World War II Veteran Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service was held for Jean D. Wegner of Arlington Heights, 81, at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. She was born on Oct. 20, 1926 in Chicago. He died Sunday, Apr. 20 at Church Creek Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights. She was a bookkeeper and served in the Navy during World War II. She is survived by her husband, George R.; children, Kenneth (Susan), Carol (James) Vyhanek and James (Andrea); grandchildren, Kristin, Karla, Louis, Andrew and Steven Wegner, Spc. Phillip and Jeffrey Vyhanek; and sister, Betty Molyneux. Mrs. Wegner was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ethel (nee Trent) Collins. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Alzheimer's Assoc. of Greater Chicago are appreciated.

William J. Zoladz
U.S. Army Veteran Of Niles

A funeral mass for William J. Zoladz, 84, a U.S. Army veteran and a long-time Niles resident, was celebrated Apr. 26 in St. Tarcissus Church. Burial followed in St. Adalbert cemetery. Arrangements were by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, he died Apr. 22 in Lutheran General Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a past Grand Knight and Sir Knight of the Knights of Columbus Lafayette Council #361, a member of North American Martyrs #4338, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He worked as a superintendent in a machine shop. Surviving are his son, Richard; grandchildren Anthony Bednarz of Niles, Shawn Zoladz, Robert Bednarz, and Laura Bednarz; siblings Josephine, Genevieve, Mitchell, Sigmund, Lillian, Stanley, Joseph, Mary Ann, and Walter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna (nee Wigdzinski), a daughter, Theresa Bednarz-Barth. Memorials are requested to the Knights of Columbus charities.

Edwin Bergstrom
Korean Conflict veteran of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for Edwin Arnold Bergstrom of Rolling Meadows, 79, was held Friday, June 13 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. He was born on June 7, 1929, in Chicago. He passed away Monday, June 9 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. He is an Army veteran in the Korean Conflict. He also worked as a draftsman for Otis Elevator Co. for over 45 years. He is survived by his children, Brenda (Edward) Bernas, Lisa (George) Byrd and Thomas; grandchildren, Alan (Sarah), Tammy, Robert and Eric Byrd; and great grandchildren, Cody and Kaitlyn Byrd. Mr. Bergstrom was preceded in death by his brother, Carl. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Warren T. Bessert
Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Warren T. Bessert, 64, of Mt. Prospect, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, at St. Raymond Church. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Matz Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment will be at All Saints outdoor Mausoleum. Mr. Bessert was born Nov. 11, 1943. He passed away on June 14, 2008. He is survived by daughter Julie Casey, granddaughter Anna Casey, brothers Larry and Dave and father Earl. He is preceded in death by wife Frances, brother Ronald and mother Lucille. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org/il.

William Y. Chung
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for William Y. Chung, 86, of Park Ridge, was held Wednesday, June 11, in Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment will follow in Ridgewood cemetery. He died June 5. Surviving are his widow, Rose; children Dorothy (Frank) Chao, Philip (Connie) and James (Elizabeth); and grandchildren Elizabeth, David, Jacqueline, and Larissa.

Georgia L. Dickerson
Of Arlington Heights

A committal service for Georgia L. Dickerson, 82, formerly of Fredericktown, Mo., took place on Thursday, June 12 at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was Wednesday, June 11 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Dickerson was born on Nov. 12, 1925 in Selmer, Tenn. to Clifford and Nancy (nee Carter) Graham. She was a homemaker and died on June 7, 2008 at Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. Her husband Elmer Leroy, her son David, and seven siblings preceded her in death. Her children Bonita Gale (Mike) Abene, George (Sandy) Dickerson, Roger (Heidi) Dickerson, and Roy Paul (Julie) Dickerson; her daughter-in-law Phyllis Dickerson; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Cora Covington and Mary Richardson; and many loyal friends survive her.

Osman Durmus
Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Osman Durmus, 79, took place Saturday, June 14 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment was at Woodlawn cemetery in Forest Park. Visitation was Friday, June 13 at the funeral home. Mr. Durmus was born on Mar. 10, 1929 in Turkey. He was a member of the Turkish American Assoc. of Chicago and died on June 12, 2008 at his home. His wife, Helen Durmus; children Rose (Scott) Sutherland, Durson (Patricia) Durmus, and Metin (Kathy) Durmus; his grandchildren Kevin, Julie, Jennifer, and Amy; and many friends and relatives in America and Turkey survive him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Assoc. are appreciated.

Edward Emery
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Edward L. Emery of Arlington Heights, 67, was held Saturday, June 14 at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. He was born on May 10, 1941, in Lansing, Mich. He passed away Wednesday, June 11 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (nee Pangborn); children, Kristin Kay, Randall (Amy) and Jason (Tammy Ruta); and grandchildren, Dylan and Drew Emery. Mr. Emery was preceded in death by his parents. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Edna Catholic Church or masses are appreciated.

Marvin A. Emmrich
Veteran of World War II of Arlington Heights

A funeral service and interment for Marvin A. Emmrich, 86, of Arlington Heights, will be held privately. Mr. Emmrich was born May 14, 1922 in Chicago. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army, and worked for Grisby Allison and A.J. Gerrad in Des Plaines for many years. He passed away on June 14, 2008 at Lexington of Wheeling. Mr. Emmrich is survived by wife Jeanne, children Gerald (Cheryl) Emmrich and Carol (Stan) Paluch, grandchildren Brian (Capri), Todd (Katherine) Paluch and Vicki (Eric) DeBruin and great-grandchildren David DeBruin and Shelby, Emerson and Emily Paluch. He is preceded in death by brother Earl.

Garry Falcone
Of Wheeling

A funeral service for Dr. Garry Keith Falcone, 54, of Wheeling, was held Friday, June 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago. Visitation took place on Thursday, June 12, at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Mr. Falcone was born Sept. 14, 1953 in Chicago. He grew up in Mt. Prospect and taught and several schools for many years. He passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at his sister's home after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Mr. Falcone is survived by sister Mari (Bill), brother Vincent "Vinny" (Vicki), brother Joseph Falcone and nieces and nephews Amanda, VJ, Jojo, Nicolina, Sophi, Savannah and Sierra.

Melville I. French
Navy Commander of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Melville I. French, 90, took place on Saturday, June 14 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment was private. Visitation preceded the funeral. Mr. French was born on Sept. 19, 1917 in Chicago Heights. He was a retired commander in the U.S. Navy. He died on June 12, 2008 at his home. His son James (Jeanne) preceded him in death. His wife Mary Jane French, his children John (Jerri) French, Kay (John) Miller, and his grandchildren Jaclyn, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Adam, Jared, Benjamin, and Joshua survive him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Meals on Wheels are appreciated.

Irene A. Kirby
Of Des Plaines

A funeral mass for Irene A. Kirby, 94, of Des Plaines, will be celebrated in St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson Street, Des Plaines, at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, June 19). Burial will follow in St. Mary cemetery, Evergreen Park. A native of Chicago and a 30-year resident of Des Plaines, she died June 12 in Lutheran General Hospital. She worked as an auditor for Sears Roebuck & Co. Arrangements are by G.L. Hills Funeral Home, Des Plaines. She was also a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital for 20 years, and was a member of the Des Plaines Historical Society. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Bethards; and grandchildren Robert, Raymond Jr., Paul, Kathryn, and Maureen. Four siblings, her son Edward (Mary), and her husband, Edward, preceded her in death.

Janice Konsbruck
Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Janice Clara Konsbruck, 64, of Des Plaines, was held Saturday, June 14, at G.L. Hills Funeral Home. Visitation took place prior to the service. Interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Ms. Konsbruck was a member of St. Francis Borgia Church in Chicago and the Chicago Deaf Club. She was a resident of Des Plaines for 30 years. She passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Ms. Konsbruck is survived by husband Christopher Neal, children Michael and James (Lynn), siblings John Ohlson, Marian Ohlson, Christine Ohlson, Peter Ohlson, Lucia Smith, Martin Ohlson and Daniel Ohlson, grandchild Dylan, many nieces and nephews and dog Molly. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Center on Deafness, 3444 Dundee Road, Northbrook IL 60062.

Sylvia A. Kurczaba

A funeral service for Sylvia A. Kurczaba, 90, of Arlington Heights was held Saturday, June 14, at St. Mary Church in Buffalo Grove. Visitation took place on Friday, June 13, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Ms. Kurczaba was born Oct. 30, 1917 in Chicago. She passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Lexington Health Center in Wheeling. She is preceded in death by husband Joseph, son Joseph (Kathleen Gordon) and brother Ted Ozga. Ms. Kurczaba is survived by daughter Joan H. (late Carmen), grandchildren Patricia (Kevin Kilpatrick) Sparreo, John (Monica) Sparreo and Michael (Lisa) Sparreo, great-grandchildren Molly, Graham, Logan, Chandler, Luke, Haechel, Natalie, Jacob and Isabelle and sisters Alice Nycz and Helen Skrenta.

Virginia A. Lavelle

A funeral service for Virginia A. Falkowski LaVelle, 84, of Arlington Heights, was held Monday, June 16, at St. Mary Church. Visitation took place Sunday, June 15, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Michael the Archangel. Ms. LaVelle was born Mar. 2, 1924 in Kewanee, Ill. She passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Ms. LaVelle is preceded in death by brother Edmund Falk.

David McCauley
World War II veteran of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for David Clifford McCauley of Rolling Meadows, 92, was held Saturday, June 14 at St. Colette Church in Rolling Meadows. Interment was held at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery. He passed away Thursday, June 12. He was a WWII Army veteran and had been employed by Illinois Bell for 40 years. He was also a lifetime member of Arlington Heights VFW Post 891 and Illinois Bell Pioneers. He is survived by his children, Rita (Mark) von Schaumburg and Mary Glass; grandchildren, Erin, Kevin, Lauren and Rachel; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. McCauley was preceded in death by his wife, Rita (nee Mimi); parents, David and Isabelle (nee Bruckheimer); and siblings, John McCauley and Isabelle Braddock.

Helen M. Niemotka
Of Des Plaines

A funeral mass for Helen M. Niemotka, 62, took place on Saturday, June 14 at St. Emily Church. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Visitation was Friday, June 13 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mrs. Niemotka was born on Nov. 26, 1945 in Chicago. She was an avid shopper and cake decorator whose greatest joys in life came from being her grandchildren's "Busia". She died on June 9, 2008. Her husband Robert J. Niemotka; her children Michael (Leisa), Deborah (Michael) Wolownik, and Raymond (Amanda) Niemotka; her grandchildren Samson, Isabella, Justin, Leah, Nina, and Wyatt; her sister Theresa (late Casey) Powyszynski, and her "honorary daughter" Sheila Curia survive her.

Joan R. OHeath

A funeral mass for Joan R. OHeath, 78, of Niles, was celebrated June 16 in St. Juliana Church. Burial was private. Arrangements were by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. A native of Chicago, she died June 12 in her home. She worked as a direct marketing secretary. Widow of the late John OHeath, she is survived by daughters Karen of Chicago and Kathy (Brett) Padjen; grandchildren Eric and Scott Padjen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cella Gollk.

Ronald Reehoff
Formerly of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Ronald Frederick Reehoff of Loudon, Tenn., and formerly of Elk Grove Village, 79, was held Saturday, June 14 at Davenport Family Funeral Home in Crystal Lake. He passed away Saturday, June 7. He was retired from IBEW 134 in Chicago. He was also an avid Chicago sports fan and golfer. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Kimberly (Pete) Johnson and Lisa (Bruce) Krause; grandchildren, Kevin and Carrie Sell, Amanda and Abby Krause; brother, Ken (Joyce); and nephews, Chris and Kyle Reehoff. Mr. Reehoff was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Eleanor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Cubs Care at Wrigley Field.

Norma Schaad
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Norma Mary Schaad of Arlington Heights, 81, was held Saturday, June 14 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. She was born on May 27, 1927, in Chicago. She passed away Tuesday, June 10 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. She enjoyed spending time with the Norge Circle of Fox River Grove and anytime she could commune with nature, feeding birds and squirrels, or viewing the autumn colors. She is survived by her children, John W. "Jay" IV (Cheryl) and Joy M.; sisters, Janet Skogen and Grace (Erich) Herrmann; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Schaad was preceded in death by her husband, John W. III; sister, Helen; and parents, Oluf and Johanna (nee Bergerskogen) Skogen. Interment was private.
