Rev. Arthur Beumler
Rev. Arthur K. Beumler, Jr., 64, of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Presbytrian Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Roger D. Graf and Rev. Richard P. Massaro officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Rev. Beumler was born April 15, 1933, the son of Dr. Arthur K. and Mildred (Chandler) Beumler, M.D., in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was raised and educated in South Webster, Ohio, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1954, and from Yale Divinity School in 1957. He married Joyce Anne Mills on Dec. 29, 1956 in Lakewood, Ohio. The couple lived in Livonia, Mich. from 1957 to 1976 where he was the associate pastor of Rosedale Gardens United Presbyterian Church. In 1976 they moved to Sioux City where he served as pastor of Morningside Presbyterian Church until 1995.
He was one of the co-founders of Livonia Citizens for Better Human Relations. He was also one of the co-founders of Interfaith Resources in Sioux City. He was moderator of Presbytery of Prospect Hill, past president of Sioux City Ministerial Association, and a member of the Sioux City Chapter of the American Inter-Professional Institute. He was also active and was honored as a volunteer of KWIT public radio station since its inception.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Dr. James and Heidi Hudnut-Beumler of Decatur, Ga., Steve and Melissa of Omaha, Neb., and John and Allison of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Julia and Adam Hudnut-Beumler, and Andrew Vala; and his mother, Mildred Beumler of South Webster, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church, Interfaith Resources, or the endowment fund of Friends of KWIT.
Lucile M. Christenson
Lucile M. Christenson, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Kretzschamar, pastor at Whitfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Christenson was born June 28, 1916, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arthur and Lizzie (Burwick) Miller. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School. She was employed with Interbake Foods for many years.
She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and the Baker's Union.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Howard and Marty Wilshire of New Hampton, Iowa; a daughter, Jean Dawdy of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Robert E. and Gayle Miller of Katy, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Maxine, Vera and Joyce Miller, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Merle Miller; and an infant daughter, Doris.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jim, Jeff, Darrin, Larry, and Tony Dawdy and Brian Wilshire.
Ervin H. Hinkley
Ervin H. Hinkley, 83, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Morningside Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger D. Graf officiating.
Mr. Hinkley was born Dec. 15 1914, the son of Harold and Katherine (Woodrig) Hinkley, in Sioux City. He graduated from East High School in 1934. He married Helen Steen on Feb. 15, 1937 in Los Angeles, Calif. She died May 6, 1991, in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II from 1942 to 1946. He married Frances Holcomb on Feb. 20, 1993. A lifetime resident of Sioux City, he worked for Western Newspaper Union, and D.W. Verstegan Printing Company. In 1953 he joined Record Printing Company and was employed there until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post, and Dakota Dunes Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pam Scofield of Sioux City; a step-son, James Holcomb of Johnston; and a step-daughter, Ginger Soelberg of Johnston; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Ashmore of South Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Raymond.
Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church.
Harold R. Martin
Harold R. Martin, 87, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 30, 1988 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Lutheran CHurch with Rev. Krishen A. Persaud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. today with the family present from 4 to 6 pm. at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Martin was born Feb. 4, 1910, the son of Charles and Mabel (Cook) Martin, in Clinton, Mo. He married Alyce Nystrom on Feb. 8, 1930, in Denver, Colo. He was an electrician for 40 years, having worked for Nystrom Electric Co., Rhymer Electric Co., and Thompson Electric Co.
He was a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and a charter member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, with which he was associated for 60 years. He was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and WACO.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Jim Kreitzinger of Des Moines, Iowa, and Priscilla and Norman Loker of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, John and his wife, Mary Martin, of Llano, Calif; two sisters, Minn and her husband, Thruman Parks, of Emporia, Kan. and Francis Wood of Lone Pine Calif.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Belva M. Mickey
Belva M. Mickey, 95, of Sioux City died Saturday after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Nurre
Richard Carl Nurre, 75, of Sioux City died Friday Jan. 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at noon Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Joe Dillinger and the Rev. Henry Nurre officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Nurre was born June 28, 1922, the son of Joseph and Anna (Lenz) Nurre, in Bancroft, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University. He married Doris Smith on June 23, 1942, in Duluth, Minn. He served as a pilot in World War II and the Korean War. He was employed as a civil engineer and enjoyed music, computers, sports, and playing bridge.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Richard C., Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeffrey F. of San Francisco, Calif., Mark J. and his wife, Geri, of Salem, Ore., and Joel A. of St. Paul, Minn.; a grandson, Ryan and his wife, Carey; two sisters, Sylvia Kollasch and Dorothy and her husband, Leslie Harvey; two brothers, Phil and his wife, Rose, and Rev. Henry Nurre; a sister-in-law, Eileen Nurre; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Church or The Benedictine Monastery in Bennet Lake, Wis.
Archie C. Shrader
Archie C. Shrader, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 4:30 p.m at the funeral home.
Vernetta E. Taylor
Vernetta E. Taylor, 71, of Dakota Dunes died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at home following a long illness.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 8, 1926, the daughter of Everett and Della (Fuller) Erkman, in Eldorado, Ill. After graduating from Eldorado High School in 1943, she began working for Western Union in Illinois until her marriage to Orie Taylor on Nov. 1, 1952, in Corinth, Miss. They traveled extensively with his career until retiring to Dakota Dunes in 1992.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and Jeff Staben of Sioux City, Lisa and Joe Budnick of Isanti, Minn., and Tina and Tom Karges of Grand Rapids, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Cassandra and Eric Staben, Danielle, Betsy, Jacob, Joshua, and Michaela Budnic, and Adam and Matthew Karges; and a brother, James Erkman, of Eldorado, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, J.W. Erkman.

Denman F. Dean
SLOAN, Iowa - Denman F. Dean, 85, of Sloan died Sunday at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Chapel in Sloan. Burial will be in Hite Cemetery in rural Whiting. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Diane Fischer
MERRILL, Iowa - Diane Fischer, 38, of Merrill died Saturday at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian United CHurch of Christ in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial will be in the Stanton County Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Lawrence A. Grant
MACY, Neb. - Lawrence A. Grant, 35, Macy, Neb. died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1988, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Alfred W. Gilpin Community Center in Macy with Mitchell Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Omaha Indian Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at his residence in Macy. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Grant was born May 20, 1962, the son of Daniel Webster Sr. and Gladys Marie Grant, in Winnebago, Neb. He worked in the maintenance department of the Omaha Tribal Office in Macy. He had been a resident of Macy all his life.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Macy; three sons, Tyson, Jasten, and Kennen Grant, all of Macy; seven sisters, Brenda Cline, Aimee Sheridan, and Lydia Webster, all of Macy, Kimberly Grant, Debra Fremont, and Lena Spears, all of Walthill, Neb., and Lynn McCauley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and nine brothers, Nathaniel Grant, Derrick Grant, Marquette Sheridan, Ed Webster, Dan Webster, Jr., Perry Webster, Barry Webster, and Derek Webster, all of Macy, and Robert Webster of Bismarck, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Florence Hamann
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Florence Hamann, 80, of Rock Valley died Saturday at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Doris L. Kraai
HULL, Iowa - Doris L. Kraai, 79, of Hull died Friday Jan. 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at American Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. David C. Ter Beest officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Mrs. Kraai was born Sept. 9, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Vander Schaaf) Hymans, in Hull. She was raised in Hull, where she graduated from Hull Public High School. She also attended business school in Sioux City.
She married Dale Kraai on Dec. 5, 1942 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The couple had made their home in Hull since 1947, where she assisted her husband in the operation of Kraai Furniture Store and the Kraai Funeral Home, from which they retired in 1982. In earlier years, she was employed as a secretary in various offices, including the Sioux County Assessor and Northwestern College, both in Orange City, Iowa.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Rachel and Jim Ter Beest of Omaha, Neb.; a son and his wife, Paul and Arlis of Hull; four grandchildren, Laura and Nathan Ter Beest, and David and Pamela Kraai; and three sisters, Claryce Gorzeman of Hull, Myra Frye of Los Alomitos, Calif., and Virginia Schoenbohm of Bloomington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Delia Meylink and a brother, Harold Hymans.
Don Sessions
DENISON, Iowa - Don Sessions, 77, of Denison died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Denison Baptist Church in Denison. Burial wil be in Cedar Lawn-Rose Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
Perry Sneller
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Perry John Sneller, 47, died Friday Jan. 30, 1998 in Sioux Center.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Mark De Witt officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Sneller was born on Dec. 31, 1950, the son of Dames and LaVern (Panhorst) Sneller, in Hull, Iowa. He worked as a soil technician.
Survivors include his mother of Sioux Center; a brother, Pat and his wife, Stacey, of Flandreau, S.D.; and a sister, Amy Sneller of Englewood, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Edith E. Streck
MAPLETON, Iowa - Edith E. Streck, 85, of Mapleton died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at her daughter's home in Council Bluffs, Iowa after a long illness.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with a rosary by St. Mary's Guild at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Streck was born Sept. 21, 1912, the daughter of Englebert and Julia (Schafer) Ullrich, in Mapleton. She lived her entire life in the Mapleton area. She married Leo I. Streck on June 10, 1935 in Mapleton. He died Oct. 29, 1995.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton as well as St. Mary's Guild.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Walter and Sherrel of Houston, Texas, and Ronald and Karen of Herndon, Va.; three daughters and their husbands, Janet and Edward Shada of Council Bluffs, Lois and Richard Brink of Hastings, Neb., and Diann and Tony Iarocci of Care Free, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Ullrich of Columbia, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Hildegarde Ullrich of Mapleton, Ella Ullrich of Salix, Iowa, and Ann and her husband, Fred Snyder, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and sevral other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Streck.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Midlands, American Cancer Society, or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Florence Wright
PIERSON, Iowa - Florence Geraldine Wright, 86, of Pierson died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ in Correctionville, Iowa with the Rev. Elmer Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.
Mrs. Wright was born April 15, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Sadie (Mahin) Keller, in Kingsley, Iowa. She graduated from Hinton High School in Hinton, Iowa and then moved with her family to Correctionville. She married Melvin Wright on Sept. 28, 1931, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed between Cushing and Correctionville untill 1955 when they moved to farm south of Pierson. In 1997, the couple moved into Pierson. She was employed at the Locker in Kingsley and later in restaurants there and in Pierson. She enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Larry and his wife, Patti, of Sioux City, and Steve and his wife, Oliva of Grinnell; a daughter, Cleone and her husband, Ron Perkins, of Pierson; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Fullerton.
