Doris E. Stafford

Doris E. Stafford, 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, in Merritt Island, Fla.

She was the kindergarten teacher at Highlands Elementary School in Naperville for 18 years, until her retirement in 1975.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Nile Stafford; her daughters, Anne Johnson and Mary Kohl; her sons, Mark and Jon Stafford; seven grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

Ruby V. Spallone

Ruby Virginia (Coe) Spallone, 65, a Naperville resident since 1990 and formerly of the Bellwood/Maywood area from 1967 to 1990, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at her home. She was born April 4, 1938, in Jefferson County, Alabama.

She moved to Chicago in her teens and was a graduate of Marshall High School. She lived in the Bellwood/Maywood area for many years and was employed by Bekin Van Lines in Hillside for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Spallone, of Naperville, whom she married Sept. 29, 1956; two daughters, Andra (husband Walter) Gonsior of Pell Lake, Wis., and Kim (fiance Ron Miller) Spallone of Denver; a son, Nicholas Spallone of Pell Lake; a stepson, Donald "Dean" (wife Theresa) Spallone of Terre Haute, Ind.; an adopted daughter, Shirley (husband Jack) Raimondi of Naperville; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Veronica, Joey, Nicholas, Donald, Samantha and Virginia; a brother, Wayne (wife Paulette) Coe of New Hampshire; a sister, Vicky Hebel of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Mary Spallone; her parents, James and Idella Coe; and a brother, James "Butch" Coe.

Visitation will take place from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Additional visitation will take place from 9 until 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, followed by an 11 a.m. service at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Elm Lawn cemetery in Elmhurst.

Florence M. Sennis

Florence M. (Vassme) Sennis, 94, of Naperville and formerly of Chicago and St. Charles, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Center in Naperville. Carol A. Quintavalle

Carol A. Quintavalle, 56, of Naperville died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at her home. Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville, is handling arrangements. Call (630) 922-9630.

Kenneth C. Peterson

Kenneth C. Peterson, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Superior, Wis., and grew up on a farm just outside of Superior.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 during World War II. Because he was blessed with extraordinary proficiency in the fields of math and science, he was selected to work on developing the atomic bomb. Consequently, he was sent by the Army to the Georgia School of Technology, where he studied chemical engineering and then was assigned to the Manhattan Project, where he, along with others, successfully developed the contents of the atomic bomb, in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He attended the University of Wisconsin in Superior and later in Madison, where he received two degrees in chemical engineering. He worked for Standard Oil of Indiana (renamed Amoco, which is now part of BP) in Whiting, Ind., from 1947 to 1981. He began in the Research and Development Department in Whiting, Ind., in 1947. He worked in the pilot plant and process designs and economic groups and was promoted to group leader in 1953 and section leader in 1958. He became director of the Process Design and Economics Division in 1965 and manager of Polymers and Plastics Research and Development in 1969. He moved to Naperville when his department moved from Whiting to Naperville in 1970. He retired from Amoco in 1981.

He was generous and a strong believer in helping those in need. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He was also a proud member of Naperville Noon Lion's Club, through which he was able to perform volunteer work and raise money for the blind. Recently, he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the highest award achievable from the Lions Club, for his many years of dedication to humanitarian services.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Christine Peterson of Wheaton; and a son, Ken Peterson Jr. (wife Holanda "Kily") of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. He is also survived by a grandson, Lawrence Peterson; and a granddaughter, who will be born in January. He is also survived by two sisters, Martha Fisher of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Doris Spencer of Superior, Wis., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar and GerdaPeterson of Superior, Wis.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St., Naperville.

Interment will follow at Naperville cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Naperville Noon Lion's Club.

Patrick J.W. Nolan

Patrick J.W. Nolan, 4, of Naperville was at rest Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003. He was born June 8, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

He was the loving son of Shawn and Jennifer (Melsa) Nolan; dear brother of Moira; beloved grandson of James and Katherine Melsa, Thomas and Susan Nolan, and Marilyn Nolan; fond nephew of Susan (husband John) Jordan, Elisabeth (husband Rick) Nilles, Peter (wife Linda) Melsa, Jon (wife Chris) Melsa, Mark (wife Becky) Melsa, Kevin (wife Lee Ann) Nolan, Christopher Nolan and Ryan Nolan; and adored cousin of many.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Family and friends will meet Friday, Nov. 21, at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. William O'Shea officiating.

Interment will be at Assumption cemetery in Wheaton.

Ella May Ory

Ella May Ory, 74, of Naperville died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville. She was born May 29, 1929, in Hinsdale.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville and a longtime resident of Mill Crossing Condominium complex. She was retired from Litton Financial Printing after 20 years of service and then started working at La Grange Federal in the mortgage department. Her family farmed and managed the Lisle Farmers, which is known today as the Morton Arboretum. She and her former husband, William Ory, farmed in the Naperville area for several years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Jo (husband Michael) King of Naperville and Laurel Barbour of Naperville; a granddaughter, Alexis Barbour of Naperville; a sister, Ruby (husband Roland) Hougham of Downers Grove; and a brother, Charles (wife Jeanette) White of Barrington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Josephine White.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Road in Naperville.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Huntington's Disease Society of America, 158 W. 29th St., New York, NY 10001-5300; or Grace United Methodist Church, New Organ Fund.

Nicholas "Nick" Wybolt

Nicholas "Nick" Wybolt, 47, a resident of Naperville since 1991 and formerly of New Jersey and Massachusetts, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born May 30, 1956, in Newark, N.J.

He grew up in Hillside, N.J., and was a graduate of Hillside High School, class of 1974. He received his B.S. from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark and his M.S. in computer science from Boston University. He was most recently employed by TAM Group in Estes Park, Colo., as a principal consultant. He was a former associate partner at Andersen Consulting in Chicago and later was chief technology officer at McDonald's Corp. in Oak Brook. He was a member of the following professional organizations: the Association for Computing Machinery, the Data Management Association, Chicago C-Spin, the IEEE Computer Society and the Software Engineering Institute. He was a member of the Naperville Camera Club and Critical Mass Bicycle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Susan J. (Whicher) Wybolt of Naperville, whom he married Aug. 1, 1981; two children, Andrew S. and Amanda S. Wybolt, both of Naperville; his parents, Stanley J. and Anna (Petrock) Wybolt of Hillside, N.J.; and a sister, Nancy Wybolt Hartmann of Rockaway, N.J.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Road, Naperville.

Interment will be private.

Regina Novak

Regina Novak, 87, a resident of Naperville and a former resident of Calumet City and Chicago, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville. She was born Dec. 5, 1915.

Patrick J.W. Nolan

Margaret M. Betker

Margaret M. Betker, 92, of Naperville and formerly of Lisle, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born March 31, 1911, in Dundee, Scotland. She moved to Lisle in 1979.

She worked as a private secretary for the Scottish Insurance Corp. in Glasgow, Scotland, for 25 years, and then for Chidley and Hughes Insurance Exchange for six years. While living in Lisle, she worked as a librarian for 11 years at the Lisle Public Library.

She is survived by her husband, Adam, whom she married Jan. 11, 1949; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Jessie (Preston) Yates; and a sister, Muriel Cowie.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Interment will be private.

Mary Jo 'Jo Jo' Lenert

Mary Jo "Jo Jo" Lenert, 75, of Naperville died peacefully in her home Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

She was born in Chicago and moved to Naperville as a child. While growing up in Naperville she became an accomplished horsewoman. She attended St. Xavier University and majored in nursing. Throughout her extraordinary life she touched many people and accomplished many things. She was the first Naperville volunteer at the Chicago Erie St. Settlement House; had her real estate license; was vice president and president of Lenert Plumbing; was a trustee at North Central College; and was a philanthropist who also volunteered for several charity organizations. Her life was full of many world travels, all of which included family and friends. Since her retirement, she had split her time between Naperville; Simi Valley, Calif.; and Scottsdale, Ariz.

She is survived by four daughters, Pam Lenert of Naperville, Sandy Jo (husband Nick) MacArthur of Simi Valley, Julie (husband Rob) Kabat of Naperville and Shelley (husband Sheldon) Johnson of Scottsdale; six grandchildren, Cody and Hayley Jo MacArthur, Channing Lenert, Nicole and Jessica Kabat, and Austin Johnson; a sister, Lee Ann Sigler; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Agnes Brocker, and her beloved husband, Richard Lenert.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.

Interment will take place at SS Peter and Paul cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to CNS Hospice, 690 E. North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188-2172.

Cmdr. Richard A. Koehler

Cmdr. Richard A. Koehler, USNR retired, 82, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003. He moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz., from Naperville in August 2000. He was born Sept. 30, 1921, to Earl and Martha Koehler in Geneva.

He served in World War II on the USS Mary Lyon, an attack transport. He participated in both the European and the Pacific theaters, including the numerous troop landings in France and the Pacific islands. During World War II, his duties took him to 16 countries, seven U.S. ports, two equator crossings and numerous crossings of the international date line. He taught in the Naval Reserve Officers School in Aurora. He was an information officer for Annapolis and a brig counselor at Great Lakes Naval Air Station.

He taught social sciences at Morton High School in Berwyn for more than 30 years before retiring 20 years ago. He received a bachelor's degree from North Central College in Naperville and a master's degree from New York University in New York City. He was a member of TROA, American Legion, Lions, Cotillion Dance Club and the 25 Dance Club during his lifetime in Naperville.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet; three children, Peggy Thies, Dr. Doug Koehler and Sue Anderson; and seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Newman, Lindsay Newman, 1st Lt. Todd Koehler, Emily Koehler, Matthew Anderson, Sheri Anderson and Mark Anderson.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Chandler Christian Church, 1825 S. Alma School Road, Chandler, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Chandler Christian Church Scholarship Fund, 1825 S. Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85248; or to the Annual School Fund in memory of Richard A. Koehler, Development Office, North Central College, 30 N. Brainard St., Naperville, IL 60540.

Bueler Mortuary in Chandler handled arrangements.

Leila G. Kauffman

Leila G. Kauffman, 83, a third-generation Napervillian, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude (nee Unz) Kluckhohn, dear wife of the late Richard H. Kauffman and loving mother of Mark Kauffman and Riki (husband Robert Koelling) Kauffman, all of Naperville; dear sister of Marion (wife Delores) Kluckhohn of Neilsville, Wis., Harlan Kluckhohn of Stockton, Ill., and the late Francis Kluckhohn; fond aunt of many; and dearest friend of Eleanor Beidelman, Kathryn Albrecht and Helen Buchman.

She was a physician, chief, beautician, seamstress and confidant for family and friends. In the late 1980s she worked for Colonial Catering.

A memorial visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Memorials in Leila's name may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ingeborg Marie Kalash

Ingeborg Marie (Muller) Kalash, 84, of Wheaton and formerly of Naperville, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Wynscape Nursing Center in Wheaton. Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville, is handling arrangements. Call (630) 355-0264.
