Melvin Ellis
HAMER - Melvin Purser Ellis, 87, of Hamer, Idaho, died Feb. 6, 1998, at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 6, 1911, at Moreland, Idaho, to George W. and Emily Purser Ellis. He attended schools at Osgood and New Sweden. On May 21, 1936, he married Irene Louise Davies in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 21, 1966. He worked on a dry farm above Ririe before he was married. He has worked as a heavy equipment operator for the state Division of Highways and for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He worked as a rancher at Hamer. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed horse back riding, cattle and rodeos. Survivors include his wife, Irene Ellis of Hamer; a daughter, Elaine (husband, Willis) Blaine of Terreton, Idaho; two sons, Robert M. (wife, Afton) Ellis of Hamer, and Gary C. (wife, Doris) Ellis of Ucon; a sister, Arvilla (husband, John) Bohney of Pocatello; two brothers, Kail (wife, Pat) Ellis of Idaho Falls, and Boyd (wife, Jan) Ellis of Brigham City, Utah; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby, with Bishop Arlin Knight officiating. The family will meet with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Annis Little Butte Cemetery following the services.

Blanch Wadsworth
Blanch Shults Wadsworth, 75, of Idaho Falls, died Feb. 5, 1998, at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a massive heart attack. She was born Aug. 6, 1922, at Idaho Falls, to Sanford Warren and Josephine Emily Newman Judd. She spent most of her life and attended schools in Idaho Falls. She served in the Army during World War II as a medical technician in Denver. She attained the rank of corporal and received the Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. On June 1, 1946, she married Clyde C. Gaines. He died Feb. 2, 1959. On June 9, 1960, she married Paul T. Shults in Idaho Falls. He died April 27, 1982. On Aug. 7, 1986, she married Weldon J. Wadsworth at Pacific Grove, Calif. She worked as a consultant for Beauty For All Seasons. She was employed by Newberrys and Ben Franklin stores as a cashier. In her early years she worked in a potato house. Prior to entering the service she worked at North American Aviation Los Angeles as a router jig builder and a cabinet maker. She attended flight school and was a pilot. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a secretary in the M.I.A. and the Primary. She worked at the Family History Center and in Spanish extraction. She enjoyed sewing, photography, rock hunting and gardening. She took in numerous foster children. Survivors include her husband, Weldon Wadsworth of Idaho Falls; two daughters, Josephene G. Flammer of Greeley, Iowa, and Betty J. Shults of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a stepson, Steven P. Shults of Idaho Falls; a stepdaughter, Carol J. Burr of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Angelen M. Judd and Virginia LiDay both of Pacific Grove, Calif.; 36 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the LDS 10th Ward, 1200 Dunbar Drive. The family will meet with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls and for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Ashton Pineview Cemetery.

Verlin Sanders
NAMPA - Verlin Sanders, 58, of Nampa, formerly of Idaho Falls, died Feb.6, 1998, of a heart attack. Graveside services will Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Nampa, under the direction of Alsip Funeral Chapel in Nampa.

Ruth Teunis
Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Ruth McGary Teunis, age 62, a former longtime resident of Idaho Falls, passed away January 31, 1998, at Downers Grove, Illinois. She was born March 29, 1935, at Idaho Falls, the daughter of Charles McGary and Alice Butte McGary. She grew up in Idaho Falls and attended schools in the Lincoln area. She married Ronald Teunis July 10, 1964, at Ammon. She was a homemaker and mother and active community volunteer. She served as a President of the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and Treasurer of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientist, a scholarship foundation. She was a member of the threater of Western Springs and a former member of Idaho Falls Theatre groups. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Teunis of Downers Grove, Ill.; two daughters, Angela (husband, Walter) Terry of New Gretna, N.J., and Michelle (husband, Gary) Sharp of Idaho Falls; a sister, Gladys (husband, Gary) Hillman of Rigby; a brother, Kent (wife, Karen) McGary of Rexburg; and her grandchildren, Shawn and Lorelei Wachter, Tony DeLaGarza, Trisha and Sean Terry and Justin and Jennifer Sharp. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carl. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Taylor Cemetery with Reverend Barbara Condon of Christian Counseling Services officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family suggests memorials in Ruth's name to the Colonial Arts Theater, c/o Idaho Falls Arts Council, 498 A Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.

Emmitt Johnson
Funeral services for Emmitt "Hugh" Johnson, 97, will be held at the Challis Mission Church on Monday, February 9, 1998, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Stroud officiating. Mr. Johnson passed away February 3, 1998, at the Discovery Care Center in Salmon. He was born June 30, 1900, in Loudon, Tennessee, the oldest of three children to William Joseph and Mary Samson Johnson. As a young child, he attended grade school in Loudon. In 1916, the family moved west, working the harvest in Kansas, Colorado and California. He married Joy Taylor in 1924, and they resided briefly in Los Angeles and later in Sebastopol. In 1926, he moved the family north to Yuba City where he operated a dehydrator at a peach orchard. In 1944, he bought a dairy ranch and operated it with his two sons. The winter of 1955, disaster hit and the whole Sutter Basin was flooded and they were totally wiped out. He built a Grade A milking barn and had a 70 heard dairy operation. In 1960, Hugh bought the Dr. Robert Barter ranch east of Challis in the Round Valley area which included the Case/International dealership. In 1965, Hugh semi retired and they sold the ranch. His son, Wayne continued to operate the Case dealership and Hugh worked in the spring and fall for Fidele Amar and Ralph Anderson in the spud fields and on Ralph's pig farm. For several years, he continued to go to the Sutter Basin for weeks helping his friend with the rice harvest. In 1966, they sold the Case dealership, and Hugh started a new venture, hard rock mining. He purchased a mining claim on Jordon Creek up Yankee Fork, near the dredge boat where they spent every summer until Joy became ill. She resided in a nursing home from 1982, until her death in 1986. In 1983, Hugh became a part of and resided with the John and Charlotte Miller family. Due to his failing eye sight he had to give up mining in 1995, and continued to make his home with the Millers. He loved playing pinochle and attending all of the Senior Citizen functions. He anxiously awaited each Monday and Wednesday to play bingo. He is survived by his two sons, Wayne and wife Lou, and Robert Neal and wife Beverly. Hugh is also survived by eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and his grandson. "Pine Trees in Heaven" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" will be sung by Jim James and Angie Tupper and accompanied by Sandy James. Helen Miller will read the life sketch. Pallbearers are Jon Butler, Gary Chamberlain, Doug Johnson, Jim Johnson, Larry Johnson and John Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Don Crosby, Russell Kosky, Robert Miller, Gene Schaecher, Malcolm Spooner and Elmer Stephens. Flower girls are Mary Butler, Helen Crosby, Cheryl Cutler, Phyllis Kosky, Helen Miller, Judie Miller, Renee Miller and Nancy Schaecher. Burial will take place in the Challis Cemetery under the direction of Jones and Casey Funeral Home of Salmon and Challis.

Jack D. Cummings
Jack D. Cummings, 78, of Idaho Falls, died May 23, 1998, at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Wichita, Kan., to William L. and Edna Pauline Lowman Cummings. He lived in Wichita until he was nine years old, and then he spent several years in Utah and Idaho. At the age of 14, he went to work for the WPA in Idaho Falls and Challis. On Oct. 20, 1938, he married Annie Laura Hammon in Idaho Falls. He worked at the Rogers Hotel as a dishwasher and bellman. He also worked for several potato warehouses in the area. He joined the Army in 1942, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After serving in the military until 1945, he worked for Idaho Falls Tire and Battery until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and providing produce for his friends in the north end of Idaho Falls and for his family. He was honest, helpful, compassionate, caring and always there when needed. Survivors include his wife, Annie Laura Cummings; his children, Wallace (wife, Shauna) Cummings, Mona (husband, Ron) Lee both of Idaho Falls, Mary (husband, Callis) Young of Rupert and Lorena (husband, Jerry) Luber of Littleton, Colo.; two daughter-in-laws, Shirley Cummings of Salt Lake City and Susan Cummings of Roberts; a sister, Lillian Regis of Sparks, Nev.; a brother, Eugene Peterson, Jr. of Vacaville, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Sherman and Howard. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Coltrin Colonial Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls. The family will meet with friends for one hour before services at the mortuary. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.

Wallace H. Hanson
Wallace H. Hanson, 94, a longtime resident of Idaho Falls, died May 24, 1998, at his home of causes incident to age. He was born March 3, 1904, at Goshen, Idaho, to Ola and Caroline Hanson. He attended school in the Shelley area, graduating from Shelley High School, and studied briefly at the University of California at Los Angeles. He lived in the Shelley area for 43 years and worked there as Shelley postmaster. On Sept. 23, 1928, he married Alice Bybee Poole in Dillon, Mont. She died March 7, 1985. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following the war, he was the U.S. Veteran's Administration contact representative in this area. He served as Bonneville County Clerk. While holding that position, he was elected president of the Idaho State Association of County Auditors. He also was past chairman of the board of the East Idaho Federal Credit Union. He was a life member of the Elks Club and also of the American Legion. For his work in the American Legion, he was honored as Grand Marshall of the War Bonnet Roundup. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He liked watching sports, walking in Tautphaus Park and enjoying his farm in Goshen. Survivors include his sons, Robert P. Hanson (wife, Margaret) of Goshen, and Forrest P. (wife, LuAnn) Hanson of Idaho Falls; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Bishop D. Edward Gulbransen officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to services Wednesday. Burial will be in the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veteran's Team. The family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Myrna Jones
VICTOR - Myrna Jones, 67, of Victor, Idaho, died Nov. 29, 1998, of cancer at the Teton Valley Hospital in Driggs. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at the Driggs LDS Stake Center with Bishop Doyle Allen officiating. Visitation will be at the church Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday for one hour before the services. Burial will be in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia under the direction of Valley Mortuary in Driggs.

POCATELLO - Gary Lee Miller, 26, of Pocatello, died Nov. 29, 1998, at his home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Downard Hansen Funeral Home in Pocatello.

REXBURG - Preston H. Parkinson, 81, of Rexburg, died May 25, 1998, at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls of natural causes. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center, 315 E. Second North. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.

BLACKFOOT - Daniel Schneider, 66, of Blackfoot, Idaho, died Nov. 30, 1998, at Bannock Regional Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls, with Father Timothy O'Toole officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Bonneville County Veterans' Team at the church. A Rosary service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls, with the Legion of Mary leading the Rosary prayers. The family will visit with friends following the Rosary service until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Coltrin Colonial Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls.

May (Muchie Harada) Sargent, 78, a former resident of Idaho Falls, died May 19, 1998, at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton, Calif. Following cremation, private family graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Local arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
