MILDRED K. JACKS
Formerly of Arlington Hts., Mt. Prospect

A funeral Mass for Mildred K. Jacks, 99, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., took place Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Celilia Church in Mt. Prospect. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside. Mrs. Jacks was born on Oct. 20, 1907 in Chicago. She worked as a legal secretary for many years and lived in Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect before moving to Tennessee. She died at Alexian Health Care Center in Signal Mountain on Oct. 17, 2007. Her husband, Alexander, and her sons, Alexander II and Thomas (Audrey) Jacks, preceded her in death. Her grandchildren, Alexander Stephen (Jill) III, Tim (Debbie) Jacks, and Susan Jakonis and her six great-grandchildren survive her.

FRANK J. KUNICKA
Navy veteran of Niles

A funeral service for Frank J. Kunicka, 92, of Niles, was held Thursday, Oct. 18 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Visitation was held on Thursday prior to the service. Mr. Kunicka was born on April 15, 1915 in Sunbury, Penn. He was a veteran of the Navy and worked as a machinist. He passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 at Resurrection Nursing Center. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Julia, daughter Francine Cizek, grandson Michael Cizek and sisters Peggy Budrik and Stell Blumas. Mr. Kunicka is survived by his wife Josephine, daughter Maryann Underwood, son William Kunicka, grandchildren April Tucibat, Brad Underwood, Fawn Underwood and Carolyn Cusick and sister Julie Janicke.

NICHOLAS LASCIO
of Mt. Prospect

A Mass for Nicholas J. Lascio, 93, took place Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Cecilia Church in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Lascio was born on July 3, 1914 in Chicago. He died Thursday, Oct. 18.

HAROLD LAWSON
Formerly of Arlington Hts., Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Harold E. Lawson, 72, took place Sunday, Oct. 21, at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Lawson died on Thursday, Oct. 18. He was living in Racine, Wisc., after having been a resident of both Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect. He was born on Nov. 5, 1934 in Chicago.

GLADYS LORBIECKI
of Arlington Heights

A funeral Mass for Gladys Lorbiecki, nee Hersztek, 86, took place Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Our Lady of the Wayside Church. Interment was at Maryhill cemetery in Niles. Visitation preceded the Mass at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Lorbiecki was born on Feb. 1, 1921 in Chicago. She died on Oct. 20, 2007 at The Lutheran Home. Her sister Bertha Gray preceded her in death. Her husband Theodore; her children Rosemary (James) Gorski, Charlene (Ronald) Jedziniak, and Theodore (Mary) Lorbiecki; her seven grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren survive her.

EMILIA M. MALESKI
of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Emilia M. Maleski, 91, of Des Plaines, was held Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Mary Church. Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Oehler Funeral Home. Interment was at All Saints cemetery. Ms. Maleski was born on July 23, 1916 in Passiac, NJ. She worked in the food service department at Marshall Fields in Old Orchard or over 25 years. She passed away on Oct. 19, 2007 at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. and daughter Diane Butenschoen. Ms. Malewski is survived by her children Robert J. (Diane), Timothy J. (Laura), Nancy (Ken) Swanson, Lorraine (Jack) Balun and James (Elaine) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

CHARLENE MULEE
of Des Plaines

A memorial service for Charlene Edith Mulee, 68, a Des Plaines resident for 42 years, was held Oct. 20 in Hickory Hills Presbyterian Church, Hickory Hills. Interment of ashes will take place in Whitt, Texas, at a later date. Arrangements were by the G.L. Hills Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Formerly of Texas, New York, and Washington D.C., she died Oct. 11. At the Hickory Hills church, she was a deacon, played handbells in the choir, worked on the fellowship committee, and helped organize fund-raising for the annual Kentucky Mission benefit garage sale. Surviving are her husband, Leon Mulee; children Brian and Melanie (Robert) Swindle; grandchildren Amanda Cheron, Natasha Noel, and Veronica Rose; and siblings Jimmy Lee, Barbara, and Charles. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dewayne.

STANLEY P. NISKI
Past President of the Niles Chamber

A funeral for Stanley P. Niski of Niles, 78, will be held today (Friday) at 9:15 a.m., proceeding from Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Milwaukee Avenue to St. John Brebeuf Church for 10:00 service. Visitation was yesterday. Interment at Maryhill cemetery. Niski was born June 8, 1929 in Chicago. For most of his career he worked as an accountant in the trophy business, and later for Awards International & Trophy Co. on Howard Street in Niles. He provided many trophies and awards to corporate and private clients during the years, said his family. He fought in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict shortly before he met his wife, Theresa, through a cousin. A passionate businessman, Niski developed a reputation in the community for being likable and kindhearted. Those qualities helped him get elected President of the Niles Chamber of Commerce during its middle years. He took his position as president seriously, but also had fun with it, his wife recalled. "He enjoyed being with people, " said Theresa Niski. "One time [the Chamber] did a fashion show, and he was a model. He really made a show of it on the runway. That's the kind of person he was, an outgoing person that was liked by everybody." Niski's social initiative served him well as former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus North American Martyrs Council #4338 and a member of Niles VFW Post #7712.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodcarving, golfing, and going fishing with his son Michael. Niski passed away of Parkinson's related complications on Monday, Oct. 22 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Agnes nee Chmielewski Niski and his brother-in-law Edward Trzaska. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (nee Sowa) Niski, children Paul Niski, Michael (Maureen) Niski, and Nancy (Bob) Ramberg, grandchildren Caroline, Meghan Niski, Nicole Ramberg, and Mike Ramberg, and his sister Lorraine Trzaska. He was uncle to many. Memorial contributions to the National Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated.

HELEN C. POPIELA
of Mt. Prospect

A funeral mass for Helen C. Popiela, 93, of Mt. Prospect, was celebrated Oct. 18 in St. Raymond's Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment followed in St. Adalbert cemetery. Arrangements were by Friedrichs Funeral Home. Surviving are a son, Bruno (Dorothy) Popiela Jr., grandchildren Steven (Joyce) Benson, Paul Benson, Diedre Munao, Robert Popiela, and Richard Popiela; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno Sr., a daughter, Barbara (David) Benson, and 10 siblings.

ROBERT L. "BOB" RUSSO
Dedicated fan

A funeral Mass for Robert L. "Bob" Russo was held Wednesday, Oct. 17 at St. Raymond de Penafort Church in Mt. Prospect. Interment was at the Mound Prairie cemetery in Twin Lakes. Born in Chicago in 1936, Russo was a dedicated Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Russo enjoyed fishing and was an excellent dancer. A graduate of Lane Tech High School in Chicago, he enjoyed his work for many years as a cook on the intake crib in Lake Michigan for the Chicago Water Reclamation District. He died on Sunday, Oct. 14. Robert Russo is survived by daughter Susan (Timothy) Devine; brother John (Diana) Russo and Richard (Debbie) Russo and uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Russo. Arrangements were handled by Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect.

BERNARD TOMKO
of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Bernard J. Tomko, 72, took place Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Tomko was born on June 26, 1935 in Bloomsburg, Penn. He died on Friday, Oct. 19, at home. Burial was at Mount. Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst. He was a loyal Flying Tiger retiree. "My father worked for them out at O'Hare, " said Dan Tomko, Bernard's youngest son. Dan is the owner of Bog Theatre. "My father was a welder, and maintained the building and equipment for 15 years. He always said, 'He had the Tiger know how.'" Flying Tiger was one of the first delivery companies after the war, according to Tomko.
"My father was one of nine children from a small town in Bloomsburg, PA. He was stationed at O'Hare in the Air Force. Through a mutual friend, my parents were introduced. My father ended up not going back home. He settled here in Des Plaines, instead, " added Tomko. "My parents traveled the world. They went all over Europe, including Ireland, Denmark and went to Peru. He loved Arizona. My father worked hard and played hard. He was a great man. Sixty cars were in his funeral procession." Mr. Tomko is survived by his wife Barbara Tomko (nee Skeet), father of Victoria (Paul Jones), Laurence (Susan Spiewak), Daniel Tomko and Lisbeth Vinberg Engel. Grandfather to Connor, Elaine and Jake Tomko, Sam and Noah Tomko-Jones, and Jonah and Andrew Tomko-Smith. He also leaves a global circle of friends. Donations to Rainbow Hospice or your favorite charity are appreciated. Arrangements were handled by Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect.

HELEN J. ANDERSON
Retired Teacher

A funeral service for Helen J. Anderson (nee Moyer), 101, of Arlington Hts., a retired high school teacher and avid speller, was held Oct. 15 in the Lutheran Home, Arlington Hts. Burial was private. Arrangements were by the Meadows Funeral Home. A native of Madison, Nebraska, she was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and Wayne State Teacher's College. She taught English and French at Proviso High School. "She was a loving, doting grandmother, an avid reader, and game-player, and an avid speller, " a family member said. Widow of the late Emil A. Anderson, a former science teacher, she is survived by a daughter, Enid (Edie) Cichowski; and a grandchild, Marla Ann. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth J. Cichowski, and siblings George, Earl, and Harold Moyer. Memorials are requested to the Lutheran Home, Arlington Hts.

ROSE BERG
Of Palatine

A visitation for Rose Emma Berg (nee Walker), 75, will take place on Thursday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mrs. Berg died on Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. She was born on Oct. 11, 1932 in Baltimore, MD.

LORRAINE DOLINAJEC
of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Lorraine Dolinajec (nee Hoeft), 81, took place Monday, Oct. 15 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights. Interment was at Memory Gardens. Visitation was on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Dolinajec was born on Mar. 31, 1926 in Arlington Heights. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She died on Oct. 11, 2007 in Arlington Heights. Her husband of 58 years, Thomas L. Dolinajec; her children Kathy (James) Kolb, Michael (Sylvia) Dolinajec, Patricia (Douglas) Utzke, and Janice (Brian Rehberger) Rogers; her grandson Steven Dolinajec; her sisters Dorothy Philbin and Ruth Wheeler; and many nieces and nephews and cousins survive her. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Peter Lutheran Church are appreciated.

JUNE R. ERICKSON
of Arlington Heights

A funeral service and interment for June R. Erickson, 90, was private. Mrs. Erickson was born on June 30, 1917 in Frederick, Maryland. She was a 41-year resident of Arlington Heights and died in her home on Oct. 4, 2007. Her husband Kenneth and her siblings preceded her in death. Her children Richard E. Erickson and Christine L. Reese; her grandchildren Scott Erickson, Dr. Brian (Stephanie) Erickson, Lynette Knaack, and Kendall Reese; her great-grandchildren Kyle, Nathan, Jacob, and Katelyn; and many nieces and nephews survive her. Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights made funeral arrangements.

CAROLINE GROCHOCINSKI
Of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for Caroline V. Grochocinski, 91, of Rolling Meadows will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Colette Church. Visitation was held yesterday (Tuesday) at Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will be at Maryhill cemetery. Ms. Grochocinski was born on May 30, 1916 in Chicago. She passed away on Oct. 14, 2007 at Alexian Brother Medical Center in Elk Grove. She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley. Ms. Grochocinski is survived by her children Vincent (Janet) Grochocinski, Joyce (Michael) Culyba, Linda (Dennis) Huhn, Victoria Grochocinski, JoAnn (Leonard) Jagla and Ann Marie Harang, her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

SAMIR R. GUIRGUIS
Native of Egypt

A funeral service for Samir R. Guirguis, 84, of Arlington Hts. will be held at 12:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) in St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church of Chicago, 2100 W. Frontage Road, Palatine. Entombment follows in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines. Arrangements are by the Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows. A native of Egypt, Guirguis died Oct. 6 in Holy Family Medical Facility in Des Plaines. He worked as a banker in Egypt for many years. Surviving are his widow, Yvonne; children Maha (Medhat) Tannous, Hesham (Mary) and Hani (Cecile) Guirguis; six grandchildren; and sibling Helmy Guirguis.

RAY E. HIMES
Founding member of Willow Creek

Funeral services for Ray E. Himes, 93, were held Monday, Oct. 15 at noon at the Chapel of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington. Visitation preceded the funeral service at the church. Born Aug. 15, 1914 in Oshkosh, WI, Mr. Himes, was a resident of Mt. Prospect since 1967. He was a founding member of Willow Creek Community Church. He died in his home on Oct 10. Himes was a retired Maytag salesman who worked for the company for more than 30 years. Mr. Himes was the husband of Elaine R. Himes (nee Jonas), father of daughters Lynn (Paul) Jurgensen, Pam (Jeff) Lucas, Carrie (John) Aeschliman and Jane Gracz; son Mark (Maureen) Himes; grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of two. Arrangements were made by Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect.

DOROTHY KEEFE
Formerly of Park Ridge

A Mass was celebrated for Dorothy L. Keefe, 83, (nee Gallagher), formerly of Park Ridge, on Sept. 25 at St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park Ridge. Visitation was in Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Burial in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines. Mrs. Keefe died Sept. 20 in Belmont Village, Glenview. Mrs. Keefe was a social worker with Catholic Charities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a son, Robert (Lynne) Keefe; grandson, Redmond Lyons-Keefe. Mrs. Keefe is survived by her children, Tom (Marie), Mary (Robert Scales), Michael (Mary Kelly), Margaret Cervantes (Marcelo) James (Jean) and William (Rai' Copeland-Keefe); grandchildren, Brendan and Deirdre Lyons-Keefe, Caitlin, Garrick, Emily, Daniel, Colin, Evan and Isabel Keefe, Sam and Emmet Scales and Xiu-Ji-Mia Keefe and sister, Sister Mary St. Liam. The family requests donations be forwarded to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Office of Development, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque IA 52003.
