A funeral service for Richard A. Hovet, 55, of Prospect Heights was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Visitation took place Friday, Jan. 30, at Friedrichs Funeral Home. Interment was at Acacia Park cemetery. Mr. Hovet was born Dec. 6, 1953 in Chicago. He passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009. He is survived by wife Sandra, children Rebecca, Richard and Robyn, grandson Jacob and brother Robert (Patricia).

James Edward Johnson
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral mass for James Edward Johnson was held in St. James Church on Friday, Jan. 30 with interment following at Memory Gardens cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 29 at Glueckert Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 27, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa, and died at his home in Arlington Heights on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009. Johnson graduated from St. Ambrose University and completed his MBA at the University of Chicago. He worked as an accountant for North Shore University Health Systems. He was a doting father and devoted Northwestern University Wildcat fan. Johnson is survived by his wife of 44 years Karen; children Julie (Andy) Wallace, Jenny, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Johnson; grandchildren Jasmine and Jordan Edward Johnson, and Sydney and Emily Wallace and siblings Jacquie (the late Michael) Kallman, Barbara Ackerson, Mary (Richard Jr.) Burroughs, Trudy (Jerry) Lines and Rosemary Meekins. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Evelyn Johnson and his brother Bud (Eileen) Johnson.

William H. Koeller
Of Mt. Prospect

A memorial visitation for William H. Koeller, 61, formerly of Berkeley, took place Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Koeller was born on Aug. 11, 1947 in Chicago. He died on Jan. 29, 2009. His wife Elizabeth (nee Ringbauer) and his children Kimberly (John) Bliss, William (Rebecca) Koeller, Joseph Koeller, and Tamara (Donald) Carson survive him.

Ruth Doris Long
Of Rolling Meadows

Ruth Doris Long (nee Uldahl), 84, of Rolling Meadows died Jan. 30 in her home. Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 7, 11 a.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m., at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows. Interment at Memory Gardens cemetery, Arlington Hts. She was born Aug. 27, 1924 in Chicago. Worked for Marshall Fields and Co. at Old Orchard when it first opened. She was the wife of the late James P., mother of Carol (Donald) Layton. Grandmother of Jamie (Norman) Busse and Chad (Cathy) Layton. Great grandmother of Jordan and Maya Busse, Samuel, Michael and Grace Layton.

Ella Meyer
Retired Accountant

Ella Meyer, 95, of Arlington Hts. died Jan. 29 at The Lutheran Home. She was born June 19, 1913 in Arlington Hts. Meyer worked as an accountant for many years for Butler Comp in Des Plaines. She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Emma Meyer, sister of the late Della, Elsie, Alfred, Arthur, Ted, Elmer and Herman Meyer, Dora Bencic, Mary Pohlman, Clara Trost, Lena Held and Anna Hinneberg. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 3 until the time of service at The Lutheran Home, 800 W. Oakton, Arlington Hts. Interment was in Memory Gardens cemetery.

Catherine (Kitty) Pape
Of Park Ridge

A funeral mass for Catherine M. (Kitty) Pape, 98, of Park Ridge, was celebrated Feb. 2 in Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church. Burial followed in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines. A native of Chicago, she died Jan. 26 in St. Benedict Home, Niles. Arrangements were by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Widow of the late Capt. Frank W. Pape of the Chicago Police Department, she is survived by children Judith (Richard) Clark, and Gerald (Becky); and grandchildren Rick (Kathleen), David and Christopher (Keely) Clark, Kate (James ) Kennedy, Jerry, Frank (Anouk) Pape, and Becca (Ross Wenger) Pape.

Adrien Pearson
Veteran of WWII

Adrien Pearson of Des Plaines, died on Feb. 2. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 5, at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines Chapel, 2099 Miner St. A funeral service will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at Oehler. Entombment will be in All Saints cemetery. Born on June 17, 1924 in Canada, Winnepeg, Pearson was a veteran of World War II, was in the Coast Guard and worked as a carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Lee (nee Lash); daughter, Michele Stinger, son, Randall (Susan) Pearson, grandchildren Roberta (Tony) Gordon, Julie Tully, Rebecca Stinger, Jeremy Pearson, great grandchildren, Megan, Mia, Brendon, Abigail, Natalie, Gillian, Caitlin, brother, Edward (Marilyn) Pearson.

Janusz Piotrowski
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Janusz Piotrowski, 85, of Park Ridge, was held Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles. Visitation took place Friday, Jan. 23, at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Interment was at Maryhill cemetery. Mr. Piotrowski was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Lodz, Poland. He passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Rainbow Hospice Ark. He is survived by wife Cecylia and daughters Emilia Traczyk and Urszula Salamondra.

Vernette N. Shine

Memorial services for Vernette N. Shine (nee Pinzke), 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at First United Methodist Church, 668 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines. Interment is private. Born March 9, 1918, in Chicago, she died Monday, Jan. 19, in Des Plaines. Shine was a member of Des Plaines Homemakers. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and taking care of her grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Maurice W. Shine; mother of Maureen S. (Arnold) Ladd of Des Plaines, Sharon L. (Richard) Schehr of Colorado and Vickie E. (Dale) Quinn of Wisconsin; sister of Roy W. (Pat) Pinzke; grandmother of eight; great-grandmother of 15; and great-great grandmother of one. Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home, Des Plaines.

Lorraine I. Stanton

A funeral service for Lorraine I. Stanton, 92, of Edison Park, was held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at St. Juliana Church. Visitation took place prior to the service at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment was at All Saints cemetery. Ms. Stanton was born Jan. 4, 1917 in Chicago. She passed away on Jan. 23, 2009 at Resurrection Nursing and Rehab Center. She is survived by son Daniel (Peggy), grandchildren Sean, Eric and Caitlin, brother William J. Rooney Jr. and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents Isabel and William Rooney and sister Helen Geary.

Rita Ann Stark
Of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for Rita Ann Stark, 76, of Rolling Meadows, was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Colette Church. Visitation took place Friday, Jan. 30, at Meadows Funeral Home. Ms. Stark was born Nov. 10, 1932 in Bluffton, Indiana. She passed away on January 28, 2009 in her home. She is survived by husband Joseph, children John, Steve (Renee), Susan (Michael) Waszak, Carol (Thomas) Chandler and Kathleen (Gene) Magner, ten grandchildren and siblings Jacqueline Craven, Jim, Dave and Bob. She is preceded in death by siblings Richard and Donald Sommer.

Arline M. Walters
Formerly of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Arline M. Walters, 89, formerly of Mt. Prospect, was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Visitation was held prior to the service. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery in Niles. Ms. Walters was born May 26, 1919 in Chicago. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at DeKalb Area Retirement Center. She is survived by son Robert, granddaughter Kathryn, sister-in-law Florence Wasz, nieces Barbara (Larry) Beyna and Mary (Bisher) Mufti and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Louis.

Mercedes C. Welter

A funeral mass for Mercedes C. Welter, 91, of Des Plaines and formerly of Park Ridge, was celebrated Jan. 31 in St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park Ridge. Burial followed in St. Boniface cemetery. Arrangements were by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home. Widow of the late Raymond Welter of the Chicago Fire Department, she is survived by her son, Edward R. (retired, CFD), and grandchildren Mark (Susan) and Michael Welter.

G. Wayne Anderson
Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for G. Wayne Anderson, 76, of Park Ridge, was held Feb. 16 in St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Interment followed in Ridgewood cemetery. Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home, Park Ridge. He died Feb. 12. Surviving are his widow, Joanna M. (nee McIntyre); children Timothy (April) and Thomas (Susan); and grandchildren Christopher, Katie, Bryan, and Jonathan.

Carmelo Francesco Apa
Age 86

Beloved husband of Teresa, nee Rossignuolo; loving father of Gaetano Mele (Terri) Apa, Maria Teresa (Frank) Hess, Fernando Antonio (Tammy) Apa and Giuseppi Angelo Apa (fiancAŠ Oksana Theresa Bukaczyk); proud grandfather of 7: Daniel (Tonya) Apa, Angelo (Jenett) Apa, Lyn Apa, Amy Apa, Teresa Marie Hess, Mary Ann Hess, and Frank Hess III; great-grandfather of Dasani, DeVante, Julian, Selina and Amario. Carmelo was a WWII Prisoner of War who received four medals of bravery. He was married to Teresa for 56 years, was a Master Tailor for 66 years and was in business with his wife, Teresa, for 44 years. Carmelo was a member of the Italian American Police Association. Visitation Saturday, February 21, 2009 at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10:30 a.m. Entombment All Saints. Arrangements by Oehler Funeral Home 847-824-5155. Date of death February 18, 2009 in Park Ridge.

Richard C. Benson
Of Arlington Hts.

A memorial service was held for Richard Benson, 83, of Arlington Hts., at Grace Lutheran Church, Mt. Prospect, on Saturday, Feb. 14. Interment was in West Batavia cemetery. Born October 29, 1925 in Geneva, Benson died in his home on Feb. 8. He grew up in Batavia, enlisted in the Navy in World War II and was a graduate of University of Illinois as an electrical engineer. He was employed for 38 years with Commonwealth Edison. He was the husband of Betty Benson, father of sons, James (Tanya) of San Dimas, CA, Thomas (Pauline) of Houston, TX and Mark (Lynne) of Hoffman Estates. Grandfather of Lisa, Scott, Matthew, Michael, Katherine, Nathan, Trevor and Tyler. Loving brother of Mary Glynn of Rockford.

Emilia Z. Chromik
Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Emilia Z. Chromik, 89, took place Saturday, Feb. 14 at St. Zachary Church. Interment will be at St. Adalbert cemetery. Visitation was at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles on Feb. 13. Mrs. Chromik was born on June 2, 1919 in Chicago. She died on Feb. 8, 2009 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. Her husbands Jan Chromik and Stanley Buchaniec preceded her in death. Her children Walter (Mariola) Buchaniec, Stanley (Stella) Buchaniec, and Theresa Badshid survive her.

Fiona Lynne Fitzpatrick
Of Des Plaines

Fiona Lynne Fitzpatrick, of Des Plaines, two months shy of her third birthday, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Lutheran General Hospital after a lifelong battle with Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia. Daughter of Mary and John; sister of Katie and Maggie; granddaughter of Walter and Bette Nohelty and John and Mary Fitzpatrick; niece of Kathy (Tom) Walczak, Lori Anne (Joe) Stanger, Cindy Nohelty, Kerry (Carlos) Molina, Mike (Weeze) Fitzpatrick, Kevin (Eileen) Nohelty, Julie (John) Falbo, Tim Fitzpatrick and Sean (Raymond Boney) Nohelty; cousin of Nicholas, Sarah and Joseph Stranger, Mackenzie and Maeve Molina; Michael, Declan and Grace Fitzpatrick, Kay and Jack Nohelty and Rachel and Megan Falbo. A celebration of Fiona's life will be held Sunday, Feb. 22 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., at Old Orchard Rd., Skokie. Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Interment at All Saints cemetery.

August S. "Gus" Hoyer

A funeral Mass for August S. "Gus" Hoyer, 92, took place Saturday, Feb. 14, at St. Colette Church in Rolling Meadows. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel cemetery in Palatine. Visitation was at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Hoyer was born on Aug. 28, 1916 in Lewistown, Pa. He died on Feb. 7, 2009 at Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. His wife of 59 years, Julianna (nee Kovach) preceded him in death. His children Marjorie (Greg) Isbrecht, Tom (Mary) Hoyer, Dan (Trudy) Hoyer, John Hoyer, Paul (Valerie) Hoyer, Edward Hoyer, and Anne (John) Becker survive him.

Henry J. Jones
WWII Navy Veteran

A funeral service for Henry J. Jones, 96, of Arlington Hts., took place Saturday, Feb. 14, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home in Arlington Hts.. Interment was in Memory Gardens cemetery. Visitation preceded the service. Mr. Jones was born on Aug. 26, 1912, in Whiteford, Md. He died on Feb. 11, 2009, in Long Grove. His wife of 63 years, Mildred Jones, preceded him in death. His children Robert (Carmen) Jones and Ronald (Yvonne) Jones survive him.
