was born July 7, 1907, in Battle Creek, the son of Jacob and Emma (Dettling) Fouts.

He married Fern Baumann on Oct. 9, 1929, in Battle Creek. He was a self-employed truck driver, farmed and did custom grinding.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee and custodian. He enjoyed playing bingo and mowing.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Melvin Willer and Doris and Gerald Miller, all of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Ronald; three brothers; and two sisters.

Kurt A. Meier
MAPLETON, Iowa Kurt Allen Meier, 45, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton, died Wednesday at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt.

Deane Oelrich
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Deane Oelrich, 96, of Orange City died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial will be prior to the service in West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Oelrich was born July 26, 1902, in Geervliet, The Netherlands, the daughter of Jacob and Dorothy (Vander Hoor) Febus. She moved to the United States with her family at the age of 2. They settled in Orange City, where she attended the Christian school.

She married Clarence E. Oelrich on Feb. 4, 1925, in Orange City. The couple made their home in Orange City, where they operated Oelrich Dairy. He died June 14, 1952, in Orange City. She entered the Heritage House Nursing Home in January 1996.

She was a member of American Reformed Church, Esther Circle and other womens organizations. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing cards.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Patricia and Paul Muyskens of Orange City; a son and his wife, George and Linda of Plainfield, Ill.; two granddaughters, Paula Gagne and Debra Adams; and five great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Lorraine Oelrich; three sisters, Min Febus, Audrey Mintz and Irene Dirks; and an infant brother.

Steven L. Pomerenke
SHELDON, Iowa - Steven Lee Pomerenke, 27, of Sheldon died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Service.

Mr. Pomerenke was born Jan. 15, 1971, in Sheldon, the son of Jerry and Carol (Reimers) Pomerenke. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1989 and attended Iowa Lakes Community College for two years majoring in criminal justice.

He was a member of First Reformed Church and enjoyed playing cards and watching wrestling.

Survivors include his mother of Sheldon; his father and his special friend, Jan Verrips, of Ashton, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Michelle and Jeffrey Bedier of Des Moines; and his grandparents, Vern and Harriet Reimers of Boyden, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Viola Pomerenke.

Pallbearers will be Larry Christians, Kevin Johnson, Ray Harpenau, Dan McCabe, Tim Jones and Shane Pomerenke.

Grant H. Jensen
VIBORG, S.D. - Grant H. Jensen, 90, of Viborg died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, S.D., with the Rev. James Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Viborg. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Mr. Jensen was born May 2, 1908, in rural Viborg. He married Anna "Annie" Johnson on Jan. 14, 1930.

He was a lifelong farmer and livestock feeder in Yankton County, S.D. He retired and moved to Irene in 1970. He entered the Pioneer Villa in Viborg in 1994, and moved to Pioneer Nursing Home in May 1997.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he held various offices, Yankton County Feeders and Growers Association and South Dakota Livestock Feeders Association. He served on the school and township boards.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Ray E. and Julie of Aquilla, Texas, and Keith L. and Audrey of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three daughters and their husbands, Norma Jeanne and Ray Skogen of Sioux City, Grace and Harold Holm II of Racine, Wis., and Marilyn and Bill Greulich of Apple Valley, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Kenneth C. Thornhill
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Kenneth C. Thornhill, 78, of Ida Grove died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. John Schauer and the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery, with miltiary rites conducted by the American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mr. Thornhill was born March 11, 1920, in Ida Grove, the son of Edward and Elsie (Branscom) Thornhill. He was raised and received his education in Ida Grove, graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. Following the war, he served in the Army National Guard.

He married Florence Endrulat on Sept. 16, 1944, in Petersburg, Va. The couple lived in Des Moines and then Ida Grove for 20 years. He was employed with Ida Public Service and was transferred to Cherokee, Iowa. She died in 1985. He returned to Ida Grove.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sherry and Lynn Hansen of Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Nicole and Chad Hansen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Loraine Thornhill, Louella Mae Neville and Evadine Parker; two brothers, Vernon "Pete" and Virgil; and a sister-in-law, Florence Thornhill.

Elda R. Fallan
VERMILLION, S.D. - Elda R. Fallan, 83, of Vermillion died Wednesday at the Dakota Care Center in Vermillion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran "Danish" Cemetery, rural Gayville, S.D. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion.

Arlo Tate
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Arlo Lathrop Tate, 87, of Spirit Lake died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will be at 12:45 p.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Tate was born April 1, 1911, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Albert and Lois (Lathrop) Tate. He attended school and graduated in Rossie, Iowa.

He married Elsie Fields on May 21, 1939, in Royal, Iowa. The couple farmed near Rossie until moving to Spirit Lake in 1974. She died in 1986.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Ellen and John Sundblad of Polk City, Iowa, and Nancy and David Toering of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Sundblad, Heidi Bokma, Shane Toering and Natalie Christians; five great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Beryl and Mel Moser of Spencer.

Pallbearers will be Karl Baisch, Shane Toering, Kirby and Lowell Fields, Bob Nelson and Lowell Wade.

Memorials may be directed to Rossie United Church of Christ or Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Paramedics.

Sally A. Berglund
LARRABEE, Iowa - Sally Ann Berglund, 71, of Larrabee died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. Timothy Schott officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mrs. Berglund was born May 1, 1927, in Cherokee, the daughter of Dr. R.V. and Melba (Jacobberger) Hanlon. She attended Immaculate Conception and Cherokee Public Schools, graduating from Wilson High School in 1945. She attended Creighton University for one year.

She married Kenneth Berglund on Dec. 27, 1947, in Cherokee. The couple farmed near Larrabee for many years.

She was an election booth worker and active in the Democratic Party. She also did bookkeeping and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jim and his wife, Linda, of Merrill, Iowa, John of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jerry and his wife, Julie, of Cherokee; three daughters and their husbands, Jean and Patrick Mohr of Galva, Iowa, Janice and John Small of Watertown, S.D., and Julie and Curt Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her mother of Marcus, Iowa; and a sister and her husband, Mary and Joe Carroll of Spencer, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Winston W. Hansen
BATTLE CREEK, Iowa - Winston W. Hansen, 81, of Battle Creek died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, with the Rev. Daniel Torkelson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Mr. Hansen was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Battle Creek, the son of William Peter and Mabel (Pedersen) Hansen. He attended country school and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1934.

He married Edna D. Sands on March 19, 1939, in Battle Creek. He farmed in the Battle Creek area and was the owner and operator of Hansen Truck Service.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a volunteer with the Battle Creek Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Corliss H. Wheeler of Montrose, S.D.; a son and his wife, Winston W. and JoAnn of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren, Chad and Katherine Kaddatz and William C. and Kristina Hansen; and a brother, Donald W. of Pocahontas, Iowa.

Mabel Jensen
BERESFORD, S.D. - Mabel Jensen, 95, of Beresford died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at the Bethesda Nursing Nursing Home in Beresford.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Burial will be in Beresford City Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.

Mrs. Jensen was born Oct. 10, 1902, in Clay County, S.D., the daughter of Nels and Catherine (Graverson) Steenholdt. She attended the Newdale School.

She married Richard Jensen on July 6, 1920. The couple farmed in the Beresford area until 1954, when they retired and moved into Beresford. She was employed with IGA Store in Beresford for 15 years. He died in 1969.

She was a charter member of Beresford Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Senior Citizens. She was a member of Royal Neighbors, Rockfield St. Paul Lutheran, Nazareth and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on league teams.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Ervin and Joyce of Beresford; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Jensen of Beresford; a son-in-law, Leonard Uecker of Beresford; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Willard; a daughter, Marjorie; three grandchildren, Linda, Gerald and Larry Uecker; three brothers; and a sister.

Nettiel V. Greenleaf
AKRON, Iowa - Nettiel V. "Nettie" Greenleaf, 85, of Sioux City, formerly of Dakota City and Akron, died Thursday at the Matney Westside Manor in Sioux City following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Mary Jo Huisman, 21, of Rock Rapids died Thursday at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the church fellowship hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Barbara Clasen, 44, of Rock Rapids died Wednesday at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a family rosary at 7 p.m., a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary service, at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Iver R. Johnson
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Iver R. Johnson, 88, of Sioux City, formerly of Grand Meadows and Kingsley area, died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be in Grand Meadows Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa, with a Masonic service conducted by the Cosmos Lodge 470 A.F. & A.M. of Kingsley. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Gerald Hatting
ASHTON, Iowa - Gerald "Jerry" Hatting, 62, of Ashton died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Tomithy J. Hogan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home of Ashton.

Mr. Hatting was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Ashton, the son of August and Marie E. (Stoltz) Hatting. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Germany for 18 months.

He married Lorna Lechtenberg on Sept. 26, 1959, in Granville, Iowa. The couple made their home near Ashton, where they farmed. He also worked for Ashton Tile Plant and Sheldon Farm Service. He was presently employed at Maintainer in Sheldon, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Tim and Sheila of Hospers, Iowa, and Dan and Tammy of Sioux City; three daughters, Kathy and her husband, Wade Guthrie of Houston, Texas, Judy and her husband, Dennis Wallace, of Sheldon and Lori Hatting of Sheldon; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Christopher, Jessica and Marissa Hatting, Jordon and Connor Guthrie, Kelsey and Alexa Wallace; his mother of Sibley, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Jim and Rosie of Ashton; his mother-in-law, Cleo Lechtenmberg of Granville; two sisters-in-law, Norma Schuster of Le Mars, Iowa, and Georgia and Donald Becker of Hospers; and five brothers-in-law, Orville Schuster of Le Mars, Jim and his wife, Cari Lechtenberg of Le Mars, Orville and his wife, Mary Pottebaum of Alton, Iowa, Jeff and his wife, Janet Zwagerman of Sibley and Gordon and his wife, Bernice Schnieder of Granville.

He was preceded in death by his father; his father-in-law, Leo Lechtenberg; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Lechtenberg.

Laryl Heitritter
HULL, Iowa - Laryl "Joe" Heitritter, 60, of rural Hull died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden, Iowa, with the Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at First Reformed Church in Boyden. Arrangements are under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Boyden.

Mr. Heitritter was born June 12, 1938, in Hull, the son of Lewis and Marie (Bosman) Heitritter. He attended country schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1955.

He married Sharon Meester on Dec. 26, 1959, in George, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Boyden area until moving to a farm near Hull.

He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. He was a Sheridan Township turstee for Sioux County, Iowa, and served on the board of Boyden Co-op Elevator. He enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Steven and Laura of Boyden, Keith and Tracey of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Joel and Connie of Hull; six grandchildren, Paul, Joey, Emma, Jonathan, Jake and Thomas; and two brothers, Ronald and his wife, Lynn, of Wayzata, Minn., and Merwin of Boyden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joyce E. Boyer
SLOAN, Iowa - Joyce E. Boyer, 85, of Sloan died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald J. Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan.

Mrs. Boyer was born Oct. 22, 1912, in rural Sloan, the daughter of James Henry and Clara (Brandstatter) Hall. She was raised in the Sloan area. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Ariz.

She entered the Precious Blood Sisters of Dayton, Ohio, where she remained form nine years and was known as Sister Mary Jamesine.

She began teaching in Phoenix. Later she taught in Climbing Hill, Hornick and Salix, Iowa. She retired from teaching after 35 years.

She married Beryl Boyer on April 28, 1940. He died Jan. 27, 1965, in Sloan. She entered Pleasant View Care Center in 1995.

Survivors include three daughter, Beryla Joy and her husband, Rodman Baird of Lexington, Ohio, Cherianne and her husband, Roger Jacquart, of Liberal, Kan., and Brenda Jean Jensen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son and his wife, Brent and Donna of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, John, Joseph and Jeffrey Baird, Joy Dee and Jabe Jacquart, and Michael, Brian and Tara Boyer; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Lottie Hall, Alice Westhoff, Lucille Olson, CaRema Anderson, LaViece Ernst and Vermina Davis; two brothers, Ellwood and Glen; and a son-in-law, Joseph Fournier.

Lorne J. Heidesch
REMSEN, Iowa - Lorne J. Heidesch, 71, of Remsen died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart, the Rev. Timothy Johnson, the Rev. James Tigges and the Rev. Randy Schon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. conducted by the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters, at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Heidesch was born Feb. 5, 1927, in rural Remsen, the son of John P. and Margaret (Collins) Heidesch. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1945. He then farmed with his father.

He married Audrey Goebel on June 18, 1947, in Alton, Iowa. The couple lived near Remsen, where they farmed. They moved into Remsen in 1983. He was employed with De De Distributing from 1986 to 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters Knights of Columbus, Remsen Lions and past president of O-R Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Wayne and Joyce, Jim and Peg, all of Remsen, and John and Judy of Marcus, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Mary and Keith Arens of Remsen, Lynn and Joe Even of Omaha, Neb., Betty and Curt Bisgard of Yankton, S.D., and Kris and Jim Pottebaum of Hospers, Iowa; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three daughter, Joyce as a child, Lou Ann in infancy and Jean.

Pallbearers will be Jim Boever, Mike Crawford, Larry Galles, Lyle and Ronald Heidesch and Ron Mayer.
