Jennie A. Moon
Jennie Ann Moon, 75, of Sioux City died Monday, July 20, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a rosary said by the Blue Army of Sacred Heart parish at 7:15 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 8 p.m., at Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mrs. Moon was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Peter and Wanda (Bodganski) Gull. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in 1941.

She married Al Moon on April 18, 1945, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 17, 1991.

She was employed as an office supervisor with the Department of Human Services of Iowa, for many years until retiring.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Blue Army of Sacred Heart.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and his wife, Margaret, of Sioux City and Jerold of Kinmundy, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly Moon of Radcliff, Ky.; a sister and her husband, Julia and Jess Fairbanks of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Edward and Dorothy Gull of Hartland, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

LeRoy J. Held
LeRoy John Held, 67, of Sioux City died Monday, July 20, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. George Zehnder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mr. Held was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of John Andrew and Martha (Sparr) Held. He was raised in Leeds, where he attended grade school. He moved with his family to a farm near Hinton, Iowa, where he graduated from Hinton High School. He attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1949 to 1956.

He married Betty M. Harrison on Sept. 21, 1952, in Sioux City. He was employed as an oven supervisor with Interbake Foods for 37 years. He was instrumental in the development of Nabisco's famed Snack Well Cookies.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a former superintendent of Sunday School at Calvary Lutheran Church. He served as president of the Siouxland Humane Society and served in several positions on the Humane Society Auxiliary Board. He was active in 4-H and judged fair exhibits. He bred and showed purebred cats nationwide for 20 years. He also coached Little League and youth league baseball.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, David and Mary of St. Louis; a daughter, Denese Held of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a brother and his wife, Keith and Patricia of Earlville, Iowa; and an aunt, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Pallbearers will be Burdette Peterson, Gary Wood, Eugene Boroff, Chris Smith, Norman Washburn and Sean Held.

Memorials may be directed to Siouxland Humane Society or St. Paul's Lutheran Praise Singers.

Edith Cannon
Edith Cannon, 103, of Walnut Creek, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, in Walnut Creek.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Mrs. Cannon was born Feb. 18, 1895, in Ashton Township, Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Adella Reed. She graduated from Onawa (Iowa) High School and the National Business Training School in Sioux City.

She married Frank W. Cannon in 1920. He died in 1975. She had lived in Sioux City from 1923 to 1988, when she moved to Walnut Creek.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Morningside Chapter IL, Mericoles Study Club and Tri Psi Chapter Chi. She was a former mother advisor of the Morningside Rainbow Girls with Grand Cross of Colors.

Survivors include a brother, two sisters, a daughter, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.

LaVena K. Wendehl
LaVena K. Wendehl, 68, of Sioux City died Wednesday at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a rosary said by the Legion of Mary at 7:30 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Harold C. Rembe
Harold C. Rembe, 82, of Sioux City died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Rembe was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of Charles and Anna (Frerichs) Rembe. He attended school in Le Mars, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Marie Reelfs on Aug. 7, 1937, in Le Mars. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. He had been a self-employed brick layer since 1946, and semi-retired in 1980.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, American Legion Monahan Post 64 and the Brick Layers Union.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Jerry and Sue of Minneapolis; two daughters and their husbands, Joan and Jerry Lewis of Sioux City and Judy and Tom Barr of Minneapolis; a brother and his wife, Louis and Ruth of Sioux City; a sister, Marjorie Grau of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jamie Lewis, Jean Tronson, Ranie Marie and Jason Barr, and Ben and Mary Lu Rembe; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Madsen and Evelyn Lancaster.

Marion Upton, 83, of North Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Helen J. Stowers, 92, of Sioux City died Wednesday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Gordon B. Larsen
SPENCER, Iowa - Gordon B. Larsen, 76, of Spencer died Tuesday at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post 1. Visitation will be today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a Knight of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Martha Johnson
LAUREL, Neb. - Martha Johnson, 92, of Laurel died Wednesday at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in Laurel. Burial will be in Laurel City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel.

Lester Miller
REMSEN, Iowa - Lester Miller, 85, of Remsen died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at the Happy Siesta Health Center in Remsen following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating and Deacon Allen Weiler assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Miller was born Aug. 30, 1912, in rural Remsen, the son of George and Susan (Huss) Miller. He was raised in the Remsen area and attended St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1931. He then farmed in the Remsen area.

He married Marjorie Parry on Sept. 1, 1942, in Remsen. The couple farmed in the Remsen area, until retiring and moving into Remsen in 1979. She died Feb. 25, 1992. He entered the Happy Siesta in December 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a past member of Marcus Co-op Oil Company.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Julie of Remsen; four grandchildren, Sharon, Emily, Blake and Jordan Miller; and a brother, Cletus of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Rae Miller; an infant sister, Monica; and a brother, Edmund.

Pallbearers will be Danny Huss, Terry Maass, Dick and Roger Miller, Dick Moritz and Ron Theisen.

Frank Bernard
ANTHON, Iowa - Frank Bernard, 82, of Anthon died Monday at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Ralph Lammers
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Ralph D. Lammers Sr., 101, of Sioux Center died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his daughter's residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mr. Lammers was born Sept. 30, 1896, in West Branch Township, Sioux County, Iowa, the son of Dirk and Hermina (Neikamp) Lammers.

He married Katie Van Donge on March 17, 1920, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Sioux Center. In 1986, he moved to Ireton, Iowa, to live with his daughter.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory and taught catechism.

Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy and her husband, Lawrence Mouw, and Evelyn and her husband, Fred Lamfers, all of Sioux Center, Ruth Van Ravenswaay of Ireton, Bertha Schat of Sheldon, Iowa, and Lila and her husband, Allen Van Dyk, of Sibley, Iowa; a son-in-law, Jake Vande Brake; 31 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Frieda Vande Brake; a son, Ralph Jr.; a grandson, Larry Peterson; a great-grandson; two sons-in-law, Richard Van Ravenswaay and Ralph Schat; four brothers; and six sisters.

Pallbearers will be Ralph J. and Dwaine Lammers, Brian, Brent, Brad and Bruce Lamfers, Ron and Arlen Van Ravenswaay, Mark Van Dyk, Paul and Bob Schat and Forrest Mouw.

Tena McDermott
Tena McDermott of Oto, Iowa, died Tuesday; Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon.
