Laverne E. Suffield
Laverne E. Suffield, 75, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Countryside Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Berkemier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Suffield was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ted and Lucille (Klucking) Colt. She graduated from Central High School in 1940 and attended Nettleton Business College.

She was employed as a bookkeeper with Ted's Cafe for several years.

She married William D. Suffield on Oct. 24, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He died May 26, 1993. She then managed Suffield Properties Inc.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Thomas and Lynn of Cedar Park, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Nick Millard of Sioux City, Barbara and Oris Glass of Fremont, Neb., and Melanie and Randy Lundgren of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Evelyn Plueger of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Martin, Michelle and Mark Millard, Oliver, Jared and Garrett Glass, Rami, Jill and Wade Suffield and William and Eleanor Lundgren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mickey Colt.

Pallbearers will be Martin and Mark Millard, Jared, Oliver and Garrett Glass, Wade Suffield and William Lundgren.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.

Robert Carson Jr.
Robert B. Carson Jr., 55, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary DeGeest of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Carson was born Nov. 30, 1942, in San Diego, Calif., the son of Robert B. and Ruth (Speulda) Carson Sr. He was raised in Sioux City.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He returned to Sioux City in 1972.

He married Connie S. Carpenter on Nov. 15, 1975, in Sioux City.

He was employed as an electrician for various electrical companies in Sioux City, most recently with Lewis Electric.

He was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church and the Big Sioux Model Railroad Club, where he served as past president and treasurer. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a hot rod enthusiest.

Survivors include his wife; his father and stepmother, Robert and Pauline Carson Sr. of San Jacinto, Calif.; a daughter, Rachel Carson and her fiance, Tony, of Sioux City; three sons, Robert III and his wife, Schauna, of Sioux City, Christian of Albany, N.Y., and Neil and his fiancee, Jennifer, of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Tom Parry of Sioux City; two sisters, Barbara Butler and Robbin Parry, both of Sioux City; and three grandchildren, Robby, Meagan and Matia.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Pallbearers will be Todd Bensen, Jim Mandicino, Jim VanDeSteeg, Justin Parry, Bill Butler and Gene Ebner.

Harriett Justice
Harriett Justice, 95, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at a South Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Justice was born Sept. 17, 1902, in Dakota City, the daughter of James and Addie (Fisher) Ayres.

She married William E. Justice on April 9, 1923, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Aug. 10, 1976, in Sioux City.

She was employed with Windcharger and Zenith companies.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Franklin "Jake" and Maxine and Douglas and Betty Ann, all of Cape Coral, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, LaVonne and Elmer Barrett of Sioux City and Mary and Don McElhaney of Lakeville, Minn.; a sister, Mayme Hansen of Burkley, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Sharen, Jeannie, Brent, Lynn, Janice, Scott, Susan, Michael, Jean and Jill; 19 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and her caregiver and special friend, Donna Griep.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Bill, Mark and David Ayers, Tom Martin, Brad Stewart and Bill Atwood.

Helen E. Konicek
Helen E. Konicek, 96, of South Sioux City died Monday at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Catholic Cemetery at Wisner, Neb. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will resume with a scriptural wake service at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Lawrence S. Slotsky
Lawrence S. Slotsky, 77, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Congregation Beth Shalom, with spiritual leader James Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Sinai Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Slotsky was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of William C. and Kate Slotsky. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business adminstration.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a navigator. He was stationed on Tinian Island and flew 32 bombing mission over Japan, including a low level raid that enabled the Enola Gay to complete its mission. His awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross with five oak leaf clusters.

He married Charlotte Liebling on May 1, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. The couple moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where they lived for six years and he was employed as the credit manager for Liebling Furniture Company. They moved to Sioux City in 1952, where he became the general manager of the Credit Bureau of Sioux City. He was president and chairman of the board for Northwest Iowa Credit Bureaus Inc. and publisher of the Daily Reporter newspaper.

He served as president of the Jewish Federation, the Sioux City Concert Course, the Mount Sinai Temple, the Iowa Credit Managers Association, the Associated Credit Bureaus of Upper Midwest and the Associated Credit Bureaus of Iowa. He served as chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, the Aviation Committee for Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, the United Way Board of Directors, the United Way Campaign and the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

He served on the board of directors for the Siouxland Better Business Bureau and Western Iowa Tech Foundation and was a founding member of Consumer Credit Counseling Service. He also served on the executive committee at St. Luke's Regional Hospital.

He enjoyed being a private pilot, with more than several thousand hour of flight time.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Jeff and Peggy and Don and Liz, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Craig Jensen of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Bernard and Margot Slade of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and a sister, Myna Oppenheim of Beachwood, Ohio.

Memorials in his name may be directed to The Mazon in care of Congregation Beth Shalom.

Winfield G. Shea
Winfield G. "Jimmy" Shea, 95, of Sioux City died Monday at a Sioux City retirement home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Earl L. Schmidt
Earl L. Schmidt, 84, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Landmark Lodge 103 A.F.&A.M., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Schmidt was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Archer, Iowa, the son of Otto and Jenny (Galliseth) Schmidt. He moved with his family to Sioux City in 1920. He attended Sioux City schools.

He married Reba Curtis on May 27, 1939, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She died Oct. 23, 1995, in Sioux City.

He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during World War II.

He joined the Sioux City Police Department in 1942. He was promoted to sergeant and then to detective and was the first licensed pilot in the department. He received numerous awards and citations through his career. He retired from the Police Department in 1968.

He was also employed with Thompson Electric as a warehouse manager for several years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Landmark Lodge 103, the Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies and the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.

Survivors include four sisters, Margaret Boe of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mildred Briley of Sioux City, Dorothy Losse of Tampa, Fla., and Shirley Heath of Red Wing, Minn.; two grandchildren, Reba and Earl Parkhill; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jette Lee Parkhill; a brother, John Schmidt; and a sister, Ann Sandeen.

Memorials in his name may be directed to either Hospice of Siouxland or Trinity Lutheran Church.

DeWayne J. Sitzman, 67, of Sioux City died Tuesday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Henry J. "Pete" Sponder, 71, of Sioux City died Monday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

YANKTON, S.D. - Agnes Wright, 86, of Yankton died Saturday at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church of Yankton. Burial will be in Yankton City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Ray-Lane Funeral Chapel of Yankton is in charge of the arrangements.

ROSALIE, Neb. - Maynard Nelson, 88, of Rosalie died Sunday at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, Neb. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery at Fremont, Neb.

DUNLAP, Iowa - Elizabeth Annetta Kuhlman, 76, of Dunlap died Sunday at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today, with the family present at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at the Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.

Bertha Dolieslager
SHELDON, Iowa - Bertha Dolieslager, 84, of Sheldon died Monday at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Sheldon Funeral Service.

Viola C. Spiegel
DENISON, Iowa - Viola C. Spiegel, 86, of Denison, formerly of Manning, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. Daniel G. Gifford officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.

Mrs. Spiegel was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Manning, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Hass) Stammer. She was baptized in Manning and confirmed in Denison in the Lutheran faith.

She was raised in Manning and attended rural schools. She moved with her family to Denison. She was employed as a waitress.

She married William Spiegel on May 28, 1932, in Blair, Neb. The couple made their home in Denison. She was a homemaker. He died July 27, 1991.
Mrs Spiegel moved to Sioux City and in 1996 entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking and babysitting.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Robert Meyer of Sioux City; two granddaughter, Pati and Suzanne Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, William in infancy; a brother, Reynold Stammer; and a granddaughter, Kathy Meyer.

Evelyn M. Perrin
MAPLETON, Iowa - Evelyn M. Perrin, 86, of Mapleton died Tuesday at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. Burial will be in Center Cemetery at Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

SPENCER, Iowa - Marie Hart, 93, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Monday at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

Edwin Hammer
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Edwin Hammer, 79, of Ida Grove died unexpectedly Monday at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Battle Creek, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Helen Curry
PONCA, Neb. - Helen (Wente) Curry, 61, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Ponca, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Kansas City.
Services were held Jan. 30, in Platte City, Mo. Memorial services will be at a later date in Ponca.

Cornie Vander Werff
SANBORN, Iowa - Cornie Vander Werff, 77, of Sanborn died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn, with the Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Earl T. Conaway Post 318 of Sanborn. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Mr. Vander Werff was born June 19, 1920, near Hull, Iowa, the son of Rommert and Theodora (Rodenburgh) Vander Werff. He attended country school and worked on the family farm.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the African and European theaters. He received numerous awards and decorations, including seven Bronze Star Medals. He returned to the Hull area.

He married Mae Johanna Elgersma on Nov. 20, 1946, in Sanborn. The couple farmed in Northwest Iowa. She died Nov. 25, 1964.

He married Stephena DeWitt on Aug. 10, 1966, in Sanborn. The couple farmed near Sanborn until 1984, when they retired and moved into Sanborn.

He was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory and participated in the Men's Society. He also served on the school board and was an active contributor to Hull Western Christian and Dordt College. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Helene Vander Werff of Sioux Falls, Donna and her husband, Gilbert Denny, of Hartley, Iowa, Carol and her husband, Gary Hofman, of Sioux Falls and Sandra and her husband, Dale DeJong, of Richland, Mich.; a son and his wife, Richard and Joy of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers; seven sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Matthew and Brian Denny, Mark Warburton, Matt Petersen, Larry Beimers and Burdelle Krikke.

Grace Ter Haar
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Grace Ter Haar, 89, of Sioux Center died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at the nursing wing of Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30p.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center.

Mrs. Ter Haar was born Nov. 18, 1908, in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Steven and Pieterje (Porma) Van Otterloo.

She married Henry Ter Haar on Feb. 20, 1929, in Sioux Center. He died Oct. 4, 1990.

She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald of Sioux Center and Donald and his wife, Irene, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter and her husband, Helen and Roger Bolks of Sioux Center; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Phil; a great-grandchild; a brother; five half brothers; and a half sister.

Lena Lago
PRIMGHAR, Iowa - Lena Lago, 100, of Primghar died Tuesday at Primghar Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar. Burial will be in Highland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Ronald L. Onken
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Ronald L. Onken, 48, of rural Cherokee died Monday at his residence due to an accident.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Bernadine C. Connor
ANTHON, Iowa - Bernadine Caroline Connor, 74, of Anthon, formerly of Danbury, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. David Hogan and the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. said by the St. Mary's Rosary Society and a vigil wake service at 6:30 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Connor was born July 21, 1923, in Danbury, the daughter of George and Lena (Olson) Mohrhauser. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Danbury and graduated from Danbury Public High School in 1941.

She taught in a country school in Garfield Township in 1945.

She married Leo James Connor on Feb. 28, 1949, in Danbury. The couple resided in Danbury for many years. He died Nov. 21, 1979.

She was employed with Zenith in Sioux City until it closed and at WCCAA in Sioux City for 11 years. She later moved to Anthon.

She was active in the Woodbury County 4-H program. She enjoyed fishing, growing flowers and playing bingo.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Terry and Barb of Correctionville, Iowa, and Mike and Deb of Norfolk, N.Y.; two daughters, Rae Hopkins of Danbury and Jean and her husband, Jerome Forte, of Jacksonville, N.C.; a son-in-law, Joe Hopkins; eight grandchildren, Tim, Jeff and Andrew Connor, Tess Hopkins, Jon Forte and Shannon, Lisa and Nicole Hopkins; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ann Pithan of Danbury and Maggie Pollock of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers and their wives, Bernard and Ellie Mohrhauser and Charles and Bernadine Mohrhauser, all of Danbury, Richard and Penney Mohrhauser of Mapleton and Ray and Jean Mohrhauser of Le Mars, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Al Shell of Sioux City; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Mohrhauser of Cresco, Iowa, and Adeline Mohrhauser of Danbury.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jack; a daughter, Donna Hopkins; three brothers, George, Emmett and Albert; two sisters, Jen Shell and Olive Collins; a sister-in-law, Lucy Mohrhauser; and three brothers-in-law, Lewis Collins, Mel Pithan and Doc Pollock.

Anthony E. Pottebaum
ALTON, Iowa - Anthony E. "Tony" Pottebaum, 61, of Alton died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3 p.m. said by the St. Mary's Rosary Society, a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. said by the Catholic Order of Foresters, at the church. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Pottebaum was born July 7, 1936, in rural Alton, the son of Anton and Anna (Pick) Pottebaum. He was raised in the Alton area and attended St. Mary's Academy in Alton.

He was then a farm laborer in the Granville and Alton area. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was then employed at the Alton Premium Feed. In 1960, he went into farming for himself.

He married Janet Gergen on Aug. 29, 1961, in Granville, Iowa. The couple continued farming near Alton and in 1963 they moved to a farm near Hospers, Iowa. In 1967 they moved to their farm near Alton.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the church choir and the Catholic Order of Foresters, and was a past commissoner for 12 years and an alternate commissioner for the Sioux County Soil Conservation Board, the county manager for Archer's Oil and a past dealer for Cargill Seed for many years.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Deb and her husband, Mark Van Roekel, of Waterloo, Iowa, Margie and her husband, Scott Simonson, of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sherry and her husband, Tom Powers, of Denison, Iowa, Chris Pottebaum of Sioux City, Jean and her husband, Jeff Shrum, of Eagan, Minn. and Carla Pottebaum and her fiance, Jay Franzmeier, of Waverly, Iowa; five sons, Larry and his wife, Shelly, of Marion, Iowa, Gary and Danny and his wife, Renae, all of Alton, Darrell and his wife, Susan, of Indianola, Iowa, and Rick and his wife, Bonnie Sue, of England; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Tarsella and her husband, Milo Probst, and Florence Thole, all of Alton, Berdella and her huband, Herb Schueller, of Primghar, Iowa, Mary Ann and her husband, Art Walker, of Clermont, Fla., and Donna Rae and her husband, Kenneth Krogman, of Ashton, Iowa; six brothers and their wives, Ivan and Clare of Granville, Eugene and Eny of Rock Valley, Iowa, Howard and Doris and Orville and Mary Ann, all of Alton, Arlin and Marlene of Hospers and Ike and Carol of Le Mars; and a brother-in-law, Ambrose Block of Hospers.

He was preceded in death by parents and a sister, Bernice Block.

ONAWA, Iowa - Rose Marie Lasher, 72, of Onawa died Monday at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery at Magnolia, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy M. Matthews
WHITING, Iowa - Dorothy Mary Matthews, 92, of Whiting died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church in Whiting, with the Rev. Patricia G. Minnick officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Matthews was born April 16, 1905, near Whiting, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Cummings) Dean. She attended country school.

She married Ralph E. Matthews on Nov. 4, 1923, in Onawa. He died Sept. 6, 1963, in Onawa.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, the Women's Fellowship, the Royal Neighbors of America and Emery Johnson American Legion Post 481 Auxiliary in Whiting, where she served as a past president.

Survivors include two daughters, Joann Orr and Jana Johnson, both of Whiting; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Effie and Minor Johnson of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Georgetta Dean of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patty Sue; a grandson, Steven; a sister, Donna; and two brothers, Otis and Wyman.

Memorials may be directed to either First Congregational Church or the Whiting Library.

Randall C. Nelson
MERRILL, Iowa - Randall C. "Randi" Nelson, 27, of Merrill died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Marion Sindt, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 27, 1970, in Fremont, Neb., the son of Carl and Margaret (Clabaugh) Nelson.

He attended his first two years of school in Fremont. He moved with his family to Westfield, Iowa. He attended Westfield Community School and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 1989.

He had worked in the bean fields in the Westfield and Merrill areas. He was also employed with John Morrell and then C&H Heavy Duty Specialist. In 1991, he started RC Trucking of Westfield. He drove for Higman Sand and Gravel and was currently leased to Girton Propane from Clay Center, Kan.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont.

Survivors include two sons, Nicholas Dale and Nathan Lee, both of Sioux City; his parents of Westfield; two brothers, Ricci, his twin, and Rodney, both of Westfield; two sisters and their husbands, Mardell and Rodney Obermiller of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Tracy and John Howard of Alcester, S.D.; maternal grandparents, Donald and Violet Clabaugh of Westfield; paternal grandmother, Mabel Kobernus of Sioux City; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Harris, Jim Parrish, Dan Bailey, Clint Barrett, Craig Kratz and Jeff Kennedy.

SIBLEY, Iowa - John Langstraat, 77, of Sibley died unexpectedly Tuesday at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Sibley. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.
