A funeral service for Doris H. Scherer, of Arlington Heights, was held on Wednesday, Apr. 4 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Ms. Scherer was born on Jan. 31, 1923 in Lowden, Iowa. She served as head nurse at the Lutheran Home and Services for the aged. She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church as a social ministry volunteer. She was also a member of P.E.O. and the retired nurses' group at Luther Village. She is preceded in death by her husband Reverend Dr. Ross P. Scherer and parents Henrik and Alma Hoffmeier. Ms. Scherer is survived by her children Rebecca Koppel, Dr. Thomas (Silvia) and Mary (Meinrad) Scherer-Emunds, grandchildren Jen, Justin, David, Stefan, Liz, Daniel, Camia and Erik, great-grandchildren Amber, Amanada and Mitchell and brother Delmar (Mary) Hoffmeier. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or Lutheran Home and Services, 800 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights, IL 60004.

FLORENCE C. SMALLEY
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Florence C. Smalley, 89, of Arlington Heights, was held Monday, Apr. 9 at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Visitation took place Monday prior to the service. Interment was at Concordia cemetery in Hammond, Indiana. Ms. Smalley was born Mar. 1, 1918 in Chicago. She died Apr. 4, 2007 at the Lutheran Home. She is preceded in death by her husband George and brother John A. (Rose M.) Lind. Ms. Smalley is survived by son George L. Smalley Jr. and sister Alice M. (late Chester) Murphy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lutheran Home.

PATRICIA SOLTYSIK
Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Patricia D. Soltysik of Mt. Prospect, 50, was held Tuesday, Apr. 10, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect. Visitation was held the day before at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., in Arlington Heights. Interment was private. Mrs. Soltysik was born on Dec. 29, 1956 in Chicago. She died Thursday, Apr. 5 in Park Ridge. She is survived by her husband, Steven; daughters, Aida and Constance; sister-in-law, Louise Goes; and her brother-in-law, Alan (Mary) Soltysik.

JAMES STAVROS
Of Prospect Heights

A funeral service for James Stavros of Prospect Heights, 76, was held Saturday, Apr. 7, at Maryville Academy, Marion Chapel in Des Plaines. Mr. Stavros was born on Oct. 20, 1930 in Arlington Heights. He died Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. He was a member of the Wheeling Township Democratic Committeemen from 1961-1969. He is survived by children, Helen (Don) Reynolds), Jimmy (Michaela), Tracy (John) Brienen, Kelly (Tony) Cupini and P.J. (Margaret Hanrahan); grandchildren, Meghan, Donny, Sean, Brian, Colleen, Jimmy, Aidan, Kieran, Anthony, Elizabeth, Delaney, Meredith, Henry and Calder; sister, Ethel (Late Erwin) Dahm. Mr. Stavros was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Tracy); and his parents Anthony and Helen (nee Phillips). Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Elizabeth Stavros Memorial Fund.

FRANCES SWIDER
Of Niles

A funeral service for Frances M. Swider of Niles, 88, was held Saturday, Apr. 7, at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Visitation was held the day before. Interment was held at Maryhill Mausoleum. Mrs. Swider was born on Mar. 22, 1919 in Chicago. She died Wednesday, Apr. 4 at Lutheran General Hospital. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Elayne (Gerald) Zarmin; grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Swider was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene (Leonard) Zimka; her parents Joseph and Frances (nee Gora) Pazdioch.

RUTH TUOMI
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Ruth Elaine Tuomi of Arlington Heights, 83, was held Monday, Apr. 9, at Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Heights. Visitation was held the same day prior to the service. Mrs. Tuomi was born on May 23, 1923 in Ada, Ohio. She died Wednesday, Apr. 4 at Lutheran Home and Services. She received a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University. She worked at Young and Rubican Advertising Agency in New York; taught English in Wrightsville, Pa.; worked in the College of Education Office at Ohio State University; and taught at Forest View High School in Arlington Heights. In retirement, she continued to grade papers for High School Dist. 214. She also had several poems published and belong to both Writers Groups and Book Discussions. She is survived by her children, Dr. Donna (Dr. Paul) Beck and Rev. Mary (Rev. Stephen) Hammond; grandchildren Allison, Byron, Stephanie, Sarah, Rachel and Grace; brother, Edwin (Pat) Campbell and her sister-in-law Agnes Campbell. Mrs. Tuomi was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; sister, Mary Louise Campbell; and her brother, Ivor Campbell. Interment was held at Memory Gardens cemetery in Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Church of the Incarnation United Methodist or to the American Cancer Society.

JOHN WARDELL
Of Palatine

John W. Wardell of Palatine formerly of Barrington, 77, died Monday, Apr. 2. He was born on Oct. 25, 1929. He graduated from high school in Mt. Erie, Ill. when he was 16. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois and Order of the Coif from the University of Illinois College of Law. he served as a counselor to both Standard Oil and Motorola, general counsel to Matsua electronics, and in private practice for many years. He is survived by siblings, Bob, Peter, and Mary Sue; his four children; seven grandchildren; companion, Jackie Harris; and his many friends and colleagues. Respect and remembrances will be shared at a luncheon at noon on Apr. 30, at Woodstock Country Club.

Rev. Francis Joseph Cerniglia
Pastor Emeritus Cerniglia Will Be 'Missed Greatly'

A funeral Mass for the Rev. Francis Joseph Cerniglia, 80, was said yesterday by Cardinal Francis George at Queen of the Rosary Church in Elk Grove Village, where Cerniglia was pastor emeritus. Visitation took place Monday. Interment will be at All Saints cemetery. Cerniglia was born Aug. 23, 1926. He grew up in Chicago. From the time he served as alter boy at Santa Maria Addolorata Church, he had longed to become a priest, said his sister, Constance Cleghorn. "He was very thoughtful of everybody, " said Cleghorn. "He will be missed greatly."
Cerniglia as described by his sister was a fun loving, gentle person who loved to teach. He was ordained in May 1953 at St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish in Des Plaines, shortly after the church was established. He taught alter boys and grade school religious classes. He also served as moderator for the men's club, said Cleghorn. After a 13 year stay at St. Stephen, he moved on. He served as assistant pastor in the mid 1970's at St. Isaac Jogues in Niles, and reportedly served in the rectory at St. Simian in Bellwood and St. John Bosco in Chicago. In 1980 he became pastor at Queen of the Rosary Church in Elk Grove Village, where he would spend the rest of his career. In 1996 he retired as pastor, passing the reins to Rev. Art Fagan, and became pastor emeritus. During his retirement he enjoyed taking vacation cruises in Europe and other destinations with Cleghorn and their family.
Cerniglia returned to the the priesthood occasionally to assist other priests or fill in while they were away, though he scaled that work back somewhat in the last few years, said Cleghorn. "He was a good, loving brother, " she said. "He was strictly for his people." Cerniglia passed away Thursday, July 26 at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago of complications from hepatitis. He is survived by Cleghorn, one other sister, Mildred Mangialardi, and many others. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Rosary Church, 720 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village, Ill.

DORIS DE SMET
Of Niles

A funeral service for Doris L. De Smet (nee Weyrich) of Niles, 76, was held Saturday, July 21 at Our Lady of Ransom Church. Visitation was held the day before at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment was held at Maryhill cemetery. Mrs. De Smet was born on July 2, 1931 in Chicago. She died Wednesday, July 18 in Park Ridge. She is survived by her children, Lynn, Jim (Cyndi) and Michael Baumhart; grandchildren, Anthony and Nicholas Baumhart; siblings, Carol Van Dycke and Annette Kaefer. Mrs. De Smet was preceded in death by her current husband, Albert and former husband, Nicholas Baumhart; and sister, Rosemary Maksa.

ALYCE MACKENZIE
Formerly of Park Ridge

A memorial service for Alyce Katherine MacKenzie (nee Frieder) formerly of Park Ridge, 96, is being planned. A private interment will be held at Glen Oak cemetery in Hillside. Mrs. MacKenzie was born on June 30, 1911. She died Sunday, July 22 at the Moorings Nursing Center in Arlington Heights. She is survived by her children, Scott (Nancy), James, and Catherine (Robert); 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

MARGARET O'SHEA
Of Chicago

A funeral service for Margaret O'Shea (nee Stack) of Chicago, 91, was held Friday, July 27, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation was held prior to the service at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment was held at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Mrs. O'Shea died Wednesday, July 25. She worked for Sears Roebuck for 40 years before retiring. She is survived by her nieces, Beth Gaffney and Mary Stopper; and cousin, Maureen O'Shea. Mrs. O'Shea was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis and brother Edward (Mary) Stack.

STANISLAWA PLICHTA
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Stanislawa Plichta of Park Ridge, 87, was held Saturday, July 28, at St. John Brebeuf Church. Visitation was held on Friday, July 27 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Mrs. Plichta was born on Oct. 14, 1919 in Wolka Wisniewska, Poland. She died Wednesday, July 28 at Biclanski Hospital in Poland. She worked as a nurse. She is survived by her daughter, Lidia (Jerzy) Filus; grandchildren, Krzysztof Filus and Andrzej Plichta; great grandchildren, Kamil, Krzysztof and Olga Plichta; sibling, Rev. Lucjan. Mrs. Plichta was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, Wenanty; parents, Julian and Ottolia Pawlik; and siblings, Jan, Jozef Pawlik, Stanislaw, Feliks Pawlik. Interment was held at Town of Maine cemetery in Park Ridge. Donations to the Council of Educators in Polonia would be appreciated.

FREDERICK PRELLBERG II
Formerly of Park Ridge

Frederick Charles Prellberg II of Bella Vista, Ark., and formerly of Park Ridge, 78, died Tuesday, May 22, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1928 in Park Ridge. He graduated from Maine Township High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the peace-keeping forces in Japan. He later attended Carthage College. He worked as a sales engineer for Ronk Electrical Industries for more than 30 years before retiring to Bella Vista. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf and relaxing on the lake. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Patricia (Bob) Carterette, Mark, Thom (Kay), Fred Prellberg III (Mahvash); and Joanne: and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Circle of Life Hospice or the Bella Vista Animal Shelter.

MARIETJE RAADSEN
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Marietje "Rita" Raadsen (nee Van Der Elst) of Arlington Heights, 78, was held at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mrs. Raadsen was born on July 16, 1929 in Holland. She died Monday, July 23 at Manor Care of Elk Grove. She is survived by her children, Corry (Don) Klipp, John, and Ron; grandchildren, Donald, Lennete and Jeffrey Klipp, and John P. and Jamin Raadsen; seven great grandchildren; and siblings, Annie De Voss and Cornelius Van Der Elst. Mrs. Raadsen was preceded in death by her husband, Pieter and son, Pieter. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.

PHYLLIS REDA

A funeral service for Phyllis B. Reda (Nee Garbacz) of Hoffman Estates, 64, was held Wednesday, July 25 at Church of St. Juliana. Visitation was held the day before at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Mrs. Reda was born on Oct. 28, 1942 in Chicago. She died Saturday, July 21 in Hoffman Estates. She is survived by her husband, Anthony J.; children, Anthony G. (Dana), Alessandra (Timothy) Loftus and Christine (Mike) Belford; grandchildren, Anthony W., Nicolas and Joseph Reda, Nora and Connor Loftus, Michael and Alison Belford; siblings, Lois, Michael and Joseph Garbacz, and Ginger Kozak. Mrs. Reda was preceded in death by her sisters, Michele Manos and Jeanine Garbacz. Interment was held at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery. Memorials to The Susan G. CAROL LO SASSO
Of Niles

A funeral service for Carol Lo Sasso of Niles, 71, was held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Mrs. Sasso was born on Sept. 5, 1935 in Chicago. She died Sunday, July 22 at Lutheran General Hospital. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Sam; children, Greg (Cher), Cindy (John) Niedospial, Claudia (Joe) Crigler, Matt (Debbie), and Christy (Ken) Santos; grandchildren, Lisa, Nick, Stephanie, Samantha, Jennie, Katie, Ashlee, Austin, Cali, and Nicky; and brother, Dick (Carol) Tollefsen. Mrs. Sasso was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Dorothy (nee Ribbon) Tollefsen. Interment will be at Maryhill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MS Society are appreciated.

JEFFREY C. WOCHINSKI
Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Jeffrey C. Wochinski of Arlington Hts., 44, took place Friday, July 27 at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Hts. Visitation was the previous day. Interment at Memory Gardens cemetery. Jeff was a well respected accountant for 25 years, working side by side with his Dad, Bruce, and brother, Todd, in the family accounting firm in Northwest Chicago for over 50 years. Jeff was also a family man‹well known in the community and also a common fixture at all three of his children's sporting events. Jeff is deeply missed by his family, whom he loved very much. Jeff was the loving husband of Tamara Wochinski (nee Heitman), proud and adoring father of Jeanette, Greg, and Lily Wochinski, cherished son of Bruce and Char Wochinski, caring grandson of Louise and the late Carroll Wolfinger, close brother of Todd (Becky) Wochinski and Kim Wochinski, fun loving uncle of Maegan, Nolan, and Kirsten Wochinski, special cousin of Dawn (Laura Woods) Wochinski and Nancy (Brian) Stadler, and fond son-in-law of Ted and Lynn Heitman.

ANNE L. BOUDA
Of Des Plaines

Services for Anne L. Bouda (nee Polony), 85, will be held Saturday, July 28, at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. She was born Dec. 13, 1921 in Chicago. She passed away July 22 in Evanston Hospital. Bouda was a homemaker who loved baking. She was retired from Central State in Rosemont. She also spent ten years waitressing in many local restaurants. Her family and friends were her life. Bouda was a former resident of Park Ridge and an over 50 year resident in Des Plaines. She is survived by her children Sandra (George) Wade, Nancy (Rick) Poulos; grandchildren Jennifer (Al) Woyna, Kimberly (Brian) Chudik, Marc (Ellen) Poulos and Jeff (Michelle) Gassmer; and five great grandchildren. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association or the Make A Wish Foundation.

RAYMOND F. CARLSON
of Park Ridge

Funeral services for Raymond F. Carlson, 91, will be held Saturday, July 28, at First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge. Carlson was the owner of Chicago Turnrite Company which he founded in 1948. He was also a member of the Park Ridge University Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge where he sang in the senior choir for 56 years. Carlson was preceded in death by his wife Maximiliane and siblings Lloyd, Lawrence and Dorothy Sommers. He is survived by his children Claudette Ohsann, Elaine Carlson (Dale) Drake and Raymond F. (Mary Therese) Jr.; grandchildren Michael, Patrick and Katie Ohsann, Christa Jenkins, Lindsay, Adam and Andrew Drake, and Emma, Grace and Kevin Carlson; great-grandchild Isaac Jenkins; siblings LouCeil Dahlen, Lillian Burch and Jerry (Carol); sister-in-law Gusti Koehler and caregivers Eileen and Mary. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge of Seasons Hospice in Des Plaines.
