A funeral service for Romualda Gerngross of Niles, 65, was held Friday, Apr. 27, at St. John Brebeuf Church. Visitation was held the day before at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Mrs. Gerngross was born on Jan. 3, 1942. She died Monday, Apr. 23 at Lutheran General Hospital. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Josef; mother, Anastasia (nee Tarasik) Zalewski; children, Monica Bacon, and Peter; grandchildren, Jessica and Jillian; siblings, Bogdan, Sofia and Diane. Mrs. Gerngross was preceded in death by her father, Jozef Zalewski. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to St. John Brebeuf Church are appreciated.

OLAF JOHNSEN
Of Des Plaines

A private funeral service for Olaf "Ole" C. Johnsen of Des Plaines, 79, was held Tuesday, May 8, at G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Visitation was held the day before. Mr. Johnsen was born on July 16, 1927. He died Thursday, May 3. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (nee Koster); children, Craig (Karen), Joy (Michael) Sawicki; grandchildren, Eric (Julie), Olaf, Kathryn (Jon), Jill, Allisen, Lauren; great grandson, Brett; and daughter-in-law, Judy. Mr. Johnsen was preceded in death by his son, Bruce (Diane). Memorials may be made to the Des Plaines Senior Center.

MARY IPPOLITO
Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Mary R. Ippolito of Elk Grove Village, 84, was held Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m. at St. Julian Eymard Church. Visitation was held at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment will be held at Queen of Heaven cemetery. Ms. Ippolito in Chicago. She died Monday, Apr. 30 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. She was never married . She was a retired Legal Secretary. She was also a member of the Sheila Ray Senior Center and Red Hat Society. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Janet (Roger) Mitchell-Vincent, Robert (Rose) Ippolito, James (Keri) Ippolito and James (Diane) Ippolito; 13 great nieces and nephews and 20 great great nieces and nephews. Ms. Ippolito was preceded in death by her siblings, Nancy, Louis (Emily) and Salvator (Blanch).

THOMAS MCNEIL, SR.
Of Lake in the Hills

A funeral service for Thomas J. McNeil, Sr. of Lake in the Hills, 66, was held Monday, May 7, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Barrington. Visitation was held the day before at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home in Palatine. Interment was private. Mr. McNeil was born on Feb. 16, 1941 in Highland Park. He died Thursday, May 3 in Elgin. He is survived by wife, Carol (nee Falbo); children, Kelly (Tim), Krissy, Tom Jr. (Maria), Kari, Richard (Cheryl), Billy (Gina), Bebbie (David) and Robert (Sue); 22 grandchildren; and brother, Jim (Maryann). Mr. McNeil was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack (the late Callie) and Patricia (the late Jack).

A private funeral service and interment was held for Gerald "Gary" L. Mellon of Palatine, 72. Mr. Mellon was born in Chicago. He died Sunday, Apr. 29 in Palatine. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Giorgetti); children, Lorianne (Richard) Aztlan, Karen Gordon, Timothy (Susan), Cyndy (John) Kay and Randy (Denise); grandchildren, Alan Gordon, Ryan, Nicole, and Faith Mellon, Hannah Aztlan, Quentin, Karley, Autumn, April Mellon, Erich, Paul, and Heidi Riemer; and great grandchild, Jordyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated for the Clearbrook Guardians.

JEANNETTE MOORE
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Jeannette S. Moore, 91, of Arlington Heights, was held on Saturday, May 5 at St. Simon Episcopal Church. Visitation took place prior to the service at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment was at Graceland cemetery in Chicago. Ms. Moore was born on Mar. 1, 1916 in Chicago. She passed away on May 3, 2007 in Schaumburg. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Stephanie Ziobrowski, husband Clarence, brother Ted Ziobrowski, brother-in-law John Piochacz, sister-in-law Emily Ziobrowski and niece Patricia Schneeweiss. Ms. Moore is survived by her daughter Joann Langley, grandchildren Sara (Jon) Michael and Todd Langley, sister Stella Piochacz, goddaughter Jeannette Golemba and nephews Jerry, Dennis and Gregory Ziobrowski. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Cradle Foundation, 2049 Ridge Ave., Evanston IL 60201.

GERTRUDE MUELLER
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Gertrude Mueller (nee Sunagel) of Arlington Heights, 92, was held Friday, May 4, at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Visitation was held the same day prior to the service. Mrs. Mueller was born on Oct. 3, 1914 in Chicago. She died Wednesday, May 2 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights She is survived by her children, Fern (the late Peter) Petramale, Edwin (Ilene) Mueller; 10 grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren; and sister, August Sunagel. Mrs. Mueller was preceded in death by her husband, John E.; and daughter, Joann Wagner. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Commitment 26 Incare of the Lutheran Home.

WILLIAM PRENTICE, JR.
Of Des Plaines

A funeral service and visitation for William Prentice, Jr. of Des Plaines, 86, took place Saturday, May 5 at G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Interment private. Mr. Prentice was born Dec. 30, 1920 in Newhall, Wv. He worked as a research scientist at U.S.G. During his life, the World War II Army Veteran was a master mason and ceramic engineer. He was affiliated with Virginia Poly Tech and served on the Des Plaines Public Library board. He passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Mr. Prentice is preceded in death by his brother and six sisters. He is survived by his wife, Josephine nee Whitlock Prentice, five sons, William (Caren) Prentice III, John (Terri) Prentice, Alexander Prentice, Robert (Sue) Prentice, and David Prentice, two daughters, Joyce Howard and Paula (John) Steffan, 22 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

NICHOLAS SMIEWEC
Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Nicholas P. Smiewec of Elk Grove Village, 61, was held Monday, May 7, at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Visitation was held the day before. Interment was held at Elmwood cemetery in River Grove. Mr. Smiewec was born in Germany. He died Wednesday, May 2 at Sherman Hospital. He is survived by his children, James T. and Laura M. (Tim) Sheehan; granddaughter, Lindsey Sheehan; and brother, William (the late Sandra). Mr. Smiewec was preceded in death by his wife, Luba (nee Placuszok); and parents, Peter and Tina (nee Lazarenko).

SIGRID THOMPSON
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Sigrid Thompson, 100, of Arlington Heights, was held on Saturday, May 5 at Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church. Visitaiton took place on Saturday prior to the service at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment was at Mt. Olive cemetery. Ms. Thompson was born on Nov. 6, 1906 in Chicago. She passed away on May 2, 2007 in Arlington Heights. She is preceded in death by her parents Anton and Anna Anderson, husband Tieman and son Howard. Ms. Thompson is survived by her daughters Barbara (Harold) Tonnesen and Marion (Paul) Kangas, grandchildren Debbie (Keith) Bode, Nancy (Bob) Sloan, Dan (Linda) Tonnesen, Lynn Kangas, Lori Bond, Paul (Kris) Kangas and Karin (Nick) Garite, and her 19 great-grandchildren.

BERNICE ZARNSTORFF
Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Bernice E. Zarnstorff (nee Grenzel), 85, took place on Monday at Matz Funeral Home. Mrs. Zarnstorff was born on July 13, 1921 in Burlington, Wisconsin. She died on Thursday, May 3, in Des Plaines. She was a retired technical writer for Teletype in Skokie. Mrs. Zarnstorff was survived by her daughter Sharon (Daniel) Perik, grandchildren Pamela (Joshua) Ceja and Jennifer Perik, and great grandchildren Vincent and Ryan. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford H. and brother Raymond Grenzel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Faith Lutheran High School Building Fund are appreciated.

JOHN BECKER
Of Palatine

A funeral service for John P. Becker of Palatine, 93, will be held Thursday, May 3, 10:30 a.m. at Meadows Baptist Church in Rolling Meadows. Visitation was to be held Wednesday at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Becker was born on Dec. 7, 1913 in Neu Verhas, Yugoslavia. He died Sunday, Apr. 22 at his home. He had worked in a factory for many years. He is survived by his children, Inge (Seno) Eichstadt, Rev. Jelmut (Christa), Horst (Elvera), Gary (Judy) and Johanna Tuozzo; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Becker is preceded in death by his wife, Katharina (nee Weimann). Interment was held at Ridgewood cemetery in Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice.

ZBIGNIEW "BILL" BURGRAFF
Of Des Plaines

Funeral services for Zbigniew "Bill" Burgraff of Des Plaines, 79, took place Friday, Apr. 27 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and St. Zachary Church. Visitation was the previous day. Interment at Maryhill cemetery. Mr. Burgraff was born Aug. 22, 1927. He worked as a machine operator. He passed away Tuesday, Apr. 24 at Northwest Community Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Jozefa nee Zawistoski Burgraff, and his daughter Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Janina Jean nee Pelszynski Burgraff, his son Casey (Margaret) Burgraff, and his grandchildren Justine and Nicole.

ROSEMARY ANN BUTLER
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Rosemary Ann Butler, 60, of Arlington Heights, was private. Ms. Butler was born on Feb. 11, 1947 in Chicago. She worked as a programmer for AT&T; for many years. She died on Apr. 24, 2007 at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents Galfords and Violet. Ms. Butler is survived by her sister Cathrine (Richard) Williams, brother Michael Butler and nephews Samuel and Joseph Williams. MARY SOPHIE CIERNY

A funeral service for Mary Sophie Cierny, 91, of Niles, was held Monday, Apr. 30 at St. John Brebeuf Church. Visitation took place Sunday, Apr. 29 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Ms. Cierny was born on Mar. 28, 1916 in Chicago. She was a homemaker for her family and a member of the Golden Age Club at St. John Brebeuf Church. She died on Apr. 27, 2007 at Lutheran General Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Sophie Piekarz, husband John Paul Cierny, sisters Eleanor (late Matthew) Bruch and Anne (Ted) Hendzel, and brother Stanley F. Jr. (late Lottie) Piekarz. Ms. Cierny is survived by her son Joseph, daughters Theresa (James) Anderson and Bridget (Bob) Romano, sons Jim (Marie) and John Jr., grandchildren Dawn, Kristi, James Jr., Robyn, Alexis and Kimberly, great-grandchildren Ashley, Kelsey, Sidney, Logan, Alexandria, James III, Michael and Amber, brother Mitchell (Pat) Piekarz and many nieces and nephews.

ERNEST EBERT

A funeral service for Ernest R. Ebert of Elk Grove Village, 85, was held Tuesday, Apr. 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle. Visitation was held the same day prior to the service. Mr. Ebert died Saturday, Apr. 21 at Manor Care in Elk Grove Village. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Lutheran Education Association, Department of Lutheran School Principals and Big 5 in Education. He is survived by his children, Paul (Debra) and Carol (Phillip) Thornton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Charlotte, Meredith, Marie; great-granddaughter, Eleanor. Mr. Ebert was preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. (nee Cicero). Interment was private and held at Irving Park cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran School in his name is appreciated.

GERTRUDE L. HOPPE
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Gertrude L. Hoppe, 90, of Arlington Heights, was held on Monday, Apr. 30 at The Lutheran Home. Visitation took place Sunday, Apr. 29 at the home. Interment was at Arlington cemetery in Elmhurst. Ms. Hoppe was born on Oct. 22, 1916 in Port Hope, Michigan. She passed away on Apr. 25, 2007 at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugo and brother Frederick (Elaine Kirk). Ms. Hoppe is survived by her brother Paul (the late Dorothy) Bertram, eight nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Lutheran Home, 800 W. HELEN JANIS

A funeral service for Helen P. Janis of Chicago and Homosassa, Fla., 69, was held Wednesday, Apr. 18 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Visitation was held the day before. Interment was held at St. Adalbert cemetery. Mrs. Janis was born on Jan. 14, 1938 in Chicago. She died Thursday, Apr. 12. She is survived by her husband, Walter C. Janis, Sr.; children, Terri R. Tinerella, Walter C. Jr. (Rosanna), David J. (Bridget); grandchildren, Tanya and Jayme Tinerella, Trinity and Ariana Janis; siblings John, Joseph and Stanley Luszowiak. Mrs. Janis was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Buckley.

DAVID L. LINDEMANN
Former Prospect High School Teacher

A funeral service for David L. Lindemann, of Buffalo Grove, was held on Wednesday, Apr. 25 at St. James Church. Visitation took place on Tuesday, Apr. 24 at Glueckert Funeral Home. Entombment was at All Saints Mausoleum. Mr. Lindemann was born on Feb. 21, 1931 in Chicago. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He then taught math at Prospect High School and later became a College Placement Counselor. He directed and choreographed plays for Prospect and other Dist. 214 schools, was an officer for the state association of admission counselors and was the senior class sponsor for many years. He retired in 1986 after 31 years with the district. Mr. Lindemann was also active at St. James Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and directed, choreographed and performed in St. James Productions. He was president of Music on Stage in Palatine and president of the homeowner's association for Cambridge of the Lakes. He was an avid gardener and loved flowers. He is preceded in death by his brother George and sister-in-law Elizabeth. Mr. Lindemann is survived by his wife Louise, sons Glen (Sharon) and Edward (Jerri), grandchildren Avonne, Regina and Johnny, and 12 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the St. James Building Fund, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004.

JOSEPH MICHAELS
Of Palatine

A funeral service for Joseph A. Michaels of Palatine, 73, was held at St. Colette Church. Visitation was held at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Michaels was born on June 13, 1933 in Chicago. He died Monday, Apr. 23 at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He was the former owner of the AJ Lowe and Sons, Inc. Plumbing Company in Downers Grove. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Marine Corp. In addition, he was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 130 and a member of the Lions Tiger AC. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (nee Pavlat); children, Cynthia (Robert) La Mantia, Kimberly (John) Nuebauer and Jodi (Joseph) Nelson; grandchildren, Sarah and Joey La Mantia, Jack Neubauer and Julia, Jake and Josh Nelson; siblings, Thomas (Patricia) and Jerome (Carol). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
