Edward Kratke
Edward Kratke, 92, of South Sioux City died Monday at Walker Colonial Manor in South Sioux City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Pender, Neb. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Vincent R. Erickson
Vincent Raymond Erickson, 87, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his daughter's residence in Milford, Ohio, of congestive heart failure.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Terry Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Erickson was born June 19, 1911, in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1929.

He was employed at several Council Oak stores in the Sioux City area. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1939 with a degree in civil engineering.

He married Grace Louise Sogge on April 17, 1938, in Sioux City.

During World War II, he was employed as a plant engineer with Swift and Co. He then worked for Northwest Airlines before returning to Swift and Co. in 1947. He worked at the Sioux City plant until 1952, when he became the chief engineer and then worked at several locations. He retired in 1974.

The couple moved to McAllen, Texas, in 1975. She died in 1990. He moved to Milford, Ohio, in 1995.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Milford.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Louise Knapp of Milford; a son, Gordon Leonard of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Ione Dye of Sioux City; and five grandchildren, Christopher, David, Matthew, Graceanne and Eric.

He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond.

Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.

Thomas Hettinger
Thomas Hettinger, 45, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday in Fort Lauderdale.

Memorial services will be Friday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Pompano Beach Fla. Serivces will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel. The body will be cremated.

Darrell J. Costello
Darrell J. Costello, 75, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday in Sioux Falls following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Faith M. Schmidt
Faith Marie Schmidt, infant daughter of Stephanie Marie Schmidt of Sergeant Bluff, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Bode of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Faith was born Nov. 29, 1998.

Survivors include her mother; grandparents, Robin L. and Edward A. Schmidt of Sergeant Bluff; great-grandparents, Ruth Phillips of Sioux City, Evelyn Allner of Truman, Minn., and Margaret and Bill Ridenour of Pennsicola, Fla.; great-great-grandparents, Ray and Pauline Schmidt of Sergeant Bluff; and an aunt, Shana L. Schmidt.

Myrtle E. Waldman
Myrtle E. (Crawford) Waldman, 67, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Susan Miller, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Waldman was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Sioux City. She attended Sioux City schools.

She married Richard W. Brownmiller. He died in 1979. She married and divorced Jack Waldman of Moville, Iowa.

She was employed at the Riverboat Inn until retiring in June 1998.

Survivors include five daughters, Peggy and her husband, Rick Schmidt, of Moville, Melissa and her husband, Mike Bradbury, of Greenville, Iowa, Bev Eblen of Lake Ozarks, Mo., Paula Brownmiller of Cushing, Okla., and Pam Grooms of Lexington, N.C.; a son, Richard W. Brownmiller Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; and a special friend, Willard Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ronda; and five sisters.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Siouxland Regional Cancer Center.

Blanche S. Jaynes
Blanche S. Jaynes, 91, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harry Walker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Jaynes was born Oct. 5, 1907, in Sioux City, the daughter of William and Coretta (Morelock) Crooks. She graduated from Central High School in 1925.

She married Harold Jaynes on July 5, 1933, in Dakota City.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Gospel Mission Auxiliary and Telephone Pioneers and a volunteer at Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Lois and Dr. Gene Holly of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Gilbert Crooks; and a sister, Grace McComb.

A memorial fund will be established in her name with Bethel Baptist Church.

Gladys H. Horner
Gladys Hope Horner of Sioux City died Tuesday at Countryside Retirement Center in Sioux City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery, Hudson, S.D. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Roy E. Johnson
Roy E. Johnson, 69, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. William Steward of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Johnson was born June 8, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Ernest and Alma (Stevens) Johnson. He graduated from East High School in 1948.

He attended Morningside College until he was drafted in 1951 into the U.S. Army. He returned from service in 1953 and graduated from Morningside College. He then received his law degree from the University of Iowa.

He married Cecelia Lowery on July 15, 1967, in Sioux City.

He opened his private practice before working for the Woodbury County Attorney's Office for 17 years. He returned to private practice with offices in Correctionville, Iowa, and Sioux City, until retiring.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four stepsons, Leslie and Joel Lowery, both of Sioux City, Randall Lowery and his wife, Kim, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Kirk Lowery of Ireton, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Debbie Brown of Sioux City; 11 stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Ramona Dolan of Sioux City, Violet Hoefert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rose Beebe of Bethune, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Norman Dolan of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Delmer D. Decker
Delmer D. Decker, 76, of South Sioux City died Monday; Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Marie B. Lorenzen
Marie B. Lorenzen, 80, of Sioux City died Tuesday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Darrell Henningsen
DENISON, Iowa - Darrell Henningsen, 61, of Winter Park, Fla., formerly of Denison, died Sunday at Orlando Regional South Seminole Hospital in Orlando, Fla.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Koos Bolkema
SHELDON, Iowa - Koos Bolkema, 90, of Sheldon died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. John Vermeer and the Rev. Daniel Heemstra officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Mr. Bolkema was born July 6, 1908, in Oldekerk, Gronigen, the Netherlands, the son of John and Bordzina (Venema) Bolkema.

He came to the United States and the Hospers, Iowa, area as a child. He attended Hospers Christian School.

He married Bertha Beuzekom on Feb. 24, 1933, in Archer, Iowa.

The couple farmed in the Archer and Sheldon area. He also served as a district manager for Fontanelle Seed Co. for many years. They retired from farming in 1973, and moved into Sheldon. She died Sept. 9, 1980, in Sheldon.

He married Dora Vander Berg on Aug. 14, 1981, in Hospers. The couple made their home in Sheldon. In 1988, they entered Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. She died Sept. 1, 1994, in Sheldon.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he was an elder, and Dutch Psalm Singers.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Calvin Heemstra of Orange City, Iowa, and Helen and James Bilsland of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Kenneth and Janice of Sheldon; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Bradley, Daniel and Scott Heemstra, Barbara Laarman, Tami Fairbanks, Edward Bilsland, Christina Engel and Kevin Bolkema; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Tille Bolkema of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Sjoerd, Herman, Popko, John, William and Elze; and two sisters, Annie Stuit and Sadie Krikke.

Selma Rosenquist
KIRON, Iowa - Selma "Sally" Rosenquist, 99, of Kiron died Monday at Odebolt Rehab and Nursing Center in Odebolt, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron. Burial will be in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.

Don Noll
SANBORN, Iowa - Donald Jay Noll, 73, of Sanborn died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn, with the Rev. Kenneth Funke officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Sanborn Funeral Home.

Mr. Noll was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Chicago and resided with Minnie Noll. He was raised in Milwaukee, Wis., where he graduated from Rufus King High School.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and during the Korean War.

He received his degree in education in York, Neb., and his master's of education degree from Drake University in Des Moines.

He married Betty Jean Schoonover on June 6, 1947, in York, Neb.

Following his discharge, he taught history, government and physical education in Sanborn for more than 30 years. He also coached varsity football, baseball, basketball, cross country and track teams. He entered Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in 1996.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served in many offices including president of the congregation, church building committee, taught Sunday School, and served as Sunday School superintendent. He enjoyed golfing, baseball and football.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Noll of Omaha, Neb.; two sons and their wives, Mark and Connie of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Mike and Brenda of McHenry, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his wife and a stepbrother, Earl Tolles.

Pallbearers will be Keith Marra, Milo and Mark Japenga, Scott Borden, Corey Hopkins, Lowell Appleton and Ted Schoonover.

Thomas L. O'Bannon
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Thomas Lee O'Bannon, 39, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Storm Lake, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, Ind., of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The body will be cremated following the visitation.

Gilbert Berkenpas
LE MARS, Iowa - Gilbert Berkenpas, 82, of Le Mars died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Berkenpas was born March 24, 1916, near Castlewood, S.D., the son of Henry and Anna (Tammenga) Berkenpas.

He moved with his family to a farm in Sioux County in Iowa, where he attended country school.

He married Eunice Johnson on Oct. 23, 1941, in Le Mars. The couple farmed north of Le Mars, near Merrill, Iowa, and at their present farm since 1962.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carole and her husband, Eugene Orban, of Le Mars and Connie Arnold of Merrill; a son and his wife, Jeff and Darla of Le Mars; six grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; three brothers, Don and his wife, Darlene, and Darrell and his wife, Lorraine, all of Le Mars, and Harold of Sterling, Colo.; a sister, Gertrude Zoerink of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Sidney and Richard; and a sister, Esther Faber.

Pallbearers will be Troy Dempster, Bill Fischer, Brendan, Doug and Darwin Berkenpas and Rick Orban.

Memorials may be directed to Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars.

Jerry DeBoer
LE MARS, Iowa - Jerry DeBoer, 56, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Monday at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Donald P. Scollard
PONCA, Neb. - Donald P. Scollard, 64, of Ponca died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. James Bartak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Visitation with the family present will resume at 6 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. said by Knights of Columbus and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Mr. Scollard was born Jan. 7, 1934, in rural Waterbury, Neb., the son of Patrick W. and Erma L. (Jones) Scollard. He graduated from Ponca High School in 1952.

He married Carol Jean Bottoms on Aug. 8, 1960, in Manson, Iowa.

He owned and operated Scollard Transfer Trucking Co. until 1962. He then owned and operated Scollard Produce in Ponca for 23 years. He was employed with St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City since 1989.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Ponca Fire and Rescue Squad. He served as the director of Dixon County Civil Defense and served on the Ponca City Council for seven years.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Ponca; two sons and their wives, Patrick and Tammy of Sioux City and Brian and Tami of Ponca; a daughter and her husband, Cathy and Gary Schuett of Hadar, Neb.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Pallbearers will be Gary Kayl, Larry Lowe, Charlie Nelson, Bill Wente, Matt Max and Jeff Anderson.

Lela S. Davis
SCHALLER, Iowa - Lela S. Davis, 102, of Schaller died Monday at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Schaller. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery, Galva, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
