U.S. Army Veteran of Niles

A funeral service Fred J. Skorniak, 84, of Niles, was held Monday, June 16, at St. John Brebeuf Church. Visitation took place Sunday, June 15 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Mr. Skorniak was born May 14, 1924 in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a letter carrier for the post office for many years. He passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Lutheran General Hospital. Ms. Skorniak is preceded in death by wife Nina (Gunia), parents Joseph and Honorata and sister Helen Powell. He is survived by wife Franciszka (Baj), sisters Frances Kedzior and Dorothy Larson and many nieces and nephews.

Theodore Stolarz
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service Theodore J. Stolarz, 80, of Park Ridge, was held Saturday, June 7, at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home. Visitation took place Friday, June 6, at the funeral home. Interment was at Maryhill cemetery. Mr. Stolarz was professor emeritus at Chicago State University (formerly Chicago Teachers College) and a graduate of Northwestern University. He is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Veronica and brother Edward J. He is survived by many dear friends.

James Stowe
Air Force Veteran of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for James Leland Stowe, of Mt. Prospect, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 18) at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. Visitation took place Tuesday, June 17, at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment will be at All Saints cemetery. Mr. Stowe was born on Nov. 17, 1932 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He is an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked for 33 years at AT&T; as an engineer and account manager. He passed away on June 14, 2008 in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Stowe is survived by wife Mary Joyce, children Victoria (Charles) Barnard, Debra (Thomas) Ruberto, Michael (Lynn) Stowe and James (Terri) and grandchildren Amanda Bernard and Lauren, Rachel, Emily and Allison Stowe.

Michael Sullivan
Of Park Ridge

A funeral mass for Michael Sullivan, 69, took place on Tuesday, June 17 at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church. Interment was at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was on Monday, June 16 at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Mr. Sullivan was a native of Scartaglin County Kerry, Ireland and a member of Local #399. He died on June 13, 2008. His son Michael (Karen Zelic) preceded him in death. His wife Nora Mai (nee Healy); his children Patrick (Maureen), Cathleen (Michael) Mullane, Joan (Tom) McNamara, Noreen (Mike) Hart, and Shawn; his grandchildren Michael, Brendan, Patrick, Sheila, Thomas, Samuel, Mathew, Maura, Michael, and Mairead; and his siblings Patrick O'Sullivan and Katherine Jakich survive him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Children's Memorial Hospital "Neuroblastoma" in the name of Michael Healy Sullivan are appreciated.

A funeral service for Patricia Ann Tuomey (nee Dunbar) of Buffalo Grove, 67, was held Friday, June 13 at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. She was born on Jan. 6, 1944, in Chicago. She passed away Saturday, June 7 at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. She is survived by her husband, James; children, Patti (Chris) Tuomey-Martin and Jim; grandchildren, Ava Cecilia and Katherine Grace; and brother, George (JoAnn) Dunbar

Margaret Viola
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service Margaret Ann Bachmann Viola, 71, of Park Ridge, was held Saturday, June 7, at Mary, Seat of Wisdom church. Visitation took place Friday, June 6, at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home. Ms. Bachmann died June 4, 2008 at home. She is survived by husband Anthony Viola, children Marlanne (Steven) Nemetz, James (Amy), John (Monique) and Michael (Elicia) Viola, grandchildren Sloane, Meg, Jack, Grant, Annie, Kristen, Tess, Lauren, William and Drake Viola and brothers John (the late Diane), James (Gee Gee) and Robert (Nancy) Bachmann.

Susan Watson
Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Susan C. Watson of Mt. Prospect, 66, was held Saturday, June 7 at Mt. Prospect Bible Church in Mt. Prospect. She was born on Sept. 24, 1941 in Dixon, Ill. She passed away Saturday, May 30. She is survived by her children, Michael and Matthew; sisters, Martha (Thad) Stewart and Donna (Ruedi) Billeter-Clark; brothers, Lee (Patti) Clark, Bruce (Gail) Clark and Robert Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth R. Whitnell
Of Arlington Heights

A memorial mass for Elizabeth R. Whitnell, 84, took place on Monday, June 9 at Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Arlington Heights. A committal service was Tuesday, June 10 in Scranton, Iowa. Mrs. Whitnell was born on Apr. 3, 1924 in Scranton, Iowa. She moved to Chicago and worked at Better Homes and Gardens in Chicago before becoming a homemaker. She moved to Arlington Heights in 1959 where she was an active member of Our Lady of the Wayside Church, a longtime volunteer at Northwest Community Healthcare Center, and an avid bridge player. She died on June 4, 2008 at Westbury Care Center in Lisle. Her husband Verne, her parents, her sister Kay Kidwell, her brother Edward Holden, and her daughter-in-law Patty preceded her in death.

Anthony Behrendt
Of Arlington Heights

A memorial gathering for Anthony E. Behrendt of Arlington Heights, 43, was held Wednesday, June 18. He was born on Jan. 10, 1965. He passed away Thursday, June 12. He was a graduate of Mundelein High School and attended Southwest Florida Community College. He worked as an eye technician for over 20 years. In 2006, he obtained his real estate license. Last year, he worked at Akorn Pharmaceuticals as a sales representative. He is survived by his mother, Mae; friend; Carl Niebour; sister, Laurie (Keith) Porter; brothers, Chuck (Barb) and Skip (Laurie); nieces, Cayla Porter, Brittany Ashley, Corinne and Cali Behrendt; and nephew, Chase Behrendt. Mr. Behrendt was preceded in death by his father, Charles, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to charity of choice.

Charlotte Brandt
Formerly of Palatine

A funeral service for Charlotte D. Brandt (nee Biebel) formerly of Palatine, 94, was held yesterday (Tuesday) at St. Raymond Church in Mt. Prospect. She was born on July 4, 1913 in Chicago. She passed away Wednesday, June 18 at Holy Family Health Center in Des Plaines. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Rita), Robert (Joan) and Mary (David) Reinhardt; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and brother, Edward (Betty) Beibel. Mrs. Brandt was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F.; and sister, Margaret (the late Jack) Erwin. Interment was held at All Saints cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Robert H. Brown
World War II Veteran of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Robert H. Brown, of Arlington Heights, was held on Friday, June 20, at Glueckert Funeral Home. Visitation took place prior to the service. Interment was held privately. Mr. Brown was born Dec. 25, 1922 in Benton, Ill. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force having served during WWII and later retired from the Air force reserve as a Lt. Colonel. He worked for many yeas at United Airlines. He passed away on June 13, 2008 in Arlington Heights. Mr. Brown is survived by his son Robert W. (Karen K.) and grandchildren Laura N. and Timothy R. He is preceded in death by wife June W. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, Memorials & Tributes, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago IL 60674, the American Cancer Society, 1114 N. Arlington Heights Rd. Arlington Heights IL 60004 or to a charity of choice.

Janet Buchholtz
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Janet Buchholtz, 59, of Park Ridge, was held Thursday, June 19, at Nelson Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment will be a private cremation. Ms. Buchholtz worked as an administrative assistant at United Airlines for many years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Park Ridge and Yaya Sisters Golf League. She passed away on June 16, 2008 at the Rainbow Hospice Ark in Park Ridge, Ms. Buchholtz is survived by husband Richard, sister Karen (Vito) Juknelis and nieces and nephews Dana (Matt) Lynch, Nick (Amy) Juknelis and Kara Juknelis.

Lillian Caligiuri
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Lillian Caligiuri, 82, will take place today (Wednesday), June 25, at 11 a.m. at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Cremation will be private. Visitation was Tuesday, June 24 at the funeral home. Mrs. Caligiuri died on June 21, 2008. Her husband Victor A. preceded her in death. Her children Leslie (Pamela), Victoria (Steven) Zapatka, and Elisa; her grandchildren Christina Mock (Rafael) Liano, Anthony (Allison) Tracey, Jennifer (Aaron) Groves, Kristy, Angela Mock, Laura Beth (Mark) Rogers, Kimberly Mock, and Victoria Mock; her great-grandchildren Christina, Rafael, Mattix, and Sanblago, her siblings Walter (Marie) Andersen and June Conway; and many nieces and nephews survive her.

Robert Clausen
World War II Veteran of Niles

A funeral service for Robert Clausen of Niles, 82, was held Friday, June 20 at St. John Brebeuf Church. He was born on Sept. 19, 1925, in Oak Park. He passed away Wednesday, June 18 at home. He was an army veteran serving in World War II. He was also vice president of Bismarck Hotel. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Listman); children, John (Kathy), Susan (Jerry) Miceli, Robert (Maureen) Patti, David (Catherine) and James (Kathleen); grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) Clausen, Courtney (James) Olson, Katherine Olson, Jerry (Brandi) Miceli, Caroline (Joseph) Persivale, David, Jenna, Lauren and Michael Clausen; great grandchildren, Emily and Natalie Persivale, Brady Clausen, and Andrew Troyer. Mr. Clausen was preceded in death his parents, Frederick and Lillian (nee Katowski) Interment was at Maryhill cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Rainbow Hospice.

Theresa Conard
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Theresa Marie Conard of Arlington Heights, 76, was held Friday, June 20 at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. She was born on Dec. 7, 1931, in Chicago. She passed away Sunday, June 15 at Lexington of Wheeling Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, James L.; children, Susan (Pat) Palmese, Linda (Rich) Lodygowski, Peggy (Keith) Kremske, and Michael (Linda); several grandchildren; and siblings, Eleanor Bajorek and Leo Poterek, Jr. Mrs. Conard was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Betty Domanski, Lillian Drazek and Loretta Jerzynski Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Bonnie L. Fuko

A funeral service for Bonnie L. Fuko (nee Devonald), 55, took place on Thursday, June 19 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Palatine. Visitation was at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows on Wednesday, June 18. Mrs. Fuko was born on Sept. 5, 1952 in Waukesha, Wisc. She worked as a pre-school teacher for the Palatine Park Dist. for more than 15 years and died on June 16, 2008 at her home. Her parents David and Joey Devonald preceded her in death. Her husband Dean, her children Chad and Brett (Katie) Fuko, her grandchild Nathan Fuko, and her siblings David (Paulette) and James (Anne) Devonald survive her. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, 5550 W. Touhy Ave. Ste. 302, Skokie, Ill. 60077 are appreciated.

Dale "Ernie" Griffith
U.S. Army Veteran of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Dale "Ernie" Griffith, 74, took place on Friday, June 20 at Elk Grove Presbyterian Church in Elk Grove Village. Interment was at Arlington cemetery in Elmhurst. Visitation preceded the service. Mr. Griffith was born in Glendale, Calif. He was the retired president of Griffith Builders Corp. and the retired project manager and vice president of GBC Unlimited, Inc. He was a member of the Prairie Schooners Square Dance Club and enjoyed scuba diving. He died on June 15, 2008 at the University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville, Kent. His wife Kathleen (nee Campbell), his children Duane E. (Kathy) and Debra E. (John) Toppel, and his grandchildren Cindy, Michelle, Nicole, and Dale survive him. His first wife, Dolores "Dee" (nee Pooler), preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your favorite charity are appreciated.

Patrick Haala
Of Prospect Heights

A funeral service for Patrick W. J. Haala, 67, of Prospect Heights, was held Saturday, June 21, at St. Raymond Church. Visitation took place Friday, June 20, at Friedrichs Funeral Home. Interment was at All Saints cemetery. Mr. Haala was born June 12, 1941 in Sleepy Eye, Minn. He was a 1964 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and worked as a financial consultant for the government and the private sector in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He passed away on June 14, 2008. Ms. Haala is survived by wife Denise, son Andrew, parents Elmer and Mabel and sisters Marlene Schwartz, Judy Peters and Barb (John) Jahnke. Jack Halama

A funeral service for Jack Joseph Halama of Des Plaines, 72, was held Wednesday, June 25 at Matz Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment was private. He was born on Aug. 4, 1935 in Chicago. He passed away Saturday, June 21 at the Hines V.A. Hospital in Hines, Ill. He is survived by his wife, Angie (nee Martorano); children, Maria (David) Piper, Vincent (Tracey) and Joseph (Lisa); seven grandchildren; and sister, JoAnn (Bob) Harbeck.

Gust E. Hermanson
World War II Veteran, Native of Sweden

A funeral service for Gust E. Hermanson, 65, of Arlington Heights was held Wednesday, June 18 in Meadows Funeral Home. Interment followed in St. John cemetery, Arlington Heights. A native of Falkoping, Sweden, he died June 8 in Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. He was a veteran of World War II service in the Army. He worked for University of Illinois as an accountant for more than 25 years. Surviving are his daughter, Greta (Gregory) Broxham; brother Carl (Betty) and his grandchildren. His wife, Charlotte, and his son, Mark Hermanson, preceded him in death.
