Funeral services for Julia Y. Karney, 87, of Elk Grove Village, were held Friday, June 4 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Karney passed away Monday, May 31. She had worked 22 years for Illinois Bell Telephone Co., and had also been a cook for a local preschool. She had been a 30-year resident of Elk Grove Village. Mrs. Karney is preceded in death by her husband, John; siblings, Louis Barna, Stella, Helen, and Elsie. She is survived by her children, John E. and Barbara A.

SYLVIA COTTONE
Homemaker

Funeral services for Sylvia Cottone, 92, of Park Ridge, were held Monday, May 17 at Our Lady of Ransom Church. Interment was in Maryhill cemetery. Born on Dec. 5, 1911, Mrs. Cottone passed away Friday, May 14. She was a homemaker for her family. Mrs. Cottone is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents, Joseph and Mary Messina; and her sisters, Esther Messina and Rose (late Gino) Romito. She is survived by her siblings, Grace (Joe) Antenore, Angeline (late Charles) Badalamenti, Josephine (late Mike) Buccieri, Anna (Frank) Caravelli, and Sam (Babe) Messina. Arrangements were made by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles.

VERA M. ELLIS
Healthcare Worker

A funeral service for Vera M. Ellis 76, of Niles, was held May 15 in Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. Burial followed in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. A native of England and a healthcare office worker, she died at home on May 12. Surviving are a son, Steven (Debora); daughters Bonnie (Bill) Lamb, and Sandra (Nick) Nix; grandchildren Chris, Derek, Justin, Melanie, Michael, Michelle (Vince) Mazza, and Tracy (Dan) Poetch; and great-grandchildren Ethan and Walker.

RICHARD S.H. MAH
Professor reunited with parents living in closed society after 25 years apart

Services for Richard S.H. Mah, 69, of Glenview were held June 3 at the N.H. Scott & Hebblethwaite Funeral Home, Glenview. Interment is private. Born in China in 1935, Mah died May 30, in his home. Mah obtained advanced Chemical Engineering degrees from the University of Birmingham England, University of London Imperial College of Science and Technology and the University of Minnestoa. He was a professor at the Robert McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwest University in Evanston from 1972 to 1995. He won many prestigous awards and his articles were published in numerous professional journals. After many years of persistent efforts he was able to bring his parents from China to the U.S. for a joyous reunion after 25 years of separation. He is survived by his wife, Stella; son, Christopher (Jennifer); and grandchildren, Alison and Lauren. Memorials to Midwest Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Assocaition, 2050 Pfingsten Rd. Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60025.

ANNA MAE ABATA
Homemaker, 38-year Resident of Elk Grove

A funeral Mass for Anna Mae Abata (nee Vitale), 75, of Elk Grove Village, was held Monday, June 7 at Queen of the Rosary Church. Interment was private. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Abata passed away Friday, June 4. She had lived in Elk Grove Village for 38 years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Abata is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph P.; sons, Joseph P. Jr. (Suzan), Robert M., Donald J., and David J.; brothers, Michael (Toots) Vitale and Frank (Elaine) Vitale; granddaughter, Nicole Gregory; and her great-grandchild, Jada. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association. Arrangements were made by Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village.

A funeral Mass for Rosemary O'Hara (nee Specht), 74, of Glenview, formerly of Park Ridge, was held Friday, June 4 at St. Isaac Jogues Church. Born in Chicago on October 31, 1929, Mrs. O'Hara passed away Tuesday, June 1. She had been a homemaker for her family. Mrs. O'Hara is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. She is survived by her son, Glen (Deborah); grandchildren, Matthew (Connie), Todd, Caitlin (Jackson) Biesecker, and Shannon; great-grandchild, Anastasia; sisters, Lorraine (Thomas) Jur and Mary (Bob) Clifford; and her nephews, Tomas (Denya) Jur and Jeffrey Jur. Memorial contributions may be made to the Optimist Club of Glenview, Robert J. O'Hara Vocational Scholarships, 2320 Glenview Rd., Glenview, IL 60025. Arrangements were made by Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles.

MILDRED P. DELGUIDICE

A funeral Mass for Mildred P. DelGuidice, 95, of Des Plaines, was celebrated Friday, July 2 at St. Zachary Church in Des Plaines. Interment was in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. Born in Chicago on Sept. 4, 1908, she passed away Tuesday, June 29 at her home. Mrs. DelGuidice was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Enrico Fermi Post - Women's Auxiliary, and also one of Chicago's first crossing guards. She lived in Des Plaines for 38 years. Mrs. DelGuidice is preceded in death by her husband, Louis, a World War II veteran; granddaughter, Kimberly Taglia-Cappello and her five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann DelGuidice-Maniacek and Sylvia DelGuidice-Taglia; grandchildren, Luanne Maniacek-Pross, Michael A. Maniacek, and Anthony R. Taglia; great-grandchildren, Alan Maniacek, Nicholas Hodge, Michael Maniacek, Julia Cappello, and Alyssa Taglia and many other friends and family. Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice. Arrangements were made by G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines.

LEONARD R. FELKE
Sanitary Dist. Trustee

A funeral service for Leonard R. Felke, a former Mt. Prospect resident, was held July 26 in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Burial followed in All Saints cemetery. He was 75 years old. A native of Chicago and a recent resident of Crystal Lake, he died July 22 in his home. He was a retired employee of Gehardt-Meyne Construction Co., was a trustee of the Forest River Sanitary District for 10 years, and was a volunteer fireman for the Forest River Fire Protection District. Surviving are his widow, Virginia (nee Betterman); daughters Linda (Edwin Olbinski and Nancy Bednar; grandchildren Scott (Katie), Beth, and Jeffrey Olbinski; and Vanessa (Steve Puglisi) Bednar; great-grandchildren Ellie Olbinski and Sedona Puglisi and his brother, James (Joan) Felke. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.

JIINING TSENG
Native of Taiwan; Des Plaines Resident

A funeral service for Jiining Tseng, 92, of Des Plaines, will be held Saturday, 9 a.m., at the River Woods Funeral Chapels. Burial in All Saints cemetery. Visitation takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. before the service. Born in Taiwan in 1911, Mrs. Tseng and her husband came to the United States 24 years ago. She and her husband have been Des Plaines residents for many years. She and her family were members of the Taiwan Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Tseng passed away July 20 at Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines. She is survived by her husband, Jin Yang Tseng; her 10 children, Samuel, Kenneth, Paula and Lisa Tseng, Shelley Tsai and Sue Wang and four children that live abroad.

ZABELLE ABEZETIAN
Park Ridgean

A funeral service for Zabelle Abezetian (nee Simonian), long-time resident of Park Ridge, was held July 22 in St. Gregory Armenian Church, Chicago. Interment followed in Town of Maine cemetery. She died July 19 in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. Arrangements were by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Surviving are her husband, Martin, to whom she was married for 54 years; children Gregory (Denise), and Garrick (Diane); grandchildren Marty, Elizabeth, Jessica and Allison; siblings Gladys Simonian, Raffe (Ferryl) Simonian, and Judith (John) Wittmus. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret (Dr. William) Gorman. Memorials are requested to the St. Gregory Armenian Church, 6700 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, for its building fund.

SAMUEL ROBERT "BUD" WILLEUMIER
Longtime Park Ridge Resident

A funeral service for Samuel Robert "Bud" Willeumier, 92, of Park Ridge, was held July 22 at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge. Interment followed in Ridgewood cemetery. Mr. Willeumier was a longtime resident of Park Ridge and the former owner of Park Ridge Auto Parts. He is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Robert C.; his granddaughter, Kristen Willeumier; and his former daughter-in-law, Barbara Willeumier. Ryan-Parke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ELEANORE A. TON
Retail worker

A funeral service for Eleanore A. Ton, 79, of Prospect Heights, was held on Saturday, July 24, 11 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Church. Interment took place at St. Joseph cemetery in River Grove. Visitation was held Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Friedrich's Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Born in Evanston on Sept. 14, 1924, Mrs. Ton worked at Carson Pirie Scott in Randhurst for 18 years. Mrs. Ton passed away July 21 at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Ton was preceded in death by her husband Roger. Mrs. Ton is survived by her siblings Margaret Snelten, Lambert Hillebrand; children George (Kathy) Melvage, Suzanne (Gerry) Genser, Dana (Jennifer) Ton, Donna (Ray) Jenks; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

RITA H. FONTAINE
Formerly of Norwood Park

A funeral mass for Rita H. Fontaine, 89, formerly of Norwood Park, was celebrated July 21 in St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment followed in All Saints cemetery. Arrangements were by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. She died July 19 in Resurrection Life Center. Surviving are two sons, Eugene J. (Mary Pat), formerly of Park Ridge, and Thomas E. (Deborah) of Park Ridge; grandchildren Christine (John Gucer), Matthew, Marc, and Rachel; great-grandchldren Emily and Evan; and a sister, Loretto (Fillmore) Batow.

EDWARD W. KORTMAN
Husband and Father

A funeral service for Edward W. Kortman, 89, of Belvidere, was held on Thursday, July 22, 11:30 a.m., at Cumberland Chapels in Norridge. Interment took place at Mt. Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst. Visitation took place Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Born in Chicago on Apr. 9, 1915, Mr. Kortman is a former resident of Rosemont. Mr. Kortman passed away July 20 in Biltmore Rehab and Nursing Center. Mr. Kortman was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice; and sons Donald W. (Sandra) and Edward P. Mr. Kortman is survived by his daughter Patricia (Dave) Vistine; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

JAMES LEVATO
Jeweler, Musician

A funeral Mass for James N. Levato, 91, of Elk Grove Village, was celebrated Tuesday, July 27 at St. Julian Church in Elk Grove Village. Interment was in Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside. Born in Magisano, Italy, Mr. Levato passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, July 25. He immigrated to Chicago when he was nine years old. Mr. Levato learned watch repair and jewelry making from his older brother, and later became an instructor at the Chicago Institute of Watch Making. He was the former owner of Harrison Jewelers on the west side of Chicago, and later worked with jewelry at Marshall Fields. Mr. Levato was also an accomplished violinist and mandolinist, having played at Chicago Symphony Hall at the age of 14. At 16 years, he played with the WGN Radio String Ensemble. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus of Berwyn, the Sons of Italy Fraternal Organization and the Shiela Ray Senior Center of Elk Grove Village. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Antoinette; and his siblings, Rosario and Mary Kulakowski. Mr. Levato is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty (nee Gerardi); daughter, Annette E. (Richard) Cassettari; grandchildren, Christopher J. (Janet), Rick P.; great-grandson, Dominic J.; and his many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were made by Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village.

JOSEPH BAUER
Veteran

A private funeral service was held for Joseph J. Bauer, 91, of Niles. Bauer, who was born Nov. 4, 1912 and died July 20, 2004. His body will be donated to science. He worked as the display manager for the downtown Marshall Fields store. Arrangements by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. He is survived by his sister, Henrietta Hanson and many nieces and nephews.

LAVERNE EDITH VOLTZ
Former Longtime Glenview Resident

A graveside funeral service for LaVerne Edith Voltz (nee Dewes), 81, of Northbrook, formerly of Glenview, was held July 24, at Ridgewood cemetery. Burial took place at the cemetery. Born Aug. 19, 1922, in Chicago, Mrs. Voltz lived most of her life in Glenview and then Northbrook. Both the Voltz and Dewes families were part of the early history of Glenview and Northbrook. She passed away July 22, in Glenview. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mildred Dewes; and her son, Rocky Voltz. Mrs. Voltz is survived by her daughters, Pamela and Patricia Voltz; her daughter-in-law, Joanne Voltz Reisener; her grandchildren, Karen (Jason), Daniel (Carrie), Katy (Jeff), Peter and Paul; her great-grandchildren, Amanda, Benjamin, Charlie, Serena, Bailey, William, Daniel and Sammy. Memorials may be made to ENH Hospice, 5215 Old Orchard Rd., Suite 200, Skokie, IL 60077.

MAXIMILIAN WOLSKI
Of Niles

A funeral service for Maximilian Wolski, 88, of Niles, was held on Saturday, July 24, 11 a.m., at St. Hyacinth Church. Interment took place at St. Adalbert cemetery. Visitation took place Friday, July 23 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Born in Poland on July 1, 1916, Mr. Wolski worked as a welder in the steel industry. Mr. Wolski passed away July 21 at Regency Nursing Home. Mr. Wolski is survived by his wife Genevieve; and sister-in-law Virginia Feret.

LOUIS A. BERGMANN, JR.
Glenview Resident

A funeral service for Louis A. Bergmann Jr., 57, of Glenview, was held July 27 at N.H. Scott and Hebblethwaite Funeral Home. Burial was private. Visitation took place before the service. Born Apr. 20, 1947, in Chicago, Mr. Bergmann passed away July 21, in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his wife, Laila Bergmann (nee Tarazi); his children, Louis A. Bergmann III and Gina Bergmann; his step-children, Kristen, Shannon and Lauren Carrol; his grandchildren, Christopher and Mark Bergmann; his siblings, James Bergmann and Sharon Higgins; along with several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
