Marguerite A. Janus, 82, of Chicago, died Saturday in DeKalb. A funeral mass will be said at noon Wednesday at St. Thomas More Church, 8130 S. California, Chicago. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Janus was born June 11, 1918, in Chicago. She was a portrait artist's model at Palette and Chisel Club in Chicago. In addition, she was the subject of a painting called "Belle of Yugoslavia" by Chicago artist Macena Barton in the late 1930s. Today, the portrait is part of the permanent collection at the Vanderpoel Gallery in the Beverly community. A focal point of the portrait is the ethnic costume Mrs. Janus wore from her native Croatia. Her grandmother gave her the costume after she was named "Miss Yugoslavia" in a beauty contest held in Chicago. Mrs. Janus was a supporter of the arts, especially the Vanderpoel Association. She also traveled to Europe, Mexico, Asia and Hawaii. Mrs. Janus worked in the jewelry departments of Marshall Field's and Carson Pirie Scott. She also worked as a telegraph operator for the Santa Fe Railway. Because of her accuracy and the confidentiality she displayed in that job, she was chosen to participate in the announcement that World War II had ended. Mrs. Janus was a member of St. Thomas More Church, the Altar Guild and the Hayes Park Seniors. Mrs. Janus is survived by a daughter, Linda Gruber; two brothers, Anthony and Robert Balance; a granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were made by Butala Funeral Homes.

Walter F. Jastrzemski Sr., 78, of Chicago's Archer Heights community, died Saturday in Berwyn. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bruno Church, 4751 S. Harding Ave., Chicago. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Zarzycki Manor Chapels, 5088 S. Archer Ave., Chicago. Mr. Jastrzemski was born on Dec. 12, 1922. He was a retired electrician of Continental Bank for 37 years. He was a prisoner of war during World War II in Germany for 28 months. He was a member of Stalag 73 POW Chicago Chapter, DAV Chapter 23, American Legion Post 383 and Local 134 International Brotherhood Electrical Workers. Mr. Jastrzemski is survived by his wife, Carmella; two sons, Walter F. Jastrzemski Jr. and Dennis Jastrzemski; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the owner of Nelson Glass Co. in Harvey. The company was founded by his father in 1927, and Mr. Nelson ran the company beginning in 1946. Mr. Nelson was also a member of the Garcia Moreno Council of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Louise N. Nelson; a daughter, Heather Casey; and two grandchildren.

Albert Webb, 85, of Riverdale, died Monday at St. James Manor in Crete. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tews Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Garden South in Worth. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Webb was born on Oct. 21, 1915, in Danville, Ill. He was a manager of club administration for Lions International in Oak Brook. He retired in 1978. He was a life member of the Riverdale Dolton Lions Club and by transfer was a member of the Calumet City Lions Club with perfect attendance at club meetings for more than 50 years. He held many offices and chairmanships with Lions, including zone chairman and district governor of district 1A in 1957. Among other awards, he received the Lions' Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for dedicated humanitarian service. He participated in Lions International conventions throughout the world. Mr. Webb enjoyed bowling, ridge, chess, reading and traveling. He was a graduate of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind. Mr. Webb is survived by his wife, Helen M. Webb; two daughters, Mary Lou Bilen and Barbara Barnhardt; a son, John "Jack" Webb; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Anthony M. "Tony" Juska, 85, of Chicago's South Side, died Friday at his home. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Alexandria, 4100 107th St., Oak Lawn. Burial will be at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Andrew McGann and Sons Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Road, Chicago. Mr. Juska was a longtime high school coach in Peoria and former athletic director at Evergreen Park High School whose sports teams won 14 conference championships. Mr. Juska was also a star high school football player who was named the MVP in the first Chicago Prep Bowl in 1934. The games MVP trophy was renamed in his honor. In 1960 he became head football coach at Lyons Township High School. In 1965 he became athletic director at Evergreen Park High School, where he stayed until his retirement in 1979. In all, his football, golf, wrestling and basketball teams won 14 conference championships and more than 300 games. He was inducted into the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award from the Chicago Public Schools.

He was a member of the Trial Lawyers Association, Flossmoor Country Club and Flossmoor Community Church. Mr. Tozer played semi-pro baseball with the Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Tozer served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War and he attained the rank of lieutenant. He received the Purple Heart for injures he received in the battle of the Frozen Chosin reservoir. Mr. Tozer is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two daughters, Elizabeth Christine Tozer and Judith Ann Bardis; and two sons, Paul William Tozer and Thomas Aiden Tozer. He was also a member and past commander of the United State Power Squadron in Chicago. Mr. Pomeroy was the husband of the late Iona Pomeroy. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Burris is survived by two nieces, Linda Lovelady Epstein and Connie Lovelady Rappaport; and a nephew, I.W. "Ike" Lovelady.

The Rev. James Davitt, 72, of Chicago, died Tuesday. A funeral mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Divine Savior, 7740 Montrose Ave., Norridge. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. The Rev. Davitt was ordained a priest May 3, 1955. He served as associate pastor at St. Sylvester in Chicago, St. James in Maywood, Our Lady of the Angels, St. Ita in Chicago, St. Henry in Chicago, Divine Savior in Norridge and St. Gertrude in Franklin Park. The Rev. Davitt was pastor at St. James in Lemont from 1988 until his retirement in 1997.

Charles F. Nothdurft, 89, of Homewood, died Saturday at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Tews Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood. Burial will be private Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Nothdurft was born June 4, 1912, in Chicago. He was a maitre d' at Wrigley Restaurant in Chicago. He was an Army surgical technician during World War II in the 33rd Division, 108th medical battalion. Mr. Nothdurft was a member of White Feather Fishing Club, Homewood American Legion post 483, International Geneva Association, the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Mr. Nothdurft is survived by his wife, Clara; two daughters, Grace Deming and Alice Okner; two brothers, William Nothdurft and Peter Nothdurft; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Ingalls Hospice or Homewood American Legion Post 483.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially painting. She also worked as an election judge for the Republican Party. Mrs. Sullivan was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by a son, William J. Sullivan; and a sister, Anne Cebat.
