M. Helen Jacobson, 82, Weippe
M. Helen Jacobson passed away peacefully Aug. 22, 2002 at Tri State Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. Helen was born in Orofino on Jan. 6, 1920, to Arthur and Lillian Johnson. The family lived in Grogan, Ore. for 12 years. They moved to Weippe, where she graduated from high school in 1937. She attended college in Spokane, WA and worked in the office of Union Oil Co. until her marriage to J. Wesley Jacobson, March 18, 1944. They enjoyed their home on the Weippe prairie until Wesley's death in Dec. 1999. Helen then moved to Royal Plaza Retirement and Care Center. Helen enjoyed playing cards, camping, boating, fishing, and dancing. Her greatest enjoyment was her children and grandchildren. She served on the Weippe School Board, Election Board, and the Clearwater County Fair Board. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years and belonged to the Weippe Senior Citizens. She was also active in the Weippe Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her three children, Alan and wife Sue of Eldorado, Calif.; Christine and husband Sid Brown of Weippe, and Marilyn and husband Phil Taylor of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren, Jeff, Brenda, Jennifer, Diana, Caralyn and Monica; eight great grandchildren, Ryan, Kady, Kristen, Tyler, Hailey, Jonathan, Billy, and Jacob Wesley, who will arrive Sept. 18, 2002. Visitation was held at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel Tuesday. Services were held at the Weippe Wesleyan Church Wednesday, with burial at the Weippe Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Weippe EMTs at P.O. Box 301, Weippe, ID 83553, or to the White Pine Rebekah Lodge #60. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino.

Arnold W. Forsmann, 71, Peck
Arnold W. Forsmann died August 21, 2002 from cancer at his home in Peck, ID. Arnold was born Jan. 13, 1931 in Cottonwood, the son of J.B. Forsmann and Anna Schmidt Forsmann. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1948 and married Maria Goffinet in Spokane, WA in 1956. He served in the Air Force for four years, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include his wife Maria; a daughter, Janet Forsmann of Kirkland, WA; two sisters, Thelma Morrow and Norma Forsmann, both of Lewiston, ID; three brothers, Vern Forsmann of Clarkston, WA, Verl Forsmann of Blackfoot, ID, and Don Forsmann of Bremerton, WA. Services were held Monday at Brower Wann Memorial Chapel in Lewiston.

Iris M. Rhoads, 93, former resident
Iris Matilda Rhoads passed away Monday, July 29, 2002, in Orofino of causes related to age and Alzheimer's. Iris was born September 4, 1908, to Daniel and Lucy Lang in Grant City, Missouri, the fourth of eight children. After graduating from State Normal School and Teacher's College in Peru, Nebraska, Iris went to a teaching position near Spotted Horse, Wyoming, where she met June "J.D." Rhoads. They were married Aug. 9, 1929 and homesteaded in Wyoming until 1934, whereupon they moved to several different places, following crops, jobs, and their daughter, Elona, until settling in East Hope, Idaho at the end of 1936. After J.D.'s death in 1989, Iris divided her time between her daughter's home in East Hope and her son's home in Weippe, Idaho. Iris enjoyed gardening and canning during the spring, summer, and fall. She knitted afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, hats, mittens and other wear for her friends and family. Iris' final year and a half were spent in Orofino at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation. Surivivors include her daughter, Elona Yaryan of Hope; one son, Nicholas Rhoads of Weippe; one sister, Nadine Bergmann of Nebraska; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A small family memorial service will be held at a later date. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie M. Thompson, 70, Elk City
Elsie May Thompson of Elk City died July 28, 2002 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston from surgery complications. She was born Dec. 8, 1931 in Grangeville, ID to Benjamin and Lillian Zumwalt. She lived in Winona, near Kooskia, ID, and attended first through eight grade there. She graduated from Kooskia High School and later married Kenneth Thompson in 1955 in Orofino. They lived near Kooskia until 1963, whereupon they moved to Ironside, OR, then back to Stites, ID in 1965. After the family home burned down in 1968 they moved to Elk City, ID. There, Elsie worked as a cook at the school. She was active in the Sew Help Me Quilters Club and loved spending time outdoors, as well as fishing, camping, riding horses and working on the family cattle ranch. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Ken, of Elk City; two sons, Kevin Thompson of Grangeville and Ben and Shala Thompson of Elk City; one daughter, Christine Thompson of Elk City; four sisters, Josephine Campbell of Orofino and Goldie, Hazel and Verla; three brothers, Lloyd, Fred, and Donald Zumwalt and three grandchildren, Jasper, Sarah, and Savannah Thompson of Elk City. Funeral Services were held Saturday at Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia. The family suggests memorials be made in Elsie's name to Pine Tree Credit Union in Elk City to help with hospital costs.

George R. Root, 83
George R. Root, a 37-year resident of Orofino, died Friday, July 19, 2002. He was born in Marine-on-St. Croix, Minn. on Jan. 30, 1919, to Frank and Matilda Root. As a child he worked on various farms in the vicinity of Marine. He worked and played trumpet with a traveling medicine show and carnival, setting up in towns around northern Minnesota. He served several terms in the CCCs and was in the United States Army from 1940 to 1945, where he was a bandsman and bugler. After discharge from the army he attended music school and moved to Alaska to work in construction and on the Distant Early Warning System, the DEW-line. He married Ruth Darrah in Kenai, Alaska in 1960. In 1969 he retired from road construction and pipeline work and they moved permanently to a farm out of Orofino. George enjoyed planting trees, especially Tamarack, Ponderosa Pine, and Douglas Fir. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sisters, Lorraine Johnson, Encinitas, CA; Katherine Richardson, Laughlin, NV; and Bonna Jean Crabtree, Lake Elmo, MN.

Catherine E. Gilmore, 87, Orofino
Catherine E. Gilmore, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation in Orofino. Born May 10, 1916, she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Bolon and Rose Esther Gilliland in Greer, ID. She went to school in Greer and Orofino and graduated from Kamiah High School in 1934. She married Charles Brocke and they were divorced after 13 years of marriage. She married Charles W. Gilmore on Jan. 30, 1950. He passed away in June 1994. She and Charles farmed for 23 years on Upper Fords Creek before moving to Orofino in 1982. She worked at the State Hospital and at various restaurants in Orofino until the early 1970s when she retired. She loved the outdoors, her flowers and garden. She was a founding member of the Home Hoppers Extension Cub and was active in the Bluebell Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed puzzles, sewing, cooking and going gambling with Nannie B. Catherine is survived by her son, Charles Thomas (Chuck) Gilmore of Orofino; daughter Loralee Emily Brown and husband Richard of Orofino; step-son William Joseph Gilmore and wife Deana of Orofino; and step-daughter, Betty Mae Reed and husband Del of White City, Ore. She is also survived by grand-children Melanie Snyder and Dan Gilmore, both of Spokane, Heather Gilmore, Forest Hamilton and Cindy Axe, all of Lewiston, Tammy Kjeldegaard of Waterloo, Wis., Julie Grandstaff and Charlie Gilmore, both of Orofino, Dick Preibe and Pearl Walden, both of Deary; 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, Oscar and Bill Bolon; and sisters Vivian Riley, Nellie Riley and Pina Stanford. Cremation has taken place at her request. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Orofino Tabernacle. A dinner at the church will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Clearwater Humane Society.

George E. Payne, 69, Orofino
George E. Payne, a retired woods worker of Orofino, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 from complications of Parkinson's disease at Clearwater Valley Hospital of Orofino. he was 69. George was born Sept. 2, 1934 to Robert and Mabel Brunst Payne in Culbertson, Mont. He attended school there for a few years before the family moved to Elk River, where he graduated in 1953. While in high school, he was employed by the City of Elk River along with the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association. In the fall of 1954 he attended Boise Junior College for a time and played football for them. In 1955 he became employed by Diamond Match in Elk River. In 1956 he started working as a sawyer for J.E. Hall Contractors. George and Judith Robbins were married July 5, 1957 in Spokane, Wash. George became a foreman for J.E. Hall in 1962. Ten years later he began working for Potlatch Forests Inc., as a sawyer. He was promoted to foreman in 1974 and retired from Potlatch Corp. as a foreman Sept. 2, 1996. The family moved to Orofino in March 1978. George enjoyed traveling, fishing, visiting with friends and most of all, spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Judith at their home in Orofino; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathleen Payne of Culdesac; a daughter and her companion, Chrystal Anderson and Terry Koeper of Lewiston; a brother, Richard and wife Roberta Payne of Spokane; one sister, Lucille and husband Eugene Friend of Spokane; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Berdella Payne; and his grandparents, John and Bertha Wolff Grunst and Samuel and Nancy Scalf Payne. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Clearwater Valley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2169, Orofino, ID 83544. Arrangements are under the direction of Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino.

Harvey Edward Smith, 88, Peck
Harvey Edward Smith passed away Dec. 3, 2003 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. He was 88. Harvey was born Dec. 28, 1914 to Millard Cleveland and Alice Helen Loeffler Smith in Coeur d'Alene. He attended schools in Lapwai and Clarkston, graduating from Clarkston High School in 1931. He married Burdena Dickeson May 30, 1936 in Clarkston. Harvey served in the U.S. Army in 1945. He worked in various lumber mills in Orofino and farmed in and around Peck. He worked for Lewiston Grain Growers at Lenore. He retired from the Riverside Lumber Co. in Orofino in 1979. He was a member of the Peck City Council and dedicated many years to the city of Peck. Survivors include his wife Burdena of Lewiston; his sisters and brothers-in-law Clarice and Bert Covert of Lacey, Wash., and Margaret and Clifford Smith of Peck; sons and daughters-in-law William E. Ellen Smith of Lewiston and Richard (Butch) T. and Teri Smith of Clarkston; daughters and sons-in-law Marjean E. and Willie Russell of Lewiston, Deborah L. and Bruce Johnson of Kennewick and Vickie L. Smith and Jay Thornley of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. At his request, cremation will take place and no funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Peck Community Hall. Mountain View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Henrietta Nelson, 90
Henrietta Jane Nelson, Weiser, formerly of Council, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at a Weiser care center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Council Nazarene Church. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery, Council. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home, Weiser.

Wendell L. Osborn, 61
Wendell Lewis Osborn died Dec. 6, 2002 in Latah County. Wendell was born April 7, 1941 at Deary. He attended elementary school in Deary. He moved to Pierce and graduated from Pierce High School in 1959. He spent much of his life in Pierce. He worked for the Forest Service in the 60's at the Bungalow Ranger Station. He also worked for Potlatch Corporation, Ray Coon Logging, Quigley Logging and Kamiah Mills. Wendell enjoyed hunting, fishing on the Clearwater and most of all, spending time with his family and good friends. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Orofino, two children, Todd Osborn of Sandpoint and Wendy (Sherman) Rucker of Sandpoint; two step-children, Chip Long of Nampa and Sandra (Jeff) Cornelius of Grantsville, Utah; two sisters, Bertha Drury of Grangeville and Peggy Mundell of Walla Walla; a brother Milford Osborn of Kendrick; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and Lila Osborn of Sandpoint. A memorial service was held for family and friends Tuesday at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, Orofino. .

Elva Webb, 87, Nampa
Elva Arlene Webb of Nampa, passed away Nov. 30, 2002 of natural causes. Elva was born in Derby, Iowa Feb. 20, 1915 to Orville Edward and Lola Eleanor (Exley) Sayers. She attended school in the Derby area. She married Ferman Webb in 1934. The couple moved to Idaho in 1935, living and farming in the Marsing, Melba and Nampa areas. She was a frequent visitor to the Orofino area and loved the mountains. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Melvin) Bryant of Orofino and Patty (Gordan) Tiegs of Nampa; four grandchildren, Joanne (Ron) Moulton of Lewiston, Ron (Valerie) Tiegs, Tracie (Joe) Toolis of Nampa and Kathy (Dan) Wiebold of Melba; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Wilma McClintock of Boise; one brother, Elbern (Lois) Sayers of Nampa and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie J. Musgrave, 56, Lewiston
Bonnie Jean Musgrave of Lewiston died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Bonnie was a former Orofino resident and employee of the Clearwater National Forest. The funeral was held Sunday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. Burial followed at Normal Hill Cemetary in Lewiston.

Kenneth Kirk Simon, Jr., 67
From high school boxer to lifelong Boeing employee to master birdhouse builder encompasses the life of Kenneth Kirk (Hez) Simon, Jr., who died Dec. 6, 2003 at his Maple Valley, Wash. home after suffering a heart attack. Kenneth was born Nov. 13, 1936 in Yakima, Wash., where his father, Ken Sr., still lives. He was a four-year boxer at Orofino High School, where he was a 1955 graduate before attending the University of Idaho. He subsequently gained employment at Boeing in the Seattle region, mostly in its computer division, from which he retired several years ago. He and his former wife Patricia Bickler, from whom he was divorced in 1978, had four children, Laurie, Mike, Joanne and Jeff, who survive. Patricia died in 1984. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, building "very wonderful bird houses," his daughter Laurie recalled. He also enjoyed tinkering on his cars and until about eight years ago, he was an avid skier. He had a very dry sense of humor, his family recalled, and loved a good joke and laugh. They kidded him about his hexagonal shaped house on five acres, dubbed his "compound". Besides his father and offspring, he is also survived by a brother Joseph, in Hillsboro, Ore. and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held Dec. 12 at Bothell Funeral chapel near Seattle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the American Heart Association in his name; American Heart Association National Center, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.

Henrietta Nelson, 90, former resident
Henrietta Jane nelson died at the Weiser Nursing Home Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003. She suffered a stroke in September and recently developed a respiratory infection. She was 90. Henrietta was born April 13, 1913 in Flatwillow, Mont., the youngest of three daughters, to Henry and Lillis Todd Hawkins. She married Robert P. Nelson June 2, 1935 in Moscow. Henrietta is predeceased by her parents, two sisters and her loving husband Bob of 55 years, who died from cancer in 1990. She is survived by their three children, Jim and rosemary Nelson of Burnet, TX, Pat and Larry Thompson of Bullhead City, AZ, Todd and Donna Nelson of Weiser and their foster son Don and Joan Keeler of Orofino. She also leaves seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Henrietta and Bob ranched in the Moscow area for many years. Later, when Bob worked in construction, they enjoyed living in many places in Oregon, Washington and Montana. They retired to Orofino in 1967. In 1988, they moved to Council to be near family. Henrietta moved to live with her son and family in Weiser in 2002. She will be remembered as a strong-willed lady who placed a high value on education and her family. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge, holding many offices. Bob and Henrietta traveled over most of the country and parts of Canada attending Rebekah and Odd Fellow functions. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Council Church of the Nazarene, under direction of Thomason Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Council I.O.O.F. cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made in her name to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a favorite charity.

Robert J. Brock, 65, Oregon
Robert J. Brock (Bob) of Roseburg, Ore., passed away Dec. 8, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Roseburg. After battling cancer for almost four years, his death was a result of respiratory failure brought on by complications of chemotherapy. He was 65. Bob was born at home Aug. 20, 1938 in Teakean, Wash. to Ellwood and Lottie Brock. His mother was a homemaker and his father worked in the woods and on the family farm. During World War II the family moved to Bremerton, were his father worked in the shipyards. After the war was over, his family moved back to Teakean to continue farming. Bob attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse, where his mother was the teacher. He attended Orofino High School and later attended the University of Moscow, where he graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's of science degree in forestry. When Bob was old enough, he began actively participating in local 4-H programs. As a result of his effort, he won a trip to Chicago, where he attended a national 4-H convention. Bob began his career in the federal government starting with the Forest Service in 1958. This was followed by 23 years with the bureau of Land Management. He served with the Minerals Management Service (MMS) in Anchorage, Alaska, since its inception in 1982. He worked in its offshore oil and gas-leasing program until 1998, when he retired. In his service with the MMS, Bob was the key player in negotiating the basic agreements among the oil and gas industry, the North Slope Borough, the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission and others for reducing conflict between industry activity and the bowhead whale subsistence hunt in the Beaufort Sea. His service was recognized with many awards, including the Meritorious Service Award and the Department of the Interior's highest award, the Distinguished Service Award. Bob loved to ski and was an accomplished ski instructor. He achieved his Professional Ski Instructors of America Level 2 certification more than 30 years ago. His students of all ages and nationalities benefited from his upbeat friendly demeanor. One of his most notable clients was Paul Newman, who took a lesson from Bob at Mt. Stowe in Vermont. Although bob has taught skiing in Idaho, Oregon and Vermont, the majority of his ski instructing was at Mt. Alyeska in Alaska, where he taught both advanced kids and adults of all levels. He worked there with his daughter, Jackie, who followed in her father's footsteps and achieved her Level 2 certification as well. Other hobbies included hunting and flying. He learned to fly while working in Washington, D.C., and continued to fly when he was transferred to Alaska. He first owned a Cessna 152 and later a Cessna 170. His hunting ranged from hunting deer on the farm at Teakean to grizzly bear and Dahl sheep in Alaska. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Elaine Brock; his daughter, Jackie Brock of Australia; his son from a previous marriage, Judd Higgins of Richland; his sister, Clara Dodge of Lewiston; his brother Dale Brock of Lewiston; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lewiston. The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Wilda Louise Welsh, 62, Orofino
Wilda Louise Welsh, Orofino, died Dec. 9, 2003 at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation in Orofino. She was 62. Wilda was born July 3, 1941 in Madera, Calif. to Opal Jernigan and Jessie Manuel McFarland. She married Floyd Franklin Imoe, April 29, 1958 in California. The marriage ended in divorce in 1983. She married Floyd Larson Welsh in Orofino, in December of 1983. He died in Utah in September of 1998. Wilda was a housewife, raising four daughters. She enjoyed gardening and her dog, Heidi. Besides her husband, Floyd Welsh, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie McFarland in California and Opal McFarland in Orofino. She is survived by four daughters, Cherrie Belew of Clairmore, Okla., Terrie Johnson of Orofino, Pam Wilson of Shasta Lake, Calif., and Cheryl Maves of East Nichalaus, Calif.; a sister, Joyce Jackson of Orofino; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. At her request, no services will be held. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Larson, 94, Weippe
Ruby Larson of Weippe, died Dec. 15, 2002. Ruby was born at Woodland, Feb. 3, 1908 to John and Myrtle Moon. She attended the Woodland School through the eighth grade. The family moved to Weippe, where she attended high school for two years. They then moved to Milton-Freewater, Ore. and she finished high school at Mac High. Ruby attended Momouth Teacher School for one year. She married Anthan C. Larson Sept. 20, 1928 at Walla Walla, Wash. and moved back to Weippe to live on the Tony Larson family ranch. Tony died May 19, 1977 and Ruby continued living there with her son Carl, until her death. After finishing her college degree at Washington State College in 1956, she taught her first year at the Wilson School, a one-room country school. She taught at Pierce four years, Lapwai three years, Weippe eight years and in North Las Vegas for 10 years. Ruby enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing and taking rides in the mountains. She also loved to crochet and read. Survivors include her son Carl Larson of Weippe, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Weippe Cemetery.

Joseph W. Lynch, 81, California
Joseph W. Lynch (Joe), passed away Dec. 9, 2002 at Twin City Hospital, Templeton, Calif. Joe was born June 27, 1921 at Ellensburg, Wash. to Charles and Alice Lynch. When he was two, the family moved back to their homestead on Wells Bench, near Orofino, where he spent his early years. He worked in the woods as a sawyer and a truck driver. After moving to California, he was a heavy duty machine operator. He married Marion Smith Aug. 12, 1940 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year. Joe enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving during WWII in Germany. He then served in the Reserves, being recalled in 1950. He was stationed in California, where they later made their home at Paso Robles. Survivors include his wife Marion at the family home; a sister, Edith Day of Orofino; and many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at the Wells Bench Cemetery at a later date. "I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times, and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories I leave behind - when day is done."

Richard E. Leonard, 90
Richard Ellsworth Leonard, longtime Orofino resident, died from complications of age Dec. 15, 2002 in Clarkston, Wash. Dick was born March 13, 1912 on a homestead on Canyon Creek. The family moved to Colorado when he was a boy. He attended school there and returned to Orofino when he was in his 20's. He married Agnes Lindstrom Sept. 8, 1936. She passed away in October of 1980. Dick owned and operated a sawmill at Canyon Creek in the late 1940's until the early 1950's. He also worked in the woods from time to time as well. He operated the Richfield Service Station in Orofino in the 1950's. In 1957 he began work as a heavy equipment operator for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 1972. He had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked as a guide for many local and out-of-state hunters. He was an accomplished trap shooter and member of the Orofino Gun Club and the Camas Prairie Trap Shooting Association. He won numerous trap-shooting titles, including the Handicap Champion of 1964. Survivors include his sons Larry Leonard of Orofino and Kenneth Leonard of Twin Falls; daughters Jolene Pierson of Port Townsend, Wash., Sharon O'Connor of Lewiston and Barbara (Babs) Ward of Orofino; sisters Doris Jean Mays, Leila Frazier, Verna Sorenson, Velma McDonald and Kathaleen Lister, all residing in Colorado. Dick had 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Riverside Cemetery in Orofino. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of their choice.

Rex L. Hendren, 41, Orofino native
Rex L. Hendren died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at Show Low, Ariz. Rex was born Dec. 4, 1961 to Dale Hendren and Jean Isaacson at Orofino. He was raised in the Orofino and Kooskia areas. He lived in various places while logging in the Northwest but considered St. Maries home between jobs. He worked in all aspects of the logging industry throughout the Northwest and most recently as a timber faller in Show Low, Ariz. for Columbia Helicopters Inc. Rex loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, traveling and working in the woods. He was a very private person who was easy going and hard working. He was a great big brother as well as a friend. Surviving him are his father "Shorty" Dale Hendren of Kooskia; his mother Jean Isaacson of Pomeroy, Wash.; two sisters, Janet Hendren of Pine Knot, Ken. and Julie Dempsey of Boise; a brother Randy Hendren of Weippe; two sons, Kelly Hendren of Pell City, Alabama and Greg Hendren of Kooskia and a daughter Heather Card who lives in Orofino. He also has one grandson and a granddaughter. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Kooskia. A fellowship luncheon will follow at the Kooskia, IOOF Hall. Trenary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. .

Bonnie J. Musgrave, 56, former resident
Bonnie Jean Irby Musgrave passed away Dec. 5, 2002 in Lewiston. Bonnie was born Sept. 9, 1946 to George and Toots Irby in Weiser. She attended schools in Orofino, where she graduated in 1964 from Orofino High School. As a young girl she enjoyed going to her grandparents home in Cambridge and riding her horse Blaze. She married Dee Musgrave June 11, 1964. They later divorced. She lived in Jerome and Boise for a short period of time and then returned to live in Orofino. While in Orofino, Bonnie worked at the Clearwater Tribune and then later for the Clearwater National Forest until illness forced her retirement. She is survived by her children DeeAnn Musgrave of Lewiston and Brad and Amber Musgrave of Anchorage, Alaska; and her grandchildren, Dustin, Adrian, Thomas and Richard; a sister, Shannon Rice of Nehalem, Ore. and a brother, Alvin Irby of Sweet. Graveside services were held at Normal Hill Cemetery, Lewiston, under the direction of Vasser-Rawls Funeral Home.
