Althemous Hardgraves, 85, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

SPC Jeremy Ray Combs
SPC Jeremy Ray Combs, 24, of Sioux City, died Monday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Harold C. Petersen
DENISON, Iowa - Harold C. Petersen, 75, of Phoenix, formerly of Denison, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, in Phoenix after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Carr-Tenney Mortuary in Phoenix.

Mr. Petersen was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Moville, Iowa, the son of William and Anna (Miller) Petersen. He was raised in Moville and graduated from Moville High School. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was the retired owner of Maple Valley Construction Company.

Survivors include his wife, DoLores; two sons, Stuart and Harold; a daughter, Susan Hendrickson; a step-daughter, Candace Fritz; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Conner and Alma Donnell.

Florence M. Saterlie
VERMILLION, S.D. - Florence Mildred Saterlie, 95, of Mitchell, S.D., formerly of Vermillion, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Mrs. Saterlie was born March 1, 1903, in Dalesburg, S.D., the daughter of Charles and Hilda (Peterson) Lyckholm. She was educated in Vermillion and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of South Dakota in June, 1928. She taught elementary school in McLaughlin, S.D. for two years before she finished her final year of college. She married Wayne I. Saterlie June 24, 1928. They later moved to Mitchell. He died Aug. 9, 1988.

She was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Mitchell Garden Club and won many awards for her flower arrangements. She was active in her church, the United Church of Christ - Congregational, and was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Sedici, and Fortnightly.

She was a supporter and major donor to the Oscar Howe Art Center in Mitchell, the Oscar Howe Gallery at the University of South Dakota, the Saterlie Band Shell in Hitchcock Park, and the Friends of the Middle Border Museum in Mitchell. She was also a contributor to the Shrine to Music and Law School at U.S.D., and the Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Karla Gunderson Greenlee of Casper, Wyo., Beverly O'Conner Zieman of Postville, Iowa, Robert Morgan of Vermillion, and John and Nancy Morgan of Mitchell; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband; two sisters, Ethel Gunderson and Alice O'Conner; and a brother, Arnold Lyckholm.

Ivy I. Beyeler
NEWCASTLE, Neb. - Ivy I. (Hanson) Beyeler, 88 of Newcastle died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle. Burial will be in the Newcastle cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Neb.; and will resume at 6:30 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Beyeler was born June 17, 1910, in rural Ponca, the daughter of George and Jennie (Hansen) Hanson. She graduated from Newcastle Public School in 1928. She attended Wayne State College and the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, S.D. She taught in rural schools for three years. She married Sylvester A. Beyeler Dec. 20, 1931, at the Ponca Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society, and the Cemetery Guild. She was a past member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Newcastle Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies included gardening, sports, and poetry.

Survivors include her husband; nine daughters, Barbara and her husband, James Hoesing, of Newcastle, Robinette, and her husband, James Andersen, of Laramie, Wyo., Star and her husband, Ronald Nielsen, of Sioux City, Elaine and her husband, Gene Cantrell, of Dakota City, Cherie and her husband, Gene Bauer, of Spearfish, S.D., GeorJean and her husband, Gary Olson, of Dakota City, Carolyn and her husband, Robert Stanek, of Valley Center, Kan., Ivette and her husband, Lyle Bender, of Boone, Iowa, and Pamela Frank, of Holstein, Iowa; two sons, Vet Beyeler and his wife, Patti, of Newcastle, and Myrle Beyeler of Dodge City, Kan.; two sisters, Joyce Waite of Los Angeles, and Lyle Lanning of Brea, Calif.; 35 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Myrle, Doyle, Lloyd, and Russell Hanson; a sister, Blanche Amick; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Martin Hoesing, Jimmy Andersen, Kirk Nielsen, Terry Cantrell, Kurt Bauer, James and Todd Rasmussen, Beau Bender, and Brett Beyeler.

A memorial will be established in her name.

Laura BonDurant
SLOAN, Iowa - Laura Baier BonDurant, 89, of Dunedin, Fla., formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998, in Sloan Cemetery. Pearson Funeral Homes of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. BonDurant was born Feb. 28, 1908, in Delmont, S.D., the daughter of William Robert and Olga (Hehn) Baier. The family moved to Hornick, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1925. She earned a teaching certificate from Morningside College. She later worked for a bank in Sloan. She married William Robert BonDurant Feb. 12, 1934, in Canton, S.D. She was Past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked as a bookkeeper. In 1972, the couple retired to Dunedin from Evanston, Ill. Her hobbies were sewing, painting, bridge, and golf.

Survivors include three sons, Stephen of Redwood, N.Y., Edward of Champaign, Ill, and William of Woodside, Calif.; a daughter, Frances Will of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildre; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Arlo Baier, and Ray Baier; and a sister Norma Cameron.

William Bremer
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - William Henry Bremer, 88, of Holstein died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at his home.
Servces will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holstein United Methodist Church in Holstein with the Rev. Judith A. Piper officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Bremer was born Dec. 28, 1909, in Holstein, the son of John and Anna (Andresen) Bremer. He went to country school. He married Thelma Madsen on March 12, 1930, in Holstein. He farmed southwest of Holstein until moving into Holstein in 1976. He then went to work for Farmer Mutual Insurance Association in Schleswig, Iowa. He married Geneva Growth Dec. 6, 1979, in Holstein. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Alpine Lodge #471, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was elected to the Holstein Coop Elevator Board, and as a Trustee of Battle Township. He was also a member of Holstein Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Verdean and Theone Bremer of Ida Grove, Iowa; two stepchildren, Shirley and her husband, Donald Ewoldt, of Holstein, and LaVonne and her husband, Harold Nissen, of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; a daugher, Darlean; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina.

Aloysius Heying
GRANVILLE, Iowa - Aloysius Heying, 89, of Granville died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville with the Rev. Clem Currans, his nephews, Monsignor Leander Reicks, St Lucas, Iowa, and the Rev. Elmer Elsbernd S.F.D., Papua, New Guinea, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today with a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Heying was born Oct. 28, 1908, in rural Festina, Iowa, the son of John and Elizabeth (Bodensteiner) Heying. He was raised and educated in the Festina area. He married Marie Kuennen April 8, 1931, at Festina where they farmed for five years. They moved to north of Granville in 1936, where they farmed until retiring in 1972. He was a sales representative for Pioneer HiBred International for 30 years. They moved into Granville in 1980. In May, 1998, they moved to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He had served on St. Joseph's Church parish council and was a Floyd Township Trustee for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Arlene Vortherms, and Germaine and her husband, Joe Konz, all of Granville; three sons, Ken and his wife, Diane of Sioux City, Leonard of Granville, and Steve and his wife, Patti, of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Heying of Granville; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna and her husband, John Bohr, of Ossian, Iowa; and a brother and his wife, Hilarius and Josephine of West Union, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene, a son-in-law, Erwin Vortherms; six sisters, Elizabeth Gesing, Mary Reicks, Ida Elsbernd, Margaret Moellers, Hildegard Bohr, and Freda Buchheit; six brothers, Herman, Henry, Barney, John, Peter, and Joseph.

Pallbearers will be Chad, Dean, Randy, and Todd Heying, Brad and Dan Konz, and Dennis and Tom Vortherms.

Woodrow W. Sindt
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Woodrow W. "Buster" Sindt, 85, of Storm Lake, formerly of Ida Grove died Wednesday July 8, 1998, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:30 to 9 p.m. today with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. at Christiensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. The body has been cremated.

Mr. Sindt was born Nov. 24, 1912 in Holstein, Iowa, the son of William and Emma (Fick) Sindt. He grew up and received his education in Ida County. He married Virginia Kolb May 27, 1932, in Omaha, Neb. He operated the Conoco Gas Station in Ida Grove and was employed as a truck driver for many years. In the 1950s the couple owned and operated the Tip-Top Cafe and Rancho Drive-In in Ida Grove. He also drove school bus for many years. The couple moved to southern California in 1969, returning in 1992. She died in 1996. He moved to the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake in June 1993.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the church board. He was also a member and past master of the Masonic Kane Lodge #377, of Ida Grove, and was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City. He served on the Ida Grove City Council for numerous years. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Verhoef of Sun City, Ariz., and Roberta and her husband, Dale Fries, of Ida Grove; a grandson, Jay Fries; a great-grandson; a sister, Verona Rupert of Ida Grove; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by an infant son; and a brother, Melvin Sindt.

Lois A. Jons
PRIMGHAR, Iowa - Lois A. Jons, 73, of Primghar died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Church of Primghar with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.

Mrs. Jons was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Axel and Amanda (Magnuson) Johnson. She graduated from Aurelia High School and received her teacher's certificate from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in the Paullina School System. She married Bernerd Jons Aug. 15, 1948, in Cherokee, Iowa. She assisted him in the photography studio, Jons Gallery, which they founded and operated until their retirement.

She attended the United Church of Primghar and was active on the Primghar Library board and Eastern Star. The couple spent many winters in Fort Meyers. Fla.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Leann, and Rus Blank, of Kapowsin, Wash.; two sons and their wives, Leon and Belinda of Lincoln, Neb., and Lowell and Sam of Port Townsend, Wash.; six grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Art and Ione Johnson of Peterson, Iowa, Kenny and Elva Johnson of Cherokee, and Clayton and Pat Johnson of Dunlap, Ill.; a sister and her husband, Lillian and Martin Strampe of Primghar; a sister-in-law, Ella Johnson, of Aurelia; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Lance; and a brother, Verner.

Phyllis R. Corrington
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Phyllis R. Corrington, 77 of Cherokee, formerly of Quimby, died Wednesday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a short illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Quimby United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Quimby Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Robert Quist, Sr.
SPENCER, Iowa - Robert Duane Quist, Sr., 64, of Spencer died Wednesday at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

James D. Rohwer
PAULLINA, Iowa - James D. Rohwer, 59, of Hillsboro, Texas, formerly of the Paullina area, died Saturday at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina is in charge of the arrangements.

Esther Statema
SHELDON, Iowa - Esther Statema, 74, of Sheldon died Wednesday at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa. Visitation was Thursday. Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon is in charge of the arrangements.

Mable Knoell
DIXON, Neb. - Mable Knoell, 92, of Dixon, died Thursday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dixon United Methodist Church in Dixon. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Concord, Neb. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel, Neb.
