Viola C. Rice
Viola C. Rice, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were Saturday.

Mrs. Rice was born June 19, 1911,
in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Louise (Corrin) West. She graduated from Ida Grove, Iowa High School in 1929. She taught country school in Woodbury County for three years.

She married Frank Rice on May 17, 1937, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, where she was a past deaconess, the Church Women United, the United Presbyterian Women, where she was a past president, and the Bethany Circle.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Bruce and his wife Linda of Sullivan, Mo., Kermit and his wife Carolyn of Andover, Minn., Stephen and his wife Jean of Corona, Calif. and Milton of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Martha and William Krause of Vermillion, S.D. and Helen and Warren Thomas of Kingsley, Iowa; a brother, Ray West of Alta, Iowa; three sisters, Agnes Wait of Ida Grove, Jean Sundberg of Mora, Minn. and Esther and her husband Weldon Smith of Florissant, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Sara Z. Herzoff
Sara Z. Herzoff, 82, of Sioux City died Friday at the Indian Hills Care Center of kidney failure.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maxine R. Slotsky
Maxine R. Slotsky, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom with Mr. James Sherman, spiritual leader, officiating. Burial will be in Independent Farane Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Slotsky was born Jan. 11, 1921, the daughter of Harry and Ida (Hanin) Raskin. She married William Slotsky on Dec. 24, 1942 in Sioux City. He died Nov. 20, 1968 in Sioux City. She lived most of her life in Sioux City. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Fred and Marilyn of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Laurie Shubb of Chatsworth, Calif., and Susan Shwarts of Houston, Texas; a sister, Estelle and her husband Nate Magid of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thanh Van Nguyen
Thanh Van Nguyen, 47, of Sioux City died Thursday at home following a long illness.
Services will be Tuesday in Wichita, Kan. Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Agnes "Pat" Dow, 92, of Sioux City died Friday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Kermit L. Ravnsborg
TURIN, Iowa - Kermit L. Ravnsborg, 84, of Turin died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services were Saturday. Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ravnsborg was born Nov. 18, 1913, near Turin, the son of Rasmus and Clara (Hansen) Ravnsborg. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended Hiawatha Country School, through the eighth grade, Turin High School, for two years, and graduated from Moorhead (Iowa) High School in 1931.

He married Vivian Peterson on Nov. 9, 1940, in Onawa. He farmed on the family farm near Turin.

He served as the Belvidere Township clerk for several years, on the Turin Town Council, as the mayor of Turin, on the Belvidere Township Election Board and on the Moorhead School Board. He was a former Boy Scout leader.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Elk Masonic Lodge 586 A.F. & A.M. of Moorhead, Scottish Rite Bodies and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Carol of Bennington, Neb. and Richard and Jeanne of Quimby, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Bill Kruse of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Elaine and Roger Ingebritson of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and nine grandchildren, Amy and Dave Magstadt, B.J., Michelle and Jason Ravnsborg, Brian and Julie Kruse, John and Ann Ingebritson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Harold and Clarence.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Unit at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa, or the First Christian Church in Onawa.

Meta E. Vollmar
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Meta E. Vollmar, 94, of Holstein died Thursday at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.
Services were Saturday at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Eva L. Appleton
WALTHILL, Neb. - Eva L. Appleton, 82, of Walthill died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Pender, Neb. Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, with the Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Walthill.

Mrs. Appleton was born March 5, 1915, near Bancroft, Neb., the daughter of Gustav and Margaret (Luedert) Witt. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith.

She married Harry Appleton on March 9, 1936, in South Sioux City. The couple lived briefly in Minnesota before moving to Winnebago, Neb. They farmed until 1992, when they moved into Walthill. He died March 13, 1994. She reported for the Pender Times. She enjoyed reading and writing.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Rod and Linda of Winnebago and Richard "Punk" and Lila of Mountain Home, Idaho; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Emmett Witt of Bancroft and a sister, Florence Nielsen of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Allen; an infant daughter, Nancy; and three grandchildren.

Clinton C. Lindsey
MERRILL, Iowa - Clinton "Clint" C. Lindsey, 68, of Merrill died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until service time at the funeral home.

Clinton Curtis Lindsey was born Dec. 28, 1929 near Merrill, the son of Arthur and Ellen (Lake) Lindsey. He graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School in 1947. He married Janet Daniels on May 17, 1952 at the Merrill United Methodist Church. The couple farmed west of Merrill for several years. He drove for Yoerger Trucking and Wagner Trucking. He also worked several years as a dispatcher for the Plymouth County Communications Center. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Jerry Young of Camden Point, Mo., and Danet and John Ketelsen of Sloan, Iowa; two sons, Mike and his wife Marcy, of Merill, and Rick of Merrill; nine grandchildren, Valerie, Travis, Jerry Jr., Carrie, Nicholas, Katie, Emily, David and Drew; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane Lindsey of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a sister and her husband, Colleen and Wendell Rhodes of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, on Jan. 9, 1998; and a son, Randy in 1976.

Norma Carter
VANCOUVER, Wash. - Norma Jean (Schroeder) Carter, 76, of Vancouver, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at her home.
Disposition was by cremation.

Mrs. Carter was born Mar. 23, 1921, in Hornick, Iowa. She later moved to Sioux City graduating from Central High School in 1938. She married Don E. Carter on Aug. 23, 1941.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Paula Jean of Corvallis, Ore., and Mary Anne DeBuhr of Vancouver, Wash; and one brother, Tommy M. Schroeder of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Morgan Schroeder; and a son, Jeffrey L. Carter.

Miles Warren
BELLFLOWER, Calif. - Miles Warren, 95, of Bellflower, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998 at Bellflower.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Berkemier Funeral Home in Sioux City with the Rev. James Bruch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mr. Warren was born Dec. 11, 1902, at Westfield, Iowa. He was raised in Westfield and lived in the Westfield-Akron area for many years. He was employed at Dirks Motor Co. in Akron for many years. He later moved to Sioux City and was employed for a number of years at Kidder Knoepfler Motor Co. He moved to California in 1960. He was Catholic. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by seven sons, Bob and his wife, Orlanda, of Bellflower, Don, of California, Richard and his wife, Pat, of Sioux City, Dennis and his wife, Shirley of Sioux City, Jim, of Akron, Milan and his wife, Elaine of Bullhead, Ariz., and Charles and his wife, Jean of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Jerold Vanderham of Westfield; a brother and his wife, Leonard and Verna Warren of Sioux City; three sisters and their husbands, Josephine and Dale Taylor of Sioux City, Bonnie and Al De Grandmont of Galt, Calif., and Dottie and Harry Suckstorf of McCook Lake, S.D.; 28 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Clifford; and three grandchildren.

Helen M. Holck
PAULLINA, Iowa - Helen Mary Holck, 78, of Paullina died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998 at the Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, with the Rev. Steven Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.

Mrs. Holck was born Nov. 21, 1919, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Hoppe) Ebel in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Iona, Minn. She received her education in country schools in the Iona, Minn., area. She married LeRoy Holck on June 12, 1937 in Elk Pint, S.D. The couple farmed many years northwest of Paullina, until moving into town in 1978. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and the Ladies Aid of the church. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and cooking.

Survivors include her husband; five sons and their wives, Duaine and Sally, Gary and Ann, Dennis and Sue, all of Spencer, Roger and Pat Holck of Grinnell, Iowa, and Chris and Kathy of Austin, Minn.; a daughter and her husband, Claris and Norman Stevens of Beatrice, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Velma Dau and Clara Sickelka, both of Sutherland, Iowa, and Lillian Lage of Audubon, Minn.; three brothers, Roy Ebel and Harry Ebel, both of Paullina, and Donald Ebel of Sutherland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Allan Stevens; and a sister, Bernice Stamer.

Joseph Oberreuter
DANBURY, Iowa - Joseph Adam Oberreuter, 87, of Danbury died Thursday at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., followed by a rosary said by the Knights of Columbus at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Oberreuter was born, Oct. 18, 1910, the son of William and Louisa (Schulte) Oberreuter, in Danbury. He attended grade school at Norway, Iowa, returning to Danbury to farm in 1935. He married Anna Dirksen on Feb. 12, 1936, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. He farmed until 1978. He entered Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa in 1997.

He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, serving as a director for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2839 and a 4th Degree Knight.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Irvin and Elleen of Danbury, Bill and Betty of Battle Creek, and Leon and Joanne of Ridgefield, Wash.; five daughters and their husbands, Kay and Clem Wessling of Danbury, JoAnn and John Allmon of Crescent, Iowa, Nancy and Richard Bejune of Northridge, Calif., Connie and Bob Barrett of Sioux City, Iowa, and Janet and Mike Kellum of Parkersburg, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Al and Agnes of Watkins, Iowa and Clem and Lorraine of Blairstown, Iowa; 33 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Mark and Francis; a sister, Mary Boddicker; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Mary's Catholic School in Danbury.

Hattie Migis
GROVE, Okla. - Hattie Louise Migis, 91, of Grove, formerly of Omaha, Neb. died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998 in the Grove Nursing Center after a short illness.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Logan, Cemetery, in Sioux City. Visitation will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

Mrs. Migis was born June 19, 1906, the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth (Wigerema) Morse, in Sioux City, Iowa. She married Joseph P. Migis on July 20, 1928 in Elk Point, S.D. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1964. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include, a son, Ronald Paul and his wife Mary Jane of Grove; four grandchildren, Kathleen Rubeo, Cheryl Crittenden, Joseph Migis, and James Migis; six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Hospice, 2116 S. Main, Grove, Okla. 74344, or the American Cancer Society.

SUTHERLAND, Iowa - Jim Hulser, 64, of Sutherland, died Thursday at home.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Beck
GREENVILLE, Iowa - Janet Beck, 55, of Greenville died Friday at home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Congregational Church in Greenville. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Otto Kroger
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Otto Kroger, 87, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Inwood, Iowa, died Wednesday at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Donald R. Creekmur
PONCA, Neb. - Donald R. Creekmur, 59, of Ponca, formerly of Moville, Iowa, died Thursday in Ponca.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Moville Evangelical Church. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

SHELDON, Iowa - Tena Jasperse, 94, of Sheldon died Thursday at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WAKEFIELD, Neb. - Mabelle Lundahl, 94, of Wakefield died Thursday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Frank E. Schnoes
PAULLINA, Iowa - Frank E. Schnoes, 74, of Paullina died Thursday at the Orange City Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa. Burial with military rites will be in the Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present at 7 p.m. and a Scripture Wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.
