Charlotte L. Thayer
Charlotte Lorraine Thayer, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Morningside Church of Christ with Pastor David B. Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thayer was born Sept. 2, 1919 in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of William Eden and Evelyn (Corona) Cowell. She moved to Sioux City in 1936. She graduated from Central High School in 1936.

She married Frank A. Thayer on July 2, 1936 in Elk Point, S.D. He died Nov. 20, 1982 in Sioux City. She was a housekeeper at Gordon Memorial Hospital. Prior to retirement, she worked at Westwood Convalescent and Rest Home.

She was a member of Morningside Church of Christ, Mended Hearts, Trimble Upper Classmen, American Assocation of Retired Persons and Mature Citizens Card Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Frances Jones of Las Vegas, Nev., Patty and her husband Darwin Sturtevant, Cleo and her husband Carl Peterson and Kay and her husband, Frank Moffatt, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Greg, Evelyn, Wayne, Tommy, Jeff, Jennifer, Danny and Laurie; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

John G. Graning
John Gordon Graning, 73, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in Lake Cypress Springs, Texas.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane in Dallas, with the Rev. Johnny Cook officiating.

Mr. Graning was born July 28, 1925 in Sioux City. He attended Oklahoma A & M and Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Molly Clark in 1947. He was associated with Thorpe & Company Jewelers in Sioux City until 1950 when he joined R. Wallace & Sons Silversmiths in Meriden, Conn. He became national sales manager for Lenox China-Melamine Division in St. Louis, Mo. in 1962. In 1966, he formed a partnership in Dallas known as James and Graning Manufacturers Representatives.

He was a member of St. Lukes Epsicopal Church in Dallas and a past member of Kiwanis, Toastmasters International and the Housewares Club.

Survivors include his wife; one son and his wife, Gary and Sandra of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter and her husband, Karen and David Sipes of The Colony, Texas; three grandsons, Gary Graning and David and John Dustin Sipes; two great-grandsons; one sister and her husband Janice and Robert Walton of DeForest, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Lukes Church, the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.

Brian L. Reinsch
Brian Lee Reinsch, 25, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in Minneapolis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roby Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsmouth, Neb., with the Rev. Patrick O'Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Louisville, Neb. Visitation will be noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Reinsch was born May 5, 1973, in Sioux City, the son of Howard J. and Barbara J. (Schneider) Reinsch. He was raised in Sioux City, where he graduated from high school. He received a bachelor degree in criminal science from St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minn. He was employed with the Minneapolis Police Department.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Minneapolis Police Academy.

Survivors include his parents of Sioux City; a sister, Susan Reinsch of Grand Rapids, Mich.; paternal grandmother, Lavina Reinsch of Geneva, Neb.; and maternal grandmother, Helen Schneider of Papillion, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Schnieder and Joseph Reinsch.

Pallbearers will be Aaron and Matt Reinsch, Fred Ulrich, Barry Parson, Ralph Schneider and Ronald Hostetter.

Earl W. Rockwood
Earl W. Rockwood, 86, of Sioux City died Friday in Sioux City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Alice H. Arnold
Alice H. Arnold, 76, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Covenant Church, with the Rev. Philip Rohler officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Arnold was born April 19, 1922, in Oakdale, La., the daughter of Walter and Thelma (Welch) Clements.

She married Jewel Davis on Sept. 2, 1941. They moved from Pocatello, Idaho, to Sioux City in 1967. He died in 1977. She then married Robert Arnold on Sept. 13, 1980, in Sioux City.

She attended college and was a licensed practical nurse for many years. She had been employed with Marian Health Center and St. Joseph Hospital.

She was a member of First Covenant Church, where she participated in many church activites and was a teacher. She was also a member of Lioness Club and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Herbert J. and Suzi Davis of Little Rock, Ark.; a daughter and her husband, Hope and Jerry Severson of Columbia, Tenn.; a stepson and his wife, Roger W. and Carol Arnold of Lakeside, Calif.; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Pallbearers will be Lester Juon, Stan Anderson, Robert Mohan, Meryle Moreland, Ernest Haddad and Loren Peterson.

Celia A. Bogenreif
Celia A. Bogenreif, 90, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., an Eastern Star service at 7:15 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Bogenreif was born Nov. 3, 1908, in Sioux City, the daughter of Amos and Gertrude (Rarick) Cole.

She married Ed Asmussen in 1928. She married Henry W. Bogenreif on Oct. 23, 1982, in Sioux City. He died November 1985, in Sioux City.

She was employed with Wincharger for six years and then as a bookkeeper at Weatherwax and Montgomery Wards. She then was a housemother at Wayne State College for 15 years.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Azure Chapter, Daughters of the Nile, Mizpha Shrine, Rebecca's and Hawthrone Club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Neal and Sharon of Sioux City and Tom and Jean of Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters, Bonnie Martin of Sioux City, Nancy McBride of Phoenix, Ariz., and Zana and her husband, Roy Johnson, of Omaha, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Max; and a son in infancy.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Craig Martin, Jim and Jay McBride, Stoy and Chris Asmussen and Ryan Millage.

Esther I. Bailey
Esther I. Bailey, 91, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Mix officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Bailey was born Dec. 19, 1906, in Shelby, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Stena (Sorensen) Christensen.

She married Ernest L. Bailey on March 1, 1926, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Orville and Barb of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, LouEllen and Arnold Gust of George, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Bailey of Sioux City; three brothers, Gilbert Christensen of California, Joseph Christensen and his wife, Marion, of Lincoln, Neb., and Donald Christensen of New York; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Alden Dwain Sr.; two brothers, Walt and Chris; and four sisters, Tina, Rose, Stella and Agnes.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Susan H. Smith
Susan H. Smith, 84, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel, with the Revs. Chris Grimmond and David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Smith was born June 10, 1914, in Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph W. and Susan E. (Lashley) Harder. She graduated from Cathedral High School.

She married Arthur W. Smith on Feb. 14, 1939, in Sioux City. He died Jan. 22, 1991, in Sioux City. She was the co-founder of Hawkeye Adjustment and retired a few years ago.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Michaels Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nativity Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel.

Survivors include four sons, Dr. Joseph of Boston, Mass., Clark and his wife, Barbara, of San Raphael, Calif., Patrick of Monroe, Conn., and Thomas and his wife, Kathie, of Dakota Dunes; a daughter and her husband, Susan Kay and Thomas Block of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Mary K. Harder of Dakota City and Madonna Tracy of San Clemente, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul.

Marion E. Warfield
Marion E. Warfield, 96, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. There will be no visitation.

Betty A. Donohoe
VERMILLION, S.D. - Betty A. (Goeken) Donohoe, 58, of Vermillion died Saturday at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Vermillion. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Florence E. Koehlmoos
SHELDON, Iowa - Florence E. Koehlmoos, 82, of Sheldon died Saturday at Wide View Rest Home in Paullina, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Elmer Visser
INWOOD, Iowa - Elmer Visser, 82, of Inwood died Saturday at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Reformed Church in Inwood. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Cecilia Samson
BANCROFT, Neb. - Cecilia Samson, 100, of Bancroft died Saturday at Pender Care Centre in Pender, Neb.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft. Burial will be in Bancroft Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft.

George A. Wick
SIBLEY, Iowa - George A. Wick, 88, of Sibley died Sunday at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anderw's Catholic Church in Sibley. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m., a Catholic Daughters of American rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m., all at Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.

Martha Schlutter
REMSEN, Iowa - Martha Schlutter, 90, of Remsen died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Crestview Manor in Webster City, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Robert L. Eggers officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Moeller Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mrs. Schlutter was born Sept. 4, 1908, in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Louisa (Glade) Hattendorf. She was raised in the Ocheyedan area and attended rural school. She was employed in Sioux City for many years.

She married Roy Herman Schlutter on Sept. 23, 1938, in Remsen. The couple farmed in the Remsen area for many years. Following their retirement, they moved into Remsen. He died in 1986. She entered Crestview Manor in 1991.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aide.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald and his wife, Areta, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dennis and his wife, Lois, of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Shirley Hays and her husband, David, of Dayton, Iowa; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.

Ford W. Joy
CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Ford Wellington Joy, 89, of Correctionville died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Loretta A. Wattier
RANDOLPH, Neb. - Loretta Ann Wattier, 85, of Randolph died Sunday at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, Neb.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Frances Catholic Church in Randolph. Burial will be in St. Frances Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Christian Mothers rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph.

Edward DenHerder
WAKEFIELD, Neb. - Edward DenHerder, 61, of Wakefield died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Clara E. Wilmes
MERRILL, Iowa - Clara E. Wilmes, 84, of Merrill died Sunday at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill. Burial will be in parish Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
