Albert M. Grout Jr.
Albert M. Grout Jr., 78, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Grout was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Albert M. and Hattie Mae (Cook) Grout Sr. He was employed with Lewis System, now known as Wells Fargo, and then with Sioux Tools.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 54 and the American Legion Monahan Post 64.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Grout of Sioux City and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Donald J. Kemmish
Donald J. Kemmish, 84, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at his residence.
There will be no services or visitation. The body was cremated. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kemmish was born May 13, 1913, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1931.
He married Helen Reckeagle on Oct. 16, 1933. She died Jan. 5, 1970. He married Shirley Rushing on Sept. 30, 1971, in International Falls, Minn.
From 1939 to 1978, he owned and operated several businesses in the area, while working as a conductor with Milwaukee Railroad.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Mary and James O'Hern of Sioux City; a son, Robert Cooper of Palm Springs, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Helena T. Hattig
Helena T. Hattig, 89, of South Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Dixon, Neb. Burial will be in Concord City Cemetery at Concord, Neb. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Bobby J. Rosenbaum
Bobby Joe Rosenbaum, 41, formerly of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at his residence in Yakima, Wash. following a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be held in Yakima and a private memorial service in Sioux City at a later date.
Mr. Rosenbaum was born July 1, 1956, in Sioux City, the son of Virgil A. Rosenbaum and Ruthann Tague. He graduated from East High School in 1975, and from Western Iowa Technical Community College in 1977.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ruthann and Jerry Tague of Sioux City; a daughter, Heather Givins of Sioux City; two grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, George and Tracy Rosebaum and Fred and Beth Tague, all of Sioux City and Gary and Sheryl Rosenbaum of Witchita, Kan.; a sister, Loriann Tague of Sioux City; a half brother, Le Roy Rosenbaum of Sioux City; and two half sisters, Betty Jean and Dieonna.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Charles and Hattie Rosenbaum.
Frances K. Vogelzang
Frances K. Vogelzang, 91, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30. 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vogelzang was born March 23, 1906, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Pottoff) Schumacher. She graduated from Hawarden, Iowa High School in 1924.
She married Frank Vogelzang on Sept. 20, 1928, in Hawarden. He died May 14, 1967, in Sioux City. She taught country school from 1924 to 1928. She was employed as a seamstress at Younkers for 27 years.
Survivors include a son, Frank of Sioux City; four daughters, Carmen Groth of Sioux City, Elinor and her husband Dennis Martin of Berkley, Mass., Joyce and her husband Wayne Gronemeyer and Mary Lou and her husband Curtis Ross, all of Le Mars, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Louis Schumacher; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Lillian Kirchman, 91, of Sioux City died Thursday; Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Violet Archer
WHITING, Iowa - Violet Elizabeth "Buddy" Archer, 82, of Whiting died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Township Cemetery at rural Soldier, Iowa. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Archer was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Blencoe, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Lucy (Richardson) Steward.
She married Murl Archer on July 8, 1933. The couple farmed in the Moorhead and Soldier areas. He died March 23, 1979, in Onawa. She lived in the Center Heights in Onawa, before moving to Pleasant View 11 years ago.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Alice of Moorhead and Frank and Cynthia of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Joyce and her husband Earl Shearer of Onawa, Phyllis and her husband Edwin Brown of Sioux City and Sharon Thompson of Onawa; two sisters, Edna Campbell and Lavone Edmonds, both of Onawa; a brother, Carey Steward of Onawa; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Everett, Guy, Donnie, Ernest and Harold; two sisters, Dorothy Kepner and Martha Christiansen; a son-in-law, Earl Thompson; and a grandson, Ronald Archer.

DENISON, Iowa - Frank J. Barone, 42, of Harlan, Iowa, formerly of Denison, died Monday at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. There will be no visitation. Pfannebecker Funeral Home of Denison is in charge of the arrangements.

HULL, Iowa - Norwyn T. Bloemandaal, 32, of Hull died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Sioux Center, Iowa Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be form 1 to 5 p.m. today at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Visitation will resume from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present, at the church.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Marie Bouwman, 76, of Orange City died Wednesday at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City is in charge of the arrangements.
Alvin H. Bruning
MAPLETON, Iowa - Alvin Herman "Al" Bruning, 93, of Mapleton died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edgar Bode officiating. His body was donated to the University of Nebraska Medical School. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Bruning was born Sept. 25, 1904, in Bruning, Neb., the son of George and Louise (Reichert) Bruning. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from the Bruning High School.
He married Hazel Lapcheska on Dec. 24, 1930. He was employed with the Bruning State Bank and banks in West Bend, Neb. and Salix, Iowa. In 1942, he was employed as an assistant cashier with Mapleton Trust and Savings Bank. He retired as vice president in 1974.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where he held many offices. He was the founder of Mapleton Community Club and held offices on the school board in the 1950s and 1960s. He served on the board of the Valley Bank and Trust in Mapleton and Maple Heights Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Enid and Bill Creswell of Milford, Iowa and Karen and Tom Heffner of Groveland, Calif.; six grandchildren, Cynthia Young, Carrie Smalley, Rebecca Glad, Kristine Heffner, Jeff and Lyn Creswell; 14 great-grandchildren; as a brother, Leon Bruning of Bruning, Neb.
Memorials may be directed to either St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Maple Heights Nursing Home or various Christian mission of the family's choice.
Jacob De Jong
CHANCELLOR, S.D. - Jacob De Jong, 90, of Chancellor died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chancellor Reformed Church. Burial will be in Chancellor Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home in Lennox, S.D.
Mr. De Jong was born Feb. 12, 1907, in the Netherlands. He came to the United States and Colton, S.D. in 1925.
He married Elvie DeBulten on March 17, 1931, in Humboldt, S.D. The couple farmed near Humboldt and moved to the Chancellor area in 1937, where they farmed. He entered the nursing home in December 1997.
He was a member of Chancellor Reformed Church, the Senior Citizens, the Turner Chorus and Bell Choir and the Turner County Fair Board.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bennett of Tea, S.D., Marvin of Chancellor, James of Sheldon, Iowa and Donald of Spearfish, S.D.; a daughter, Marcine DeNeui of Spearfish, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Baukje Tiesma of the Netherlands.
Rodney E. Hammond
LE MARS, Iowa - Rodney E. Hammond, 64, of West Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Dec. 13, 1997, in West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center of Lymphoma.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Hammond was born April 13, 1933, in Sioux City, the son of Earl and Eunice (Rogers) Hammond. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1951. He attended the University of Colorado, receiving his bachelor of arts degree in pre-law. While at the university, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau.
He was commissioned into the United States Navy in June 1955, as a naval aviator.
He worked as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch in New York City for the past two years. He was a professor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, Mass. He obtained his masters of business administration in June of 1970, from New York University. In California, he was a counselor with the Assistance League of Southern California.
Survivors include his brother, Richard Hammond of Longmount, Colo.; a niece, Gabriele Hammond; two nephews, Andrew and Nathaniel Hammond; and an uncle and aunt.

John M. Heilman
IDA GROVE, Iowa - John Marvin Heilman, 76, of Ida Grove died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. John Schauer and the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Visitation will resume from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Heilman was born Dec. 24, 1921, near Cushing, Iowa, the son of Harry A. and Eva G. (Baumann) Heilman. He was baptized in the Methodist faith and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Battle Township and Cushing. He served in the military with the 4th Airdrome Squadron in New Guinea from 1942 to 1945.
He married Sylvia L. Ehler on Jan. 27, 1946, in Ida Grove. The couple farmed in Logan Township for 52 years, where he was still farming and maintaining a dairy operation.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Cushing. He received the Vocational FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award and a 1972 Soil Conservation Farm Award. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Richard Schmidt and Sallie and Dennis Miesner, all of Ida Grove; a son and his wife, Jerry and Teresa of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Rachelle and Kevin Schmidt, Nathan, Tiffani, Christopher, Nicholas and Katelyn Heilman, Jessica, Jeffrey and Curtis Miesner; three sisters and their husbands, Ruth and George Hoffman of Ida Grove, Doris and Everett Still of Cushing and Wilma and Donald Hammer of Arthur, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, Ross and Jeanette of Rockwell City, Iowa, Harry "Dan" and Shirley of Logan, Minn. and Bob and Marilyn of Cushing; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis and her husband Glenn Still of Glava, Iowa, Velda and her husband Raymond Lohff of Holstein, Iowa and Enid Ehler of Ida Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven John; four grandchildren, Nancy, Jacqueline, Kristina and Randall Schmidt; and two brothers-in-law, Vernon and Francis Ehler.
Loyal Homan
REMSEN, Iowa - Loyal Homan, 76, of Remsen died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba and the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters, at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Homan was born Nov. 9, 1921, in rural Alton, Iowa, the son of George and Josephine (Arens) Homan. The family moved near Oyens, Iowa, where he was raised and attended St. Catherine's School. He then farmed with his parents.
He married Francie Mae Mousel on Jan. 28, 1946, in Alton. The couple lived near Alton, where he was a carpenter. In 1949, they moved near Remsen, where they farmed. They retired and moved into Remsen in 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Harvey and Bev of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Kim and Randy Frericks of Le Mars, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chad and Rayann Homan and Justin and Gina Frericks; two brothers and their wives, Milo and Delia and Dale and Sharon, all of Remsen; and a brother-in-law, Donald Pick of Oyens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Pick.
Pallbearers will be Rich Arens, Chad Homan, Jay Jenness, Dale Mousel, Eric Reuter and Rick Sitzmann.
Monty R. Hupke
BATTLE CREEK, Iowa - Monty Rae Hupke, 43, of Indianola, Iowa, formerly of Battle Creek, died of a heart attack Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, with Dr. Herb Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Hupke was born June 14, 1954, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Delbert John and Bev Jean (Schumacher) Hupke. He was raised in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1973. He then attended AIB in Des Moines for two years.
He married Tyann Lori Bainbridge on June 13, 1992. He was employed as a systems administrator with Norwest Mortgage Company in Des Moines and previously as a computer programmer analyst for Kirk-Van Orsdale in Des Moines and the Warren County Courthouse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Amber Leann and Dylan Delbert Hupke, both at home; his parents of Battle Creek; two brothers, Timothy of Mapleton and Scott Jon and his wife Cindy of Battle Creek; his maternal grandmother, Helen Schumacher of Ida Grove; two nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Delbert; his maternal grandfather, Lester Schumacher; and paternal grandparents, John and Mary Hupke.
Anna Kragt
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Anna Kragt, 92, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Kragt was born Jan. 26, 1905, near Hull, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Johanna (Wiersma) Brouwer. She attended Christian Grade School and graduated from Western Christian Academy in Hull. She received Normal Training in Orange City, Iowa. She taught school at Sioux Center, Perkins and rural Hull, Iowa.
She married John Kragt in 1931 in Hull. The couple lived in Little Rock, Hull, George, Melvin and Doon, Iowa, before moving to Rock Valley in 1946. The couple were tour directors with Allied Tour Company from 1964 to the mid 1980s. She also taught piano and accompanied many musical groups. He died Jan. 8, 1990.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Dr. Edwin and Mina of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Dr. Preston and Mary Lee of Sebring, Fla., Dr. Harvey and Elaine of Colfax, Wash., Dr. Joel and Karen of Bella Vista, Ark. and Dr. John and Pamela of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and her twin Richard Brouwer; and a sister, Gertrude Juffer.
Tillie Kuiken
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Tillie Kuiken, 94, of Orange City died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. David Sterk officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Township Cemtery near Maurice, Iowa. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mrs. Kuiken was born Nov. 16, 1903, in Hospers, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Susie (Holtrop) Scheeringa. She was raised in Ornage City.
She married Martin Kuiken on Jan. 22, 1925, in Orange City. The couple lived in Maurice, Orange City, George and Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1976, they returned to Orange City. In April 1984, they entered the Pioneer Memorial Home. He died Oct. 6, 1992, in Rock Valley, Iowa.
She was a member of First Reformed Church and First Reformed Church in Hull and Sioux Center.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Donald and Margaret of Luverne, Minn., Harold and Wilma of Sioux Center, Stanley and Ann of Rapid City, S.D. and Martin and Sherrill of Canon City, Colo.; two daughter and their husbands, Glenda and Glen Schut of Piedmont, S.D. and Beverly and Ronald Brink of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Maggie Siebersma, Hattie Oolman and Sue Ver Steeg, all of Orange City and Catherine Vogelaar of Escondido, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and two sisters, Edith Vink and Jennie Muilenburg.
Elaine Little
HILLS, Minn. - Elaine Little, 87, of Hills, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, died Tuesday at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Roste Funeral Home in Hills. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Flowerfield Cemetery. There will be no vistation.
Theodore R. Moeller
AKRON, Iowa - Theodore "Ted" Ray Moeller, 54, of Akron died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron and the 185th Air National Guard of Sioux City. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mr. Moeller was born March 29, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Ervin and Lucile (Barnes) Moeller. He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. for one year. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Korea and Vietnam.
He married Dorothy Krumm on June 7, 1969, in Emery, S.D. The couple lived in Sioux City. He served as a police officer with the Cherokee Police Department and as a deputy sheriff with Dickinson County, prior to moving to Akron in 1976. He was then employed with Dirks Motors for four years in the service department. He was a state security guard with the 185th Air National Guard for 18 years.
He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, where he served as a lay minister, and the Plymouth County Geneology Club. He served as the Plymouth County weapons instructor. He enjoyed sports and computers.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dayle and his wife Heather of Sioux City and Derek at home; a sister and her husband, Jana and Bruce Volkert of Correctionville, Iowa; and a brother and his wife, Dennis and Sharon of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Michael and Barbara Krumm.
Pallbearers will be Greg Barnes, Ed Hamilton, Vern Wingert, Darrell Peters, George Klimiades and Larry Kollbaum.

SHELDON, Iowa - Hube W. Muilenburg, 84, of Sheldon died Tuesday at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.

WALL LAKE, Iowa - Lloyd O. Paysen, 78, of Wall Lake died Wednesday at the Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Earl T. Rose, 89, of Spirit Lake died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Masonic service conducted by Twilight Lodge 327 at 7 p.m., at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

OCHEYEDAN, Iowa - John B Runia, 68, of Ocheyedan died Tuesday at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan. Burial will be in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. Andringa Funeral Home of Ocheyedan is in charge of the arrangements.

ONAWA, Iowa - Lola L. Shultz, 95, of Whiting, formerly of Onawa died Wednesday at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.

QUIMBY, Iowa - Leland H. Smith, 74, of Quimby died Thursday at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa following a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m., at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in Quimby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Violette A. Stanfield
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Violette A. Stanfield, 86, of Cherokee died Tuesday at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Community Church in Union, Iowa. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Saturday, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation will resume from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Elmer E. Tammen
LE MARS, Iowa - Elmer Tammen, 78, of Le Mars died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa, with the Rev. Douglas Dowling officiating. Burial will be in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 of Brunsville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Tammen was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Tony and Anna (Ludwigs) Tammen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Grant Township.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to the family farm, where he farmed until retiring in 1979, and moved to Merrill, Iowa. He entered the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in December 1996.
He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 and the Plymouth County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include a brother, Henry of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Lily Tammen of Merrill and Viola Tammen of Dell Rapids, S.D.; three nephews; six nieces; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, George and Edward; a sister, Clara Tammen; two sisters-in-law, Nora Tammen and Emma Tammen; and four nephews.
Brittany J. Zobel
GALVA, Iowa - Brittany Jean Zobel, infant daughter of Kendall and Margaret Zobel of Galva, was stillborn Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove, with the Rev. John Schauer and the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Survivors include her parents of Galva; a stepbrother, Jared Zobel of Galva; a stepsister, Christie Zobel of Battle Creek, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Delores McKibban of Early, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Victor and Lois Zobel of Ida Grove; and numerous aunts and uncles.
