Thomas F. Anderson, 76, of South Holland, died Friday. A funeral service will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. at the Thornridge Funeral Home, 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Dolton. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Calumet City. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Anderson taught for the the Chicago Public Schools for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. He volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program. Mr. Anderson is survived by a brother, Edmund Anderson of Lansing.

Interment will be in Homewood Memorial Gardens, Homewood. Mrs. Baum was born April 1, 1917, in Tennessee. She was a homemaker and member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband William; daughters Bonnie (John) Eudy of Rockford and Christina Baum of Minnesota; son Ronnie (Teresa) of California; sister Naomi Fleshman of Florida; brother Bartlett Netherland of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Anthony J. Gasbarra of Wilmette, formerly of Flossmoor and Chicago Heights, died Feb. 28 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Wilmette. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery. Visitation will be from at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Hirsch West End Chapel, 1340 Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights. Mr. Gasbarra was born June 13, 1915, in Chicago Heights. He was president of Bennett Industries, Peotone. He is survived by his daughter Edie (Douglas) Schaffer of Wilmette; son Gary (Marilynn) of Richton Park; sister Velma Zalengo Perri of New York; brother Edward (Kay) of Orland Park; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His first wife Marjorie died in 1940 and his second wife Josephine died in 1976. Memorials may be made to the University of Chicago Business School.

Olga Holetzky, 82, of Chicago's Pullman neighborhood, died Thursday at Lexington Health Care in LaGrange. A funeral service will be held Monday at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 300 E. 115th St., Chicago. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Holetzky was born on May 8, 1918, in her Pullman home. She worked as a receptionist for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. for 35 years. She worked at both the 107th St. and Vincennes plant and the Oak Brook facilities plant before retiring in 1985. She was also a member of the Pullman Civic Organization, the Pullman Seniors, and the Historic Pullman Foundation. Mrs. Holetzky is survived by her son, Randall Holtz of Lyons; a sister, Anna Piper of Tinley Park; two brothers, John Warholak of Riviera Beach, Fla. and Michael Warholak of Grass Valley, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Emily of Blue Island; her parents, Pedro and Julie Vasquez of Blue Island; her grandmother, Mary Granados of Ottawa; a sister, Imelda (Tony Alvarez) Hoglund of Blue Island; three brothers, Carlos (Susan) Vasquez of Tinley Park, Peter (Anne) Vasquez of Chicago and David Vasquez of Rolling Meadows; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her son Christ (Donna) of Blue Island, and sister Tula Chatas of Palos Heights. Her husband Basil died in 1979.

Theodore S. "Ted" Leonas Sr. of Steger, formerly of East Hazel Crest and Chicago, died March 1 at University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crete Funeral Home, Crete. A 10 a.m. Mass is Monday at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Steger. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Steger. Mr. Leonas was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Chicago. He was a sheet metal worker in the construction trade and a member of the sheet metal workers Union Local 73. He was also a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church. He was a World War II veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Bronze Battle Star, Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation Medal and the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife Thelma; daughters Sharon (Mike) Hankins of Texas and Sandy (Don) Perez of Steger; sons Ted Jr. (Marla) of Orland Park and Garry (Candace) of Steger; sisters Helen of Missouri, Florence (James) Brouder of Chicago, and Lillian (Edward) Maiser of East Hazel Crest; brothers Alfred of Florida and John (Mary) of Manteno; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

William J. Love, 84, of Joliet and formerly of Elwood, died Thursday at the Hines Hospital in Maywood. Mr. Love was born on Jan. 21, 1917, in Joliet. He was retired from Olin Chemical Company in Joliet. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 1080 in Joliet Mr. Love is survived by a brother, Robert Love and two sisters, Rita Wafer and Lorraine Arendt of Park Forest. Private funeral services were held. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque, N.M.

Robert J. Loftus
Bronze Star recipient
Robert J. Loftus, of Naples, Fla., formerly a longtime resident of Riverdale, died Feb. 16 in Naples. A memorial mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Church on 137th Street in Riverdale. Burial was private. Mr. Loftus was an Army veteran who served in the Pacific and European theaters during World War II. His heroism during the war earned him a Bronze Star for bravery for saving a fellow soldier from falling artillery shells while on Okinawa. He was involved in the battles of the Philippines and Okinawa, and he was discharged in 1946 as an Army sergeant. Mr. Loftus spent the next 25 years as a loan manager with a local bank. He then worked 10 years as a financial manager with the Illinois Secretary of State's office. As a kid growing up in the late 1930s, Mr. Loftus was a well-known athlete in and around Chicago's Hamilton Park neighborhood. In 1940, his senior year in high school, he captained the Mount Carmel High School "heavyweight" basketball team. He is survived by three sons, John Loftus, Thomas Loftus and William Loftus; two sisters, Agnes Karstens and Margaret Mary Corrigan; and eight grandchildren.

Margaret E. Peterson

Margaret E. Peterson (nee Sternberger), 84, of Orland Park, died Thursday at Palos Community Hospital. "She was quite a lady," her son Donald Peterson said. "Everybody who knew her loved her." A service will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Blake-Lamb/Becvar Funeral Home, 11201 S. Harlem Ave., Worth. A mass will be said at 10 a.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, 7399 W. 159th St., Tinley Park. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Peterson was born July 22, 1916, in Chicago. She was a homemaker. Family members said Mrs. Peterson was very kind and caring and will be greatly missed. Donald Peterson said family was important to his mother. After her sister, Mary McKeague, was killed in a car accident in 1969, Mrs. Peterson adopted her children. Mrs. Peterson raised James, Edward, Martin, Daniel and Peggy as her own. She and her husband, Lawrence, moved to Chicago from Pennsylvania so the five adopted children would be close to other family members. Mrs. Peterson kept in touch with many childhood friends. "She was a wonderful mother and friend to many," son Larry Peterson said. She is survived by five sons, Larry (Rebecca), Robert (Carol), Dennis (Joan), John (Deborah) and Donald (Debra); a sister, Mildred; 13 grandchildren, Daniel, Lynn, Lisa, Kimberly, Kevin, Amy, Tina, Chrissy, Dawn, Kurt, Eric, Faith and Hope; seven great-grandchildren, Oliva, Mitchell, Andrea, Kathryn, Lauryn, Jacob and Jessica; and many nieces and nephews including, James, Edward, Martin, Daniel and Peggy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lawrence, and by siblings Dottie, Eileen, Mary and Charles.

She was a bookkeeper at a feed store until her retirement. Ms. Doermann was a lifelong member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Blue Island. She was also a member of Blue Island Women's Club and Apollo Chorus for many years. Ms. Doermann was also formerly employed by Kline Elevator of Blue Island. Ms. Doermann is survived by three sisters, Hulda Doermann, Esther Grewenow and Gertrude Hepner; and many nieces and nephews.
