Swen Lars Anderson
Swen Lars Anderson, 90, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Last officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangement.

Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 10, 1907, near Norberg in the province of Vastmanland, Sweden, the son of Anders and Jenny Andersson. He emigrated to Beresford, S.D. in 1926, and moved to Sioux City in 1929, where he was employed with Smith Electric. In the early 1930s, he and other partners founded the Scandinavian Bakery.

He married Ruth Johnson on June 27, 1936, in Sioux City. In the 1940s, he became a partner in Smith Electric, which became known as All Power, Inc. in 1955. Later Fabricators and Industrial Diversified, Inc. were also formed.

He was a co-founder of the Scandinavian Club, now known as the Scandinavian Societies. He was a member of Vasa and a past member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Gary and Judy of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Linnea Anderson of Chicago, Ill. and Lisa Lines and her husband Dennis of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Greg Anderson and Holly Lines; a sister, Gulli Johnson of Avesta, Sweden; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be directed to Augustana Lutheran Church.

Jess L. Cook
Jess L. Cook, 70, of Sioux City died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Ring, pastor, and the Rev. Stanley L. Cook, associate pastor of Glad Tidings Lighthouse in South Sioux City, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Cook was born March 15, 1927, in Sioux City, the son of Jess W. and Hazel (Davis) Cook. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1954.

He married Marlyne Kilzer on April 20, 1969, in Onawa, Iowa. He was employed with Armour and Company for many years until it closed.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mark, Jim W. and his wife Tina and Jesse C. and his fiancee Susan P., all of Sioux City and Lonnie of Anamosa, Iowa; a daughter, Eydie Cook and her fiance Scott of Sioux City; a stepson, John Hudson of Sioux City; a stepdaughter and her husband, Edna and Kevin King of Sioux City; four brothers, Don, Ralph and his wife Lynette and Robert, all of Sioux City and Danny Wayne of Lugoff, S.C.; six sisters, Emma and her husband Tom Craig and Mary Cook, all of Sioux City, Clara Craig and Verna and her husband Luther Butler, all of Mesa, Ariz., Virginia Cook of Milwaukee, Wis. and Patty and her husband Charles Caplan of Lake Charles, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Mark Cook, Martin Babcock, John Hudson, Len Barker, Cliff Olsen and Joe Allison.

Dannie J. Derby
Dannie J. Derby, 53, of McCook Lake died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Larkin Northside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Derby was born May 12, 1944, in Sioux City. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1962. He served in the Iowa National Guard with the 113th Infantry and was called to active duty to serve in Vietnam War.

He married Jeanne Bartek on April 28, 1972, in Sioux City. He owned and operated several business in the Siouxland area.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Cory of Jefferson, S.D.; three daughters, Amie, Emma and Patty Derby, all of McCook Lake; a brother and his wife, Raymond and Janice of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his mother, Josephine Derby of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Dannie Jr. and Jasmine Derby; and two aunts.

Pallbearers will be Dick Harper, Steve and Mike Bartek, Kevin Kirwan, Greg Dunn, Kelly Rooney, Mike Trudell and Brad Moore.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Byron L. Wilkinson
Bryon L. Wilkinson, 83, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Elder Robert Smith, of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilkinson was born May 26, 1914, in Hiteman, Iowa, the son of Lehi and Margaret J. (Watkins) Wilkinson. He attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa for two years. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachlor of science degree in accounting in 1935. He moved to Sioux City in 1935.

He married Delpha G. Hawley on Oct. 17, 1936, in Sioux City. He was employed as a certified public accountant with Goldberg-Wilkinson-Redshaw Firm, until retiring 1990.

He was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a past president of Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants and a past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Stephen L. and Barbara of St. Peter, Minn., John D. and Gail of Hickory, N.C. and Michael G. and Diane of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Ann Errington of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Deborah, Stephanie, Tracy, Lucas and Colin Wilkinson, Jeffrey Griffin, Melissa Rivera and Brian Ruede; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to either Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or the United Way.

Carol L.Christensen, 71, of Climbing Hill, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City died Tuesday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Clarence E. Bendlin
SPENCER, Iowa - Clarence Edward Bendlin, 75, of Spencer died Tuesday at the Dickinson County Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Meadow Township Cemetery at rural Langdon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Mary L. Bressler
PENDER, Neb. - Mary L. Bressler, 99, of Pender died Wednesday at a Pender hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Walt Denekas
GEORGE, Iowa - Walt Denekas, 74, of George died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the church. Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Edna Eggers
YANKTON, S.D. - Edna Eggers, 85, of Yankton died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, with the Rev. Craig Bock and the Rev. O.K. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Yankton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at the Ray-Lane Funeral Chapel in Yankton.

Mrs Eggers was born Sept. 28, 1912, in rural Utica, S.D., the daughter of Gust and Ragna (Geraldson) Hill. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was raised in rural Yankton and attended Prairie Elementary School 9, Yankton High School and Sioux Falls Business College. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Bellman Company until it closed. She returned to Yankton and was employed with Drier Creamery in the office for 11 years.

She married Herman Eggers on Sept. 2, 1938, in Denver, Colo. When he entered the U.S. Army, she returned to Yankton. She was employed with Drier Creamery, Northwestern Public Service, John Gregg Pontiac Sales Company and Sears Robuck. In 1950, the couple moved to Sioux Falls and managed the Egger's Midwest Oil Compnay for 17 years. They moved to Phoenix, Ariz. for one year before returning to Yankton in 1968. Following his death, she moved in with her brother before entering Sister James Nursing Home.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sharon and James List of Yankton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley E. Juracek of Yankton.

She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Donald Olson, Ed Houska, Merlin Larsen, De. Neil Wainwright, Lyle Malne and Vernon Lee.

Paul Eisenmenger
VERMILLION, S.D. - Paul Eisenmenger, 80, of Vermillion died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion. There will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. today at the church.

Ray Eldridge
DICKENS, Iowa - Ray Eldridge, 67, of Dickens died Thursday at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dickens Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Clay County Post 3159 of Spencer, Iowa. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Edna Haack
LE MARS, Iowa - Edna Haack, 82, of Le Mars died Wednesday at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, ELCA in Le Mars. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Lena Hagedon
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Lena Hagedon, 79, of Rock Rapids died Wednesday at the Rock Rapids Health Centre.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Fern Rice
CONCORD, Neb. - Fern Rice, 82, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Concord, died Wednesday at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Evangelical Free Church in Concord. Private family burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Schumacher Funeral Home in Wayne, Neb.

Lorraine Schumann
LAWTON, Iowa - Lorraine Schumann, 74, of Lawton died Monday at her sister's residence in Odebolt, Iowa.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial services are tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Arthur Syndergaard
SPENCER, Iowa - Arthur Syndergaard, 99, of Spencer died Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Everly, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Frances Weifenbach
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Frances Weifenbach, 81, of Odebolt died Monday at her residence.
