A funeral Mass for John Michael Szczesny, 25, took place Friday, Dec. 5 from chapel to Holy Family Church. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery in Palatine. Mr. Szczesny was born on May 2, 1983 in Chicago. He died on Nov. 29, 2008. His parents John and Gina (nee Brown) Szczesny; his siblings Neena (Michael) Masterson, Michael, Jason, and Jenna Szczesny; his grandparents Waclaw and Teresa Szczesny; his uncle Joseph Szczesny; and his aunt Rebecca Brown survive him.

Regina Veronica Tarnowski
Of Niles

A funeral service for Regina Veronica Tarnowski, 93, took place Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Benedict Home. Interment will be at St. Adalbert cemetery. Mrs. Tarnowski was born on July 2, 1915 in Chicago. She worked as a seamstress and died on Nov. 29, 2008 at St. Benedict Nursing Home. Her parents Aloysius and Marie (nee Dymska) Boona preceded her in death. Her husband Jerome Tarnowski and her niece Sharon Mack survive her.

Siv Irene Webber

A funeral service for Siv Irene Webber, 80, took place on Monday, Dec. 1 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Interment was at Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 30 at the funeral home. Mrs. Webber was born on May 2, 1928 in Chicago. She was a homemaker and died on Nov. 27, 2008 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her parents Folke and Irene (nee Nielson) Magnuson preceded her in death. Her husband Harry M. Webber, her children Susan and Robert (Lori) Webber, and her grandchildren Alixandrea, Bobby, and Kari survive her.

Michael W. Cooper
Of Arlington Hts.

Michael W. Cooper, 57, of Arlington Hts., died Jan. 29. Cooper was born Jan. 15, 1952 in Mooreland, Indiana. He was the father of Cherie (Luis) Rangel. Grandfather of Molly Rangel. He was the son of Mildred Langhoff and the late Irvin Cooper. Brother of Irvin, John, Ken and Barbara Cooper. Memorial visitation was Friday, Feb. 6 to time of memorial service at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows.

Judith Ann Doman
Founder of Door County Confectionery

Judith "Judi" Ann Doman, (nee Clabaugh), 69, formerly of Arlington Hts., who lived in Inverness for 32 years, died on Feb. 1. Born May 25, 1939 in Antioch, she was owner of Door County Confectionery Company, which was founded in 1972. She was also on the Board of Directors of Cornerstone Bank, Palatine. She taught school for five years before founding her business. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 5, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 6 at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Hts. Burial was private. She is survived by her husband, Greg; sons J. Gregor (Karen) Doman, Jr., and Ericka (Michael) Arbour and Kurt (Julie) Doman; grandmother of Sydney and Morgan Doman, Jake, Ryan and Griffin Arbour and Hannah, Matthew and Emilia Doman, sister of James Clabaugh. She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Ralph and Ruth Clabaugh.

Margaret W. Dubs

A funeral service for Margaret W. Dubs, 78, of Niles, was held Feb. 6 in Eden United Church of Christ, Chicago. Interment was in Ridgewood cemetery. Arrangements were by Cooney Funeral Home, Park Ridge. She died Feb. 3. Surviving are her former husband, Karl; children Steven (Suzanne), Susan, and Randall (Renee); and grand children Eric Spencer; Peter, Natalie, and Rena Dubs, and Jeffrey Wagner.

Donald J. Gasikowski
WWII U.S. Navy Veteran Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Donald J. Gasikowski, 82, took place Saturday, Feb. 7 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Visitation preceded the service. Mr. Gasikowski was born in Chicago. He died on Feb. 2, 2009 at Manor Care in Elk Grove Village. His wife of 55 years, Elaine (nee Jaworowski), preceded him in death.

His children Michael (Teri) and Bill (JoAnn) Gasikowski survive him.

Erna Gruebnau
Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Erna Gruebnau, 94, will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Lutheran Home & Services in Arlington Hts. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery in Barrington. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. Mrs. Gruebnau was born on June 15, 1914, in Mt. Prospect. She died on Feb. 7, 2009 in Arlington Hts. Her husband Richard Gruebnau, preceded her in death. Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. made funeral arrangements.

Theodore S. Hendzel
WWII Army Veteran Of Niles

A funeral service for Theodore S. Hendzel, 84, took place Thursday, Jan. 29 at St. Juliana Church. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 28 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Mr. Hendzel was born on Oct. 15, 1924 in Chicago. He died on Jan. 24, 2009 at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. His wife Ann F. Hendzel (nee Piekarz) preceded him in death. His children Dolores (Frank) Cavalluzzi, Theodore (Carol) Hendzel Jr., and Diane (Nolan) Birkenkamp survive him.

Margaret D. Johnson
Formerly of Des Plaines

Margaret D. Johnson, (nee Mitchell) of Johnsburg, formerly of Des Plaines, died on Feb. 5 in Lexington of Lake Zurich. She was born on June 16, 1923 in Chicago. She was the wife of the late Walter Johnson. Grandmother of Riley, Maggie and Emily. Sister of the late Ed Mitchell. Memorial visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St., Des Plaines. Friends and family will gather on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Hope Church, 9711 W. Devon, Rosemont. Interment will be private.

Dennis Edwin Kielbasa
Of Rolling Meadows

Dennis Edwin Kielbasa, 61, of Rolling Meadows died Jan. 31 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. Born Aug. 18, 1947 in Chicago, he was the husband of Margaret (nee Porter). Father of Sharon (Thomas) Costigan and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Kiel. Grandfather of Maya and Benjamin Kiel. Brother of James (Barbara) Kiel and Marlene (David) Kretchmer. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 5, at Meadows Funeral Home. Friends and family gathered at St. Colette Church in Rolling Meadows on Friday for a Memorial Mass. Interment at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery, Palatine.

Eldred Koenig
Served in World War II Of Arlington Hts.

Eldred Koenig was born on July 4, 1922 in Chicago to Harold and Hazel (nee Stoike) Koenig. He passed away Feb. 6 in Arlington Hts. Koenig served as an officer in the Navy during WWII. He remained active at First Presbyterian Church since becoming a member in 1959. He retired in 1983 from the Fireman's Fund after a 30-year career. He is survived by his children, Kimberly (Steve) Grecan of Crystal Lake, Craig (Kathy) Koenig of Mt. Prospect and Katherine (Jeff) McVay of Arlington Hts.; his grandchildren, Jamie, Sarah and Rachel Koenig and Kristen and Matthew Gecan; and his brother, Roland Koenig. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and sister-in-law, Margaret. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Hts., 302 N. Dunton Ave. Interment is private.

Thelma Ester 'Dolly' Kurtz
Of Rolling Meadows

Thelma Ester "Dolly" Kurtz (nee Anderson), 82, of Rolling Meadows died Feb. 2 at Winchester House in Libertyville. Born Nov. 23, 1926 in Chicago, she was the wife of Walter R "Bud" Kurtz. Mother of Nancy (Jack) Mohn, Thomas (Pamela) and Jill Kurtz and Stacey (David) Cross. Grandmother of Steven, Karl and Abigail Mohn, Dawn and Timothy Kurtz, Kyle Gehrke, Bailey, Oliva and Gisele Cross and the late Kimberly Kurtz. Sister of Robert Anderson. She is preceded in death by her siblings Elsie (the late Bernard) Kalb and Edward (the late Corrine) Anderson, sister-in-law, Quanita Anderson. Visitation and services were held Feb. 8-9 at Meadows Funeral Home. Interment was at Ridgewood cemetery, Des Plaines.

Dorothy Lachman

A funeral service for Dorothy Lachman, 83, took place Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. Juliana Church. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 23 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Mrs. Lachman was born in Chicago on Aug. 1, 1925. She died on Jan. 20, 2009 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her husband Louis F. Lachman and her daughter Cynthia Renee survive her.

Carolyn S. Lake
St. John Brebeuf teacher

Carolyn S. Lake, 69, of Glenview, died Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Lutheran General Hospital. Born in Chicago on Feb. 24, 1939. She was a teacher at St. John Brebeuf Catholic School in Niles. Visitation was at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 6. Services were held at St. John Brebeuf Church. Burial was in Maryhill cemetery, Niles. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Schwind, mother, Anna (Bertha) Schwind and sister Nancy Caufield. She is survived by her husband, Richard Lake of Glenview NAS; daughters, Kathleen (Carl) Campo of Glenview NAS, Kimberley (William) Barker; sons, Kevin (Lisa) Lake, Kris (Angie) Lake, Keith Lake; grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Tyler, Brianna, Lexi, Ashley, Erin, Isabel, Kelly and Catherine; sister, Betty (Richard) Incrocci and aunt and friend to many.

Shirley A. Maltes
Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Shirley A. Maltes (nee Nasluchacz), 70, formerly of Schaumburg, took place Friday, Jan. 30 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment was at Christ the King cemetery in Wonder Lake. Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 29 at the funeral home. Mrs. Maltes was born in Chicago. She died on Jan. 26, 2009. Her husband Robert Maltes and her children Lorry (Edward T. Jr.) Krolicki, Michele Maltes, Robert E. (Martha Medina) Maltes, and Stephen S. (Mary Jane) Maltes survive her.

Catherine M. McNamara
Of Rolling Meadows

A funeral mass for Catherine M. McNamara, 83, of Rolling Meadows, was celebrated Feb. 6 in St. Tarcissus Church. Interment followed in Queen of Heaven cemetery. She died Feb. 2. Surviving are her children, John (Mary), Kathleen, and Mary (Frank) Olcikas; and grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, and Juliana Olcikas, Sarah, Claire, and Keith McNamara, Paulina, Magdalena, Bogusia, and Ania McNamara. Arrangements were by Cooney Funeral Home, Park Ridge.

Lorraine A. Metzger
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Lorraine A. Metzger, 90, of Park Ridge, was held Feb. 6 in Cooney Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Acacia Park cemetery. She died Feb. 4. Widow of the late Karl Metzger, she is survived by children Yvonne (Ranchhodla (MD) Shah; and grandchildren Monalee, Devan, and Tara Shah.

Aydeth Padron
Maine West senior

A funeral mass for Aydeth Padron, 18, a member of the senior class at Maine West High School, was celebrated Feb. 9 in St. Mary Church, Des Plaines. Burial followed in All Saints cemetery. Arrangements were by G.L. Hills Funeral Home. A 15-year resident of Des Plaines, she died Feb. 5 in her home. Surviving are her parents, Andres and Bianca Padron; a brother, Freddy; brother-in-law Julio Acosta; and sisters Diana (Mikey) Alcozer and Loren Padron.

Germaine R. Serio
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Germaine R (Geri) Serio, 85, of Park Ridge, was held Feb. 6 in Cooney Funeral Home. Entombment was in All Saints cemetery. She died Feb. 4. Surviving are her husband, Gus; children Judith (Frank) Macino, Robert, and Mark (Cynthia), and grandchildren Frankie and Rick Macino, Holly, Shannon, Mark, and Tammy Hester; step-children Barbara and David Ladner; and companion Nooper. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald.
