Harold Russell Edwards, 81, of Sioux City died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Marvin E. Monk
Marvin E. Monk, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westlawn Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Donna R. Ferris

Donna R. Ferris, 67, of Sioux City died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Thomas Begley officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ferris was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Frederick W. and Annabell Christina (Peterson) Mahl. She taught high school in Sioux Falls.

She married Victor Ferris on July 31, 1964, in Luverne, Minn. They moved to Sioux City. She was employed as a hostess with Green Gables for several years. She was also a substitute teacher for the Sioux City School District. He died Jan. 2, 1996, in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Anne Ferris of Sioux City; and several cousins.

Oscar M. Bergquist
Oscar M. Bergquist, 86, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital following a lenghty illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be in 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Lorraine E. Hilsinger
Lorraine E. Hilsinger, 81, of South Sioux City died Friday, July 17, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hilsinger was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Florence L. (Sparks) Garrett.

She married James L. Hilsinger Sr. on Aug. 30, 1936, in Le Mars, Iowa. She was employed with Wincharger, Sioux Bee Honey, Swift Produce and retired from Park Plaza.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, James L. Jr. of South Sioux City, William E. and his wife, Sandy, of North Sioux City and Robert W. of South Sioux City; four daughters, Barbara and her husband, Elwin Loker of Sioux City, Beverly Treglia of South Sioux City, Pauline and her husband, Cyril Groetken, of Yankton, S.D., and Patricia and her huband, Andrew O'Neal, of Whiting, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Ernistine "Janice" and Bill Butler of Juntura, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Garrett; four sisters, Eva Searls, Evelyn Siglin, Jerry Schockey and Dorothy Milin; and a grandson, Jeffrey O'Neal.

Pallbearers will be Jim Loker, T.J. Hilsinger, Dennis O'Neal, Dave Treglia Jr., Mike Groetken and Chris Jeffords.

Faye V. Stephan
Faye V. Stephan of South Sioux City died Friday at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

D. Richard Webb, 68, of Sioux City died Friday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Marian E. Ehrp
SCHALLER, Iowa - Marian Evelyn Ehrp, 80, of Schaller died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta, Iowa, with the Rev. Loren Carlson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Storm Lake, Iowa.

Mrs. Ehrp was born Jan. 13, 1918, in Alta, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Minnie (Hintz) Rydstrom. She graduated from Fairview (Iowa) Consolidated Schools.

She married William Harold Ehrp on Feb. 21, 1941, in Schaller. The couple farmed near Galva, Iowa, until 1942, when they moved to a farm near Schaller. She continued to live on the farm after he died in a farm accident in 1948. She enjoyed milking cows, gardening and reading.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Warren and Linda, Donald and Dianne and Ronald and Candace, all of Schaller; a daughter, Carolyn Wiese of Arvada, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua William; and two brothers, Wilbur and John in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Tory Wiese, Brian, Matt, Chad, Darren, Dale and Sean Ehrp.

Ray Coon
MOVILLE, Iowa - Ray Coon, 82, of Moville died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Alberto I. Ranson
Alberto I. Ransom, 1-year-old son of Hector G. and Martha Ransom of Sioux City, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Cathedral of the Epiphany with the Rev. Randy J. Guerdet, associate pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. today at the Larkin Northside Funeral home and then from 6:15 p.m. until service time at the Cathedral. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in the Marian section of Calvary Cemetery.

Alberto was born on July 10, 1997, in Sioux City, the son of Hector G. and Martha (Inigo) Ransom.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Miguel, and one sister, Margaret, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Jose and Margarita Inigo of Cancun, Mexico; his paternal grandmother, Maria Luc Gonzales, of Mexico; his maternal great grandfather, Rodolfo Inigo of Mexico City, and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Warren Ransom.

D. Richard Webb
D. Richard Webb, 68, of Sioux City died Friday, July 17, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Craig Mellendorf, pastor of Central Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and the family present from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Webb was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of William and Carrie (Hassett) Webb. He married Carol L. Swearengin on Jan. 18, 1964, in Paramount, Calif.

He worked at Sioux Tools for 22 years, retiring in 1991 due to ill health.

He was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Sioux City; one son and his wife, Steven and Carole-Joy of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Cheryl Kunkel and her fiance, Steve Holverson, of Hornick, Iowa, and Kristina Sprouse of Sioux City; four sisters, Mary Jones, Faye Kinnaman, JoAnn Swearengin and Carol Gastro and her husband, Larry, all of Sioux City, and two grandchildren, Amber Webb and Jessica Holverson.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Tony Webb and Willis Gregg, and one sister, Bonnie Urquhart.

Pallbearers will be Randy Kinnaman, Larry Gastro, Gary Burton, Brian Andrie, Kelly Andrie, Nathan Sprouse, Steve Holverson and Jim Huisman.

Faye Viola Stephan
SOUTH SIOUX CITY - Faye Viola Stephan, 80, of South Sioux City, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at a South Sioux City nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. Terry and Nancy Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Stephan was born Feb. 13, 1918, in rural Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of William and Emma M. (Smith) Newman. She married Samuel S. "Sam" Stephan on June 22, 1935, in Dakota City. He died Aug. 24, 1995, in South Sioux City.

She was employed at various businesses in South Sioux City and was co-owner of Stephan Welding for 30 years.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Naomi Circle and belonged to the Dakota County Historical Society.

Survivors include three sons and their wives: Ralph and Cleo, Rich and Barb and Ron and Katy, all of South Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by a daughter, Ramona Stephan Rohde.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Ricky, Todd and Ralph Stephan, Jr.; Jason and Troy Rohde; Keith Blom; Devlin Bertrand; Eugene Lahn, and Scott Gorski.

Etta Belle Baker
Etta Belle Baker, 86, of Sioux City, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home with Noel Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Baker was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of John Earl and Rosa Bell (Blackford) Watkins. She married Raymond C. Baker on Dec. 3, 1933. He died in 1993.

She attended school at Oto, Iowa, and moved to Sioux City in the late 1920s.

She worked at Davenport Cleaners and Fethkes Dry Cleaners. She was a Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include a sister, Alda Gaines of Wheatland, Wyo.; a brother, Verle Watkins of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

Betty J. Dicks
Betty J. Dicks, 70, of Sioux City, died Saturday at her residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and the family present from 6 to 9 p.m.

Paul W. Sorensen
Paul W. Sorensen, 81, of Sioux City, died Saturday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church under the direction of Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home. There will be no visitation or burial. The body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical Center.

F. Edwin and Elsa Johnson
Committal services for the cremains of F. Edwin and Elsa Johnson of Sun City, Ariz., and Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Aug. 18, 1977, when the couple lived in Sun City. Mrs. Johnson died Jan. 16, 1998, while living in Manchester.

Jerome B. Jaynes
Jerome "Jerry" Bertman Jaynes, 59, of Moreno Valley, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died of a heart attack Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at the Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas.
Services were held Saturday, June 27, at the Rose Hills Mortuary in Whitter, Calif. Burial was in Rose Hills Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Jaynes was born June 24, 1938, in Sioux City, the son of Bert and Nellie Jaynes. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959.

He had lived in Moreno Valley for 15 years. He was employed as a truck driver for Von's Markets in Santa Fe, Calif. for 20 years.

He was a member of the Metropolitan Club, a car club.

Survivors include his wife, Cherie; a daughter, Melissa Mitchell of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Rick and Randy, both of Moreno Valley; a grandchild; and two sisters, Muriel "Mickey" Imperial of Norwalk, Calif., and Joan Lawson of Brice, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; and a sister, Janice (Jaynes) Hughes.

Oscar M. Bergquist
Oscar M. Bergquist, 86, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lenghty illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be in 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Bergquist was born April 18, 1912, in New Norway, Alberta, Canada. He moved with his family to Mitchell, S.D. as the age of 5. He moved to Sioux City in 1939.

He married Eunice Tonsfeldt on Feb. 21, 1942, in Sioux City. He was employed as a machinist with Sioux Tools for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was also a part time musician with several local dance bands.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the machinist and musicians unions.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Craig and Julie of Merrill, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Tom Arens of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Esther and Don Bates of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Curt, John and Jay Bergquist, Kyle Waggoner and Allison Taylor; two stepgrandchildren, Jill and Brooke Arens; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jean Bergquist of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Frances Church of Omaha, Neb.; and a niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Clint William Bergquist; and four brothers, Ralph, Gene, Theodore and August.

Memorials may be directed to the Big Sioux Chapter Alzheimer's Association or Wesley United Methodist Church.

Marvin E. Monk
Marvin E. Monk, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Monk was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Oto, Iowa, the son of Clem and Lela (Coon) Monk.

He married Beverly Carlson on Sept. 29, 1973, in Sioux City. He was employed as a truck driver with American Freight and Hirschback Motor Lines for 45 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973, and enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dale Dailey and his wife, Arlene, and Gary Dailey and his wife, Krys, all of Sioux City and Arnold Dailey of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Terri Martin of Hamet, Calif.; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evenlyn Hollman; and an infant brother, Aaron.

A memorial fund will be established in his name.

Harold "Hig" Russell Edwards, 81, of Sioux City died Friday, July 17, 1998, at a Sioux City Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born March 2, 1917, in Craig, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Mayme (Russ) Edwards. He moved with his family to Sioux City as a child. He attended Cooper Elementary School and East High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

He married Phyllis Curtis on Feb. 8, 1947, in Sioux City. He was employed with M & S Company, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Roy and Debi of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter and her husband, Vickie and Vincent Henrichsen of Sioux City; a brother, Russ of Sioux City; a sister, Myrtle Smith of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Tracy Walbert, Shelly Clarey, Brooke and Megan Edwards; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Beverly A. O'Meara
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Beverly A. O'Meara, 67, of Storm Lake, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be all day today at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Storm Lake. A Legion of Mary rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. today and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. O'Meara was born April 16, 1931, in Silvercreek Township, Ida County, the daughter of Chris and Anna (Rex) Daugaard. She attended country schools and graduated from Holstein High School in 1949. She married William L. O'Meara on Feb. 3, 1951, in Holstein.

The couple lived in Holstein and Galva, where Mrs. O'Meara worked at Ruhlow Hardware. They published the Galva Shopper. She also worked as a postal clerk in Holstein. The couple moved to Storm Lake in 1965 where she worked for Buena Vista Stationery & Printing for about 20 years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and baking.

Survivors include her husband; her mother of Holstein; four daughters: Debra O'Meara of Eugene, Ore., Connie and her husband, Steven, Sippel of Schaller, Iowa, Teresa and her husband, Richard, Mahn of Pflugerville, Texas, and Mary and her husband, Kevin, Richardson of Storm Lake; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Joann Daugaard of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters and their husbands, Dorothea and Wilbur Moller of Holstein and Shirley and Keith Kuxhausen of Longmount, Colo.; nine grandchildren: Nick, Sarah, Daniel, Thomas and Chelsea Sippel; Jason and Marissa Mahn, and Simone and Alexander Richardson; one great granddaughter, and nieces and nephews.

Phyllis "Sally" Weathers
AURELIA, Iowa - Phyllis M. "Sally" Weathers, 70, of Aurelia, Iowa, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United United Methodist Church in Aurelia with the Rev. Jack Weida officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. today at the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. An Order of Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Weathers was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Jens and Eleanor Sophia (Hansen) Christensen. She married Richard Weathers on Feb. 19, 1947, in Ponca, Neb.

She was a homemaker. For two years, she worked at the Wincharger plant in Sioux City and later for Honsbruch Drug of Aurelia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Carnation O.E.S. Lodge in Cherokee. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting, camping and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Nancy Lynn Countryman of Moville; three sons and their wives: Joseph and Diane of Moville, Dennis and Connie of Salix and Jim and Paula of Aurelia; nine grandchildren, Kelly, Chris and Katie Countryman, Ryan, Jason, Andrew, Nathan, Tieg and Bill Weathers; two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lavonne Murphy.

Gordon Den Herder
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Gordon Den Herder, 85, of rural Sioux Center, Iowa, died Saturday at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, following by services at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, with the family present from 2 to 3 p.m.

Ray Buddenhagen
AURELIA, Iowa - Ray Buddenhagen, 51, of Washington, Mo., formerly of Aurelia, Iowa, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Missouri.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Aurelia, with the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home of Aurelia assisting.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann, of Washington; two sons, Jason of Washington and Brian of Los Lunas, N.M.; his mother, Rosa Buddenhagen of Aurelia; a sister and her husband, Donna and Jim Hoefling of Marcus, Iowa; three brothers, Jim and his wife, Ruth, of Humbolt, Iowa, Ronald of Cranbrook, British Columbia, and David and his wife, Chris, of Springfield, Neb., and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial fund has been established in his name for St. Paul Lutheran Church of Union, Mo.

LITTLE ROCK, Iowa - Onno Heidebrink, 91, of Little Rock, Iowa, died Friday at a hospital in Sibley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, with the Rev. Brian Hellenga officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bolin Funeral Chapel in Little Rock, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

MOVILLE, Iowa - Ray Coon, 82, of Moville died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with Bryan Plowman of Washington Heights Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Coon was born May 21, 1916, in Pierson, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Myrtle (Workman) Coon.

He married Viola Feddersen on Nov. 28, 1934, in Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Moville area.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, John and Mary of Sioux City and James and Marjorie of Holly Springs, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon and her husband, James Mitchell, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Sandra R. Merritt of Mapleton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Ron, Raymond, Gary, John and Dennis Coon, Andy and Chris Mitchell and Elvin Merritt; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a great-grandson.
